It's never been easier to tear someone down from behind a screen. But what does that mean for Christians called to speak truth in love—not just in person, but online too?In Episode 99 of the Eyes on Jesus Podcast, Tim and Drew tackle the increasingly urgent topic of social media anonymity and its spiritual implications. In a time when online platforms reward outrage, controversy, and clicks over truth, many believers are losing sight of how to engage with others in a way that reflects the heart of Christ. This episode was sparked by the recent and sobering situation involving ministry leader Josh Buice, who was revealed to have operated multiple anonymous accounts used to slander fellow Christians. His fall serves as a sobering example of how hidden sin can flourish behind the veil of digital anonymity—and how integrity, accountability, and love must remain non-negotiables in our online lives.Anonymity Breeds Temptation:Operating behind a nameless handle makes it easier to say things that would never be said face-to-face—and often, those words cause real damage.Social Media Has Rewired Human Interaction:We are more connected than ever but often more isolated, harsh, and reactive. The lack of real-life interaction leads many to forget there's a person on the other side of the screen.Christian Truth Without Love Becomes Harmful:Even if what's said is “right,” if it's not said with grace, it becomes another clanging symbol in an already noisy world. As Christians, we are called to season our speech and reflect the love of Jesus, even online.Controversy Gets the Clicks:Algorithms promote what is outrageous, not what is edifying. Without intentional boundaries, believers can find themselves more focused on stirring division than sowing peace.Integrity Still Matters—Even When No One Sees:Just because it's anonymous doesn't mean it's harmless. Hidden activity online eventually leads to consequences, personally and publicly. We're Talking to Real People:Bots aside, most of our interactions online are with actual human souls. We're not debating avatars—we're influencing lives, for better or worse.Check Your Motives:Ask yourself: Why am I on social media? Is it to spread hope and truth, or to gain validation and vent frustration? It Might Be Time to Log Off:If your time online leads to more bitterness than growth, it may be time to unplug, regroup, and invite God to reset your heart. We're celebrating a major milestone next week as Tim and Drew are joined by their wives for a personal and heartfelt conversation about life, faith, and family. It's one you won't want to miss!

Mike, a Roman Catholic for the first 35 years of his life, will tell us about the new pope, the first American-born leader of the Catholic Church, and explain core Catholic doctrines—like Peter being the first pope—and how these contrast with God's Word. But before we get to the new pope and the Roman Catholic Church, Mike and I will discuss the disheartening news this week that Josh Buice, founder and president of G3 Ministries, a ministry focused on building the church up in sound doctrine, has resigned due to the uncovering of anonymous social media accounts that he was using to slander other Christians and ministries and then lying about it.Paul told Timothy to “Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you” (1 Timothy 4:16). This is a sobering reminder that we must not only examine our teaching but our hearts.

Natasha: But first, influential Calvinist pastor has been suspended from his church over multiple fake social media accounts he ran where he criticized pastors and elders in his inner circle. Warren: Josh Buice, founder of the G3 Conference and pastor of Pray's Mill Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia, was placed on indefinite leave last week after church leaders “uncovered irrefutable evidence that Dr. Buice has, for the past three years, operated at least four anonymous social media accounts, two anonymous email addresses, and two Substack platforms.” According to a statement from the church. “These accounts were used to publicly and anonymously slander numerous Christian leaders, including faithful pastors (some of whom have spoken at G3 conferences), several PMBC elders, and others,” “These actions were not only sinful in nature but deeply divisive, causing unnecessary suspicion and strife within the body of Christ, and particularly within the eldership of PMBC.” Natasha: Buice has also resigned as president of G3, which was founded in 2019 and brought in $2.3 million in revenue for the 2023 calendar year, according to its public IRS financial disclosures. The group grew out of a conference started by Buice in 2013 — the name G3 stands for “Gospel, Grace, Glory.” The group claimed its annual conference drew 6,500 people in 2021, according to the G3 website. Warren: The board of G3 has canceled the group's annual conference, which had been planned for September, and promised full refunds. Natasha: So who was he criticizing? Warren: Buice especially criticized former Southern Baptist ethicist Russell Moore and Bible teacher Beth Moore (not related) for allegedly promoting liberal ideas in the church, as well as former SBC President Ed Litton for alleged sermon plagiarism. As they unpack the implications of public scrutiny, Andrew emphasizes the importance of accountability and humility, advocating for a culture where Christians uplift one another rather than succumb to the allure of gossip and judgment. His insights challenge listeners to reflect on their own attitudes toward fallen leaders, prompting a broader discourse on the need for grace and understanding within the church community. Through their banter, both speakers maintain a light-hearted tone. Yet, the gravity of their discussion is palpable, making it a poignant exploration of faith, forgiveness, and the ethics of digital communication.Takeaways:In this podcast episode, Andrew Rappaport discusses the ethical responsibilities of pastors and Christians on social media, emphasizing the need for integrity and accountability in their online interactions. The conversation highlights how personal experiences, like Andrew's own struggles with slander, shape one's approach to handling public controversies within the church community. Listeners are encouraged to pray for those who have stumbled in their faith, such as Josh Buice, instead of rushing to judgment or criticism. This will foster a spirit of reconciliation among believers. Andrew shares that the importance of discernment in ministry is distinguishing between right and wrong and between right and almost right, urging caution in public discourse. The episode reminds us that social media platforms can amplify pride and tribalism among Christians, urging individuals to reflect on their intentions before posting. Ultimately, the dialogue aims to encourage a culture of prayer and support within the Christian community rather than one of condemnation and division, especially during times of crisis. Cultural trends are insufficient, but God's Word's is sufficient to build His church. No other foundation will do. Yet for the last century, “do-what-works” pragmatism has been a driving force in how many churches have pursued evangelism, worship, and church life. Rather than believing God's Word is enough, results-oriented ministry has dominated, leading to entertainment-centered youth programs, seeker-sensitive worship, among many other ills. In this podcast, Scott Brown and Jason Dohm, joined by special guest Josh Buice, discuss how pragmatism has undermined faithful Gospel preaching, encouraged congregations to not practice church discipline, and decreased standards of church membership—all stemming from a diminished trust in God's sufficient Word. Their call to the church is this: Instead of every man doing “what [is] right in his own eyes” (Judg. 17:6), we must believe that the Scripture is all we need for “the man of God [to] be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

