Rund zehn Prozent des Datenbestands von Statista lagen außerhalb der Paywall - genug, um als Trainingsmasse zu dienen.Das gefällt Berg nicht, aber Jammern ist nicht sein Stil. Stattdessen setzt er Statista auf Innovation. "Wir bauen gerade Produkte und Partnerschaften für Perplexity, Copilot und andere Plattformen", sagt er.Das Ziel: Er möchte Statista-Daten direkt in die Tools integrieren, die Menschen im Arbeitsalltag nutzen - ohne Medienbruch, ohne Umweg über statista.com. "Wir sind Mittel zum Zweck und müssen Informationen so nahtlos und friktionslos wie möglich an den Kunden bringen", sagt Berg.Das zahlt sich aus. Selbst ein Großkunde, der Statista zwischenzeitlich kündigte, weil ChatGPT "doch alles könne", kam nach drei Monaten zurück - "zum fast doppelten Preis".Die Einsicht? Mittlerweile ist auch bei Google die Werbung aufdringlich und die Trefferliste unbrauchbar, Facebook fördert eher hohen Blutdruck und bei den Streaming-Anbietern gibt es komplizierte Tarife und Werbung obendrauf. Und selbst bei Hardware oder lokal installierter Software ist man "dank" Accountzwang statt Käufer und Eigentümer nur noch Nutzer oder Abonnent. Plötzlich gibt es unsinnige Zusatzfunktionen und ohne Premium-Abo kommt man teils nicht mehr an die eigenen Daten heran. Diese Verschlechterung von einst brauchbaren Produkten wird als Enshittification bezeichnet. Die hat ganz unterschiedliche Ursachen, manches ist die Nebenwirkungen von unbedachten Entscheidungen oder Prioritäten, anderes geschieht in voller Absicht, um mehr Gewinn abzuschöpfen.
