The Parable of the Good Samaritan 25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 26 He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How do you read it?" 27 And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." 28 And he said to him, "You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live." 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" 30 Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Why do women initiate roughly two-thirds of divorces? And how many marriages are ending (not because of adultery, violence, or some unavoidable crisis) but because someone no longer feels in love, feels unhappy, feels unfulfilled, or believes the relationship is no longer meeting his or her emotional needs? Our culture constantly tells us: "Follow your heart." "Trust your feelings." "Do what makes you happy." But the Bible says: "He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool." — Proverbs 28:26 That raises some uncomfortable questions. Are your feelings always telling you the truth? If you genuinely feel something, does that make the feeling right? Should feelings determine whether you stay married? And perhaps most importantly: Can you change the way you feel? In this message I examine research concerning women and divorce, the modern shift toward divorcing over dissatisfaction and "growing apart," and what Scripture teaches about the proper place of emotions in our lives. The answer is not that feelings don't matter. They matter enormously. But that is precisely why they must be governed rather than blindly followed. DISCERN your feelings. Test them by Scripture and sound reason. REJECT wrong feelings. A feeling can be completely genuine - and still be wrong. CHANGE your feelings. You may not be able to immediately command yourself instantly to feel differently, but you can govern what you think about and what you do. Right thoughts and right actions can cultivate different affections. And this applies to men as well as women.

Gospel instalment: 08-16-2026 Sermon Title: 1. Uriah and the letter Text: 2Sam 11 vs 13-27 1. We continue with our 3rd gospel installment /testimony from the story of David, Bathsheba and Uriah. 2. The first 2 attempts by David to get Uriah to go home and be with his wife Bathsheba have miserably failed at this point. 3. Now, he must find a way to settle this scandal and very soon. 4. But in an attempt to cover up the scandal he created yet another bigger scandal. 5. But do not be mistaken and think this is about scandals and love affairs gone wrong. 6. If you do that you have missed the whole story. 7. God knows about the scandals of His creation. He does not need to devote a whole chapter to it. 8. God's interest is the scandal and offense of Christ. This is what this story is about and when you speak of Christ, you must also speak to the Law. And that we shall do and IT IS FREE!

The sinner thinks God is like a human. They believes God will simply forget their sin. They assume God will forget it and not deal with it. But does God overlook sin? Is He not the solemn judge of the heavens and earth? The atheist outright rejects this God and their life is lived accordingly with no contradiction. The atheist believes there is no God and their actions mirror those beliefs. In this sermon on Psalm 50:1–23 titled "Dead Religion," Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones sets forth to express how there is a human worse than the atheist: they claim to believe in God yet lives their life as if there is no God. Exploring Psalm 50:1–23, Dr. Lloyd-Jones explains that this person believes that God is like themselves. They believe that God will not deal with sin and they ignore God's wrath. They deny God's judgement, assuming there is no hell. They minimize their own sin. This error is not simply doctrinal deficiency, but they have made a god in their own image. On the contrary, God wants people to know who He truly is. Listen as Dr. Lloyd-Jones calls the hearer to rightly know God and see His salvation so that Christians may live lives praising and glorifying His name.

God gave man the ability to think and to reason. God did not design man to imagine a world without Him. The fall of man corrupted his mind and heart. Many people imagine a god who is no bigger than their imagination. Because he is an imaginary god, he cannot help them. However, many people are so desperate they imagine they are being helped by their imaginary God.

What is the secret to a life of spiritual longevity? How did saints of old overcome the daily battle of temptation and trouble? In this sermon on Psalm 16:8 titled "… Set the Lord Always Before Me," Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones expounds on this psalm of David to share this secret. It is the daily decision to actively set the Lord always before oneself. This daily spiritual discipline enables the Christian to face the uncertainty of the future without fear as one considers who the Lord is and who they are to Him. Dr. Lloyd-Jones encourages with a gracious reminder that there are two things the Christian can do to "set the Lord before us." First, they must make an active decision to consciously remind themselves of God. It is an act of determination to think on the Lord and what He has done; otherwise their lives will be swept into busyness and God becomes secondary in thoughts and affections. Secondly, after one sets their hearts steadfastly on seeking the presence of God, they turn to the means of communion with God. Christians seek Him through prayer and reading Scripture. They are the means of communing with God on days when one feels like seeking Him as well as the days their hearts feel cold and distant from Him. Find encouragement from Dr. Lloyd-Jones's preaching on David's resolute desire to battle temptation and find comfort in setting the Lord always before him.

They aren't only to be carried out in confident comfort and hope in Christ, but also as you grow in knowledge and trust of your Lord more, as you grasp more about the surety of Jesus' help, protection, and victory, you grow in confident comfort of the benefits of His grace to you.

We are going to drill a little deeper into the third type of soil this morning. For many years I have been fascinated by Jesus' warning against pleasure and money. If ever there were unalloyed goods, pleasure and money are them. Right? Jesus clearly does not think so. And in saying that these things are thorns that choke the word of God and prevent it from growing to maturity in the heart of the Christian, He targets us and our American society. He warns us that worry, wealth, and pleasure are maturity-killers — but by the power of His Spirit, we can fight these things in His strength and see His word grow up to maturity in us.

