What if real evangelism was never meant to feel like selling… but like loving? In this episode of Two Pastors and a Mic, Cory and Channock unpack Cory's free eBook “How to Understand the Gospel and Share It Effectively.” They challenge the old pressure-driven models of church outreach and invite listeners into a relational, grace-based vision of evangelism rooted in identity, belonging, and reconciliation. This episode is all about clearing the fog around the gospel and rediscovering the heart behind sharing it — not urgency, not assignments, not agenda… but presence, peace, and people. You'll hear:
December is HIV/AIDS Awareness Month. So we're going to go back in time to 1988. It was the height of the AIDS crisis. Marcy Fraser and Michelle Francis worked together in hospice care in San Francisco. In this StoryCorps episode from 2015, they look back on the moment their friendship was cemented for life. Then, Karen Van Dine was a prayer counselor in a healing circle at a gay ministry in the Castro. Her personal and professional relationships were steeped in the love and loss that came out of the tragic circumstances of the AIDS epidemic. Karen shared this history with the non-profit My Life, My Stories in 2018.

Something unusual happened recently at the Miss USA beauty contest: Miss Nevada, 22-year-old Mary Sickler, walked on stage without any hair. She had lost it to a condition known as alopecia but, until that moment, had worn a wig in public. Tens of millions of women around the world suffer from some form of hair loss and the story has sparked a global conversation. We bring together three women with alopecia, in the US, South Africa and the Netherlands. Many people having cancer treatment can also lose their hair – it's usually temporary but can be permanent. Three women whose hair fell out during cancer treatment share their experiences of baldness, wigs and dating mishaps.

“Pigs have flown!” “Hell has frozen over!” “Get ready to party with the Lombardi!” All lines that have been cemented in the brain of every New Orleans Saints fan on the planet. And that's just a small sliver of the career of legendary broadcaster Jim Henderson. We're happy to say that Jim joined Jim Derry on Friday's Dattitude Podcast presented by Evangeline Securities to celebrate the 400th episode to talk about his 47 years in New Orleans, including how it all started. What was it like to work with Archie Manning, Hokie Gajan and Deuce McAllister? How much grief did he take when he replaced Hap Glaudi, and how did he get past it? So many questions, and so little time! Also, Jim previews the Saints-Chargers preseason game coming up Sunday, and later asks Gabe Henderson for his analysis on his NFL team predictions from the AFC East and NFC East done earlier this week.

We usually talk about the stories we tell about ourselves. We use stories to showcase our marketable qualities. We explain and promote our offers. In this episode, we flip the script. We focus on getting other people to tell their stories. Often their stories will be essential for our own marketing. For example, when you interview a podcast guest, you want that guest to tell an exciting story that will be memorable to your audience. When you ask for a testimonial, you want a story about how you helped the client. When you conduct client research or an intake interview, you want the client's uncensored point of view. Too many entrepreneurs rely on generic “why” questions and end up with boring, same-old answers. Besides your own storytelling, you want to find a way to get others to tell their stories. On this episode, you'll discover: ...Why “why” questions sabotage your interviews ...Questions to ask to spark meaningful, entertaining stories ...The four-part interview structure that produces the best stories ...Why you must avoid opinions and advice (and get good stories instead) ...How to understand why they might avoid hard-core truth in their stories As always, please leave a review, preferably on Apple or Spotify. Let me know how you're using your client's stories in your marketing. What works? What doesn't? Hello to you listening in Victoria, BC, CanadaLand!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more for a change up) for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. My friend Michelle asked me something that made me stop and think. She said, "You always end Story Prompt Friday with 'Write that story!' But you believe in the music of the spoken word - telling stories out loud - why not say that?Michelle knows me well. Here's the thing about our voices - they carry magic that our fingers can't capture. When you write your story, you're having a conversation with yourself. It's a lovely and necessary place to begin. But when you speak your story out loud, something different happens. Something powerful.Your voice carries the rhythm of your heartbeat. It holds the catch in your throat when you remember something tender. It speeds up when you get excited and slows down when the moment matters most. These aren't just sounds - they're the music of your experience.Think about the last time someone told you a story that made you lean in closer. Was it their words alone? Or was it the way their voice dropped to an intimate whisper? The way they paused right before the surprise? The way their whole face lit up when they got to the good part? When you tell your story out loud, you're not just sharing information. You're sharing yourself. Your voice carries your personality, your emotions, your truth in ways that words on a page simply cannot. Here's what I've learned in thirty years of teaching people to tell their stories: most of us have forgotten how powerful our voices are. We text instead of call. We email instead of visit. We've become quiet.Your story needs your voice. It needs the way you say certain words. It needs your pauses, your emphasis, your breath. These aren't extras - they're essential story ingredients. When you stand up and tell your story, you're claiming space in the world. You're saying, "This happened. This matters. I matter." That's not just storytelling - that's courage. And here's the magical surprise: when you tell your story out loud, you hear it differently than when you write it. You discover new meanings. You find the parts that will move your listeners. You learn which moments need more time and which ones can move faster.Your voice teaches you about your own story.Your stories are waiting for the full power of your voice. They're waiting for the music of the spoken word only you can make.So yes, write your stories. But don't stop there. Find someone to tell them to, a loved one, an animal companion, even to yourself as you're walking outside or working in your garden. That's where I practice! The academic year has just ended, but student activists for Palestinian liberation are already making plans for next year. On today's show I talk with organizers from the University of Oregon (Cole Herman), from CUNY Graduate Center (Flora deTournay), and from Stanford (Iman Deriche) about this past year's hunger strike campaigns—we learn of concerted efforts to change the narrative and raise support for those resisting Israel's genocide. We speak of the need to engage the diverse but broad base of support for Palestine, to build strength, and to creatively bypass administrative indifference and repression. Full of useful information that inspires, this episode is important listening for the summer. Please also check for our upcoming blog on this episode, where we will share resources and ideas.

