Why Hold On if God Won't Let Go? | Jude 1:24-25

Series: Contending for the Faith Title: “Why Hold on if God Won't Let Go?” Scripture: Jude 24-25 NIV Psalm 37:23-24 Psalm 139:23-24 Proverbs 24:16 John 10:27-30 Romans 8:38-39 Ephesians 1:13-14 Hebrews 13:5 1 John 2:19 1 John 5:13 Bottom line: We hold on because he holds us. INTRODUCTION CONTEXT OUTLINE CONCLUSION DISCUSSION QUESTIONS NOTES YOUTUBE DESCRIPTION MAIN REFERENCES USED My opening prayer: Lord God, help us grow to be and do like Jesus, while abiding in him and leading others to do the same. OPENING STORY "He is able to keep..." Watch a parent walk a small child along the edge of a busy sidewalk. The child is doing real walking — short, wobbly, determined steps, working as hard as little legs can work. And then she trips. Of course she does; her foot catches the curb and she pitches forward. But she doesn't hit the pavement. She never even gets close. Her hand is wrapped inside a bigger hand, and the instant she goes, that hand lifts and steadies and sets her back on her feet before the fall can finish. She stumbled — but she did not fall. Jude has spent his whole letter telling us to walk a dangerous edge: in the midst of false and deceptive teachers, contend, build, keep, rescue — right alongside the place where others have already gone over and not come back. Now, in the last two verses, he shows us the hand. “To him who is able to keep you from stumbling.” Or as the psalmist said it long before: "Though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand" (Psalm 37:24). The missteps still come. The fatal fall never does — because the grip holding you is not your own. Said another way, we may find ourselves in the ditch along the narrow way...but he's right there pulling us out of the muck and mire back onto the highway of our God. Too Busy in this life A traveler once walked more than 700 miles to see Niagara Falls. As he neared his destination, he heard a distant roar and asked a nearby farmer, “Is that Niagara Falls?” The farmer replied, “I don't know. It might be.” Surprised, the traveler asked, “Do you live here?” “Born and raised here,” the farmer said. “And you've never gone to see the falls?” “No, stranger. I've been too busy looking after my farm.” What a tragedy—to live within the sound of one of the world's greatest wonders and never take the time to see it. And yet many Christians do something similar. We know heaven is coming. We know we will stand in the presence of God's glory. We hear about it every week. But we become so busy with the things of this world that we lose our appetite for the world to come. Jude reminds us that God is keeping us for something far greater: to be presented before His glorious presence, blameless and with great joy. Poem "Some want to live within the sound Of church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop Within a yard of hell." CONTEXT The entire letter begins and ends with God's keeping power: * Jude 1 — “To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ.” * Jude 21 — “Keep yourselves in God's love…” * Jude 24 — “To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you…” * Jude 25 — Doxology praising the God who does the keeping. That creates a beautiful tension: Kept by God (v.1) → Keep yourselves in God's love (v.21) → Kept by God (v.24). The question practically preaches itself: “If God is holding me, why does Jude tell me to hold on?” Imagine being swept toward a waterfall. You know you cannot save yourself. Then a strong rescuer reaches you and takes hold of your arm. The question isn't whether he will hold on. The question is: Why would you not hold on to him? That's the tension in Jude. God has taken hold of us. Therefore, we keep ourselves in His love. Not to earn His rescue. Not to maintain His rescue. But because His rescue is already underway. “Why Hold On If He's Holding You?” That raises one of the most important questions in the Christian life: Is my salvation ultimately dependent on how tightly I hold onto God—or how tightly God holds onto me? OUTLINE (Help from Shaddix/Akin) I. God holds/keeps me. (Jude 1, 24) i.e. I am saved and secured by God's power, promise, person, and praise. A. We are secure because of God's power “To him who is able…” Not merely willing. Able. Cross references: * John 10:28-29 * Romans 8:38-39 * Philippians 1:6 B. We are secure because of God's promise If eternal life can be lost, it was never eternal. Cross references: * John 6:37-40 * John 17:12 * Hebrews 10:14 C. We are secure because of God's person God does not change. The One who called you is the One who keeps you. Cross references: * Malachi 3:6 * 2 Timothy 2:13 * Hebrews 13:8 D. We are secure because of God's praise Verse 25 is worship. Jude cannot discuss salvation without ending in doxology. The doctrine of eternal security is not merely comfort. It is fuel for worship. The point is not: “Look how strong my faith is.” The point is: “Look how great my Savior is.” II. I am to keep hold of God's love. (Jude 21) God keeps me by helping me hold on to him and his love. Many people have asked: “If God keeps me, why must I keep myself?” Answer: Because security is not an excuse for passivity. Illustrate: A child walking through a crowded airport. The child holds Dad's hand. Dad also holds the child's hand. Which grip matters most? Dad's. Yet the child still holds on. The father may even let go of the child's hand in the airport to give the child a little more freedom and the child may stay close because they know that's where they're secure. But the human condition is that we are prone to wander from his grip hurting our fellowship with him. Not that we can get away from him and his security, but that we can wander far enough to impact our fellowship and assurance negatively. Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing “Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love.” “Here's my heart, O take and seal it, Seal it for Thy courts above.” …because relationship requires abiding John 15. …because obedience strengthens assurance Not salvation. Assurance. …because spiritual drift is real The false teachers in Jude prove this. …because God uses means Prayer. Scripture. Church. Worship. Fellowship. …because the kept become keepers Verses 22-23. We rescue others. …because God's preserving grace produces perseverance This is the key theological answer. The evidence that God is keeping us is that we continue following Him. God's sovereignty and human responsibility are friends, not enemies. You might even summarize: God's grip is the cause. Our grip is the evidence. CONCLUSION Bottom line: We hold on because he holds us. As I've said, we have four daughters. All are married. As we wait for the music to start--in those few moments where your life flashes before you--before you begin to walk down that aisle before God and all those people--I established a tradition that goes back to the days when selfies were the rage. It was 2016. Selfies were a new phenomenon. I'm standing there with Samantha and I can tell she's excited, happy, and, well, emotional,m - on the verge of tears. Now we can't have her makeup running at this moment! So I suggest we do a selfie together as we wait for the thumbs up. It only takes a few seconds. But it gave her a reason to focus on this pic (I'm about to give her away, remember, so I'm emotional too). She leans in with a huge smile and relief and joy swallow us as we take the picture as I miraculously press the right button on the first try. It's an amazing picture. So, yes, I had the privilege to escort them down the aisle and move their hand from mine to another's. It's a humbling moment. There's a moment a father knows well — standing at the back of a sanctuary with his daughter on his arm, about to walk her down the aisle and present her, radiant and whole, to the joy of the whole room. This is a foretaste of the moment when each of us will walk an aisle with our Father and King to meet Jesus in all his glory. Jude 24 says God will one day “present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy.” Notice whose joy that is. Not just ours — His. The God you've been contending for, the One who kept you the whole way, doesn't grit His teeth at the finish line. He delights to present you. That's where this series lands: you held on, yes — but only because He was holding you, and He was glad to do it the entire time. To Him be glory, majesty, power, and authority. Amen. “without fault and with great joy” Most Christians believe: “God will tolerate me in heaven.” Jude says something entirely different. God will present you: * without fault * before His glorious presence * with great joy And I would emphasize: Whose joy? Certainly ours. But also His. God is not reluctantly dragging His children into heaven. He delights to present them. There is a moment a father knows well—standing at the back of a wedding venue with his daughter on his arm, about to walk her down the aisle and present her, radiant and whole, to the joy of the whole room. Jude says something even greater is coming. One day God Himself will present His children before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy. The God who called you. The God who saved you. The God who kept you. Will be the God who presents you. And when that day comes, you will finally discover what Jude has been teaching all along: You were able to hold on only because He never let go of you. Have you ever taken an organizing personality quiz and wondered if you're really a "visual organizer," a "label lover," or someone who needs everything hidden behind closed doors? While those tools can be fun, what if the most effective organizing advice has less to do with your personality and more to do with timeless principles that work in almost every home? In this episode, I'm sharing 10 organizing principles I've seen work again and again with busy women navigating real life—including caregiving, ADHD, perimenopause, grief, packed schedules, and major life transitions. We'll discuss: ✔ Why you should always remove before you organize ✔ How reducing friction makes systems easier to maintain ✔ The power of grouping like with like ✔ Creating simple zones that support daily life ✔ Why accessibility matters more than perfection ✔ How to stop relying on memory and create trusted systems ✔ Breaking overwhelming projects into manageable steps ✔ Small resets that prevent major organizing setbacks Most importantly, we'll talk about organizing through the lens of Christian stewardship—not creating a picture-perfect home, but creating more capacity for the people, responsibilities, and purpose God has placed in your life. I'm digging into a topic: how to learn to say “no.” Many of us have a lot of trouble knowing how and when to set boundaries, and we end up trying to be super-people and find ourselves exhausted, discouraged, depressed, and ready to quit! Ephesians 2:10 says we are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God ordained in advance for us to do. We are here to work; we are created to bring glory to God through completing the good works he has planned for us to do. Laziness or indifference is never acceptable for a disciple of Jesus Christ. But by the same token, we are in human bodies which have limitations and when we start trying to do things