Paul has just been saying everything works together for good to those who love God, but the Israelites think that they are the people of God. They have been scattered. They have been displaced from the land. A large percentage of them were killed during the Babylonian captivity, so the Jews hearing Paul would say "how can this be?" All things are not working together for good for us. Paul's response after this passage is because the Israel that you are thinking of is not the true Israel. Not all of Israel is of Israel. To set up that statement, he says that he would honestly be separated from Christ if it would cause his brethren according to the flesh to be joined with him. He knows and accepts that God's plan is better, but he mourns according to his wisdom. They had seen the glory of God. They had received the law. They had been assigned to do service to God and been given many promises, but they still rejected Him. But it was not a failure of the word of God, because that was the plan of God from the beginning.

Psalm 84: "How amiable (loved) are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD." Jesus gave us church. It gives God praise. It does us good. God does not think of church as our option. God expects us to do church.

All men live by faith, whether it is faith in the purity of the water we drink or the food that we order at a restaurant. We have faith in the financial institutions. Every day we exercise faith. But for the child of God, spiritual faith is different in that it is supernatural in origin. God is the source of our faith, and living by faith is the key for enduring to the end. Hebrews 11 is often called the "Saint's Hall of Fame" or the "Faith Chapter." I prefer to think of it as the "Roll Call of the Great Cloud of Witnesses" of Hebrews 12:1. In practical terms what is faith, and then what is the outcome of faith. Faith is the "substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Faith imparts certainty, reality to what is invisible. Faith is living in a hope that is so real that it gives absolute assurance. It is living as if the promises of God are present tense, not future. True faith forms the foundation, the basis for life itself! And those who live by faith please God, and receive a good testimony or report card. To please God we must first of all believe that He exists, and then secondly that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. The "great cloud of witnesses" recorded in Hebrews 11 are examples of those who have obtained a good testimony that they pleased God. The just shall live by his faith!

There are two theological terms Christians can struggle with—sovereignty and grace. If we fail to fully grasp grace as the unmerited favor of God bestowed on sinners, we run the risk of thinking grace is somehow earned. On the other hand, if we misunderstand God's sovereignty, we run the risk of thinking it doesn't matter how we live because God is sovereign. Everything we do is foreordained so why does it really matter? This is what Paul is dealing with in this passage, not exactly sovereignty and grace, but he is dealing with closely related concepts—God's faithfulness and justice.

Jesus resurrection is central to true faith. A dead Saviour is no Saviour. Jesus Christ is the Risen Saviour. He needs to be the Lord of those who are saved. God created man unique among His creation. Man was created male and female. He was created after God's image. Man has the ability to reason and think and analyze information. He was created without any inhibitions. The fall changed that.

Jesus was not a spirit being bringing a philosophic teaching to His disciples. He had brought them into fellowship with Himself as the God-Man. He had really granted to them a participation in divine things. He had brought them into the greatness of the reality of fellowship with the Father as well as with Himself. All of this fellowship with God had become so real to the apostles that they had come to have a fullness of joy in this great salvation. And they desired that every reader of this book would have this same assurance as well. So now John begins to tell us what they had been told by the Lord Jesus, as to the nature of God Himself. It was a message of their declared fellowship with the Father and the Son. And so, now, we want to think about this fellowship more closely. 1st of all – It is a fellowship of Light with no darkness at all. 2nd – The apostle's message declares to us that this fellowship forbids lying about the reality of it. And 3rd – The apostle John then proposes to us this truth: That if we will walk in the light as Christ is in the light, we will have fellowship with one another.

Am I Honest with Myself? (Things To Think On Series Part 2) Phil. 4:8&9

This Sunday School lesson examines the jurisdiction and theological implications of 1 Corinthians 1:2, emphasizing that the epistle applies universally to all believers who claim Jesus as Lord. It distinguishes between positional sanctification at salvation and the practical call for Christians to live holy lives distinct from the world. The lesson argues against unrealistic standards for church membership, asserting that God has a greater tolerance for assemblies than we might think, while maintaining their status as churches. The lesson addresses related subjects like the definition of a saint, the necessity of church discipline, and the responsibility of believers to obey their calling to holiness in daily conduct.

Throughout this sermon, Spurgeon complains that he is falling short of the subject which he has taken. I think other preachers, reading and responding to what he says, might long for such a failure as this! The text itself is a casket of pearls, and Spurgeon, after giving us a survey of them, urges us to ponder them more carefully for ourselves: "Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will assuredly plant them in this land, with all my heart and with all my soul." Having considered some of what that means, perhaps the high point of the sermon then comes as Spurgeon considers the fact that this whole-hearted, whole-souled demonstration of practical love comes from the triune God, and is manifest in all the dealings of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Those paragraphs are worth soaking in! Finally, he offers consolation and exhortation to the people of God, as we consider God's heart toward us and examine our own hearts toward him. The whole closes with a heartfelt plea from the preacher for those who do not yet know God's love in this way to come to him and receive all that is held out.
