We follow two actors, desperate to get the role of a lifetime in a world where not only is superhero fatigue a real thing, but it's also legally controlled; especially on film sets. He passed peacefully on February 11, 2026, with his wife, Kimberly, and their six children by his side. Van Der Beek's breakout role on Dawson's Creek helped shape a generation of teen storytelling on television, and the show's honest exploration of adolescence made him a familiar presence to millions of viewers. After the series ran from 1998 to 2003, he continued working across television and film in a wide range of roles, from the high school football drama Varsity Blues to camera-savvy self-parody on Don't Trust the B–– in Apartment 23 and crime procedurals like CSI: Cyber. His candid sharing of his cancer journey in recent years also raised awareness of early-onset colorectal cancer. Friends, fans, and colleagues paid tribute to his warmth, humor, and impact both on and off screen. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly, and their six children, whose privacy the family has asked the public to respect during this time of mourning. We celebrate James's work, his openness, and the joy his performances brought to so many. I need to start this episode by saying something that doesn't come easily for me: I was wrong. I underestimated Wonder Man. I almost skipped it entirely — not because of the cast, not because of the concept, but because of the way Marvel released it. And that nearly cost me one of the most emotionally grounded, character-driven stories the MCU has ever put on Disney+. This is not a recap episode. This is a reflection and appreciation piece. In this episode of Marvel Maniac, I break down why Wonder Man works so powerfully — from Simon Williams' struggle with control, identity, and ambition, to Trevor Slattery's quietly devastating redemption arc, to the show's sharp commentary on art, ego, and being seen. We talk about why the Doorman episode reframes the entire series, why the callback episode is one of Marvel TV's best hours, and how the finale proves Marvel can still deliver something restrained, human, and special when it wants to. Wonder Man isn't loud. It isn't flashy. It doesn't beg you to care. It earns it. And by the end, it reminded me exactly why I fell in love with Marvel storytelling in the first place.

In the grand scheme, its a smart choice. Wonder Man as a character has a very muddled history much like DC's Hawkman. So whats the best way to present the character in a streamlined way? Have the show structured around Simon Williams trying to make it in Hollywood while he's also trying to figure himself out. Pair him up with Trevor Slattery and you got a solid show that does a really good job of being self contained yet lowkey progressing certain aspects of the MCU. Definitely a must watch.
