These last nine verses of chapter 3 how we treat our neighbors and why we treat them that way: instructions for being neighborly (vv 27-31) and motivations for being neighborly (vv 32-35).
Fr. Mike explains sins of omission, and how these are some of the biggest deciding factors of who goes to heaven and who goes to hell: whether or not we did good works God called us to. He also reminds us that not all of the New Testament parables are universally relevant, recalling the parable of the talents and the parable of the wise and foolish maidens. Today's readings are Matthew 25-26 and Proverbs 19:21-24. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Please note: The Bible contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
Today's Topics: 1) Sins of Omission 2) The price of clarity is the risk of insult 3) 14th Sunday After Pentecost, Epistle (Gal. 5.16-24); Gospel (Matt. 6.24-33) 4) You cannot serve God and Mammon
Today's Topics: 1, 2, 3, 4) Gospel - Mk 10:28-31 - Peter began to say to Jesus, "We have given up everything and followed You." Jesus said, "Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for My sake and for the sake of the Gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come. But many that are first will be last, and the last will be first."
Wes & Erin continue their discussion of "On the Waterfront."
Terry Malloy and his fellow longshoremen on the New York docks are witnesses to union corruption under labor boss Johnny Friendly, but won't testify against him because of his violent intimidation tactics, which ensure that union members remain “D and D”—that is, deaf and dumb—to any illegal activity. When Terry's collaboration with Friendly results in the death of his friend Joey Doyle, and when Terry subsequently falls in love with Joey's sister, Edie, he's forced to reckon with this D and D policy, as well as his own passivity, guilt, and naivete. Wes & Erin discuss Elia Kazan's 1954 film On the Waterfront, which might be said to dramatize the so-called “sin of omission” while asserting that its opposite, truth-telling, can be a radical and perhaps even a strangely physical form of heroism.
Nathan shares an experience he had that relates to the future of this nation. Sins of omission have allowed destruction to be allowed in the United States.

In the 1st of three episodes, Rick and Jeremy Griffin talk about how Christians build belief systems on things that didn't happen in scripture, or deciding something is wrong because it wasn't in the bible. We give several examples on how judgments are made because of omissions. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/realtimewithrickfry/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/realtimewithrickfry/support
After a brief chat about Thanksgiving, AJ and Brandon dive into the topic of sins of omission. What are they? Why do they matter? How do we avoid them and avoid being scrupulous about them?

Tonight we continue studying the second part of the sixth petition of the Lord's Prayer guided by Thomas Watson with His first three uses of previous studies- Take heed of sins of omission, secret sins, and besetting -pet- sins. The most attention was given to -besetting sins- warning that they are -1- most cherished as the master of all other sins and most tended and waited upon- -2- the darling sins one loves not to be reproved for- -3- those sins which have most power over a man, and most easily lead him captive as the beloved of his soul- -4- the darling sins which men use arguments to defend- -5- Those beloved sins which most trouble a man, and fly in his face in an hour of sickness and distress- -6- Those darling sins which a man is most unwilling to part with. Many excerpts were shared near the end related to -besetting sins- from Dr. Derek Thomas's chapter, -The World, the Flesh, and the Devil,- from Our Ancient Foe- Satan's History, Activity, and Ultimate Demise published by the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals and P-R Publishing.
A new MP3 sermon from Maidenbower Baptist Church is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Sins of Omission (sermon 838) Subtitle: From the heart of Spurgeon Speaker: C. H. Spurgeon Broadcaster: Maidenbower Baptist Church Event: Podcast Date: 4/14/2023 Bible: Jeremiah 11:8 Length: 31 min.
This interesting sermon approaches the matter of human sin from an atypical angle- that of our sins of omission -sins of commission are things we do which God commands us not to do, while sins of omission are our failure to do those things which we are commanded or obliged to do-. Point by point, Spurgeon peels back layer after layer. He begins with how common they are, rooted in our falling short of the requirement to love God with all our hearts and our fellow men as ourselves. Next he digs down to the causes of these things, showing how we evade or excuse ourselves. Then he presses home the sinfulness of these sins, that they are not to be in any way diminished. Finally, he wants us to understand how sins of omission are damning, not only in themselves, but because they involve the neglect of the very remedy for all our sins which God has provided in Christ. When the gap between the church and the world is growing wider and more distinct, and with the risk of self-satisfaction growing in that space, it is good for God's people to be humbled by the awareness that-even in the proper pursuit of our duties and obediences-there is something lacking in our best efforts which leaves us in constant dependence upon the mercies of God Christ Jesus.

Having wealth is not sinful, but neglecting the poor is. We are blessed in order to bless. Do you blame God for the problems in the world, or are you working for a solution? This is a challenge for all of us.

In today's episode, we learn what sins of omission are, and then we go into chapter 5 and quickly see several rebukes of rich men, including a description of their evil deeds. James accuses these rich men of fraud, and of keeping back the hard-earned money of the laborers they had hired. He says they live in pleasure while slaughtering these poor laborers by refusing to give them their wages. The cries of these men have now entered the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, which implies judgment will come upon them. In our Q&A segment, we answer a question that was sent in: What did Jesus mean in John 21 when He asked the disciples if they had any meat?We believe you will be surprised at our answer, and you might as well get started now, for there are many things to take away from this study!

Question about whether continuous sins of omission indicate that a person is actually unrepentant and not truly regenerate. Do continuous sins of omission mean you're actually unrepentant and your heart is not truly regenerate?

We see in the bible that God's people rejected Him as their king and demanded a human king like the surrounding nations. God granted the request of His people, giving them over to their disobedience. Let us learn from God's people the mistakes in putting our hope in a man, and let us focus on the true king we need, King Jesus.
