In this episode we explore some of the emotional and psychological life of international governance. Professor Daniel Laqua, Professor Dan Gorman and Dr. Anne-Isabelle Richard talk about GLO, a transatlantic research project examining how civil society, activists, and NGOs have campaigned to build, shape, reform or put an end to international organizations from the early 20th century to the early 2000s. They discuss findings from the project about emotional experiences such as love, hate, trust, and sense of belonging in this context, and consider the way people relate to and through international institutions through psychodynamic concepts of projection and transference. Listen to examples from the League of Nations, United Nations Associations, Jubilee 2000, and the Council of Europe. Learn about the archival research methods, and what grassroots diplomacy suggests about the possibilities of change. Resources: Ask a Librarian! Ask an Archivist! Shame and anxiety have a way of making us feel like we need to hide—but you're not alone, and healing is possible. In this conversation, author, actress, and spoken word artist, Blair Linne shares encouragement from Scripture and her own journey to remind us that our struggles don't define us and that God meets us with compassion, not condemnation. What if thinking about death wasn't morbid—but liberating? In this conversation, Elena Brower (author of "Hold Nothing") and I get real about turning 40, 50, and beyond. We talk about why ego dissolution might be the greatest gift of aging, how meditation is actually an act of service to others, and why certainty is killing your relationships. Elena shares why she's ready to let all her accomplishments dissolve, the difference between prayer and meditation (spoiler: maybe there isn't one), and a simple exhale practice that serves humanity. This isn't your typical "graceful aging" conversation. It's about ruthlessly re-prioritizing, slowing down radically, and preparing for death in the most relaxed way possible. In this solo episode, Dani unpacks the messy and supremely human dynamics of conflict, repair, and responsibility, beginning with a real-life story about her landlord's oopsie, and the lingering energetic impact of the apology she has yet to receive. From there, she deconstructs a batch of deleterious political and cultural language, including the ubiquitious “RESIST” posters emblazoning various Santa Fe neighborhoods, and the way conflict-based rhetoric keeps the collective stuck in fight mode. She examines how words like “fight” and “resist” program our nervous systems, shape our perception, and manufacture division, and reads from Word Up and The Language of Betterarchy to illuminate how we can orient toward clarity, coherence, and genuine solutions instead of fueling the very problems we claim to oppose. And this is where it almost feels like I'm taking a shower for my mind– getting rid of all the doubt, the fear, the frustration, the angst, the anxiety, the anger… And when I finally took it on, it actually made a huge difference in who I am and how I show up, particularly in my parenting, but also in every other realm.” “Those situations are really important to keep close. Those are the ones that are going to help us really practice and learn how to die, and that's kind of the next step, the next practice, living as fully with as much love and fun as we can, as much care and consideration as we can, and dying well.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Use code DRMARIZA and get 15% off on your Silverbiotics order https://silverbiotics.com/discount/drmariza Order my new book: The Perimenopause Revolution https://peri-revolution.com/ Order Elena's Book: Hold Nothing https://elenabrower.com/holdnothing Dr. Mariza's Ultimate Morning Self-Care Guide & Sign up for her FREE Virtual Workshop: The Altar of Your Heart Elena Brower's Website Elena on Substack Elena on Instagram Elena's Podcast: PRACTICE YOU RELATED EPISODES 692: Why Emotional Healing is Hormone Healing-The New Path to Midlife Empowerment with Ashley Turner 690: The Perimenopause Revolution: Why midlife isn't the end — it's the beginning of your most energized, powerful, and vibrant self 685: End Emotional Outsourcing: Break Free from Codependency, Perfectionism & People-Pleasing with Beatriz Albina #629: Unlocking Emotional Resilience with Awareness, Lifestyle and Tools to Regulate Your Stress Triggers with Dr. Drew Ramsey
