「アメリカ生まれの鈴木彩艶が日本代表でプレーしている理由が話題に」　　2026 FIFAワールドカップ（W杯）のグループFで、日本代表はオランダ代表と2-2で引き分けた。その試合でセリエAのパルマに所属する日本代表GK鈴木彩艶が4度の好セーブを見せ、注目を集めている。　米メディア『Sports Illustrated』は「なぜアメリカ生まれの鈴木は2026W杯で日本代表としてプレーしているのか」と題した記事を掲載した。　同メディアは、ガーナ人の父と日本人の母を持つ鈴木がアメリカ合衆国ニュージャージー州ニューアークで生まれたことから、日本代表に加えてアメリカ代表とガーナ代表でもプレーする資格を有していたと伝えている。　しかし、ガーナ人の父と日本人の母を持つ鈴木は幼少期に家族とともに浦和へ移り住み、サッカーを始めた。J1浦和レッズの下部組織で育ち、2019年には16歳でクラブ史上最年少のトップチーム契約を結んだ。　その後、2023/24シーズンにベルギー1部シント＝トロイデンへ期限付き移籍し、2024年夏にはパルマへ加入。今2025/26シーズンのセリエAで鈴木は20試合に先発出場し、5試合のクリーンシートと66セーブを記録した。　また同メディアは、鈴木がアメリカの年代別代表でプレーした経験はなく、U-15からU-23まで一貫して日本代表でプレーしてきたと説明。2022年に日本代表デビューを果たし、すでに25試合に出場していることから、現在はアメリカ代表やガーナ代表でプレーする資格を持たないという。　一方で米大手メディア『The Athletic』の情報として、アメリカサッカー連盟は過去に鈴木を代表へ招くことへ強い関心を示していたとも伝えている。

Peter's 2nd Epistle, of which we read the first 2 chapters, is extremely challenging because it relates in several ways to the excessively ungodly atmosphere in which we live.  But first, we were fascinated by lessons in our O T readings.  Samson upset his parents because he “saw one of the daughters of the Philistines” and said to them” get her for me as my wife.”  His parents objected, but he insisted; then comes the comment, “His father and mother did not know it was from the LORD, for he was seeking an opportunity against the Philistines” [Judges 14 v.1-4]We perceive from this that God does not overrule human freewill; what he does is to weave it into his ongoing purpose in his oversight of human affairs especially those of his chosen people. We perceive the same principle in the life of Hezekiah that Isaiah writes about [ch.38]. The LORD told him to “set your house in order, for you shall die … Hezekiah wept bitterly” [v.1,2] and the LORD heeded his prayers, but the son that succeeded him, born during the 15 years added to his life, was a disaster, but the nation had not appreciated the blessings of Hezekiah's reign and the deliverance we read about yesterday, they ‘deserved' a bad king..In 2nd Peter we see that those in special service before God can, on occasion, be described as “angels”  In Matt. 11 v.10, John the Baptist is described as a “messenger” but in Gk the word is ‘aggelos'.  This word is used by Peter (2 v.4) saying “for if God did not spare the angels that sinned” referring, we conclude to some of the Levites who had the privilege of serving in the Tabernacle, see Numbers 16.   Also in Heb. 2 v.2, “the message declared by angels (‘aggelos')” is most likely a way of describing human prophets such as Isaiah, who declared God's message.Peter contrasts the judgement on “the angels that sinned” with the deliverance of Noah and Lot because of their righteousness (v.5-8)  He then makes the point that there will be no sparing by God of believers who become sinful in Peter's day.  “There will be false teachers among you … and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed” [2 v.1,2] Peter is very blunt about those who “have hearts trained in greed … forsaking the right way.” [v.14,15]  Let us hold fast to the right way – so that God will spare us from his judgements that will surely come on this godless world (see ch. 3) Let us live “lives of holiness and godliness” [3 v.11]

