Saratoga Springs 8/26/23 #phish #derektrucks - YouTube  “First Tube,” is the 12th and final track on the band's 2000 album, Farmhouse Anastasio led a performance by a one-off band called 8 Foot Fluorescent Tubes on April 17, 1998, at the original Higher Ground in Winooski, just outside Burlington, Vermont. The show was the first time Anastasio performed in public with Lawton and Markellis, who were joined by guitarist/vocalist Tom Lawson of The Pants, saxophonist Dave Grippo, trombonist James Harvey and vocalist Heloise Williams of Viperhouse.“First Tube” was seemingly named for its placement as the first song played at the 8 Foot Fluorescent Tubes show, which also saw the premieres of future Phish/TAB songs “Sand,” “Mozambique” and “Last Tube.” Trey, Tony and Russ would go on to form the first incarnation of the Trey Anastasio Band which made its debut — back at the Higher Ground — in February 1999. That concert again featured “First Tube” as part of the setlist. The same TAB trio was also the lineup on Trey's first solo tour in May 1999. By the end of that acoustic/electric tour, “First Tube” was a full-on show-stopper that highlighted many electric second sets. Along with fellow 8 Foot Fluorescent Tubes original “Mozambique,” “First Tube” made its Phish debut on September 9, 1999, in Vancouver, British Columbia. One of two instrumentals on Farmhouse — along with “The Inlaw Josie Wales” — “First Tube” earned Phish a Grammy Award Nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 2001. Nominated alongside Peter Frampton, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Joe Satriani, Phish lost to Metallica, Michael Kamen and the San Francisco Symphony's “The Call of Ktulu” First Tube” was played by Phish four times when they returned in 2003 but not at all in 2004, the year that began a second break lasting until 2009. Since coming back from the second hiatus, “First Tube” has remained a staple of both Phish concerts and Trey solo shows  SHOW #2:           Possum53:40 – 55:09Phish w Derek Trucks Live - YouTube The Man Who Stepped into Yesterday (often abbreviated as TMWSIY) is a 1987 concept album written by Trey Anastasio, the guitarist and lead vocalist of the American rock band Phish, as his senior thesis while attending Goddard College. Composed in 1987, the thesis included an essay piece and collection of songs (recorded by Phish) relating an epic tale from the band's fictional land of Gamehendge. On the album, the story of Gamehendge is told in nine parts, with short spoken narration in between. The saga can be compared to rock concept album projects like The Doors' Celebration of the Lizard or Rush's 2112 suite.The story's primary protagonist is Colonel Forbin. Other major characters include Tela, the "jewel of Wilson's foul domain" and the "evil" Wilson himself. Several of the album's spoken narrative sections are accompanied by background music borrowed from sections of the Phish songs "Esther" and "McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters". The final track, "Possum", is the only song on the album not written by Anastasio, having been written by former Phish member Jeff Holdsworth and later added to the Gamehendge cycle.Jeff Holdsworth is a musician who was a founding member of the rock band Phish.[1] Founded at the Redstone campus dormitories of the University of Vermont (UVM) in the fall of 1983, the band originally featured Holdsworth and Trey Anastasio sharing lead vocal and guitar duties, Jon Fishman on drums, and Mike Gordon on bass guitar. Holdsworth left the band in 1986 after graduating from UVM to pursue a career in electrical engineering, shortly before the band recorded their debut self-produced album, The White Tape, though he had played on some of the demo recordings (done in a dorm room) that would later be re-recorded for that album. His songs "Possum" and "Camel Walk" continue to be Phish live show favorites.  James Casey                       ARTICLE Show #3:             Dear PrudencePhil & Friends (Casey singing)  Rick Mitarotonda (Goose), John Medeski, Grahame Lesh, Nicki Bluhm, James Casey, Katie Jacoby, John MoloMarch 17 2023Capitol Theater3:12 – 4:36Phil Lesh & Friends - Dear Prudence - Feat. Rick Mitarotonda (Goose) + James Casey (TAB) - 3/17/23 - YouTube Dear Prudence" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1968 double album The Beatles (also known as "the White Album"). The song was written by John Lennon and credited to the Lennon–McCartneypartnership. Written in Rishikesh during the group's trip to India in early 1968, it was inspired by actress Mia Farrow's sister, Prudence Farrow, who became obsessive about meditating while practising with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.