that are not on God's to-do list for us, that's when we get in trouble. In a very helpful booklet entitled “Too Busy? Saying No Without Guilt,” Alice Fryling makes some important observations: “Jesus does not intend for us to carry the heavy burden of ill-fitting good works. If we were to join him at the dinner table, where he did much of his teaching during his life on earth, he might remind us that we do not need to do everything, that burnout is not his idea of obedience and that by God's grace even a little bit goes a long way.” I like her term “ill-fitting good works.” I find I am often self-deceived into taking on too much because what I'm taking on is good. Someone needs to do it; it is not a trivial pursuit. But is it an “ill-fitting good work,” meaning it doesn't fit me? Ms. Fryling goes on to say, “In fact, as we take on Jesus' yoke, we find that the work we are yoked to do has been custom-made for us.” When you are doing those good work, you may get tired, but you won't be overwhelmed. Jesus does not call you to do more than he will equip you to do under an easy yoke. When your “doing” gets to the stage of being a burden, no matter how good it may be, then you have to stop and ask, “Where and when should I say ‘no'?” I would encourage you to think about areas in your life where you have not yet learned to say “no.” Perhaps it is on your job or with your family or friends. If you've allowed yourself to come under a heavy yoke, I urge you to begin the process of saying “no” where you need to.

Do you feel as though you are always carrying a load of responsibilities and work that keep you exhausted and frustrated? If that describes you, it could be because you've never learned how to say “no.” I often think about the difference between my lifestyle and that of my grandmother's. She worked physically harder than I do, I'm sure, but her lifestyle was much simpler. Not easier but simpler. She never drove a car, was never a soccer mom, and had no time for much outside of her home except church. While I wouldn't want to go back to that time, there are things I envy about her lifestyle. Our society has placed a yoke upon us through remote controls, computers, microwave ovens, smart phones, and now AI—to mention a few. As Alice Fryling puts it in her booklet “Too Busy? Saying No Without Guilt”: “Laptops, iPads and cell phones promise an easier life, but in reality they deliver increased stress and pressure. Physicians and psychologists tell us that our bodies are not designed for the constant input of our technological age, for being always ‘on.' We need ‘down' times when our adrenaline can subside, when we can muse and dream and be restored. But the God-given rhythms of day and night, work and rest, have been usurped by technological potential.”[1] Jesus said his yoke is easy and his burden is light. Ask yourself: “Whose yoke am I under: My own self-inflicted yoke of busyness, trying to please people, trying to multi-task and meet all my deadlines, or the yoke of Jesus, which is easy?” That doesn't mean you're never busy or tired; Jesus was often weary from the pressure of people and preaching and healing. But he knew when to say no and when to get away for rest. Learning to say “no” appropriately means learning when you must shut down for some time of restoration—a few hours, a day, a week. And yet, if you're like me, you tend to feel guilty for taking down time when you still have things to do! This is false guilt; we need to recognize it and refuse to be in bondage to it. — [1] Fryling, A. (2002). Too Busy? Saying No Without Guilt [Review of Too Busy? Saying No Without Guilt]. IVP.

Do you have difficulty saying no? Many of us feel obligated to be everything everyone thinks we should be and do everything everyone thinks we should do! For years I thought I was supposed to do whatever anyone asked me to do—period! I can assure you if you think like that, you'll end up in burnout territory, desperately trying to jump through everyone's hoops, and discovering, as you pick yourself up off the floor, you really are not superwoman, and you have to learn to say no. But how—and when? I recently came across a small booklet by Alice Fryling entitled “Too Busy? Saying No Without Guilt.” The title caught my attention, and the content really spoke to me. I want to share some of her insights, as well as my own, if you struggle with how and when to say no. The first lesson to learn is it is okay to say “no.” Jesus said, All you need to say is simply ‘Yes' or ‘No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one (Matthew 5:37). There are times to say “yes” and times to say “no,” and our challenge is to learn the difference. In fact, Jesus told people “no” on several occasions, disappointing some no doubt, perhaps even angering some, and leaving his disciples wondering why. For example, in Luke 12, when a man asked him to settle an argument he was having with his brother, Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” Jesus said “no,” not because he couldn't do it, but because it wasn't what he was called by God to do. We begin with knowing what is our responsibility legitimately and what is not. For example, on your job there are times when you necessarily do things that are not within that job description, but if you are continually doing the work of others or getting side-tracked into projects not your own, you may discover you have difficulty doing what is rightfully expected of you. If this is the case, you need to determine the best way to say “no.” Your approach and choice of words would be critical, but until you learn to say “no,” you'll never bring that job under control.

