Join us for Week 5 of our message series "The POWER of Worship" given by Fr. Michael White. Every human heart was created for worship. Whether we realize it or not, we are always giving our attention, devotion, and lives to something. But the deepest purpose of our lives is to worship the God who created us and loves us. Worship is more than music, prayers, or the time we spend at Mass each weekend; it is the response of our whole lives to the presence and love of God. In this series, we will explore what it means to be people who are truly made for worship. Worship begins when we encounter the risen Jesus and recognize who he is, and through the power of the Holy Spirit our worship comes alive and transforms our hearts. As we grow in faith, we discover that worship flows from the love of the Trinity and reaches its fullest expression in the Eucharist, where we receive the living presence of Christ. From that encounter, we are sent into the world to live lives of love, service, and mission, discovering that worship is not just something we attend, but something we become.

Three summers ago when Charlie Bowen took his first tremulous steps into the world of banjocity, he bought a six-string banjo … and immediately got grief.“That ain't no banjo!” one friend declared. “That's just a guitar with delusions of grandeur. You can play dress it up all you want, man, but you're not playing a banjo.”“Okay, now, wait a minute,” Charlie protested. “If a banjo's got four strings, it's a banjo, right?”“Sure,” the friend conceded. “That's a tenor banjo, like the late, great Chuck Romine used to play.”“And if it has five strings, it's a banjo?”“Well, of course. That's God's own old-time and bluegrass banjo.”“But,” Charlie persisted, “if it's got six stings, it's NOT a banjo?!”“Nope,” the friend insisted. “You can call it a ‘banjitar' if you'd like or ‘ganjo,' but don't be calling it a banjo.”“You know what, old buddy?” Charlie concluded. “You are a banjo bigot!”But despite his brave front, Bowen finally caved to the peer pressure. The six-string banjo (which by then he had lovingly christened “Buzzkill”) was retired to a lonely closet. In its place Charlie bought his first five-string and began to learn tunes.Truth be told, Bowen has fallen in love with the instrument, practicing every day, even starting to work the five-string into a corner of The Flood's repertoire on a song or two (or three…).Schooled by Seva VenetBy the beginning of this year, Buzzkill had been pretty much forgotten. That is, until last month when Charlie and Pamela traveled to New Orleans for a wonderful Road Scholar program built around the annual French Quarter Festival, four solid days of memorable music.A highlight the whole long weekend was when legendary clarinetist Dr. Michael White played a private concert for the Road Scholar folks at their hotel. Sitting in with White's quartet that morning was renowned New Orleanian Seva Venet, who was holding down the rhythm section with his six-string Vega banjo.During the intermission, Charlie chatted with Venet, who said that he was quite aware of how provincial some banjo fanciers could be. However, Seva said, the six-string banjo has a proud legacy all its own. In fact, the banjo of choice for most players of early jazz and blues was the six-string.Johnny St. Cyr, he noted, famously played his six-string in Louis Armstrong's Hot Five and Hot Seven groups as well as with Jelly Roll Morton's various ensembles. Legendary New Orleanian Danny Barker and early bluesman Papa Charlie Jackson also played the six. Even jazz superstar Django Reinhardt started out playing a six-string banjo in the dance halls of Paris, long before he cemented his legacy as the pioneer of the gypsy jazz guitar. The secret to playing the instrument, Seva said, is that, while it is tuned like a guitar, it's not played like one. Don't pick it like a guitar, he said, but play it high on the neck where the slapped chords can sing out. And, like his hero Danny Barker, Venet likes to add color to his chords by playing 6ths and 9ths and other variations on the usual banjo choices.Buzzkill Bounces BackInspired by hearing and watching Seva Venet play that morning, Charlie came home from the New Orleans Road Scholar outing eager to bring Buzzkill out of the retirement, especially on The Flood's old hokum tunes like this week's podcast selection, “Tear It Down.”As noted earlier in Flood Watch, a lot of the hokum tunes that The Flood has always loved were born far to the south of us, in place like Memphis and New Orleans. So it's always a treat to find a song that grew a little closer to home. This tune traces back to a youngster named Bob Coleman — Kid Cole, they called him — from the west side of Cincinnati. It was 98 years ago this very month that Bob recorded it in Chicago. More Hokum? Finally, if more hokum music is what you need to make your Flood Friday complete, remember we've got a whole channel waiting for you on the free Radio Floodango music steaming service.Just drop in and click the “Hokum” button or, better yet, take the express route by clicking this link to jump to it directly. Vi fortæller hele tiden historier om os selv.At vi er for meget. For lidt.

