Social Justice Sunday–Bishop Vincent Long–2023 Social Justice Statement The 2023 ACBC Social Justice Statement is called Listen, Learn, Love: A New Engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Bishop Vincent Long (Parramatta Diocese) launches the statement and reflects on the words of Pope John Paul II when he gave a powerful address in Alice Springs, in 1986. He reminded us of the importance of justice, respect for cultural diversity, and the protection of the dignity and heritage of our First Nations Peoples. This year's statement offers all Australians a constructive approach to take in relation to the upcoming referendum. Bishop Vincent explains the process used for this year's social justice statement. Much of the preparation was spent listening to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in major cities and regional and remote areas. We are deeply grateful to those who shared their stories of pain with us. Whatever the outcome of this year's referendum, we ask the Church in Australia to make efforts to lead the way for our fellow Australians. Our attitudes and actions towards First Nations Peoples need to be grounded in justice, love, and humility. “Doing justice, loving kindness and walking in humility” as the prophet long ago urges us.

In this episode of The Jeff Dornik Podcast, Jeff takes a look at the important issue of Social Justice. Last year, there was the Social Justice Statement that was drafted and signed by many within the Reformed Camp. One of the big names who endorsed this statement was Pastor John MacArthur. However, during Pastor MacArthur's Shepherds Conference, he still had Social Justice Warriors like Al Mohler, Mark Dever and Ligon Duncan speak, and even stated from the stage that he's not going to fight his friends. Jeff takes a look at whether this undermines the Social Justice Statement and what we are to do about it. Follow Jeff Dornik on Twitter at twitter.com/jeffthegk Follow The GK Podcast Network on Twitter at twitter.com/thegkonline Visit gatekeepersonline.com for articles, blogs and more podcasts. DISCLOSURE: During this podcast, we play a couple of clips from the Shepherds Conference Q&A session. These are used under Fair Use for purposes of reviewing these statements and to further the discussion using the words of John MacArthur, Al Mohler and Phil Johnson within context to properly understand their positions.
In this episode of The Sword and The Trowel, Tom Ascol and Jared Longshore continue talking about the Social Justice Statement, The Doctrine of Repentance by Thomas Watson, and the third of the Ten Commandments.
Our guest for this Conversation is Sam Jones. Sam is the pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Iowa Falls, Iowa, as well as the co-host of The Shining Light Podcast. During this conversation, Jeff and Sam discuss the problem with Social Justice, as well as the problem with sharing the stage with Social Justice Warriors. They specifically discuss the recent G3 Conference, as well as the upcoming Shepherds Conference, where the framers of the Social Justice Statement like John MacArthur, Phil Johnson and Josh Buice invite the very pastors promoting what they call the “most dangerous threat to the Gospel” to speak at their conferences. On top of that, Interfaith Dialogue is discussed. Thank you for listening, and please take the time to subscribe to this podcast so that you are notified when new episodes are posted. Our guest for this Conversation is singer/songwriter and pastor Steve Camp. We discuss, in depth, two primary topics: Interfaith Dialogues and the Social Justice Statement. We'll tackle some of the objections to our position on IFD from James White and his defenders, as well as take a look at why Steve is opposed to the Social Justice Warriors, as well as his criticism of the Social Justice Statement. Steve Camp has been in ministry since 1977 with the release of his first record, "Saying It With Love." Since then he has released 21 albums, had over 40 top ten hits and close to 20 number ones. He has won numerous awards, been elected to the Christian Music Hall of Fame and his album "Fire and Ice" was nominated in the top 100 CCM Albums of all time. Steve has championed many causes throughout his tenure from defeating hunger through Compassion, Int'l and Food for the Hungry; ministering to those with AIDS featuring his award winning song, "Do You Feel Their Pain?" He has been an avid spokesperson for defending the right to life for unborn children. In 1997 he released "The 107 Theses - A Call to Reformation for Contemporary Christian Music," which sent the Christian entertainment industry in Christian music and publishing into hyperdrive. Steve has never been timid about taking on issues from a strong reformed, biblical worldview. He doesn't play politics, and remains one of the most bold, dynamic voices for the Gospel and in preaching the Word of God today. But the last twenty years, Steve's focus in ministry has come for his passion for the local church in following his calling as a pastor. He served as an associate pastor with his mentor and friend, Dr. John MacArthur, at Grace Community Church, and for the last 8 1/2 years has been the Lead Pastor at The Cross Church in Palm City, Florida. He is married to Cynthia Camp and they have seven adult children, two daughter-in-laws, one son-in-law and one grandchild. In this double dose of KC podcast, Pastor Uri Brito interviews Lisa Robinson and Dustin Messer on the recent Social Justice Statement. Lisa Robinson observes that the whole counsel of Scripture portrays a creation that does not separate God's salvation from His acts in and through Jesus Christ. Lisa observes: Jesus was addressing the physical concerns of the people…and the social justice statement seems to set up a dichotomy of either you are for the gospel or you are for social justice as if those who can readily proclaim the Christian Gospel could not also be engaged and concerned for issues of social justice.” For further study, Lisa recommends Al Mohler's recent Q&A where he addresses directly the definition of social justice and Kevin DeYoung's article. Dustin Messer also joined the podcast to talk about the recent statement which he writes about here. Dustin affirms that though he agrees with many of the points in the statement, the statement ultimately offered enough false dichotomies to make it unhelpful. Dustin asserts that flattening out God's justice may actually lead to greater danger in how the Christian views his role in society. Further, he affirms that the main problem with the parishioner in the pew is not the danger of a subtle Marxist ideology, but sheer apathy.
Gordan Runyan highlights God's answer to Judah when the question became, “Why is all of this coming upon us?” The answer was twofold: Your fathers have sinned. And, you have done worse. Both sides in the currently hot debate over Social Justice seem to be forgetting one or the other of those reasons. A balanced, covenantal view avoids ditches on both sides of the road.
I’m taking a slightly different approach in today’s episode, in engaging with a prominent current event. A group of pastors, some of whom are quite well-known, led by John MacArthur, recently released a “statement on social justice” that is making quite a stir in Evangelical-Christian circles. I take this slightly-longer-than-normal episode to engage with it. Spoiler alert: I think it’s a disaster.

Today's episode (59) was a bit of a wing it episode in that I didn't cover as much as I would have liked due to a storm and time.
