Ser Barristan Selmy was a knight who served in the Kingsguard with distinction for over forty years. Nicknamed Barristan the Bold, he was considered by many to be one of the best swordsmen and most honorable men in all the Seven Kingdoms. However, the end of his life was a search for redemption, attempting to right wrongs, make up for failures and reclaim lost honor. But once again, the sum of the man may have been missed and the shadow he cast was far larger than we all could fathom. Press play and meet the man, the myth and the legend.Contact:Email: southsidewesteros@gmail.comWebsite: Home | South Side WesterosIG: Southsidewesteros (@southsidewesteros)Twitter: South Side Westeros (@Sswesteros) / TwitterFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/southsidewesteros/Donate:Buy me Coffee: SswesterosPatreon: South Side WesterosCashapp: $southsidewesterosSupport the showSupport the showSupport the show
We've reached the point of no return with this week's episode, Season 5, Episode 4 entitled "Sons of the Harpy." This is the episode where a lot of stupid stuff happens with little to no return, because unlike last week's episode where the story was actually pretty engaging despite the lack of payoff, here we're provided with stupid moment after stupid moment with little in-between to tie it all together. It's the real beginning to me of Benioff & Weiss' downfall with their critical reception, because this is the first of a series of episodes that are just poorly written with very little to actually excuse or justify it. Cersei enacts the plan to take over the city by restoring the Faith Militant, completely confusing poor Tommen & us the audience who are baffled by Cersei's lack of foresight as to the Sparrow's future actions. Melisandre attempts to seduce Jon with poor results, Tyrion realizes Jorah kidnapped him for nothing since they're both going to the same place, Jaime & Bronn arrive in Dorne, we're introduced to the Sand Snakes and Sansa says goodbye to Littlefinger, who conveniently tells her that Stannis is marching on Winterfell. We also get the next worst action sequence with the Sons of the Harpy's ambush of Grey Worm's troupe of Unsullied, wherein they proceed to kill everyone of them but Grey Worm, who has now inherited Ramsay Bolton's plot armor from last season. It unfortunately doesn't extend to Ser Barristan though, who meets his tragic end this episode attempting to help Grey Worm and his soldiers, a death that was so stupid even the actor who played Ser Barristan, Ian McElhinney, voiced his complaints with how he thought the character's death was poorly thought out.

"They will eat you if I tell them to, they may eat you even if I don't." This is what Daenerys tells the masters as she looks to punish them for the Sons of the Harpy attack by bringing them to her chained up dragons beneath the Great Pyramid of Mereen. Back in Westeros Margaery Tyrell becomes Queen once more with her marriage to King Tommen, We are introduced to the most dangerous Sparrow in the Seven Kingdoms and Tyrion is captured by a familiar face. Meanwhile, Jaime Lannister and Bronn sail to Dorne for a search and rescue of Princess Myrcella which turns out to be easier said than done thanks to some Sand Snakes. In the North, Lord Baelish talks with Sansa about the possible outcomes of the impending battle for Winterfell between the Boltons and Stannis Baratheon. Jon Snow is making his case for allowing the wildings past The Wall so they do not become part of the army of the dead. The Sons of the Harpy ambush Grey Worm and the Unsullied, Ser Barristan finds them and they give the harpies a fight for the ages, but one of them does not make it out alive. In King's Landing, Ser Loras is on trial that has ramifications for everyone. In Winterfell, Sansa marries Ramsay Bolton and the very same night, she learns what kind of monster Ramsay really is. Join the Riddikulus Crew as we continue down the long glorious path of A Song of Ice and Fire and on our ride through the ups and downs of Season 5, episodes 3-6 as well as the ending of A Feast For Crows! Just like Ramsay tells Theon on his and Sansa's wedding night, "We want you to watch."