Ask any serious diner in New York about who built the city's Italian restaurant culture, and Michael White's name comes up fast. Marea. Ai Fiori. Alto. A James Beard Award. Multiple Michelin stars. Then silence. White left New York during the COVID-19 pandemic, regrouped, and returned with Santi, a sleek Midtown restaurant serving exceptional hand-crafted pasta and crudos in the space where Alto once stood. In this episode, we talk about his Wisconsin roots, studying Italian cuisine for nearly three decades, and what a real second act looks like. Also on the show, we have a great conversation with Eric Bedroussian. He's a cofounder of the terrific Los Angeles izakaya Budonoki and we talk his time working in the Houston's organization, and about what it takes to build a buzzy, sustainable restaurant group in the modern era. What does it really take to go from engineer to CEO?In this Tech Trek Brief, Michael White, Co founder and CEO of Multiply, shares a few of the ideas that matter most from a broader conversation on founder growth, leadership, and the shift from building things to building a company. What stood out most is that this is not really a story about title progression. It is a story about learning to operate with more uncertainty, taking on bigger challenges before you feel ready, and realizing that leadership at the highest level starts to look a lot more like influence than execution. What we get into• Why growth often starts before you feel ready• Why strong founders are pulled by a real problem• Why founder timing matters more than people think• Why leadership becomes influence, alignment, and convictionTimestamped highlights00:00 The real shift from engineer to CEO00:18 Growth starts before readiness00:56 Leadership changes when execution is no longer enough01:50 The best founders are pulled by a problem02:35 The three ideas that tie it all togetherFollow The Tech Trek for more conversations on leadership, company building, and the people shaping what comes next. Scott shares a few 2026 updates shaping the Amazon landscape... plus a key reminder that opportunity is still real, but it's shifting. He challenges the “Amazon is dead for new sellers” narrative. Michael White (a longtime SmartScout teammate) left to launch his own Amazon brand and has already crossed $1M in revenue after launching in August. This was driven by patient sourcing and a clear trend thesis. From there, Scott zooms out to the more sobering macro view behind his YouTube documentary “Death of the Amazon Seller”: fewer new sellers are entering, and incremental marketplace growth is increasingly captured by large brands, large sellers, and Chinese sellers. using creatine as the example, Scott leans into what he's most bullish on: trend-chasing done intelligently. While the overall creatine market is booming, the real edge is spotting sub-trends inside the trend (like gummies, Creapure, and women-focused positioning) that are growing faster than the broader category. He closes with a data point on Chinese sellers shifting their “country of business” (often to Hong Kong or the U.S.) and a new research tool he's excited about: ECDB, a global e-commerce database founded by a former Statista leader, aimed at mapping retail and marketplace performance worldwide. Episode Notes 00:31 - A real-world counterpoint to “Amazon is too hard now”: a SmartScout teammate launches and hits $1M+ revenue fast 01:48 - Why Scott's documentary argues Amazon is consolidating: fewer new sellers, more share captured by big players 03:00 - Why Scott is still bullish on trend-based product selection, especially in fast-moving categories 03:55 - Creatine as the case study: macro growth is strong, but sub-trends are where the outsized opportunity lives 05:00 - Practical takeaway: “find a trend inside the trend” and build positioning around the faster-growing slice 06:45 - New data insight: large Chinese sellers changing business location (often Hong Kong or U.S.) 07:50 - Why: conversion optics and rising pressure around revenue reporting and compliance 09:25 - Tool spotlight: ECDB and what global marketplace data reveals about Amazon vs. China-based giants 11:08 - Scott's outlook: Still optimistic on growth, but the game is changing Related Watch “Death of the Amazon Seller” Related Post Top 10 Chinese Sellers That Have Changed Countries Scott's Links: LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/scott-needham-a8b39813 X: @itsScottNeedham Instagram: @smartestseller YouTube: www.youtube.com/@smartestamazonseller2371 Newsletter: https://www.smartscout.com/newsletter-sign-up Blog: https://www.smartscout.com/blog
Michael White, Co founder and CEO of Multiply, joins the show to talk about the path from engineering leadership to the CEO seat, and what it really takes to build in a high trust, high complexity market. If you are thinking about founder readiness, leadership growth, or where AI creates real value in fintech, this episode gets into the parts that matter.Michael shares how early entrepreneurial instincts showed up long before Multiply, what changed as he moved from builder to company leader, and why some of the most important skills in leadership have less to do with code and more to do with communication, conviction, and influence. He also breaks down how Multiply is using AI to improve the mortgage experience without removing the human element people still need in a major financial decision. In this episode:• The mindset shift from engineer to CEO• Why leadership becomes a form of sales• How founder timing can be an advantage, not a delay• Where AI fits in the mortgage process, and where it does not• Why startups can move faster than legacy players in AI adoption Timestamped highlights00:43 What Multiply is building, and why an AI native mortgage company sees a better path to homeownership01:47 The childhood business story that hinted at an entrepreneurial future06:20 What changed in the move from engineering leadership to founder and CEO08:45 Why so much of leadership comes down to influence, alignment, and selling the vision17:19 Why mortgages are such a strong use case for AI, and why the back office is the real opportunity22:39 The startup advantage in AI, speed, focus, and freedom from legacy systems Follow the show for more conversations with founders, operators, and technology leaders building what comes next.

