Western media has played a central role in justifying and whitewashing Israel's assault on Gaza—just as it has done in past U.S.-backed wars from Iraq to Syria. Journalists who claim to champion press freedom are silent as activists and students face unprecedented repression for speaking out on Palestine. On this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop is joined by Katelynne Schuler, a thinker and innovator in the realms of psychology, religion, and philosophy. The conversation spans a wide range of compelling topics, including the layered nuances of Korean social hierarchy, the evolution of political language, and the shifting ideologies within Western conservatism. They explore the rebranding of the KKK, the deeper implications of free speech in a world dominated by digital platforms, and the unseen influence of corporations on government censorship. Katelynne also shares her insights on the psychology of "falls from grace" and how isolation during the pandemic may have catalyzed narcissistic tendencies in some people. The episode touches on larger philosophical questions about civilization, power, and media's role in shaping collective belief. To learn more about Katelynne Schuler, you can find her on Facebook under her name, Katelynne Schuler.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:00 Introduction to the Crazy Wisdom Podcast00:32 Exploring Korean Culture and Social Nuances02:52 Language and Political Ideologies04:23 Project 2025 and Political Shifts06:21 The KKK's Rebranding and Conservatism10:25 Theocracy and Intersectionalism11:14 Free Speech and Internet History30:05 The Impact of COVID-19 and Vaccines34:15 Clearing Out and Cognitive Dissonance35:07 Pandemic Social Dynamics36:06 Narcissism and Social Isolation38:22 Conspiracy Theories and Social Impact41:34 Lockdowns and Quarantine43:25 Media Manipulation and Public Perception44:52 Nanotechnology and Conspiracy Theories49:42 Bill Gates and Genetic Engineering52:42 Trump, Publicity, and Media Influence58:41 Finance, Asset Valuation, and Media Future01:03:30 Pandemic Warnings and Conspiracies01:07:34 Conclusion and Contact InformationKey Insights1. The Power of Language in Social and Political SystemsKatelynne Schuler highlights the profound role that language plays in shaping social dynamics, drawing on Korean culture's use of honorifics as a prime example. In Korean, different forms of language are used depending on social rank, respect, and familiarity, essentially creating three distinct "languages" within one. This insight is paralleled with Western political discourse, where the left and right often use the same words but with entirely different meanings. The observation points to a broader idea that shared language does not guarantee shared understanding—a crucial realization in an era of increasing political division.2. Free Speech, Corporate Power, and Government CensorshipA central thread in the episode is the evolution of free speech in the age of digital platforms. Schuler and Alsop explore how platforms like Twitter and Facebook have become arenas where free speech is both enabled and curtailed. While platforms have the right to control content as private entities, the duo highlights the more concerning trend of governments using corporations as proxies to suppress dissent. This dynamic blurs the line between free enterprise and state censorship, raising questions about how much "free speech" really exists in online spaces.3. The Psychological Fallout of Isolation and "Fall from Grace"Katelynne offers a unique psychological perspective on how the pandemic-induced isolation created a rise in narcissistic tendencies. As people lost their social connections, especially those ostracized for holding unpopular views on COVID, their need for self-validation intensified. This "fall from grace" experience can push people toward more rigid thinking, strengthening their attachment to specific beliefs or ideologies. Schuler notes that this isn't a reflection of right or wrong beliefs but a psychological response to social exclusion. It's a profound insight into how isolation and rejection affect the human psyche.4. The Rebranding of Extremist IdeologiesOne of the more startling revelations is the claim that groups like the KKK have rebranded themselves with a new focus on Christian nationalism, moving away from racial exclusion and embracing ideological alignment with "Christian values." Schuler notes that this shift aligns with a broader push within segments of American conservatism to integrate Christian morality into governance. This evolution is compared to the broader concept of theocratic governance, where laws are designed to reflect specific religious values—a concept that is controversial, even within conservative circles.5. Global Power Shifts and Lessons from HistoryThe episode provides a historical deep dive into events like the Seven Years' War, which Winston Churchill referred to as the first true "world war." Schuler suggests that while Germany was ostensibly defeated in this war, its real victory lay in how it exported its people and culture globally, influencing future power structures. This insight parallels modern debates about nationalism and globalism, with the hosts exploring how smaller, insulated communities might have better weathered the COVID crisis by closing off from global networks—much like Germany's "export" strategy.6. Technology, Nanotechnology, and the Role of Bill GatesAlsop and Schuler address the controversial role of Bill Gates, focusing on his investments in biotech and nanotechnology. They discuss Gates' involvement in genetically engineered mosquitoes released in South America and the ethical questions it raises. There's also a hint of speculative intrigue around nanobots, with references to origami-style nanostructures found in human blood. While these claims are framed as emerging curiosities rather than confirmed realities, they touch on larger concerns about who controls emerging technologies and to what end.7. The Fragmentation of Media and the Future of InformationFinally, the episode explores the fragmentation of media and its impact on public consciousness. Unlike previous decades when a few major outlets shaped collective opinion, today's media landscape is fractured, with individuals curating their own reality through niche sources. While this decentralization of media offers more choice, it also leads to greater division, as people consume entirely different versions of reality. Schuler suggests that this lack of a shared narrative might weaken societal cohesion, as people lose common ground on basic truths. This shift toward decentralized media aligns with broader conversations about social media algorithms and "echo chambers," where everyone has their own version of reality.

