He almost made it on Team USA for two different Olympics, in events that many say make up the best athlete in the world: the decathlon. In this episode of the "Run the Race" podcast - which you can easily subscribe to - I talk to Spud Alford about training for Olympic dreams for almost a decade, a battle with cancer where they gave him 6 months to live (40+ years ago), prayers of healing, God radically changing his life, creating board games revolving around sports, and chasing a world record involving sprint speed even now at nearly 70 years old. (4:57) Spud talks about a conversation with God while at University of Southern Miss and watching Bruce Jenner in the Olympic while working at Sears prompted him to go after the eventually-boycotted 1980 Olympics. He became the 8th highest ranked decathlete in America! (12:14) Overcoming injuries and training again for the 1984 Olympics, even using steroids to do so, he got a diagnosis of deadly and dangerous testicular cancer. Fast forward to a prayer from a stranger, and doctors amazed by his healing. He fell just short of the Olympics. (22:46) Drifting from God for years, he now shares his testimony all over, also played Jesus in a big church production for almost 2 decades, and led now pastors to God. (29:15) Regrets about missing out on the Olympics? Spud also gives us his favorite and worst of the 10 decathlon events, which he focused on during almost his entire 20s in age. He also authored 2 books, explaining what one title "God If You Are Real" really means - it involves tragedy and triumph. (36:19) He's also faced depression, now focused on guarding his thoughts. (40:39) And Spud created a business called Zelosport, creating 7 board games including "finger football" that led to a national championship of that game. (44:25) Now, at 69 years old, Spud continues working out - this time trying to break the world record for his age in the 100 meter dash, hoping to do so at the Masters Olympic Games! How's he training? Spud also talks about the neurology and feeling of speed, running fast. We, who recently celebrated Father's Day, should count it a privilege to be a man, a real man, a spiritual man, and to never let anyone or anything distract us from that sacred calling and even our reasons for existence. What a privilege and pleasure it is to be a real man, A REAL BIOLOGICAL MAN. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Brave Indonesian pastor teaching about Christ to students in Muslim country Located in the Muslim-majority country of Indonesia, Pastor Arib was told they could no longer meet in their church building to worship, which they had been doing for two years, but now had to meet in people's homes instead, reports International Christian Concern. Additionally, Pastor Arib saw that one of the local schools did not offer a course where students could learn about religions besides Islam. He volunteered to teach a Christian education course for free. Initially, the school principal disapproved of Christian religious lessons because the school was predominantly Muslim, but Arib insisted. Finally, the school board approved his request, and he now teaches his class every Friday.  Because both his church and the school lack Bibles in their local Indonesian language, they requested and received 60 copies from International Christian Concern. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. ” McCarthy becomes House Speaker, but on a short leash After 14 failed votes for House Speaker, Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy of California was elected as the 55th House Speaker in the early hours of Saturday, January 7th by a vote of 216–212, reports The Epoch Times.  But, thanks to 20 courageous conservatives, his coveted prize came with major strings attached. The key compromise is his willingness to agree to a rule change that allows just one Congressman to move to vacate the speaker's chair, giving McCarthy a fragile grip on power. That concession is found in subsection “q” of the new House rules package. Were this motion to be invoked, McCarthy would need a majority of 218 votes to remain as House speaker. Attorney Jenna Ellis, who represented the 2020 Trump campaign, tweeted, “This effectively neuters McCarthy.” Such a motion would be made via a so-called “privileged resolution,” which supersedes all other business except adjournment. In terms of McCarthy's House Speaker victory, while it normally takes 218 votes—a majority of the House—to become speaker, that threshold can be reduced if members are absent or merely vote present. It's precisely this maneuver that enabled McCarthy to cross the finish line, as six Republicans voted “present” instead of “yea” in the final vote. They include Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Eli Crane (R-Ariz.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Bob Good (R-Va.), and Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.). Last Tuesday, the FDA updated its website to reflect new guidelines on abortion pill access, which now allows retail pharmacies to carry mifepristone which, used alongside misoprostol, causes the deaths of unborn babies at early stages of development. Family Research Council Action writes, “Abortion-inducing drugs take the lives of unborn children and are much likelier to cause a negative health outcome for pregnant women than surgical abortions. Studies show these drugs include a 53% greater risk of a complication than after a surgical abortion. The study found respondents were more likely to pray than to read the Bible. About 80% said they pray, and 39% said they read the Bible or a devotional. Those who attend church weekly were more likely to read the Bible during their devotional time (at 70%) than those who attend less frequently (at 52%).  