In Part 1 we started talking about emails that I've been receiving from readers about the weight centric backslide including some initial ways that we can identify the issue and push back. In this episode, we discuss the viral ads of LA mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt, the hurdles Saudi Arabia is facing in its ongoing PR campaign, Ryan Holiday's stoic stumble after comments made by Ivanka Trump about Marcus Aurelius, the woman who creates most of Donald Trump's late-night tweets/posts, robot dogs in Japan and more.
I've received a lot of reader emails like the one below from reader Jeannie.I feel like I'm seeing so many people, including dietitians and doctors, who used to be staunchly non diet getting back on the weight loss bandwagon. Suddenly they're all “you can fight weight stigma and promote weight loss” and “o-word is a metabolic disease” - and “use people first language” and it's like they were claiming to be non diet but it was only because they didn't think they could shrink us but now they think these drugs can and they are showing their true (anti fat) colors and people (including doctors) I thought respected me and believed in non diet care are showing me that they've always thought I would be better thin, or that my fatness is a disease, they just didn't think they could make me thin (or not “diseased”) and now they do. Is there anything we can do to fight against this? Get full access to Weight and Healthcare at weightandhealthcare.substack.com/subscribe

Why do some believers fall away from the faith even when starting strong? In this episode of Kitchen Table Theology, Tiffany and Pastor Jeff walk through Luke 14:28–35, where Jesus calls His followers to stop, think, and count the cost of discipleship. Jesus makes clear that following Him is not a casual decision but a lifelong commitment. We discuss why public identification with Christ carries real responsibility, how inconsistency undermines Christian witness, and why Jesus' hard words are meant to bring clarity rather than fear. This episode challenges believers to examine whether their faith is merely a label or a lived reality and encourages listeners to choose a faith that lasts and finishes well. What We Discussed:02:10 Counting the CostJesus' command in Luke 14 is framed as a call to pause, reflect, and understand that discipleship is a serious, intentional commitment, not an emotional decision.03:45 The Danger of Starting Strong Without Finishing WellUsing the illustration of an unfinished building, the episode explains how public profession without perseverance leads to inconsistency and damages Christian witness.05:40 Discipleship Is a Life, Not a LabelFaith is described as more than identification. True discipleship reshapes priorities, obedience, and daily living, not just belief.10:50 What Jesus Meant by “Deny Yourself”Jesus' call to take up the cross is unpacked as surrendering control, ambition, and self-rule in exchange for faithful following.12:40 Understanding the Warning About Flavorless SaltJesus' illustration of salt losing its usefulness is explained as a warning about wasted spiritual influence, not the loss of salvation.14:10 Judgment for Believers and Eternal RewardWe discuss the evaluation of a believer's life at the judgment seat of Christ, where faithfulness and obedience are assessed.15:45 Don't Waste Your LifeDiscipleship is framed as living with eternal purpose, building with lasting materials rather than shallow or temporary commitments.“Discipleship isn't about momentary enthusiasm. It's about public identification and lifelong loyalty to Christ.” - Pastor Jeff Cranston

This episode takes an honest look at a topic rarely discussed anymore—backsliding. Bucky explains what spiritual decline is, why it happens, and how believers can return to a close walk with Jesus. You'll learn the subtle stages of drifting, the difference between false and true repentance, and the hope God offers to every believer who turns back to Him. If you feel distant from God—or if your spiritual life has grown dull—this message will help you find your way back.

Feeling like you're running on empty, no matter how hard you try to have it all together? Fresh from an inspiring BOLD retreat in Asheville, NC, today I'll share the real reason high-achieving women like us keep slipping back into burnout, even after we swear we've got it handled. It's not about willpower or your to-do list. Burnout is actually a biological loop that our bodies get stuck in, especially when the pace never seems to let up. I'll walk you through the hidden mental loads we carry and why recovery needs to be built into our rhythm, not just crammed in when we're desperate for a break. You'll hear my top three strategies for breaking free from the burnout cycle and creating a life with energy, joy, and true freedom. This episode is your invitation to a new chapter, to make room for brilliance—and finally normalize rest, reclaim your rhythm, and enjoy what you're working so hard to build! I was absolutely thrilled to welcome Nora Dahlia back to Books are Chic to celebrate her latest romance, Backslide! Set across dual timelines, this novel takes us back to one of my favorite decades — the unforgettable '90s.Backslide follows Nellie and Noah, high school sweethearts who reunite years later at a "wedding re-do" for mutual friends. As old sparks reignite, they discover the past isn't as far behind them as they thought. It's a beautifully written second-chance romance that's emotional, nostalgic, and completely unputdownable.Nora and I caught up since our last Lovestruck Books event (next one—10/27!!) and dove into how her travel writing shaped this story, what it was like growing up in NYC as a teen in the ‘90s, pop culture, romance, and so much more. This episode is easily one of my all-time favorites—a love letter to your teen self, the ‘90s, and pure nostalgia.

