Obeying the Commandments Lead to Complete Joy - Fr. Daniel Klimek | 5/7/26

The readings for this homily: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/050726.cfmFather Daniel Klimek, PhD, explains that the Council of Jerusalem established that faith in Christ, not painstaking adherence to the Mosaic Law, is the path to salvation, while clarifying that moral works remain essential as a fruit of that living faith. Father Daniel contrasts the secular view of God's commandments as unnecessarily restrictive chains with the biblical reality that obeying Christ is an act of love that brings complete joy and human flourishing. By remaining in this relationship of love, believers discover that true freedom is found, not by ignoring the law, but in honoring and obeying the Father who desires their happiness.⭐️ Support our Ministries: https://www.thedivinemercy.org/donate?source=pod✝️ Explore Divine Mercy on Divine Mercy Plus! https://divinemercyplus.org/?source=pod⛪️ Plan Your Visit to the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy!https://www.shrineofdivinemercy.org/?source=podFollow Us on Social Media!

He encourages believers to trust in God's divine providence, noting that even failures and struggles can be transformed into victories with grace. The readings for this homily: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/050626.cfmFather Anthony Gramlich, MIC, uses the metaphor of a vineyard to explain that the Father is the Grower, Jesus is the true Vine, and the Holy Spirit is the invisible Sap that enables believers to bear fruit. Father Anthony teaches that, just as grapes must be crushed to produce wine, Christians must embrace the “crushing” of crosses and trials, remaining united to Christ and thereby producing spiritual wine for the Kingdom of God. By staying connected to life in the Spirit and thereby healthy, flourishing members of the Mystical Body of Christ through prayer, spiritual reading, the Sacraments, works of mercy, and Eucharistic Adoration, we can rejoice even in the midst of our sufferings and trust that God is working through our pains to bring forth new life.⭐️ Support our Ministries: https://www.thedivinemercy.org/donate?source=pod✝️ Explore Divine Mercy on Divine Mercy Plus! https://divinemercyplus.org/?source=pod⛪️ Plan Your Visit to the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy!https://www.shrineofdivinemercy.org/?source=podFollow Us on Social Media!

The readings for this homily: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/050226.cfmFather Anthony Gramlich, MIC, compares heresy to a cancer that spreads through pride, using the story of the early heretic Arius, who denied the divinity of Jesus Christ, to illustrate why the Church must define doctrine to protect the faithful from error. He urges believers to adopt the humility of St. Athanasius, the great champion of orthodoxy against the Arian heresy, choosing to say “I believe” in the Creed even when full understanding is not yet reached. Father Mark contrasts this with contradictory, incoherent “square circle” ideas about God, urging believers to conform their minds to the intelligible truth of Christ and to what this reveals about the logical order of the universe in order to fully trust reason and flourish in life. He illustrates that the Eucharist is an extension of the Incarnation and the greatest miracle of God, which means that we should prioritize physical presence in the Lord's house when possible over the convenience of online streams or spiritual communion. The readings for this homily: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/041326.cfmIn the midst of the 50-day Easter season, Marian Superior General Fr. Joe Roesch, MIC, invites us to reflect on the profound gift of the Holy Spirit and our society's urgent need for a spiritual renewal. Drawing from the Acts of the Apostles, he reminds us that the early Church faced persecution just as Jesus did. After Sts. Peter and John were released, the community prayed, not for safety, but for boldness. Their prayer was answered with a physical shaking of the place where they were praying, a spiritual earthquake that signaled a fresh outpouring of divine power.Father Joe drew from the Divine Mercy Sunday homily of the Most Rev. David L. Ricken, bishop of the diocese of Green Bay, who celebrated the Mass at the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy yesterday, to connect this ancient event to our modern reality, describing the rising tide of secularism as a tsunami threatening the faith. In response, we do not need a wall of defense, but a counter-tsunami of mercy. Just as an earthquake under the ocean creates a massive wave, a spiritual earthquake in our hearts can unleash an overwhelming flood of God's grace. We must ask the Holy Spirit to renew the face of the earth, strengthening us to proclaim the Resurrection despite opposition.Father Joe  also explored the encounter between Jesus and Nicodemus. Though Nicodemus came to meet Jesus at night, afraid of the light of day and the scrutiny of his contemporaries, he still recognized Jesus as a teacher from God. Father Joe explains that Jesus came to repair the rupture caused by original sin, restoring the harmony between God and humanity that Adam and Eve had lost. Through the Sacrament of Baptism, we are born from above, receiving a second, spiritual birth. This new covenant is maintained through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which Fr. Joe highlights as a powerful means of healing. He recounted the long lines of penitents awaiting their turn to go to Confession at Eden Hill during Divine Mercy Sunday, witnessing to the tangible joy of God as relationships are restored. ★ Support this podcast ★