The 2024 BRICS Summit in Russia just ended and did we hear about it in Western Media? This interview is part of Zeteo's special content marking one year since the attacks on Oct. 7 and the genocidal war in Gaza that has followed.Processing what Palestinians in occupied Gaza have been living through for a whole year now is nearly an impossible task, and yet, much of mainstream media continues to ignore or deny Israel's war crimes in the strip. But Palestinian journalists like Hind Khoudary, the guest on this special segment of ‘Mehdi Unfiltered', are putting their lives on the line to fight against media complicity – literally. Since the start of the war, Khoudary has amassed nearly 1.5 million followers between Instagram and Twitter, putting her life on the line as she reports on the frontline of an ongoing genocide. Constant Israeli bombardment, the killing of Palestinian journalists, and regular internet outages make Khoudary's voice invaluable for Gaza and those trying to stay informed about Gaza.Over the last week and in the coming days, Zeteo is sharing special coverage marking one year since October 7th. Scroll down to see some of the pieces you may have missed. Khoudary is one of the few remaining journalists in occupied Gaza, with Israel having spent the past year killing at least 127 journalists and media workers there, and continuing to block foreign journalists from entering the strip. After all the bloodshed, she tells Mehdi how disappointed she is to have seen so little support from her colleagues in the West. “Not only they abandoned us, but the whole Western media was complicit,” says Khoudary.“We are the only source for all of these news organizations to report on what's happening,” she explains to Mehdi, adding that she is not only reporting on the horror stories in Gaza, but living them too. “It's not only like we're reporting this, but we're also living every single detail. Like when we report about famine, we're not eating food, when we report about diseases, we're being sick, when we report about people not being able to leave, we're also not being able to leave.” Watch the full interview above, and also see Khoudary react to an old interview of hers from 2017, as well as describing what life in Gaza is like today.More of our content marking one year on from October 7: This is a public episode. Within one week of the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, the BBC received more than 1,500 complaints relating to its coverage of the Israel-Hamas conflict. Criticisms were split almost evenly between those claiming its reporting had been biased against Israel and those saying it was biased in favour of Israel. These disparate interpretations of the media's coverage of the war are not limited to the BBC. Other mainstream media outlets like the New York Times, CNN, and the CBC have faced similar accusations in recent weeks. Israel's supporters argue that activists have infiltrated newsrooms, leading to journalism that is increasingly biased against the party whom many young progressives have deemed the villain in this conflict: Israel. From falsely and prematurely blaming Israel for an attack on a Gaza hospital, to refusing to use the word terrorists to describe Hamas, to trusting information provided to them by Hamas under the pretext of the Gaza Health Ministry, the international press has shown its true colours and cannot be relied upon to deliver unbiased, factual reporting. Others argue that the opposite is true. For decades the western press has ignored the suffering of Palestinians and deemed them less deserving of attention or sympathy due to a colonial, white supremacist way of thinking. Whereas Ukrainians who use violence to resist occupation are depicted as heroes, Palestinians are derided as attackers and terrorists. This dehumanization has made violence towards them more acceptable and has made western media outlets complicit in the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians. Arguing in favour of the resolution is James Kirchick. He's a columnist for Tablet magazine and a writer at large for Air Mail. Arguing against the resolution is Arwa Damon, a former CNN Senior International Correspondent. SOURCES: Sky News, BBC, Fox News The host of the Munk Debates is Rudyard Griffiths - @rudyardg. In this episode of the Patrick Henningsen Show on TNT Radio which aired on November 22, 2023, Patrick talks with independent French researcher