The Gospel Call to Discipleship Introduction: Ezekiel 36:22–32 Twice in this text (22 & 32) God said that what he was about to do was not for “your sake.” Lest we think God was only fed up with Israel, the fulfillment of the prophecies in this text have to do with us. In the beginning, […] The post The Gospel Call to Discipleship appeared first on Woodland Hills Church of Christ.
Sometimes faith can almost feel like magic where we confuse what is real, active faith in Christ and magical solutions to problems. In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul begins to ask similar questions of the church community in Corinth. But then he warns them of the need to stay faithful. It's not good enough to just know Jesus as a past entity. God wants to be known, experienced, and relied upon in our daily lives.
Teaching on John 6:35-40
If you look out at the world today, you might notice a growing trend in global politics: Again and again, voters are putting into power leaders that favor nationalistic or isolationist rhetoric and policies. Issues that require global cooperation — and sacrifice — like the climate crisis, nonproliferation of nuclear arms and the care of refugees are a hard sell to a citizenry increasingly concerned with economic and security problems affecting their own families and communities. As a result, nations all over the world turn ever inward and more distrustful of individuals and organizations beyond their borders. We see this dynamic play out again and again in conversations around immigration, and we've hosted more than a few such conversations on this podcast. But another realm of international politics that is affected by this change in global thinking is the place and influence of international and transnational organizations on the global scale. It's tempting to shrug and wonder why you should care. Today's guest, Dr. Michael Manulak, is here with an answer — and a challenge. The biggest issues we face today require global cooperation. That's not just a political reality; it's one grounded in our Catholic tradition. As Michael will discuss, the tenets of Catholic social teaching and the spirituality of St. Ignatius demand that we prayerfully contemplate the complex reality of our time and respond as best we're able. That means looking at our individual gifts and vocations as part of something bigger than ourselves. Dr. Manulak is an associate professor of international affairs, anchoring the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs' Diplomacy and Foreign Policy cluster in Ottawa. His research focuses on international organizations, multilateral diplomacy, Canadian foreign policy, global environmental politics and Non-Proliferation. An alumnus of the Government of Canada's Recruitment of Policy Leaders program, he served mainly within the Department of National Defense. In government, he represented Canada in international proliferation security negotiations, supported the national security review of foreign investments, and composed Cabinet documents within National Defense's Cabinet Liaison bureau. And coolest of all, the day before this conversation was recorded, he was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal at the Senate of Canada. The Medal recognizes those that have made a significant contribution to Canadian society. This is a timely and fascinating conversation. Missions is a form of worship as an overflow of our delight in God. As we worship Him and seek our own relationship with God, we also invite others to know and experience God for themselves. When all the nations of the world worship God, the Gospel will be fulfilled.

Luke 14:15-24 | JD Summers The gospel call goes out to all, inviting us to come to the great feast at God's table. However, it is only those who respond to Christ's message who will enter the kingdom, and enjoy the eternal blessing of this feast. In God's grace, he seeks to fill his house not with the proud and self-righteous, but with the humble, needy, and most unlikely of guests. Those who know this generous Master are to rejoice in his benevolence, and invite all who will listen to come in.
As we finish Paul's opening chapter to the Thessalonican church, we see a glimpse into the report he received from Timothy. The church is flourishing- not because of the amount of time they had with Paul, nor because of their lengthy doctrinal conversations. Their health is due to the sanctification of the Holy Spirit and their obedience to the Gospel Call. We hope this message blesses you in the Lord. Originally April 21st, 2024. Hank Atchison. Church Life “The Gospel Call” Acts 2:37-41 The Conviction (v. 37) Heb. 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.. The Change (vv. 38-40) Repent (Lu. 18:11-14) Ro. 6:3-4 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. Acts 16:31-33 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. Jo. 14:16-17a, 26 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper,[f] to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth,.. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. The Consequence (v. 41) Luke's use of a specific number suggests records were kept of conversions and baptisms – numbers are given 12 more x btwn here and ch. 19 (membership roll). Pastors and church leaders need to know who they're responsible for in their ministry.

Yesterday morning, our journey through the Book of Acts continued in chapters 15 & 16. As the apostles continue to spread the gospel, disagreement separates Paul and Barnabas. Instead of halting the mission, they each seek to make Christ Jesus known. Regardless of our attitudes or differences, Christ should remain primary. We hope this message blesses you in the Lord. Historical Theology - The Gospel Call
Sometimes evangelicals are accused of making such a big deal of full-time Christian work that it sends an implicit (or even explicit) signal that people who don't go into full-time ministry are second class. At other times, we panic about the ‘minister drought' and bemoan the fact that no-one is being challenged to go into full-time ministry any more.Is it possible to avoid these problems? What's the right way to challenge people to consider full-time Christian work without devaluing those who don't pursue that path?A conversation with Tony Payne and Phillip Jensen.Links:Ray Galea's new book on this very topic is now available to pre-order. History is divided into two categories of people…those who will experience the wrath of God, and those who will be saved from it. Do you know which one you are?
In this sermon, Pastor Aaron breaks the gospel call down into three main divisions - God's call, the preacher's call, and the hearer's call.
