Guest preacher Tim Pillsbury offers a timely assessment of the essential nature of prayer, framed by Jesus' prayer in Gethsemane and His "inner circle" of disciples' struggle to "keep watch".
Join us as we follow Jesus and His disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane, where the shadow of the cross falls heavily upon the Son of God. After the Passover, Jesus leads His disciples out of Jerusalem, across the Kidron Valley, and up the Mount of Olives to this familiar olive grove. In the darkness of night, we witness the most intense spiritual battle of His earthly life. The hymn has been sung. The meal is finished. The hour has come. Jesus knows exactly what awaits Him—betrayal, abandonment, scourging, and the cross. Yet He does not run. He walks deliberately into the place where Judas will find Him. In this garden we see three powerful realities that must shape every believer's life: submission, anguish, and watchfulness. These are not abstract ideas. They are lived out before our eyes in the prayers of our Savior and the failure of His closest friends. Let us walk through these events together and learn what it truly means to watch and pray.

Caleb Drahosh As Jesus enters Gethsemane, the hour of His death is near. He tells His disciples to sit and pray, and takes Peter, James, and John into the garden further. There He tells them to watch. They fall asleep. He tells them to watch again. They fall asleep again. The time is now. Judas came with a crowd to arrest Jesus. The shepherd is stuck and the sheep scatter. Often our intent is to follow Jesus, but our flesh desires comfort and when difficulty comes, we respond wrongly.

As we continue to recover from the winter storm that affected northeast Mississippi, we're grateful for your patience and prayers. We didn't want to leave you without encouragement this week, so we're returning to the second episode in our series on John Owen's Mortification of Sin, originally published on October 20, 2022. We trust the Lord will use it again to strengthen and steady your walk. Robert Murray M'Cheyne described the human heart as gunpowder and temptation as a spark that will ignite the heart in sin. The most careful practice we can have is to keep our hearts damp by gazing upon Christ. In this week's episode, John Snyder and Jeremy Walker share how Owen encourages us to keep our hearts damp by the dual command to watch and pray. What must we watch for? How must we pray? John and Jeremy share some of the most practical help from Owen in this week's episode. "And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye beguiled us, saying, We are very far from you; when ye dwell among us?" (Joshua 9:22).
We have entered into a new season, a new year, and hopefully with a renewed mind. The things of the old will not work in this new season. For there is a shift that is taking place, and we must adhere to the Holy Spirit's unctioning. We cannot afford to ignore, overlook, or disregard His voice. We must hearken unto His Holy Word, and embrace His Holy Will. If not, the burden of disobedience will be too great and our reward will be that which we have sown. Yet, there is hope! Hope and confidence that living for Jesus yields abundance in every aspect of our lives. For every day is a blessing, and every opportunity we are given should prompt us to walk the path He has laid before us.

Peaceful sleep is a gift from God—but there are moments when slumber becomes dangerous. In this Advent sermon, Rev. David Buchs reflects on Saint Peter's urgent call to be stirred up, awakened from spiritual drowsiness to watch, wait, and live in hope as the Day of the Lord approaches. Far from fear-driven urgency, this wakefulness is grounded in God's patience, mercy, and promise of a new creation.Wednesday, December 17 | Grace Lutheran Church, Little Rock, Arkansas | 2 Peter 3Key themes include: • God's patience as salvation, not delay • Spiritual wakefulness in a world of scoffing and distraction • Living holy and hopeful lives while waiting for Christ's return • The promise of renewal: new hearts, new creation, lasting joy#StirUpOurHearts #AdventSermon #DayOfTheLord #SecondPeter #ChristianSermon#JesusChrist #ChristianPodcast #BiblicalTeaching #FaithAndHope#GraceLutheranLittleRock #LittleRockChurch #ArkansasFaith #LutheranSermon#WaitingOnTheLord #NewHeavensNewEarth

If you would like additional information, books, or if you would like to make a love donation; please visit us at https://www.walkinginpower.orgThis theological discussion meticulously examines Revelation Chapter 4, interpreting it as a depiction of the heavenly tabernacle and its relation to end-times prophecy, particularly the Rapture. Bern argues against a single, pre-tribulation rapture for the entire church, suggesting a possible early rapture for the obedient, committed believers (the "Philadelphiaian church") before the Day of Wrath begins, based on scriptural commands to "watch and pray." However, the text assures that all born-again believers, even the lukewarm (the "Laodicean church"), will be taken before the end of the Tribulation. Finally, the vision of God's throne in Revelation 4, complete with a circular, emerald rainbow representing an unending, life-giving covenant, is revealed to be a glimpse of the heavenly tabernacle, with elements like the sea of glass and the 24 elders mirroring the Old Testament's sanctuary and its priesthood.

[Matthew 26:36-41] Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” [37] He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. [38] Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” [39] Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” [40] Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn't you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. [41] “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Watch: to give strict _______________ to, be cautious. [1 Peter 5:8-9] Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. [9] Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. If you don't watch where you are going you are destined to _______________! [2 Corinthians 2:11] in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. Don't be caught off guard by the ______________ that come at you. Battles are won before they are even ______________. When we fall into sin it is because we ____________ to watch and pray. The secret to ______________ over sin is to watch and pray. [1 Corinthians 10:12-13] So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! [13] No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. The way out doesn't help if you don't ____________ it.

By Ken Loucks - What did Jesus mean when He said “Watch therefore, and pray always, that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things” (Luke 21:36)? On this episode of Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we confront the horrific attack at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. The shooter, Robert “Robin” Westman, once walked those same halls as a student. Years of unchecked mental illness and spiritual rebellion ended in bloodshed.America is in denial. We refuse to face the truth: the transgender movement is built on a Satanic lie. No one can change the sex God gave them. Pretending otherwise doesn't heal broken souls, it destroys them and puts others in danger.Christians must speak plainly. Love does not mean affirming sin or confusion. Love means pointing people back to Christ, who alone gives us our identity. Until our nation repents and turns back to God, tragedies like this will only increase.Pray for the victims and their families.--https://policecoffee.com/collections/coffee