On this special episode of the Rodeo Labs Podcast, we sat down with Jacqueline Claudia and Michael White of the White Line Foundation to discuss how the organization has been championing key policy on the federal and state levels. Claudia is the Executive Director of the White Line, while White is the co-founder and the father of Magnus White, whose death in Boulder County in 2023 was the catalyst for the organization. In our conversation with Claudia and White, we focused on the major policy goals the White Line has been pushing at the federal and local levels that could have clear positive safety outcomes. HR 7353 is the proposed bill that the White Line has sponsored which amends existing federal regulations on Automatic Emergency Braking systems to mandate that all new vehicles have the capacity to detect vulnerable road users by September 2029. While this is a specific policy goal, it is the key culmination of a long, tragic process that began in August 2023 after a driver in Boulder County killed Magnus White. This policy would have prevented that fatal crash and has the capacity to alter the outcome of many future parallel path crashes.Additionally, the organization is advocating for a law in the Colorado state legislature, known as SB26-132, or Magnus' Law, which requires law enforcement to conduct an impairment test at every fatal or serious injury crash in the state. That state bill was introduced on Friday, February 27. That bill will be heard in the Colorado State Senate Judiciary Committee on March 9th, where the next steps of the bill will be decided. The key time crunch is getting the bill through the state senate by mid-May. If it succeeds, it could be implemented in August of this year. If you are interested in engaging with the letter-writing tool that we discussed in the podcast, you can visit it here. If you want to learn more about the White Line or stay informed about what the organization will do next, you can follow along on their Instagram, here.Host: Logan Jones-Wilkins Guests: Jacqueline Claudia and Michael WhiteEditor and producer: Logan Jones-Wilkins Hosted on Acast. Michael White joins Tim and Greville in the studio to embark on a conversation about the crazy win against Burnley and then the meek draw at Bournemouth. But this podcast is much more than that. What you'll hear is a free-flowing conversation about where Brentford is and who Brentford is, about VAR (and ways maybe to improve it), and about the squad going forward during the injury plagued latter stages of the campaign. It's always a joy to talk football, but Michael's insight and knowledge makes this an important conversation to be having right now. The story of Jesus starts under a monarch named Herod. He was called ‘King of the Jews,’ and ruled Judea from 40 to the year 4 BC. His reputation for paranoia and ruthlessness was well deserved, having executed three of his own sons, and slaughtered all the baby boys in Bethlehem following the birth of Jesus, according to the Gospel of Matthew. Today, we are joined by Michael White, lead pastor of Freedom Church (a fellow church in The Pillar Network). This standalone sermon is based on 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.1. The problem of pain (v16)…he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. 2 Corinthians 4:14The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Genesis 6:52. The purpose of pain (v17)God has cast me into the mire, and I have become like dust and ashes. I cry to you for help and you do not answer me; I stand, and you only look at me. You have turned cruel to me; with the might of your hand you persecute me. Job 30:19–21I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn't know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from my Father. John 15:15…he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” John 14:21“If, however, you are privileged enough to be taken by one of the high-ups into the magnificent electrical signal-box that lies athwart platforms 7 and 8, you will see on the longest wall a diagram of the entire track layout for five miles on either side of the station, with little glow-worm lights moving or stationary on the different tracks to show the signalmen at a glance exactly where every engine and train is. At once you will be able to look at the whole situation through the eyes of the men who control it: you will see from the diagram why it was that this train had to be signalled to a halt, and that one diverted from its normal running line, and that one parked temporarily in a siding. The why and the wherefore of all these movements becomes plain, once you can see the overall position.” - J.I. PackerEvery millisecond of your pain — from fallen nature or fallen man — every millisecond of your misery in the path of obedience is producing a peculiar glory you will get because of that suffering. - John PiperOne thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. TVF 180 – Mastering Business Analysis In this engaging conversation on the Visibility Factor podcast, host Susan M Barber interviews Dr. Michael White, known as the BA Doc, who shares insights into the world of business analysis. He is the founder of The Business Analysis Doctor, a global and award-winning business analysis training provider specializing in IIBA certifications and practical business analysis. He has over a decade of experience in business analysis, project management, and training. Michael has driven innovation at some of the top financial institutions in the U.S. He currently holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), the CBAP, AAC, CBDA, CPOA, and CSSGB. Michael is also a public