and journalist Freddie Ponton, about the complete failure of Western media outlets and journalists to report events in Gaza truthfully and without extreme bias towards Israel. The result of their supine coverage and Western politicians' failure to restrain the Netanyahu regime – has been the implicit support of ethnic cleansing and genocide of the native Palestinians in Gaza. Can it be stopped? All this and more. [00:30] Islamic Jihad Bombs Gaza Hospital, Blames Israel (37 minutes) Hamas blamed Israel for the bombing of a hospital in Gaza yesterday, leading Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi to cancel a planned summit in Jordan with Joe Biden today. Video evidence from multiple angles proves that the missile that hit the hospital parking lot was fired from Gaza by the Islamic Jihad, but most media sources and world leaders continue to promote the false narrative that Israel was responsible. Also, Lee Smith wrote an important article for Tablet questioning how much the Biden administration knew before October 7 about the impending attack on Israel. [37:00] Ask the Right Questions (18 minutes) In times of peace and in times of crisis, faithful Christians must learn to ask the right questions to understand God's will.
“Reading a comic book isn't going to solve peace in the Middle East. But I do think part of the solution is understanding both sides.” We're all shocked and saddened by the attack on Israel - and as of this episode, war with Hamas. Officials and aid groups warn of a worsening humanitarian crisis, where escalating violence has already killed thousands of people and wounded and displaced many others. And that's a longer conversation that we're not going to have on this podcast. We pray for peace, and encourage you to reach out to the people in your respective communities to check in. But we know many of you want to know how you can help. The internet - particularly social media - is awash with misinformation, so it's especially important to verify that your contributions are going to organizations that are legitimate as well as effective. The Federal Trade Commission recommends searching charities' names alongside "complaint," "review," "rating" and "scam" to see if any red flags come up. You can also run a search on websites like like CharityWatch.org and CharityNavigator.org Beyond that, we're just a podcast. So we decided to re-air an earlier Quarantined Comics conversation about the graphic novel PALESTINE — Joe Sacco's seminal work of cartoon journalism from 1993. PALESTINE covers Sacco's travels thru occupied Palestine territory - and Israel - to embed himself with the Palestinian people - hearing their stories first-hand to understand how they lived their every day lives. Sacco wanted to get around the sanitized story the Western Media was potraying — to emphasizes the history and plight of the Palestinian people, as a group and as individuals. In PALESTINE Sacco positions himself as the westerner confronting a reality unfamiliar to most Americans at the time - concentrating on his personal experience and perspective, as well as the stories of the people he encounters, with some light history thrown in for good measure. Conversations are documented over tea, roadblocks, police action, taxis and checkpoints - which become all too familiar set pieces in Sacco's narrative journey. The book was published as 9 issues by Fantagraphics from 1993 to 1995, with a graphic novel published later to a much wider audience. Palestine is the recipient of the American Book Award, and was named as one of the Top 100 English-Language Comics of the last Century. Sacco has since gone on to publish numerous other works of cartoon journalism - covering the Middle East, Bosnia/Serbia, and the Native American plight. for which he's received recognition from TIME Magazine, the Eisners, the Harveys, and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize This is exactly the kind of conversation we want to have on Modern Minorities, which felt appropriate at this moment. This comic is relevant but distant to the ongoing crisis unfolding in the Middle East. While war and peace are not easy things to resolve, listening, learning, and reading with an open heart and mind is. We definitely encourage you to check out “PALESTINE” by Joe Sacco wherever you get your favorite books. But most of all, we hope for peace - as our thoughts are with the people of Israel and Gaza.