Let's talk about the C-word: Caregiving. In this episode, we continue our monthly series, NEXT AGE, with stories of people who are caring for an older adult relative. If you're thinking "who cares?" — this might make you feel differently:According to a report from the National Alliance for Caregiving, for every five people you know, at least one of them is caring for a family member and even more are caring for more than one relative. They are unpaid — often unseen and sacrificing well-being, finances and identity.Caregiving is now a universal experience impacting every age, gender, socioeconomic and racial or ethnic group. In the words of the late former first lady Rosalyn Carter: “There are only four kinds of people in the world:Those who have been caregivers. Those who are currently caregivers. Those who will be caregivers,And those who will need a caregiver.” It can be a rewarding experience; but it can also be a physical, financial and emotional struggle. This episode will share stories of local people caring for an older adult relative. We'll hear from aging advocates about services and support systems for family caregivers, learn about options for longterm care allowing people to age at home, and we'll find out the latest research on strategies for coping and finding well-being.Our show is made possible by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and our series on aging is made possible by a grant from The West End Home Foundation — enriching the lives of older adults though grantmaking, advocacy and community collaboration. This episode was produced by LaTonya Turner.GUESTS: Kenya Watkins, Family Caregiver Tiffany Cloud-Mann, Eldercare Coach/AgeWell Middle Tennessee Keri Pagetta, Sandwich Generation caregiver Dr. Feylyn Lewis, Caregiving Researcher / Dean of Student Affairs, Vanderbilt University School of Nursing William Zagorski, Executive Director / Centennial Adultcare Center

Minnesota has a rich literary scene and one way to find books by local authors is to check out the annual list of finalists for the Minnesota Book Awards. For the first time since 2006, anthologies are a category on that list. These are collections of stories, poems, and even visual art that are organized around a theme. The stories in one of the finalist works this year may be familiar to anyone who's stumbled into a deep conversation in a bathroom or on a bus. In fact, the idea for “Locker Room Talk: Women in Private Spaces” came to co-editor Michelle Filkins after she witnessed one of those moments. She joins MPR News host Nina Moini along with New York Times bestselling author Alison McGhee, who is one of the writers featured in the anthology.MPR News has spoken with a number of writers on the list of 2025 Minnesota Book Award finalists, including Louise Erdrich, Mubanga Kalimamukwento, and Anne Ursu, as well as Graywolf Press, which is nominated for its 50th anniversary poetry collection.

Hello to you listening in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more for a story) for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. How do we get good at turning toward the uncertain future? How do we sustain ourselves, and each other? How can we help each other, even--or especially--those with whom we don't agree, through the revolutions ahead? I have an idea. We can share our stories. Here's one.The great Polish rabbi, Israel ben Eliezer, also known as the Ba'al Shem Tov, deeply loved his people. Whenever they were troubled or persecuted he went to a sacred place in the forest, lit a sacred fire, and said a special prayer asking God to protect his people. It was enough and the people were saved. But in time the Ba'al Shem Tov died. Later, his disciple, following in his master's footsteps, went into the same part of the forest and said, “Creator of the Universe, I do not know how to light the sacred fire, but I do know the special prayer; please, hear me! and help your people.” And it was enough.Generations passed and when the next Rabbi saw how his people were being persecuted, he went into the forest and said, “Oh, Lord, I don't know how to light the sacred fire, nor do I know the special prayer, but I still remember the place. Help us! Protect the people” And the people were protected.Decades later, a very elderly rabbi seeing his people being persecuted, spoke to God saying, “I don't know how to light the sacred fire, nor do I know the special prayer, and I can't even find the place in the forest. All I can do is tell you this story and hope that you will hear me. Please help the people!” And again the people were spared.Story Prompt: When we find ourselves lost in the forest, do not know how to light the sacred fire, or say the special prayer, we can share our stories. What else might we do to help each other?
