Going Rogue With Caitlin Johnstone
The Mass Media Used To Publish Perspectives On Ukraine They Would Never Publish Today

Going Rogue With Caitlin Johnstone

The other day I stumbled across a 2014 opinion piece in The Guardian titled "It's not Russia that's pushed Ukraine to the brink of war" by Seumas Milne, who the following year would go on to become the Labour Party's Executive Director of Strategy and Communications under Jeremy Corbyn. I bring this up because the perspectives you'll find in that article are jarring in how severely they deviate from anything you'll see published in the mainstream press about Ukraine in 2023. It places the brunt of the blame for the violence and tensions in that nation at that time squarely at Washington's feet, opening with a warning that the "threat of war in Ukraine is growing" and saying there's an "unelected government in Kiev," and it only gets naughtier from there. We finally did it. After succeeding in driving him out of the Labour Party, we managed to trick Mike Gapes into appearing on our podcast for an exclusive interview. With our man Rupert on the ground in Ilford South to talk to the Gapeman and his campaign manager Jack (not to be confused with our Jack, who has never even claimed to be Gapes' election agent), Jack (@gapesology) and Geraint (@waluigitifo) are joined in RP Studios St Petersburg by Ilford investigative reporter extraordinaire Mr Jimothy Baker to discuss the alleged disappearance of Gapes' alleged former campaign manage Richard Miller, and the alleged web of intrigue surrounding it, particularly the mysterious gang of allegedly violent street thugs "The Gape Goons". In his interview with the show, Gapes is quizzed on the big issues, including the Reel Politik podcast, the MIWK, Russia, Mr Seumas Milne, Mr Richard Miller and why the Lib Dems are a big pile of shit. In our final major revelation, we premiere an exclusive "Miwk Tape" leaked to the podcast by a source close to Team Gapes. In a special Reel Politik, Yair, Jack and Tom are joined by comrade @Pete_Begins off of Twitter - although Yair actually left five minutes in to go swimming - for a rip-roaring round of our acclaimed, ubiquitous game Cop or Comrade, in which we answer such questions as - who is the de facto leader of the opposition? Which centrist politician is our lord and saviour on earth? Which state is the "diseased maggot cock of America"? And, was the film 'Moonlight' scripted by Seumas Milne in a transparent attempt to further the insidious project of the Islington Elite? All these questions and more will be answered in the show! Note: we recorded this a couple of weeks ago, so the bit about M*lo was recorded before his controversial pro-noncing stance came to light. As ever, there are no claims herein that we would be interested in defending in a court of law.

Last October Seumas Milne, a Winchester- and Oxford-educated left-winger, was granted unpaid leave from his position at The Guardian to enter the world of political spin as executive director of strategy and communications in Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party. The appointment wasn't without controversy. Milne has been labelled a Stalinist by David Cameron and caused division at The Guardian for chairing an event with President Putin. Jeremy Corbyn has chosen a hard-left thinker as his right-hand man. As the Labour Party hustings come to a close this week, Adam Fleming speaks to friends and colleagues to find out about the man who's at the heart of the Corbyn project. Producer: Smita Patel.

In this 13 min. podcast, Chuck Carlson analyzes and compares two articles, "Now the truth emerges: How the US fuelled the rise of ISIS in Syria and Iraq" by Seumas Milne and "America's Allies Are Funding ISIS" by Josh Rogin to reveal something very interesting. There's so much disinformation about what's going on in the Middle East, it's difficult to tell what the truth is.  There's no question that the perpetual meddling by the US in the Middle East and the 25 years of wars against Iraq were bound to create some enemies and "blow-back."

Bishopsgate Institute Podcast

Thirty years ago, miners went on strike across Britain to resist the Tory government's plans for sweeping pit closures. The strike remains the longest mass industrial dispute in British history - a war between Margaret Thatcher and the labour movement, and the miners’ union she branded "the enemy within" in particular. The strike’s outcome signalled a profound change in Britain’s social and economic landscape and its aftershocks can still be felt throughout the country today. The Enemy Within, Seumas Milne’s classic account of the miners’ strike and its aftermath, reveals the astonishing lengths to which Thatcher’s government and its security machine were prepared to go to destroy the power of the trade unions. Recently declassified government papers have provided further revelations about the secret war against organised labour and political dissent, reflected in today's undercover police operations. Seumas Milne will be joined in discussion by Arthur Scargill, former president of the NUM from 1982-2002, union organiser Ewa Jasiewicz, Owen Jones, author of Chavs, for a special event looking at the legacy of the miners’ strike and its lessons for the future, chaired by journalist Dawn Foster.