Bishop Daniel Turley, O.S.A., is our guest on this special episode of Deacons Pod. Like Pope Leo XIV, he is a Chicago native, a member of the Midwest Augustinians, and served for decades as a missionary in Peru. In this conversation with the Paulist Deacon Affiliates, Bishop Turley shares memories of Pope Leo and speaks about the pope's gift for listening. He also provides insights into the Augustinian charism and what it might mean for the Church in the coming years. Bishop Turley was bishop of the Diocese of Chulucanas in Peru from 2000 to 2020 (and coadjutor bishop from 1996 to 2000). During his time as bishop, he faced death threats after standing in solidarity with people who were endangered by the actions of mining companies. Bishop Turley returned to Chicago in 2020 and, this year, became rector of the National Shrine of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini in the city's Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Richard Shuaibu of the Diocese of Sokoto, Nigeria, joined us at the National Shrine to share a living testimony of the Gospel we heard proclaimed—Christ's promise that “not a hair on your head will be destroyed” because eternal life is secure in Him. Introducing him, Fr. Chris reminded us that while persecution is rising across the world—especially in Nigeria—the victory of the Christian is not measured by earthly safety but by fidelity that leads to heaven.Fr. Richard's powerful witness brought this truth into sharp focus. He spoke of daily persecution: churches burned, priests martyred, families displaced, children abducted, communities attacked simply for bearing the name of Jesus. And yet—he stood before us with unshakable peace. Why? Because the enemy cannot conquer the heart that belongs to Christ. He reminded us that Christians do not fight with weapons of destruction, but with weapons of conversion: the Holy Rosary and the maternal protection of Our Lady. Even amid violence, miracles occur. Even in the jungle, faith endures. And even under threat of death, Fr. Richard proclaimed the truth: “There is no God but the Lord, and Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”Please pray for Fr. Richard, for the Church in Nigeria, and for all who suffer for the Gospel. And may his witness strengthen us to stand firm in Christ, who alone is our hope and our life.#marian #marians #marianfathers #marianhelpers #divinemercy #thedivinemercy #catholic #catholicism #romancatholic #romancatholicism #catholictiktok #frchrisalar #persecution #martyrs #nigeria #prayfornigeria #courage #faith #rosary #ourlady ★ Support this podcast ★

Praying with Mary: The Power and Mystery of the Rosary The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary . . . . . . originated in 1571 after the miraculous Christian victory at the Battle of Lepanto, when the faithful, at the Pope's request, prayed the Rosary for protection against the Ottoman Empire. This triumph was attributed to Mary's intercession, earning her the title “Help of Christians.” The Rosary is not merely as a Marian prayer, but as a prayer to Jesus through Mary . . . a contemplation of Christ's life, death, and glory, with Mary as our guide. The Homily explains three “crownings” of Jesus reflected in the Rosary: 1. The Crown of Grace – the Incarnation, God's gift of salvation. 2. The Crown of Thorns – Christ's suffering and redemptive death. 3. The Crown of Glory – Christ's triumph in heaven. Mary, too, receives her own three crowns: 1. The Crown of Excellence – her purity and virtue. 2. The Crown of Goodness – her maternal help and compassion. 3. The Crown of Love – her perfect relationship with God. Finally, those devoted to Mary receive spiritual crowns: • The Crown of Holiness, gained through imitation of Mary's virtues. • The Crown of a Peaceful Death, aided by her intercession. • The Crown of Glory in Heaven, the eternal reward of the faithful. The Rosary is presented as a spiritual weapon, a summary of the Gospel, and a path to peace and salvation through union with Jesus and Mary. May is the month of Mary. In this week's episode we visit the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception to learn about the history of the month of Mary and popular Marian devotions, such as praying the rosary. The Rosary is a Scripture-based prayer. It begins with the Apostles' Creed, which summarizes the great mysteries of the Catholic faith. The Our Father, which introduces each mystery, is from the Gospels. The first part of the Hail Mary is the angel's words announcing Christ's birth and Elizabeth's greeting to Mary. St. Pius V officially added the second part of the Hail Mary. The Mysteries of the Rosary center on the events of Christ's life. There are four sets of Mysteries: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and––added by Saint John Paul II in 2002––the Luminous. Learn more about how to pray rosary. https://www.usccb.org/how-to-pray-the-rosary May is also Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. In this week's episode we highlight a story out of the Diocese of Tulsa which reflects the diversity and richness of our faith! Fr. Samuel Perez, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Miami, Oklahoma celebrates mass every weekend in Chuukese for local Micronesian Catholics in addition to five other masses in English and Spanish. People in the pews wear brightly colored traditional clothing and hairstyles. One Micronesian family from southwest Missouri makes the almost two-hour drive to hear Scriptures, prayers and songs in Chuukese. Adding a weekly Mass in Chuukese has improved not just Mass attendance but religious education enrollment at Sacred Heart, from 30 students to 120. Baptisms are up too: Father Perez's calendar in May had 11 baptisms for members of the Micronesian community. Farming jobs attracted many of Oklahoma's Micronesian natives from the island of Chuuk in the South Pacific. For their part, the community members are grateful that Father Perez has worked to learn their language and integrate their culture into the worship experience. “It shows that he really cares,” one altar server said. Father Perez points out that he made a lot of pronunciation mistakes early on, and he's still learning. There was no textbook; he caught on by repeating words his parishioners taught him. “They were very patient with me,” he said. “My accent is thick. I don't know how much they understand me, but it looks like they're OK with it.” Father Perez wants every Catholic to feel welcome and included in their Church home. “When God calls you to be a priest, you are called to serve all people.” The Diocese of Tulsa is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary jubilee year. Welcome, Catholic Pilgrims. Today, we begin reading the second letter in the book to the Teacher's College in Rome. This is written approximately one year after the last letter that we just read.  We are going to hear her describe the work being done on the hospital she founded in Chicago—Columbus Hospital. One of my followers on Facebook shared with us that he was born in that hospital. Sadly, it hospital no longer stands. Reading from online, “It closed in 2001 and was later demolished to make way for a high-rise condominium development called Park Michigan. The National Shrine of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, which was originally part of the hospital, was preserved and refurbished during the redevelopment and remains open to the public.” So, if you are ever in Chicago, you can go visit the National Shrine of Saint Frances Cabrini. We've got three shrines dedicated to Mother Cabrini in the States—one in Colorado, one in New York, and one in Chicago. And, I'm sure there are numerous churches named after her.  Today, we will read Part One of this letter beginning on page 311 and ending on page 315 at the first full paragraph. Let's go ahead and begin.