Aimee unpacks why those two words land so hard — and how Robinson's observation that this urgency serves "inscrutable ends that are utterly not our own" is the quiet crisis underneath hustle culture. [00:02:00] — The Question We're Too Busy to Answer We've all had that moment of clarity — what am I doing this for? — only to immediately rush past it into the next task. Aimee names the pattern: sometimes urgency is more comfortable than sitting with the possibility that all this striving might not actually be for us. [00:03:00] — Henry's Childhood Take on Boredom (Wisdom From the Old Wise Rat) Henry reflects on being a kid who dreaded boredom — and how that boredom turned out to be necessary. The inactivity between moments of play is what made the play so rich. Think of it like the pause between musical notes. [00:05:30] — Aimee's Dollar Ice Cream Cone Moment Aimee connects bike riding to early experiences of autonomy and confidence — biking to the corner store with a dollar felt like being a real adult. A sweet illustration of how unstructured play doubles as a training ground for real-world social skills, self-confidence, and approach behavior. [00:07:00] — Social Media and the Architecture of Joyless Urgency Here's where it gets science-y. Aimee connects the joyless urgency framework directly to how most social media platforms are designed — not to satisfy us, but to keep us in a loop of stimulation and momentary relief. The mechanics: activate anxiety, ease it briefly, activate again. Repeat. Sound familiar? [00:08:00] — Problematic Engagement: What the Research Says Aimee introduces the research concept of problematic engagement — used in studies on social media addiction and gambling — which describes the cycle of engaging with something that momentarily eases dis-ease but ultimately causes harm. Key finding: social anxiety is a primary driver, and these platforms are algorithmically built to exploit it. [00:09:30] — The Most Ironic Research Finding People who believe they have complete control over their social media use — who think they could stop at any time — actually show the most signs of problematic engagement. They're absorbing the most harm while feeling the least concerned about it. [00:10:00] — Dr. Samira Farivar Quote + What We're Up Against Aimee references research by Dr. Samira Farivar: "You can't action a problem you don't even know exists." The platform isn't incidental to the problem — it is the business model. We're not weak for falling into this loop. We're human, and the trap was engineered specifically for us. [00:11:30] — The Simple Truth About Adding More Fun Henry brings it home: adding more fun to life is theoretically simple. If we just slow down enough to let our awareness catch up, we'll almost naturally fill that space with something we enjoy. Kids don't need instructions for fun — and adults don't either, once we clear the noise. [00:13:00] — Listening to the Voice That Wants to Play Henry offers a quiet but urgent reminder: our inner wisdom needs to be heard. If we don't honor it, it either goes silent — or gets louder until we can't ignore it. The invitation is to pause, ask what am I doing?, and actually wait for an answer to surface. [00:14:00] — Play Is an Offensive Strategy Aimee closes the conversation with a reframe: fun and play aren't a retreat from the hard stuff in the world. They're a way of moving through it.   Please remember that this content is for informational and educational purposes only. The Alarming Truth About Modern Day Idols

Uncommen: Man to Man

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 18, 2026 15:23

https://www.uncommen.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/April-18th.mp3 Quick Answers Are my hobbies actually a sin? Absolutely not. Hobbies, sports, and interests are good gifts meant to be enjoyed. The problem arises when these good gifts are elevated to ultimate things. When a hobby dictates your schedule, your finances, and your emotional state more than your relationship with Jesus, it has crossed the line into idolatry. How do I know if I have modern day idols in my life? Look at your schedule and your emotional reactions. If you feel devastated about missing a football game but feel absolutely nothing when you skip your daily Bible reading, your priorities are inverted. Your calendar and your bank statement will always reveal what you truly worship. Do I have to give up the things I love? No, but you have to bring them into submission under Christ. You don't necessarily have to sell your golf clubs or cancel your sports packages, but you must establish firm boundaries. Hobbies should fit into the margins of a life centered on God, not the other way around. What is the "fishing boat" excuse? It is a common justification men use to skip gathering with other believers. Men will say, "I can worship God just fine on my boat or in my deer stand." While God is present in nature, using recreation as an excuse to avoid church community is a clear sign that a hobby has taken the throne. The Subtle Creep of the Weekend Idol When most Christian men hear the word “idol,” their minds immediately jump back to ancient history. We picture the Israelites melting down their jewelry