「ヴィッセル神戸、集団食中毒発生していた！トゥーレルらに影響か。その裏側とは？」　　J1百年構想リーグ優勝を成し遂げたヴィッセル神戸。AFCチャンピオンズリーグエリート（ACLE）でもベスト4入りを果たし、4億円規模の賞金を獲得したが、その裏で悲惨な出来事があったという。　8日放送のスポーツ番組『MONDAY FOOTBALL みんなのJ』では、元日本代表FW大迫勇也、FW武藤嘉紀、DF酒井高徳によるインタビュー動画が公開。優勝直後に撮影されたものであるが、その中で話題がACLEに及ぶと、出演者は4月21日のACLE準決勝アル・アハリ戦後の出来事に言及。「帰りのインドで集団食中毒になった」と、チーム一行の3分の1が体調不良になったことを明かしている。　神戸はアル・アハリ戦で1-2と敗北。サウジアラビア遠征には大迫、武藤、酒井、GK前川黛也など主力選手がこぞって帯同していた。そのアル・アハリ戦を終えた後は、29日開催のJ1百年構想リーグのセレッソ大阪と対戦し、PK戦の末に敗北。この試合でも大迫、武藤、酒井の3選手はスタメン出場も、前川は出番なし。メンバー入り選手の顔ぶれを見ると、アル・アハリ戦後に発生した集団食中毒による影響は大きくなかったとみられるが、それでもアル・アハリ戦でスタメン出場のDFマテウス・トゥーレルは、C大阪戦でベンチ外。集団食中毒の影響を受けた可能性が考えられる。　C大阪戦こそ敗れた神戸。5月2日に行われたガンバ大阪戦では0-5と大敗を喫し、その後もファジアーノ岡山やV・ファーレン長崎に敗れるなど、厳しい戦いを強いられた。　サウジアラビア集中開催のACLEノックアウトステージ（準々決勝以降）が選手のコンディションに与える影響は以前から心配されていたが、その中で集団食中毒という裏側が明らかになっている。

Today's readings.. (Joshua 13), (Isaiah 17,18), (2 Timothy 3,4) Today we completed Paul's 2nd letter to his “son in the faith” Timothy. He deplores what he sees the future is going to hold for believers; a serious decline of faith and a Christ-like way of living.  As Paul looks into the future  “the Spirit” gives him a ‘picture' of what is going to develop in “the last days.” [3 v.1]   Paul of course has no idea as to how far off this future time is. But the description of this ‘time' that is revealed to him has a specific focus on the condition of believers: they “will be lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness but denying its power” [v.4,5]. The word “power” is the Gk word dunamis, it does not necessarily refer to something miraculous, earlier this month we saw Paul use it twice in his first chapter in writing to the Colossians, ”may you be strengthened with all power” [v.11]  “… I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me” [v.29] Believers need real energy of mind – and the real pursuit of godliness generates such power – spiritual strength of mind.   Paul told the Corinthians that the Lord said to him as he struggled with a divinely given “thorn in the flesh”, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” [2 Cor. 12 v.9]  Paul then adds, “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me”   This is not power in the sense of miracle working, but inner strength developed through the reality of our relationship with our Lord and the Father.  We read 2 days ago how Paul told Timothy,  “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” [ch. 1 v.7]Back to chapter 3; we are aware how true Paul's prediction has been throughout history that “all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and imposters will go from bad to worse.  But as for you (and us!) continue in what you have learned and firmly believed … how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred scriptures … breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness” [v.12-14,16]  May we  increase our zeal for the Holy Scriptures and develop a greater “spirit .. of power and love and self-control” as we complete our “training in righteousness”.