Hello! And welcome to a very, very special edition of the NotACast ... podcast - a patreon sample episode where PoorQuentyn and BryndenBFish throwdown on the fate of Ser Barristan Selmy! Now, if you listen to us regularly, you know that typically, we give you all one chapter per week, but this past week, both Emmett and Jeff had some IRL responsibilities which prevented them from recording the next chapter episode. So, instead as a little treat, we are making our first patreon-only episode of the NotACast podcast available to the general public! In this nearly 2 hour long episode, we cover topics like: - The story of Ser Barristan so far - Do we like Barristan? Is he a hero or a villain? (The answer may surprise you!) - Emmett's arguments: the cowboy's last ride, the dangers in Meereen, the need to hew down the # of POV characters - Jeff's arguments: Barristan as a Rhaegar fanboy and what Aegon's reveal would mean to Barristan, Dany is too OP for the second dance of the dragons, Barristan's guilt in serving Aerys and how that may mean something when a reborn Dany arrives back in Westeros It's great fun, and please consider our patreon if you're able to (But if not, no worries, friends. We'll keep doing our chapter by chapters for YOU!) To quickly recap what our patreon is and the reward tiers, it’s: $1-4/month: Sparrows: A Thank you from us at the end credits, show notes $5-9/month: Poor Fellows: Thanks and show notes, special episodes $10-19/month: Sworn Swords:Thanks, show notes, special episodes 1 day early release of main episodes, show notes for special episodes and the option to submit a question for us to answer in our rotating “Question of the week” $20-29/month: Kingsguard:Thanks, show notes, special episodes 2 day early release of main episodes, show notes for special episodes and the option to submit a question for us to answer in our rotating “Question of the week” $30 and above/month: Lords Commander: Thanks, show notes, special episodes 3 day early release of main episodes, show notes for special episodes and the option to submit a question for us to answer in our rotating “Question of the week”, all episodes are brought to you by your, yes your name! The long night since the last podcast is over, and Andrew and Manu are ready to talk some "Wolf and the Lion." Ser Barristan and Ned reminisce about their days on the Trident while musing over Ser Hugh's grim fate, Robert messes with Lancel and has to be talked out of jousting by Ned, and the audience gets its first exposure to the glory of Cleganebowl. We also spent a little time at the start discussing possible prequels and spin-offs given HBO's talks about it and the word that such a show wouldn't come until at least 2020. May we get one more Cleganebowl before this show ends. Watchers on the Wall story about the prequels/spin-offs iTunes link Google Play link

This week's episode of Game of Thrones may not have quite packed the same level of action that we've become used to, but “Kill the Boy” didn't disappoint in its character drama and we're ready to dive right into all of it. On this installment of The Cast Beyond the Wall, we're joined by special guests Dalton Stuart and Jessica Martin to discuss all of the latest developments in the north side of Westeros. We were all shocked by the passing of Ser Barristan after last week's cliffhanger and we try to decide whether or not showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss gave the understated fan favorite his due. In the fallout of his death, Daenerys makes a vengeful decision to begin burning the former slave owners alive. It may not be one of the most diplomatic solutions, but we chime in with our thoughts on how well her moves will play with the rest of Mereen. This season of Game of Thrones continues to give Stannis knock out moments and this week was no exception. The self-declared king continues to win us over with his respectable decisions and great one on one talks with all of our favorite characters. Before finally departing the wall, Stannis has a few last words with Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly. After decapitating the despicable Janos Slynt a couple of episodes back, Jon continues to make controversial moves in his role as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. We take a closer look at his polarizing decision to work with the wildlings and set the likes of Ollie against him. The family drama in Winterfell began to ramp up this week as well now that Sansa is starting to settle into her old home. After years of being apart, she is finally reunited with Theon and the results are truly twisted. There's certainly a lot to discuss this week and as always, we break it all down in our lengthy and in-depth discussion. Tune in below and be sure to leave a comment letting us know what you thought of “Kill the Boy.” Subscribe on iTunes Follow us on Facebook Watch us on Youtube Don't miss all of the latest Game of Thrones updates at We Got This Covered
This week Julian and Daniel discuss how Daenerys' deals with the attack on Grey Worm and Ser Barristan, Jon's plans for the Wildlings, Stannis finally leaving Castle Black, Sana's old/new home and Jorrah and Tyrion's voyage into Old Valeria.
Johnny makes his triumphant return after sitting Shiva for Ser Barristan, and he and Alexandra dive right into such trenchant topics as, "Big Brother: The Vale of Arryn Edition," why one NEVER goes full Greyscale, Shireen's impending doom and Tormund Giantsbane's use of sign-language. AVOID minutes 23-27 if you don't want to be spoiled for something minor - things got away from us. Also, ignore me when I say that this is one of our shorter episodes. It's not.
In a slowdown before the second half of the season, “Sons of the Harpy” is light on plot and heavy on setup. Its explosive conclusion—Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) and Ser Barristan’s (Ian McElhinney) showdown with their eponymous adversaries of the episode—is preceded by more conversation and character work than action. But is that such a bad […] The post Stark Contrast: Episode 4 “Sons of the Harpy” appeared first on Movie Fail.
