In this special episode (an edit and remix of Episode 63 from 2020), Scott Chernoff and Dan Madsen tell the story of how they brought it to life. From the tragedy of the Columbine shooting just days before to a 100-year rain that turned Wings Over the Rockies into a muddy mess to Lucasfilm considering pulling the plug at the last minute, Dan and Scott give you the inside scoop. In 1999 the very first Star Wars Celebration took place in Denver Colorado. It was not without it's challenges. From torrential 100 year rains to the tragedy at Columbine days before. However, Dan Madsen of the Lucasfilm Fan Club and Scott Chernoff of Star Wars Insider led the charge and it became one of the most memorable and important Star Wars fan events of all time. @THEDanMadsen and @ScottChernoff on Twitter Watch new episodes of #AroundTheGalaxy every Tuesday at 12:00 noon EST / 9 PST at YouTube.com/BeyondTheBlastDoors Original Dan Madsen episode: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-30-dan-madsen/id1460815340?i=1000449194616 Original Scott Chernoff episode: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-25-scott-chernoff/id1460815340?i=1000446226110 Around the Galaxy online: www.BeyondTheBlastDoors.com www.Patreon.com/BeyondTheBlastDoors.com @ATGcast Our host: www.PeteFletzer.com ATG Swag: www.TeePublic.com/users/AroundTheGalaxy Theme Music: Apollo’s Ghost, Available on iTunes Please subscribe, like, share, rate us 5 stars and review us. Welcome to another Modern Moron Celebrity Guest episode. That’s right depending on your definition of the word celebrity, this guest could be so incredibly cool or mean absolutely nothing to you. Recognize this?... That is the voice of Scott Chernoff who plays “Gearman” from the VERY popular animated show “Rick and Morty” on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. And if I know my audience you may not only be saying what the hell is Rick and Morty, it’s possible some of you might be saying what the hell is Adult Swim. As for the term Cartoon Network, I think that’s fairly self explanatory. Adult Swim is Cartoon Network’s adult content that airs after 11PM and is not entirely animated content. If you’re in the MM demographic you know by now that a thing can be “a thing” long, LONG before we are aware it’s a thing. And by “a thing” I mean popular and in the public conscious generally speaking. You know for kids. For example Rick & Morty. Cinemablend.com A relatively well known entertainment news site, says this about Rick and Morty: “while Rick and Morty still has a ways to go before being considered on the same level as The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy, it's certainly fast approaching that territory, and may ultimately become the show Adult Swim is most remembered for.” If you watched the Superbowl you probably also enjoyed the commercials that cost $5.25M per thirty seconds. Hopefully you remember the pringles commercial: So this show is a pretty big deal as are its creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland. My guest Scott Chernoff first met Justin around 2002 through a creative outlet in Los Angeles called Channel 101. YouTube didn’t start until 2005 so the people involved in Channel 101 couldn’t gather virtually, they would gather at a restaurant and later at a place called cinespace on Hollywood Boulevard. Scott tells a story about Justin Roiland’s first submission to channel 101 and that it did NOT make it past its initial screening. It was cut. I point that out to show that most people’s path to success is not a smooth path with no rejections or challenges even if you are considered a creative genius or even just extremely talented. Thomas Edison said “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” So I talk to Scott about his days with Channel 101 and then I jump to Scott telling me about his time as a writer for Conan O’Brien during the infamous and short lived Tonight Show starring Conan O’brien on NBC. But I don’t have a smooth way to segue to that part of the conversation so … there’s an intermission… what do you want this show is made by a moron. Old School Star Wars fans know Scott Chernoff as the managing editor of the publication that was their only lifeline to Star Wars during the dark times before the Special Editions and the Prequels: Star Wars Insider. After leaving the magazine shortly after Attack of the Clones, Scott went on to be a writer for Conan O'Brien and BoJack Horseman and an actor on Adult Swim shows Rick and Morty and Hotstreets. In this episode of Around the Galaxy, the Star Wars Fan Talkshow, Scott joins us to share some fun and funny stories about his unprecedented access to the Prequels, thoughts on the Disney-era Star Wars films and the ugliness of the FandomMenace. 4:15 - Original Star Wars Celebration(s) 8:30 Early access to the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones 13:30 Responding to the Prequels 16:45 The Yoda puppet 19:45 Great experiences and appreciating the gig 26:00 The Dark Times 33:00 After Insider 37:15 Star Wars Holiday Special and the "creepy" Ewok movies 39:30 Dear 2-1B 44:00 The Disney era 48:45 The sequels and anthology films are fan fiction 50:30 The FandomMenace 60:00 Ten Questions @ScottChernoff on Twitter Around the Galaxy online: www.Patreon.com/AroundTheGalaxy @ATGcast Our host: www.PeteFletzer.com ATG Swag: www.TeePublic.com/users/AroundTheGalaxy Making Star Wars Podcast Network: www.MakingStarWars.net Theme Music: Apollo’s Ghost, Available on iTunes Please subscribe, like, share, rate us 5 stars and review us. In this episode, I interview two guys I would describe as "fucking hilarious," Steve Agee and Scott Chernoff. They are both writer/actor/comedians with many amazing credits to each of their names ("Jimmy Kimmel Live," "The Sarah Silverman Program," "Tom Goes To The Mayor," "Two Broke Girls," to name a few).
