Something going on far above us, in orbit, might be doing more to shape the future of humanity than any events here on earth. Up there is one of the most powerful tools humans have ever had to hunt for the origins of our universe – and for alien life. The James Webb Space Telescope has the ability to look so far and with such clarity that we can get an insight into a period of time that our best scientists have only ever speculated about: the cosmic dark ages. Today we revisit our conversation with the director of the Space Technology and Industry Institute at Swinburne University, Dr Alan Duffy, on why the last year marked a new beginning for our understanding of the universe. For my first convention review, I'm joined by journalist, Dean Rogers of pop culture news site, The Rogers Revue. Together, we discuss our collective and separate experiences at the convention as well as some general best practices for going to a convention. As a frequent comic con attendee myself, I was struck by the differences and similarities that I experienced in this convention space. Dean and I cover subjects from the current state of fandom to the emotional experience of celebrity interactions and between all that, I give Farpoint my convention score with my new "convention rubic". Have a listen and I can't wait to hear what you think. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/interspectional/support

The world of Indian food became poorer on the 21st of July 2022 with the passing away of Pia Promina Dasgupta Barve in Mumbai. There was a spontaneous outpouring of grief from the many lives she had touched. To know about the multifaceted life she led, do read this article by food researcher Pritha Sen...https://tinyurl.com/4eeevr7t Many call Pia the pioneer home chef. She was baking from a time when most of us were not even born. She was behind the setting up of the iconic Kewpie restaurant in Kolkata. She moved to Mumbai where she was a lone woman working in the meat industry and she had also worked closely with the agricultural produce sector. Her culinary skills spanned not only her native Bengali cuisine, but that of the Maharashtrian side of her husband, whom she called Brave (from Barve), the colonial cuisine of the British Raj, anglo Indian, Jewish, Iranian (she had fed me tahdig once when she read that I had fond memories of it), Asian and what not; but what was most special to me were the eclairs she would make for my wife, Kainaz, because they made K smile like few other treats would. It is one of my regrets that I was not in touch with her in her last few months. I was going through my own health issues but to be honest, it was nothing that was big enough to stop me from making a phone call or from sending a text. My little way of making up to her was to reach out to some of the many whose lives she had touched and invite them to speak about her in my podcast. As I listened to Reshmy Kurian, Tara Deshpande, Manzilat Fatima and Mashushree Basu Roy & Anindya S Basu @Cook with Pikturenama share their memories of Pia, I realised that not interviewing her while I could for the #foodocracyforher is something I will always regret. Which is why, as I typed this, I decided that #foodocracyforher should have a Hall of Fame and that I would like to most humbly declare Pia Promina Dasgputa Barve its first star. The award winning #podcast #FoodocracyForHer by Kalyan Karmakar is India's longest running podcast featuring women entrepreneurs in the food and beverage business. Please share the episode. Return to the far, far, away galaxy for a look back at the first of the most recent Star Wars films, "Episode VII: The Force Awakens". Since this was released less than a year before the start of our podcast, we never got the chance to make this movie it's own conversation. Does revisiting this film seven years later do it any favours? Or is it haunted by what became of its sequels? Music and audio from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is the property of John Williams, Kathleen Kennedy, J.J Abrams, Bryan Burk, Bad Robot Productions, and Lucasfilm Ltd. The intro and outro music was created by Cackles and Jeremy Eckert. We thank them for their generous support of this podcast. Check out our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/batjarpodcast. The first Star Wars Celebration took place in Denver, Colorado ... and it almost didn't. In this special episode (an edit and remix of Episode 63 from 2020), Scott Chernoff and Dan Madsen tell the story of how they brought it to life. From the tragedy of the Columbine shooting just days before to a 100-year rain that turned Wings Over the Rockies into a muddy mess to Lucasfilm considering pulling the plug at the last minute, Dan and Scott give you the inside scoop. Dan Madsen is a former president of the Official Star Wars Fan Club and the founder and former publisher of the Star Wars Insider magazine. A journalistic writer, he contributed many of the interviews and pieces to the Lucasfilm Fan Club Magazine as well as writing the "Making Of" book for The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles TV series. He made a cameo appearance in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace as a kaadu handler, dubbed Dams Denna in Star Wars Legends. Scott Chernoff is a writer, editor, and performer who has worked extensively for official Star Wars publications, most notably Star Wars Insider magazine, where he was a writer and Managing Editor. He also wrote regularly for Star Wars Kids and contributed to Star Wars Galaxy Magazine and StarWars.com. The Lesson: The stereotype of the Hollywood producer is one of self-involvement, packed schedules, and rudeness. By definition however, producers know how to make things happen, and in the case of Peter Samuelson, that's involved 25 films, creating and raising over a billion dollars for 5 separate charities that work in children's hospitals and foster care organizations providing psycho-neuro-immunology, dream-making, and improving education outcomes. Notable Excerpt: "He (Steven Spielberg) said, 'well if we're going to raise money, maybe I should give some money,' and I said, 'I think that'd be very good, you're the chairman so I think that'd be excellent thank you for suggesting that.' He said, 'what do you think I should give?' I said 'I have no idea. Furthermore if I had an idea, there's no way that I'm telling Steven Spielberg what he should give to charity.' He said 'You can't leave until you give me a number,' so it was like a face off." The Guest: Holding an MA from Cambridge, Peter Samuelson is a prolific Hollywood Film Producer, Educator, Media Executive and Serial Social Impact Entrepreneur having created 5 major charities -  Starlight, Starbright World, First Star, AspireLabs, and Edar.   In addition to producing 25 films, Peter continues to dedicate every day to fight for those less fortunate than others, specifically America's abused and neglected children.    Episode Resources: Peter Samuelson | LinkedIn Peter Samuelson | Facebook Peter Samuelson | Twitter Peter Samuelson | Website

The Dallas Stars' preseason is nearly at its end, and things look...good? But now that the Braden Holtby, Starting Goaltender conversation has begun in earnest, what else should we be noticing? Wes and Taylor have seen a few things in the preseason that have burned the Victory Green Gang in the regular season. So they spent a good half-hour taking inventory. (PLEASE NOTE: This conversation took place before the Stars' 3-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, in which Taylor herself chose Anton Khudobin as the First Star of the Game, so there's that.) In this edition: Has Braden Holtby's preseason performance helped clarify the Stars' netminding decisions? What should we make of the amount of ice time allotted to the top forwards? Strike that: What should we make of Alexander Radulov out there blocking shots in a preseason game? Has Mavrik Bourque played his way into a nine-game tester? Will Jacob Peterson be on the opening-night roster? What are the chances that Dallas carries an extra forward instead of an eighth defenseman this season? What does all of this say about the Stars' roster depth? And what form of this team will head into the regular season? Know the code: “Maple” is turtling when you're down a goal, “Honey” is turtling when you're up a goal. And there's more where that came from, because this is Stargazing. Are you ready for the regular season, except for that one nagging question about the existential crisis of Stars fandom? Then be part of the next podcast: Post your questions in the comments or at Defending Big D, or DM us @WesALawrence or @KETibbetts.
