The Man. The Man perfekt.

Send us a textHow did Cody Poskin, a guy who was told to “get lost” by the coach at his college, become one of the rising stars of ultrarunning and getting invited to run across the Gobi Desert in China? I dig into that with the help of another 23-year-old ultramarathon beast, TJ Harms-Synkiew. After Cody was spurned by the college coach, he decided to target the Boston Marathon, nailing a qualifying time in his first attempt. At age 21, he jumped up to ultras and won his first two races, including the Midstate Massive Ultra Trail 100-mile in a speedy 19:47. He was a very impressive 13th at his first Leadville Trail 100 in 2024 in 19:28, and then had another breakthrough at the Jackpot 100 miler, which he ran in 13:26, breaking the course record by 33 minutes. After placing 8th at the Cocodona 250 in 71:11, Cody joined 54 other runners to run the Ultra Gobi 400K, a life-altering experience. The Chinese hosted a world-class event as Cody describes, all while he had to navigate a course that had no markings, only checkpoints, and he had to run self-supported with a 15-pound pack in which he was required to carry 2000 calories at all times. He won in 64:49, shattering the course record by 4 hours, and earned the title Guanjun Marshall. What makes this episode fun for an old ultramarathon goat like me is listening to 23-year-olds who are relatively new to the sport and how they plunge into all sorts of challenges with the attitude of “I'll figure it out along the way.”Cody Poskincodyposkin.comInstagram, YouTube, and Threads @cody_poskinBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram and Threads @stahlor and @we_are_superman_podcastYouTube We Are Superman PodcastSubscribe to the We Are Superman Newsletter!https://mailchi.mp/dab62cfc01f8/newsletter-signupSubscribe to our Substack for my archive of articles of coaching tips developed from my more than three decades of experience, wild and funny stories from my long coaching career, the wit and wisdom of David, and highlights of some of the best WASP episodes from the past that I feel are worthwhile giving another listen.Search either We Are Superman Podcast or @billstahl8

It's a numbers game on KKHI today as gas prices, arrests, deportations and polls all make Trump look like, well, Trump. This is getting so good. A famous singer complains about the White House posting an AI video of the president in action set to the singer's song. Pro Football Focus has been the most respected football stat operation in America for years but it may have real trouble ahead. Wait until you hear the Mahomes stat from Sunday's game that should just end the stat forever. Texas Tech has pulled the plug on tortilla tossing at games. But with the stupid rule the Big 12 has, and no separate rule in place at KU's stadium, why wouldn't KSU students bring thousands of tortillas this week and toss them all over the place after the Jayhawks' disgraceful scandal in Lubbock two weeks ago? The World Series is set after a dramatic game seven in the American League. Former KU guard Christian Braun hits the jackpot and our Final Final is a famous actor we like talking about the role of a lifetime he missed.

TALK TO ME, TEXT ITYour cheese might be hiding more than flavor. We dig into new research showing widespread microplastics in dairy—why aged cheeses often carry higher particle counts than fresh, how packaging and processing contribute, and a few low-effort habits (like switching to glass for hot foods) that meaningfully shrink daily exposure without forcing you to give up the foods you love. This isn't alarmism; it's practical steps to reduce a dose we're all already getting. Then we pivot to a branding shocker: Long John Silver's leaning into chicken and reworking its logo. We unpack what a seafood chain's clucking signal means for fast-food identity, how market gravity pulls legacy brands off course, and why a logo only works if the menu and experience back it up. If nostalgia made you love the golden fish, can a spicy chicken plank earn the same loyalty—or does the switch dilute the promise? We talk product quality, rollout timing, and the tightrope between evolution and confusion. Finally, we head to the foothills of Altadena, where Powerball winner Edwin Castro is buying wildfire-scorched lots with plans to rebuild single-family homes. We explore what responsible redevelopment looks like: fire-resistant materials, defensible space, modern codes, and design choices that foster real community rather than speculation. Money can speed permits and framing, but trust depends on transparency, fair deals with sellers, and homes that add safety and belonging.Along the way, we share a quick weekend recap, shout out a favorite performer, and leave you with a seasonal prompt to join the conversation. Jack Eichel inks an 8-year, $13.5M/year deal in Vegas, structured heavily with signing bonuses, while Kyle Connor lands an 8-year, $12M/year contract to stay in Winnipeg—a move the Jets had to make to retain one of their elite offensive weapons. In Edmonton, the Oilers stay active, adding Jack Roslovic on a 1-year “reset” deal and extending Mattias Ekholm for three more years, ensuring stability on the blue line. Ray shares notes from Pittsburgh’s perfect opening night, where Arturs Silovs earned a shutout and Crosby played with some large, new linemates.