in the desert to forge a golden calf, or we imagine ancient temples filled with statues of wood and stone. Because we don't physically bow down to statues in our living rooms, we falsely assume that we are completely immune to the sin of idolatry. But the human heart is a factory for worship, and the enemy is perfectly content to let us trade golden calves for fiberglass boats, fantasy football rosters, and pristine vinyl record collections. This is the subtle, dangerous reality of modern day idols. They don't announce themselves as false gods. They enter our lives disguised as harmless hobbies, much-needed stress relief, and well-deserved weekend entertainment. You start by just wanting to catch a few football games to unwind after a brutal work week. You start by taking up golf to get some fresh air and network. You start hunting or fishing to find a little peace and quiet away from the noise of the city. These are good, natural desires. But as men, we have a terrible tendency to take things to the absolute extreme. What starts as a simple, relaxing interest slowly begins to demand more of our time, more of our money, and more of our mental bandwidth. Before you know it, you are organizing your entire family's schedule around kickoff times, dropping thousands of dollars on equipment, and spending your Monday mornings completely consumed by your fantasy league standings. The transition is so quiet that you never even realize your hobby has taken the throne of your heart. But make no mistake: anything that commands your greatest loyalty, time, and affection above Jesus Christ is functioning as a god in your life. Defeating modern day idols requires us to drop our defenses and take a brutally honest look at how we are spending the one life God has given us. Examples of Modern Day Idols in a Man's Life If you are looking for examples of modern day idols, you don't have to look very far. You simply need to look at how the average man spends his weekend. As discussed on the Uncommen podcast, the sheer volume of time and resources we dedicate to entertainment is staggering when viewed objectively. Consider the reality of the fall football season. A single NFL or college football game takes roughly three and a half hours to watch. If a man watches a Thursday night game, a college game on Saturday afternoon, a Saturday night prime-time game, two NFL games on Sunday, and Monday Night Football, he has suddenly dedicated twenty to twenty-five hours of his week solely to watching a screen. That is the equivalent of a part-time job. When twenty-five hours are sacrificed to the television, and zero hours are sacrificed to reading God's Word or leading a family devotional, football has officially become one of the most prominent modern day idols in that home. Or consider the massive, dedicated communities built around motorsports and tailgating. Men will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on luxury RVs, burn through weeks of hard-earned Paid Time Off, and completely relocate their lives to a speedway parking lot for two weeks just to watch cars drive in a circle. It is a modern-day pilgrimage. We treat sporting events with the kind of absolute devotion, financial sacrifice, and communal dedication that the early church used to reserve for the Kingdom of God. The danger isn't limited to sports. Modern day idols can be found in the quiet corners of our personal lives. It can be an obsession with building a perfect vinyl record collection, hunting down rare trading cards, or spending endless hours doom-scrolling through YouTube and TikTok videos. It can be the relentless pursuit of lowering your golf handicap while your marriage struggles to survive. The object of the obsession changes from man to man, but the spiritual result is exactly the same: we become spiritually numb, emotionally distant from our families, and completely disconnected from our God-given purpose. The "Fishing Boat" Excuse and the Heart Check When a man's hobbies begin to be challenged by his wife, his pastor, or his brothers in Christ, the immediate response is almost always a defensive justification. "I work hard all week; it's just my thing," we say. Or, we try to spiritualize the hobby to make it untouchable. This is where the infamous "fishing boat" excuse comes into play. A man will skip Sunday morning service for months at a time to go out on the lake, and when confronted, he will say, "I read my Bible while I'm out there. It's just me and the Lord on the boat. That's my worship." While God certainly created the outdoors and we can experience His presence in nature, using a hobby as an excuse to perpetually ditch the gathering of believers is a massive spiritual red flag. It is a convenient lie we tell ourselves to protect our modern day idols. We want the blessings of God without having to submit our schedules to His Lordship. To determine if you are harboring modern day idols, you have to perform a ruthless heart check. Ask yourself this highly revealing question: Do you feel as much conviction and sorrow about missing your daily Bible reading as you do about missing your team's big game? If your DVR fails to record the game, you are furious. You spend the whole day avoiding social