Psalm 88:13 says, “But I, O Lord, cry to You; in the morning my prayer comes before You.” Crocs promotes drag queen shows for kids And finally, Christians are tossing their Crocs. The leftist footwear company is sparking outrage for cosponsoring an upcoming RuPaul DragCon UK event, which is being advertised as open to anyone UNDER the age of 18. That's right – minors! Plus, Taylor Hansen tweeted that “it appears that Crocs is not only promoting children dressing in drag to perform for adults, but has fully subscribed to the woke mind virus. In their ads they promote drag queens, being ‘non-binary,' coming out as Queer, and [homosexual] Pride Month.” In the second Crocs ad, two homosexual actors rave about all their different styles of Crocs before they head to the baptism of a “mean gay baby.” In the third Crocs ad, a lesbian couple, who had a faux homosexual wedding, talk about announcing their sexual perversion and getting married. And, in the fourth Crocs ad, they feature a collage of all their previous ads celebrating unnatural desires. The patient spends approximately 12 months on hormone therapy, and living with supportive counselling… Dr Roth explains which surgery mostly commonly performed to go from both male to female, and female to male sex. This area of surgery is growing in popularity, especially after the public celebrity change of Bruce Jenner to Caitlyn Jenner. Of course post-operation requires the patient to fastidious follow all the laid-out requirements from the plastic/reconstructive surgeon team to assure the patients finally outcome to look good and feel great is a success. More and more city centre medical facilities are aware of this growing demand. Providing a transgender surgery service…for example, the one in Las Vegas has only really grown in the last 5-years. Dr Roth predicts that more surgical fellowships will pop-up as the demand for transgender surgery grows, and is a complicated medical procedure. Plastic surgery is forever evolving and all surgeons want to keep abreast of the changes to better serve their patients. One of my favorite quotes that I enjoy saying in my fitness classes is “Go through the finish and not to the finish line.”I recently watched this docuseries on Netflix called “UNTOLD” and one of the episodes was about Bruce Jenner and his journey to the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. I wasn't particularly interested in watching it … and ten minutes in, I was hooked. I learned so much about my favorite quote.After Bruce finished the decathlon he made the choice to continue on his feet. He made the demand of himself not to collapse on the floor like the other Olympians would after the decathlon. It was so inspiring.This documentary led me to ask myself this key question: Where am I choosing to make the demand of myself? And, Where am I choosing to not make the demand of myself? In a special Pivot conversation, Caitlyn Jenner joins Ryan, Channing and Fred in a rare and open discussion from sports, to transitioning, to transgender athletes, to dishing on all her children and even gets into where she stands on her own personal relationships.  Ryan opens up the conversation saying to Caitlyn, at one time as Bruce Jenner, you were the greatest athlete in the world and on Wheaties boxes...She responds yes, I have the greatest double in life- best male athlete and woman of the year, and jokes I bet you will never have another guest who can say that! As the conversation gets underway, Jenner recalls how her gender dysphoria began at an early age, and cropped up throughout her life, including at her highest moment, right after winning the gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympics. Sharing with guys that she woke up the next morning with nothing on, staring at the gold medal and wondering what had she done, questioning herself if she created a larger than life male figure that she would be stuck with for the rest of her life. For Jenner, she shares that winning the Olympics is Caitlyn's fondest memory of Bruce.  With her children as her proudest accomplishment, Caitlyn shares about all of her kids and grandkids between the Jenner and Kardashian clans and what it was like telling them about her transition and the process of asking them before she did it. She shares how they were very afraid but in the end supportive of her choice to be happy and lives authentically.   Extremely happy for Kim's new relationship with Pete Davidson, Caitlyn jokes how they are happy to have a comedian in the family and have enough rappers and athletes and gushes about Travis Scott being a great father to Stormi and Devin Booker being a strong partner for Kendall. Sharing some of her parenting hopes, she only wants the best for all her children and if they are all happy then she's happy.  Channing turns the conversation personal when he dives into dating and how Caitlyn is spending her time nowadays. Caitlyn's business partner and friend Sophia Hutchins joins the conversation in a funny banter about relationships and makes it clear that there is nothing going on between the two and that she prefers males to females. Continuing the banter, they get into politics and Sophia is clear that if Bruce was the one running for Governor he would have won by a lot but being Caitlyn made that feat much harder.  Closing out the episode, Caitlyn shows off her gold medal to the guys who are in awe of this accomplishment and allow Caitlyn to reflect on the biggest pivot she has made and share her insight to others going through anything.