As newer voices expose MLK's radical ideas, Christians are reexamining his faith, morality, and political views. Some Christians are evening shifting their view of MLK's "I Have a Dream Speech." Jon examines both contemporary voices like Daniel Darling, Josh Buice, Owen Strachan, Mike Pence, Christopher Rufo, Ron Desantis, Paul Kengor, Charlie Kirk, Virgil Walker as well as older conservative voices like Sam Francis and Christopher Caldwell. Most of the podcast simply examines MLK in his own words borrowing from speech compilations from the Autobiography of MLK and The Radical MLK. The subject of racism and the influence of wokeness on the Church is a topic that stirs emotions and sparks passionate discussions. In this podcast episode, the guys have an in-depth dialogue with Josh Buice, founder and president of G3 Ministries, to explore these crucial matters and their impact on the Church. Josh Buice provides an insightful exploration of the impact of wokeness on the Church. As a strong advocate for the gospel's unifying power, he sheds light on the divisive nature of wokeness, which rather than fostering unity, further fractures the Church. Buice emphasizes the importance of adhering to God's Word as the ultimate guide for justice, a crucial message in the wake of the rising popularity of the woke agenda. The conversation also navigates the transformative journey of G3 Ministries, which originated from a humble church campus and evolved into a resonating voice that champions biblical truth. This journey is a testament to the power of faith and commitment to standing firm in the face of shifting societal norms. In discussing the impact of wokeness on the Church, the episode brings to the fore the issues of the “Me Too” and “Church Too” movements, and the increasing endorsement of critical race theory in the Southern Baptist Convention. The conversation presents a critical examination of the concept of intersectionality and its role in the wokeness movement. The discussion provides listeners with the necessary tools to understand and resist harmful ideologies. It emphasizes the need for a fortified theology of justice and the importance of a classical education in equipping young people to defend their faith. The podcast concludes with a reflection on Christian leadership in a changing society. In the face of the growing influence of social justice on the Christian faith, it stresses the importance of applying God's Word as the ultimate guide for justice, as opposed to the trend of social gospel justice influenced by cultural Marxism. This podcast episode is a call for all Christians to actively engage in discussions around wokeness, racism, and the Church's role in justice. It encourages listeners to not only listen and learn but to actively engage in this crucial conversation. The power to resist harmful ideologies lies not just in awareness but in understanding and action. This episode was recorded at G3 2023 National Conference. Thanks for listening! Today we're discussing gender roles in the church, preaching vs. pastoring, and what a woman is allowed to do biblically. There is a debate circulating on social media over whether women should be able to teach academic theology or exposit the Bible even to other women. We start with definitions of biblical patriarchy, complementarianism, and egalitarianism. The patriarchal view says that if a woman is to teach other women, it must be within the bounds of child-rearing and homemaking. We explain why hierarchies in the home and church are important, but why complementarianism is different from biblical patriarchy. We all have proper context and responsibilities for our gifts, but while we agree that women should not be pastors or teach in pastoral roles, we don't see biblical support for the idea that women can't be talking about academic theology publicly, generally speaking. We look at John Piper's breakdown of complementarianism and touch on theological works written by women and discipleship. --- Timecodes: (00:46) Intro and definitions (06:36) Biblical patriarchy (14:55) My personal take (21:26) Hierarchies in the home and church (27:08) God-given skills / female pastors (36:52) Theological works by women (42:27) Discipleship (45:22) John Piper's view / complementarianism --- Today's Sponsors: Birch Gold — protect your future with gold.