No Christian ever plans on backsliding, that is, moving away from Christ. Yet it happens. The prophet Jeremiah even admitted, “Our backslidings are many” (Jeremiah 14:7). Sometimes, a city can be in shambles because the lives of its people are in shambles. Nehemiah left Jerusalem for a short time and returned to find the people had gone back to practicing their old ways. Let's consider four mistakes they made and how to prevent them from happening to us.I. Misplace Your Bible (vv. 1-3)II. Misalign Your Companions (vv. 4-9)III. Misarrange Your Priorities (vv. 10-22)IV. Mismanage Your Family (vv. 23-24)Talk with God: Prayerfully consider the people you turn to for encouragement and advice. Are you surrounding yourself with strong, healthy believers who will sharpen you (see Proverbs 27:17) and urge you to grow in your faith?Talk with others: Ask a believing friend or mentor to hold you accountable to pray and spend time in the Word daily as you recommit to a habit or create a new one.Talk with kids: How did Gideon test God's words?
When platforms profit over people, communities pay the price. In the latest episode of Latinas from the Block to the Boardroom, Theresa E. Gonzales speaks with Nora Benavidez, a Civil Rights and Free Speech Latina attorney fighting for free expression and tech accountability. While Big Tech spends $61.5M on lobbying to avoid this accountability, Nora is using civil rights law to fight back and won her groundbreaking PEN America v. Trump victory to exposing the "Big Tech Backslide" that eliminated 17 safety policies right before the 2024 election. She is the ONLY LATINA proving that strategic legal action that can challenge even the most powerful tech giants. Nora shares how she went from law school—where no one looked like her—to the ACLU and now Free Press, shaping policy around misinformation and civil rights. Her Big Tech Backslide report exposes how companies like Meta, X, and YouTube rolled back critical trust and safety policies despite public promises. Finally, we dive into Section 230, the law that shields platforms from liability while still enabling harm, yet we are still protected by this from our 1st Amendment rights. She is a contributing writer for Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, CNN, and Tech Policy Press. Her expertise and commentary is regularly featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, CNN, NBC, Fox News, The Los Angeles Times, and other publications. Join us on Latinas from the Block to the Boardroom as we amplify Latine and community voices, through their stories of perseverance, and having the courage to believe in your pursuit of your dream. Let's take control of our narratives, discuss pathways to higher education, empower community with technology, to inspire future generations. Host & Executive Producer Theresa E. Gonzales discusses everything from the our representation in tech industry, healthy communities, change makers of non-profits, education and small business journeys, through intergenerational conversations with unapologetic banter tochange the status quo. “Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.” (Philippians 1:27 NLT) Revival is necessary because sometimes our Christian faith becomes routine. It loses its spark. If this “routineness” continues, it can lead to backsliding—that is, a turning away from God and His will to pursue the pleasures of this world. If you’ve experienced it or seen it happen firsthand, you know that backsliding doesn’t happen overnight. You don’t call up your mature Christian friend and say, “Hey, do you want to backslide tonight? Seriously? Okay, I’ll pick you up at seven.” Backsliding usually starts with tolerating something that’s sinful, something you never would have gone near before. Maybe it’s curiosity, maybe it’s the influence of other people, but instead of rejecting it out of hand and making sure to avoid it, you open your mind to it. You sort of put up with it and maybe even play around with it, thinking, “This isn’t going to hurt me. I’m too strong, too mature in my faith. I’ve walked with the Lord for a long time. I could recite a half dozen Bible verses about resisting temptation and making wise decisions.” All the while, the devil is grinning as he watches you justify your shift in thinking and blur some of the lines you previously refused to cross. And then he does whatever he can to facilitate the process. Feeding the urge to backslide is one of his most potent battlefield maneuvers. Have you ever seen a baby rattlesnake? As you would imagine, it has little fangs and a little tail and a little rattle. You might even call it cute if you’re into that sort of thing. Until it bites you. Did you know that the venom of a baby rattlesnake is more potent than that of an adult rattlesnake? In the same way, the subtle shifts away from God and His will may seem harmless at first. Backsliding starts with accommodating. You turn a blind eye to something. Then you give in to it and legitimize it. And then you start making excuses for it and defending it. The next thing you know, you embrace it as a normal lifestyle. But that’s not the behavior of a real saint, of a real follower of Jesus. If you want to finish well in the race of life and live joyfully, if you want God to complete the work He has begun in you, then you need to press on as a follower of Christ. He will give you the strength to do it. But you need to ask for that strength every day. Reflection question: What are you being tempted to turn a blind eye to? Everyone Sheevaun Moran here Driving For Your Success and today's topic is contentism it's a made-up word I get it but you know maybe you've made a big leap in your business or maybe you've made a big leap in the way you think you've made a big leap in a relationship or exiting a relationship you've made a big leap and you just want to sit back and be content. Maybe you had a big windfall with clients and then you want to sit back and you're content with enough maybe you're content with the way things have gotten and that's okay that's truly okay. However, if you have a business to be content is to really doing things in a way that is much more difficult that takes you longer and keeps you in a problem and having less clients than you potentially can and so contentism is being okay with putting your head in the sand around money. Being okay with putting your head in the sand around time being okay with not knowing how a business is going to grow, if you need a particular amount for your income then what you need to do is be discontent to get the result. And discontent does not mean anything other than you taking action to be content to get to that next step so contentism is when you're not taking action toward what it is you said you want you're content and you're uncomfortable and you're content is um yet you're not willing to be a little uncomfortable to get to that next place so are you in contentism and are you playing a game in your head around being in contentism. So my encouragement to you today is look at where you're doing this in your life because as We Know this is you do one thing how you do one thing is how you do everything if you are just being content with one thing it is going to permeate and settle everywhere I know that a lot of people are still dealing with Covid pounds and it's because we got content with not moving we got put into a place where we couldn't move and so we got content and so our bodies aren't as healthy as we want them to be are you content that our finances are being dictated based upon what they're saying in the News, That's contentism. So rise above, that's the message rise above your contentism and do something amazing to get the result that you want.
