On this Freedom Friday, we discussed the urgency of living for the Lord today because He will return, and the day of His return is unknown. We turned to the parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25:1-13, which illustrates His return and how those who are ready will go with Him while those who are not will remain where they stand. Are you living for the Lord today and prepared for His return? We were also joined by our special guest, Simon Guillebaud, for the conversation. Simon was called to Burundi in 1998 and has been there since. He is now the Founder and International Director of Great Lakes Outreach. This organization partners with other Christian organizations to share the gospel and help build the spiritual and physical development of the people of Burundi. Simon has also authored several books, including his bestseller, “Choose Life-365 Readings for Radical Disciples.” He also hosts the podcast, “Inspired.” You can hear the highlights of today’s program on Karl and Crew Showcast.Donate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Here's our friend Simon sharing from Luke 7:36-50 as we continued our series on The Gift. Grace is something that we often find difficult to explain. The dictionary defines it as an 'unmerited gift'. But once experienced, it changes us. That's because Jesus is God's undeserved gift to us and He transforms us into His likeness.

Welcome to Milestone Moments: Short extracts from my podcast interviews to inspire, encourage and equip you on your personal path to success. In 2015, during the failed coup in Burundi, Simon Guillebaud, founder of an NGO called Great Lakes Outreach faced a milestone moment: Would he stay, or would he take his family and flee to safety as others were doing? Surrounded by gunfire and burning roadblocks he decided to stay. He then gathered his leaders in a room, and together they decided to use their influence to advocate for peace and non-violence. What made it possible? Listen to this episode to find out!Simon had a very clear call to Burundi in 1999, when it was regarded as the most dangerous country on earth. Having unexpectedly survived 7 years of genocide and civil war, he set up GLO with the vision to transform Burundi and beyond through holistic mission, working with gifted local leaders of integrity.Although Simon returned from Burundi with his family in 2018, leaving Great Lakes Outreach in the hands of capable local leaders, he is still very much involved in supporting their work with some of the poorest and hungriest people in the world. You can find out more about it at greatlakesoutreach.org. He continues to work as a Christian author speaker, and podcaster. So if that is your thing, I can totally recommend his podcast called “Inspired” where he interviews men and women of faith from all walks of life about their stories of adventure and risk-taking for God. So check that out via Apple Podcasts, Spotify or the link here: https://www.simonguillebaud.com/inspired-podcast/ If you enjoyed listening to this podcast, please hit subscribe to hear more encouraging stories of of how people have navigated their path to true success. As Simon said it's all too easy to get to a point in life where we "Have everything to live with but nothing to live for." It takes courage to step back and ask yourself what you really want to live for, and that's another part of life where surrounding yourself with the people who will support you on your journey makes a huge difference. In my next podcast episode on Your Path to Success, I am going to share more about my own journey of defining and redefining success and how I help other people do that too, through my coaching programmes. If you're interested in find more about coaching then check out my website: yourpathtosuccess.ch or book an appointment here: https://yourpathtosuccess.ch/book-appointment/

God wants us to get angry. Things aren't as they should be. But righteous anger is costly. It costs your tears, your talent, and your time. So come along, ready to cry, get angry, pick a fight, and change some small but significant part of the world. Simon Guillebaud has lived in Burundi since his early twenties. He takes unimaginable risks so much so that he didn't expect to live to the age of 30. He sees miraculous results time and again as he works tirelessly for the salvation, peace and prosperity of the country he loves and daily gives his life for.

Guest Preacher: Simon Guillebaud Bible Study Don't just take our word for it . . . take His! We would encourage you to spend time examining the following Scriptures that shaped this sermon: Revelation 3:14-22 Sermon Outline A sobering summation v15-18 A shocking expulsion v16 A stunning invitation v20-21 Sermon Application What do you think about God? How much do you want of God? How close to God do you want to be? How would you describe the spiritual temperature of your pursuit of Jesus? Laodicea and Charleston had some similarities, can you remember what they are? How awake are you to the challenges – indeed what are the challenges – that would stop you from being ‘hot' and ‘zealous' (same Greek word in the passage) for God? The preacher talked about the ‘curse of comfort'. What did he mean by that? Can you relate in any way to Eugene Peterson (famous for translating ‘The Message' version of the Bible)'s comments on the flock he was pastoring? He wrote: “I was living in classic suburbia, and not liking it very much. The people who gathered to worship God under my leadership were rootless and cultureless. They were marginally Christian. They didn't read books. They didn't discuss ideas. All spirit seemed to have leaked out of their lives and been replaced by a garage-sale clutter of clichés and stereotypes, securities and fashions. Dostoevsky's sentence hit the target: the ‘people seem to be watered down… darting and rushing about before us every day, but in a sort of diluted state'. No hard ideas to push against. No fiery spirit to excite. Soggy suburbia... I had no idea that an entire society could be shaped by the images of advertising. I had lived, it seems, a sheltered life. The experiments of Pavlov accounted for the condition of these people far better than anything in the four Gospels. They were conditioned to respond to the stimulus of a sale price, quite apart from need, as effectively as Pavlov's dogs were trained to salivate at the bells' signal, quite apart from hunger. These were the people for whom I was praying and for whom I was writing, these spirits who had taken early retirement, whose minds had been checked at the door. Suburbia-lobotomised spirituality.”