media so the score isn't spoiled. But if you go four consecutive days without opening your Bible or spending time in prayer, do you feel any urgency? Do you feel that same level of frustration? Furthermore, if you can readily explain every detail of what happened on last week's episode of Survivor, but you couldn't even summarize the last sermon you heard or name the book of the Bible you are supposedly reading, you have a major priority issue. Modern day idols blind us to our own spiritual starvation. They feed us cheap entertainment while our souls wither away. The Great "I'm Too Busy" Myth The ultimate defense mechanism for a man protecting his modern day idols is the excuse of busyness. When a man is asked to step up and lead—whether it is joining a men's small group, volunteering in the community, or simply dedicating thirty minutes a day to family prayer—the default answer is almost always, “I am just so incredibly busy right now. I don't have the time.” But time is the ultimate lie detector. The truth is, you are never too busy for the things that you truly value. A man will look his pastor in the eye and say he cannot possibly find the time to attend a 6:30 AM Wednesday morning Bible study, but that same man will gladly wake up at 4:00 AM on a Saturday, hitch up a boat, and drive two hours to hit the water before sunrise. A man will say he doesn't have the bandwidth to mentor a younger man, but he will somehow find three hours every single night to grind through video games. You are not lacking time; you are lacking priority. When you take a hard look at your weekly routine, your modern day idols will be glaringly obvious based on where your free hours are spent. We convince ourselves that our busy season just became a busy decade, but when we finally audit our time, we realize we have thrown away thousands of hours on trivial pursuits. Eradicating modern day idols requires us to stop lying to ourselves about our schedules and start taking radical ownership of our daily choices. Practical Steps to Dethrone Your Modern Day Idols It is important to remember that the goal is not to eliminate fun from your life. God designed you to enjoy creation, to experience brotherhood through sports, and to have hobbies that allow you to decompress. The goal is proper alignment. You have to put God at the absolute center of your life and sprinkle your hobbies around Him, rather than putting your hobbies at the center and trying to squeeze God into the leftover cracks. If you are ready to smash the modern day idols in your life, here are three practical Uncommen steps you can take today: 1. Perform a Brutal Time Audit: You cannot manage what you do not measure. This week, check the screen time report on your smartphone. Track exactly how many hours you spend watching sports, gaming, or scrolling. Write the number down. Then, write down exactly how many hours you spent reading Scripture, praying with your wife, and serving your local church. The resulting ratio will expose your modern day idols instantly. Let that conviction drive you to repentance. 2....

And you look at that and you think, well, realistically, how on earth can I copy that process? Because I’m just too busy. I’ve got, you know, work, businesses, family, hobbies, whatever it might be going on in your life. And there’s no way that you are going to be able to afford that time to sit there, either to want to do it or to be able to do it, to sit there watching charts, ready to take little trades every now and then. It’s just not realistic. And of course, many people wake up to that fact and they go, well, looks good and maybe in hindsight, but I just realistically cannot dedicate time to doing this. And even if you could, do I really want to sit there just staring at charts, watching 5 minute charts and 15 minute charts, just waiting for that signal to occur? Probably not, because it’s not realistic and it’s not something you’re going to enjoy and continue to be able to do or want to do long term. So everybody’s got busy lives. I get that. How to trade without taking up too much time. So what can you do to still become a good trader, but to not take up all day? And the very simple solution is you can look at the longer time frame charts such as the weekly charts. Now, just this week, right now is the absolute perfect example. GBP/HKD W1 chart with a 4.8:1 Reward:Risk. At the beginning of this week, we suggested a buy trade to our clients on the GBP/HKD. Now you go and have a look at your weekly charts for the beginning of this week. Go on to the pound Hong Kong dollar and you’ll see the candle setup that I’m taking now. Right now as I’m recording this, the trade has not reached a profit target. But it’s very, very close. It’s only like ten pips away right now. If it hits the full profit target, which it’s almost certainly going to do, especially by the time you watch this and listen to this, the trade’s going to make a massive 4.8 to 1 reward to risk. So if you imagine that at the beginning of this week you saw that trade and you placed, let’s say, a 1% risk on that trade, that’s going to make you an incredible 4.8% gain on your account on the one trade in one week by taking literally, what, ten minutes to