speaker, content creator, and the President of the IIBA Southeast Michigan Chapter. Takeaways Business analysis is about defining and understanding business problems. Effective communication is crucial for business analysts. Understanding organizational goals is key for business analysts. Transitioning from technical roles to business analysis is possible with the right mindset. The hardest part of being a business analyst can be managing expectations in new organizations. AI can enhance the effectiveness of business analysts if used correctly. Experience is often more valuable than certification in business analysis. IIBA plays a significant role in promoting the business analyst profession. New business analysts should focus on understanding processes and asking the right questions. Making your boss's job easier can elevate your career. Book recommended by Michael: Asking the Right Questions by M. Neil Browne and Stuart M. Lance, George, Sir Bradley Wiggins, and Spencer Martin (aka “The Professor”) break down Jonathan Milan's sprint victory—his second stage win of the 2025 Tour de France—which further solidifies his lead in the Points Classification. They discuss how Milan's Lidl–Trek team expertly controlled the stage, thanks in large part to the strength of Quinn Simmons, and how they navigated the dangers of a high-speed bunch sprint in the rain. The crew also welcomes Michael White from The White Line to talk about the legislation the organization is currently working on to make roads safer for cyclists across the country. Before signing off, they preview tomorrow's brutal Queen Stage in the mountains and take a few listener questions. Roka: THEMOVE listeners get 20% off. By Sarah Bird, who is a professional business writer and editor with more than 30 years of experience working with large corporate organisations. As we enter the era of automation and artificial intelligence (AI), business leaders should encourage employees to make human stories their differentiator. When I spoke with Bobby Kerr recently on his "Down to Business" podcast about midlife career transformation, his parting comment was: "Well I'll be 65 this year and hopefully there's some hope for me in the employment market!" With his ample helping of Irish charm and interview skills, I can't imagine Bobby being out of work any time soon. But there are plenty of other people who have found themselves unemployed - myself included. After 30 years of consistent freelance work as a business writer with a global management consultancy, I was "let go" in favour of AI software. An indication of who's winning in the "man versus machine" debate or an opportunity to change our career narrative? From neural networks to narratives Recent research supports the idea that midlifers may be struggling more than most. The World Health Organization has acknowledged that every second person in the world is believed to hold ageist attitudes. While nearly one in five over 55s (19%) responded to another study that they did not feel confident enough in their current skillset to find new employment or pivot their career if they were to lose their current job, compared with one in 10 (8%) of under 55s. Even the national press notes bias for those seeking work in their 50s and 60s, made worse by automated application tracking systems and algorithms. As one candidate summed up: "After six months of tumbleweed, it got to the point that I had to stop job-hunting for the sake of my mental health. I felt completely invisible". Fears and concerns are often fuelled by the positioning of technology and its influence on the workforce. In 2023, an MIT Technology Review article reported an interview between the UK prime minister at the time, Rishi Sunak, and Elon Musk where the latter declared there will come a time when "no job is needed," thanks to an AI "magic genie that can do everything you want". Embrace multi-storied lives But it's easy to hear only one side of the story. As we learn more about the brain, we recognise that firing neurons repeatedly creates pathways in the brain - and can mean negative stories stick. Yet we all have access to neuroplasticity; that is, our brain's ability to rewire itself. Studies among midlifers show it's still possible to develop new neural pathways even later in life by undertaking such tasks as learning a new language or a musical instrument. Adapting our mindsets has become even more critical in recent years. Since the pandemic, our personal and professional lives have blended in an unprecedented way, opening the door to some of the techniques that separated those lives in the past. One such technique is Narrative Practice. The birthchild of therapists Michael White and David Epston, Narrative Practice helps people to express deep seated concerns or challenges and uses powerful storytelling tools to liberate those who feel stuck with thoughts or behaviours that are questionable, inaccurate or simply unhelpful. Based on the idea that we are all experts in our own lives, Narrative Practice is a respectful, non-blaming approach that focuses on empowering the individual - and can be adapted to enhance the workforce of the future. Applying these tools could benefit leaders and innovate the retention and engagement of the workforce by externalising problems to diffuse challenging situations, reframing personal narratives to encourage authenticity and reinventing the narrative across the business to spur collaboration. Three steps to career storytelling No matter what our age, we're all work-in-progress. Reframing thoughts and attitudes is not easy but accepting that resilience is a lifelong project and making storytelling part...