'If you haven't found something worth dying for, you haven't found something worth living for.' Much like today the early church experienced opposition to the gospel. In Acts 7 we hear about Stephen, a martyr who died because he was unashamed of declaring the goodness and promises of God. For many of us there is not an immediate threat of death if we share the gospel with those around us. But perhaps there is a threat to our pride, our reputation, our image. In those moments we ask ourselves 'is it worth it?'. For many of us the answer is yes, because we have not found something, but someone worth dying for.

Happy new year! We are excited to be back with season 3 of Rooted. This term, we're following our sermon series entitled "Follow me", looking at the character and qualities of leadership that we discover in the life and ministry of Jesus. We are very excited to kick off the podcast with a guest, Simon Guillebaud, who preached on Sunday 12th January. He offered to spend an evening talking with our young adults, and we decided it was so good that we'd make the recording available to you. Enjoy!
As Christ laid his life down as a living sacrifice, he calls us to do the same. Servant leadership is costly but beautiful. The question we must ask ourselves is, are we really following Him or are we expecting Him to follow us on our terms and at our convenience?
In this week's show Megan Cornwell sits down with veteran missionary Simon Guillebaud to hear about the miraculous ways God has protected him and his family during decades of missionary work in what was once the most dangerous nation on earth. Guillebaud describes how God brought 164,000 people to faith through his ministry and why he believes Christians in the UK can be blind to the spiritual war going on around them. He shares extraordinary conversion stories as well as a personal insight into how God called him into long-term evangelistic ministry. I was fortunate enough to be able to interview today's guest, Simon Guillebaud, back in October 2018 about his take on leadership and success after 20 years working in Burundi as a social entrepreneur. Simon knows what it's like to take personal risk for the sake of a greater cause. He left a comfortable life in the UK to go to Burundi in 1999 when it was considered one of the most dangerous places on the planet. In 2003 he founded an NGO called Great Lakes Outreach (GLO) with the vision to transform Burundi, one of the poorest and hungriest nations in the world, by working with gifted local leaders of integrity. In Burundi Simon is known for founding orphanages, schools and the best hotel in Bujumbura. But over and above that he is known as a leader of faith and integrity who walks his talk. When I asked Simon about his legacy in Burundi, he said that his legacy is that he doesn’t need to be there any more. In 2019 he returned to the UK with his family leaving the GLO work in Burundi in the capable hands of local leaders. GLO continues to have a huge impact helping well over 100,000 of the neediest people every year in sustainable ways. In this interview Simon talks about leadership, in particular the importance of relationships, staying true to your values and moving from success to significance.

10am Morning Service Sunday 15th September 2019 Luke 7:36-50 This sermon is part of our year long series in the Gospel of Luke. We hope on this journey through Luke's Gospel we will come to know Jesus more clearly, love Him more dearly and follow Him more nearly.

This episode is a presentation by Simon Guillebaud that he made at the Menlo Park chapter of New Canaan Society at our last meeting. Simon is an english man who spent the last 20 years in Burundi. He prayed a dangerous prayer and told God he would go anywhere and do anything for him. He challenged us to be radical disciples for Jesus, to live by faith not by fear. It was such a beautiful message, that I needed to hear and we all need to hear. We may call it radical discipleship, but Jesus calls in just plain old discipleship. Praise God we are not suffering the horrific challenges a nation like Burundi has gone through in the last decades, but our region needs true disciples of Jesus just as much. I think you will be blessed and challenged by this message as much as I was. It is a must listen. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/miracles-transformation/message

This month our occasional series on 'the five marks of mission' continues with the longest of the marks: "To transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation". Violence of every kind has been experienced far too often in too many places lately, and not least in Burundi, where mission associate Simon Guillebaud is based with his organisation Great Lakes Outreach. We also meet mission partners in India who are working with those trapped at the bottom by society's unjust structures - including refugee women and people with leprosy. And we hear from mission partner Ed Brice about his work with the Asociana team in northern Argentina, who stand alongside and fight for the rights of indigenous peoples there.