[2] Her designated partners on the meditation course, Lennon and George Harrison, attempted to coax Farrow out of her seclusion, which led to Lennon writing the song. Lennon wrote "Dear Prudence" using a finger-picking guitar technique that he learned from singer-songwriter Donovan. Its lyrics are simple and innocent and celebrate the beauty of nature. The Beatles recorded the song at Trident Studios in late August 1968 as a three-piece after Ringo Starr temporarily left the group out of protest at McCartney's criticism of his drumming on "Back in the U.S.S.R." and the tensions that typified the sessions for the White Album. Dear Prudence" has received praise from music critics, with many praising its lyrics and the band's performance. Lennon later selected it as one of his favourite songs by the Beatles. The song has been covered by many artists, including the Jerry Garcia Band, Ramsey Lewis and Siouxsie and the Banshees, whose version was a top-five hit in the UK in 1983. SHOW #4:           No Men In No Man'sTAB (Casey Sax solo)11.19.2022Reading PA:55 – 2:03TAB's James Casey…Smokin Sax Solo. If you want blues, gospel, and folk, they've got it, but what they've actually perfected across two albums and countless live shows is the sound of a glorious rock n' soul revival.  Seafoam Green even find room for a dash of Dublinese, just to remind people where they're coming from. Heavy hitters like Rich Robinson, Derek Trucks, and Tyler Greenwell have all chipped in, and it's not hard to hear why, for this is thrilling, vital, and – that word again - soulful music."Pat Carty - Hot Press MagazineHost Lee Zimmerman is a freelance music writer whose articles have appeared in several leading music industry publications. Rick also has an incredible series of long-form, sit-down interviews with some of the most acclaimed music artists in the world, including Peter Frampton, Sting, Derek Trucks, Brian May, and a group interview with grunge legends Krist Novoselic, Kim Thayil and Jack Endino. But Rick didn't find success on YouTube until he was in his mid-50s, following the viral success of a video he posted of his 8-year-old son Dylan demonstrating his perfect pitch. In fact, he didn't even launch his channel until he was 54. Prior to his YouTube success, Rick taught music at the college level, he held private lessons (by his estimation, he taught more than 12,000 lessons), he was a music producer and engineer, and he even co-wrote the song "Carolina" by the band Parmalee, which hit #1 on the Billboard Country chart. Rick is also one of the only people in the world who isn't a rock star to have his own Gibson Artist Series Signature Les Paul Special guitars. Author Andrew Wild returns to the podcast to talk about his brand new book “The Allman Brothers Band: Every Album, Every Song”! The story of the Allman Brothers band is one of triumph followed by tragedy followed by a remarkable comeback in the wake of that tragedy. As it's stated in the book's overview: "The music of the Allman Brothers is the pure distillation of the four main ingredients of American music: blues, rock, jazz and country. At their best, they transcended genre: they just were." In this episode, Andrew talks with me about the legendary Duane Allman, his little brother Gregg Allman, who, along with his bandmates Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe carried on in the wake of Duane's passing and shortly after bassist Berry Oakley's death. It wasn't easy. They went through a rough period in the late 70s into the 80s before marking their comeback in the late 80s, a comeback that sustained right up until the death of Gregg and Butch. We'll cover the legendary albums including ‘At Fillmore East' and ‘Eat A Peach' and the later members of the band Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes, who helped rejuvenate Gregg and his bandmates in the late 90s into the 2000s.Purchase a copy of "The Allman Brothers Band: Every Album, Every Song" in the UK through Burning Shed HERE and in the US through Amazon HEREListen to a playlist of the music discussed in this episode HERE Visit The Big House Museum's website HERE Visit the Booked On Rock Website HEREWatch exclusive video segments from the Booked On Rock podcast HERE Follow The Booked On Rock with Eric Senich:FACEBOOK TWITTER INSTAGRAM TIKTOK Support Your Local Bookstore! For more than a decade now, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi have been building up an incredible body of work with Tedeschi Trucks Band.  "America's best rock 'n' roll big band" is how Trucks himself described the touring and recording behemoth that has developed organically across the past decade. The pair detail I Am the Moon, the group's newest project, during a conversation with Matt. Featuring 24 songs spread across four albums, the endeavor contains some of the band's best work to date -- and if you're not already familiar with TTB, this is a great place to jump in.Trucks and Tedeschi shed a lot of light on how the albums came together, where the film component came into play and how the pandemic fed the whole project. They also discuss the experience of covering the classic Layla album from Derek and the Dominos, revisiting Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen and in general, getting the chance to collaborate with legends. It's a wonderfully free-flowing conversation that will leave you feeling like you've just spent the afternoon with a couple of good friends. If you enjoy these episodes, please consider joining our Record Club on Patreon. Collabs Gone Wild is the ultimate guest sit-in game, where the jams are made up and the points don't matter. Two artists are drawn each round for a potential collaboration. Is the world missing out on musical greatness or are some notes best not played? What kind of horror would be drummed up if Miles Davis sat in with Rob Zombie? Would Flea grooving Khruangbin be too epic or the greatest set the band ever played? Is the jury still out on Janis Joplin and Prince hanging out? We'll get to the bottom of these hypothetical collaborations, and many more! Hear more: yesterdaysconcert.com

The Rich Redmond Show

Nick Buda:    Nick's experience in playing and recording music goes back to his freshman year in high school, where he played in a popular band that had a single on college radio. This led to his first major industry gig with Mac Gayden (co-wrote iconic hit "Everlasting Love") while still in high school. Within a few months of being out on the road, Nick moved to Boston where he attended the Berklee College of Music and got to see what real playing was all about. With his ego immediately put in check and his head full of new musical ideas , he got the gig with Col. Bruce Hampton and the Codetalkers, which was a band he had loved to play along to in high school. During this time, Nick got to play with so many of the amazing musicians he had only heard in his headphones such as Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Bob Wier, and the late great Richie Hayward (from Little Feat) who joined Nick multiple times for some unforgettable double drumset gigs.  Upon moving back to Nashville in 2002, Nick picked up right where he left off, when he was asked to play with Cyndi Thompson, starting another new chapter in his career. It was the first of many tours that would follow with such diverse artists as Edwin McCain, Hank Williams Jr., Jedd Hughes, Maia Sharp, Emily West, and many others. Playing with these various artists has led to performing at so many great iconic venues such as the Grand Ole Opry along with TV appearances on many of the late night and daytime talk shows. It also led to a whole new side of Nick's career as a session drummer.  Nick's unique drumming style combines his delicate touch with a soulful r&b backbeat and an explosive energy, which adds depth and excitement to his tracks. He's never afraid to take chances with music, which sets him apart as a player. His unmistakeable style infiltrates both live and studio settings putting him in high demand amongst the Music Row elite.  His playing is featured on country/pop sensation Taylor Swift's first 5 multi-platinum albums. This includes "Fearless", which won many Grammy's including Album Of The Year. Other artists Nick has recorded with include: Richard Marx, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Kenny Loggins, Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride and Randy Houser to name a few.     Nick's playing style has already helped influence a new sound in Nashville, and his diverse track record is continually expanding in various directions, but the wooden spoons now stay in the kitchen.   Some Things That Came Up:    -Pandemic sessions  -Building careers in early 2000's -Berklee, Colonel Bruce  -The Golden Groove  -Cindy Thompson  -Bruce Wallace, Ethan Pilzer, Steve Mackey  -No lessons!  -Gadd, Vega, Vinnie, Porcaro -Moving to States at (13)  -Fast cars and a growing family  -Meeting Vinnie and Sting -Finishing Berklee -Colonel Bruce gig in Atlanta and hanging with Richie Hayward -Nathan Chapman, Tim Marks and Taylor Swift  -Matt Billingslea and re-recording Taylors early records  -Noble and Cooley drums  -Dolly Parton  -Pricing -Producing and practicing piano  -The University School of Nashville  -The NEW Nashville  -Advice for upcoming creatives  -Kenny Chesney Tour 2022     Follow:  www.nickbuda.com IG: @nickbuda     The Rich Redmond Show is about all things music, motivation and success.