Today's readings.. (Numbers 35), (Proverbs 26), (John 8) What did Jesus mean, “The Truth will set you free?” Free from what?  The 8th chapter of John today contains aspects of the teachings of Jesus that we have to think around and put into context to get the correct meaning.  The critics of Jesus were usually those whose thought processes were mechanical.  Concerning the woman caught in adultery, They thought they had him cornered, if he said the Mosaic law should be observed and she should be stoned they would probably have done so, or got others to, and then blamed Jesus before the Roman authorities because the Jews had no right to put anyone to death – that is why they brought Jesus before Pilate.. See John 18 v.31.If Jesus has said something different, they would have denounced him before the people for not upholding the law!   His reaction confounded them – and after he said “Let him who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her” [v.7] they slunk away from Jesus, no one was without sin among them. Only Jesus was without sin – and he said to her, “Woman, where are they?  Has no one condemned you?  She said, ‘No one Lord'  And Jesus said, ‘Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.'” [v.10,11]  Notice how she addresses Jesus as “Lord”!  She saw him as far more than a “teacher” which is how the Jews addressed him.Jesus speaks to all who come to him – in the same words as he spoke to the woman – whatever our failures have been, and the closer we come to “the light of the world” the more we are aware of those failures – but we also learn the truth of his words, “Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” [v.12] and all the “darkness” in our character will be obliterated, indeed Christ will then be “formed in you.” [Gal. 4 v.19]Jesus went on to tell them, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” [v.31,32[    The key action on our part is to “abide” in the word of Jesus.  John uses the Gk word for ‘abide' more than 40 times in his gospel and the translators render it variously as ‘continue', ‘dwell'  ‘remaining' etc. Are you abiding in his word? Is the word ‘abiding' in you?  If the answer is ‘Yes' – you have been set free!Jesus made the point, “ … I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin” – it has become part of their character.  But “if the Son sets you free you will be free indeed” [v.36]   He told the religious leaders, “…you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.” [v.37]   May it have found a place in us – in you – or will soon do so. Remember Jesus said, “Whoever is of God hears the words of God.” [v.47] – and as we read – we “hear.”

While he was preaching God's word (OUR JOB- PREACH THE WORD OF GOD - Preaching Gods word always messes up the religious and the traditional) to them, 3 four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. 4 They couldn't bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, (PEOPLE ARE SELFISH EVEN WITH THE BEST INTENTIONS) so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. (SOMEBODY'S GOTTA GET DIRTY - uh…thats not how we do things here - the religious are always quick to point out the “right way”) 5 Seeing their faith ( GK-auton personal possessive pronoun all 5 had faith), Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” (CHILD, I AM YOUR FATHER, YOU ARE MY CHILD, I DISCERN YOUR BELIEF - you believe in me therefore you are now my child/I am your Father)  6 But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, 7 “What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!”  (WHY DO YOU THINK THESE MEN SAW JESUS AS THE MESSIAH BUT NOT THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS?) 8 Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? 9 Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,' or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk'? (RELIGIOUS LEADERS TAUGHT THAT SICKNESS WAS DUE TO SIN IN A PERSONS LIFE - so healing and forgiveness were intertwined) 10 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, 11 “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” 12 And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We've never seen anything like this before!”   a series of controversy stories (Mark 2:1–3:6) that highlight growing opposition to Jesus from Jewish religious authorities       Both reveal Jesus exercising divine authority in ways that clash with first-century Jewish expectations.     Jesus first declares, “Son, your sins are forgiven”—bypassing expected healing and striking at the root issue.     (forgiving sins is “easier” because invisible and unprovable; healing is verifiable), and performs the harder visible act to authenticate the invisible one. The healed man's immediate obedience proves Jesus' authority as the “Son of Man” who exercises divine power now, not just in a future kingdom. The crowd's reaction (“We never saw anything like this!”) underscores the unprecedented nature of the claim.   Taxi drivers in NY - get out now. Uber is coming. It will change everything.     This incident challenges the entire religious establishment: forgiveness is no longer Temple-bound but available through Jesus' word; institutional mediators (scribes, sacrifices, Pharisees, Rules and Temple system) are sidelined.