scan through the charts, if that, just at the beginning of the week. If you took a half percent risk, that’s going to make you a 2.4%, not a bad gain in one week from a trade that took you like five or ten seconds to actually place, and then you’ve forgotten about it. No more chart watching. You just put the trade on, put your stop loss on, put your profit target on and let the trade do its thing. Let the market do its thing. Now that is a solution for you if you’re short on time. My first ever client trades only Weekly charts. Now, my very first client, and he was the instigator in starting The Forex Trading Coach because he used to buy trading signals from me. And he said, look, Andrew, would you fly across to Australia to come and teach me? And I spent about four or five days with this guy and his family back in 2009, and that is how I started the coaching. And he was just thrilled with the system and thrilled with everything I taught him. And to this day, he is still trading. Now this guy owns a number of restaurants, very high end quality restaurants in Noosa in Australia. And he traded back then the weekly charts and to today he continues to trade just the weekly charts because for him he can have a look at his charts once a week early morning Monday morning in Australia. Or he can, you know, have a few minutes over the weekend because the forex markets are shut of course. And he can have a look through the weekly charts. And by the time the markets open, he can place trades exactly like we’ve just placed on the GBP/HKD. And for the rest of the week, he’s out there running his restaurants and managing staff and happy customers, etc. Look at the charts just once a week. And so that is a very good solution because the weekly charts, of course you need to look just once a week, the quality of the chart trade setups is very, very good. You don’t have to worry about news events or anything like that. Put the trade on, leave the trade to do its thing. Have a look at the end of the week. Do I leave the trade open over the weekend if it’s still going, or do I close it if it’s not already hit the stop loss or profit target? So a great solution for people who maybe are traveling, who have got to run businesses, just too busy to look at charts. Once you understand what you’re doing, you can place trades like the GBP/HKD weekly chart trade and end up, let’s say, with a 1% risk and a 4.8% account gain. Try doing that on many other markets and something that’s taking you such a short amount of time. It's all about knowing what to look for. However, the key to all of this is not how little time you’re going to trade. The key is knowing what to look for. And so the only way you’re going to do that is to spend just a little bit of time upfront and learn to dedicate a bit of time to your knowledge and your education so you have the ability to see these type of trades and to take these type of trades. Book a call with us. Now two things you can do. One, if you’d like to book a call with either myself or the team, I’m going to put a link to our booking account. We have opened up more available time slots, so it’s available to anybody, anywhere around the world. We can give you a call on your home phone number or mobile and have a chat about how we can help you with the trading or see if we can help you with the trading, if it’s going to be a good fit or not. 30 minutes Masterclass. And the other thing you can do is have a look at my 30 minute On Demand masterclass, where I explain all about trades exactly like that GBP/HKD. Show you some trades on the charts of what we’re doing, how we trade, using limit orders, all those type of things that we do in keeping risk low per trade, and of course not spending much time on the charts each day. Blueberry Markets as a Forex Broker. Now, the other thing you can do and do yourself a favor if you’re out there looking for a good broker, is have a look at Blueberry Markets. They offer the MT4 and especially the MT5 trading platform. So you might find some brokers don’t offer markets like the GBP/HKD. But Blueberry Markets on the MT5 platform do. And that’s the beauty of it. You can look for the candle pattern and the chart pattern that is showing you the best setup. It doesn’t matter whether you have any interest in the GBP or the HKD. It doesn’t matter if the technical trade setup is there. See the trade. Take the trade. Profit from the trade. Enjoy your trading. Spend a few minutes once a week on the weekly charts. You’ll find they’re incredibly good. I hope that helps. Like, Share and Subscribe Any questions? Please feel free to reach out. Ask me directly Andrew@TheForexTradingCoach.com If you’re watching, don’t forget to like and subscribe if you’re on YouTube or other social media platforms. And I hope that helps. For anybody that wants to look to trade properly and who feels that they don’t have a ton of time to dedicate to their trading on a daily basis, it’s a great solution. It’s profitable, it’s enjoyable. It’s something you can do just once a week and still trade the markets properly. This is Andrew Mitchem here at The Forex Trading Coach. I’ll see you this time next week. Bye for now. Episode Title: #617: Too Busy to Trade?
