When we delve into the concept of fashion circularity, we encounter a profoundly intricate and often daunting challenge. However, hope is on the horizon thanks to the visionary efforts of Stuart Ahlum and the remarkable team at SuperCircle and Thousand Fell. Stuart's career has been marked by an unwavering commitment to transparency and recyclability within the fashion realm. What began as a footwear venture dedicated to crafting fully recyclable shoes has evolved into SuperCircle, a company at the forefront of reshaping how the fashion industry views its inputs, outputs, and circular processes. Collaborating with some of the industry's leading companies, Stuart and his team are revolutionizing sustainability in fashion. It's not a straightforward journey, but that's precisely what makes it circular.
SuperCircle, a textiles recycling startup, has cracked the circular economy code for fashion brands. Meet the cofounders, Chloe Songer and Start Ahlum, who cofounded SuperCircle, which provides clothing takeback and recycling services to leading clothing brands, including tentree, Reformation, Mate the Label, and the circular sneaker brand Thousand Fell, which they also cofounded in 2018. SuperCircle launched in 2022 to a massive problem, managing recycling logistics and textiles processing for the retail industry. The company recycled more than 700,000 garments last year using new sorting steps and technologies to separate organic and synthetic fabrics and identify items that can be resold. Launched in 2019, Thousand Fell created a line of sustainably sourced and recyclable sneakers. They then launched tech platform SuperCircle, whose mission is to close the loop in the waste management industry and eliminate post-consumer clothing waste. Tune in to hear more about how Stuart and Chloe are working to make the world better. This episode was mixed and produced by Daniel Reza

Chloe Songer is the co-founder of Thousand Fell, the New York-based sneaker company which offers a line of biodegradable shoes to promote circularity, with the goal of changing how footwear is both produced and consumed. Before coming up with the idea of Thousand Fell in 2018, Chloe spent time in retailer Gap's Rotational Management Program program, learning about innovative ways to create fabrics. She saw firsthand how companies manufacture their goods and how technology has become so advanced that there is no reason to make products that don't prioritize sustainability anymore. Chloe speaks to host Eva Hartling about the benefits of working for big players early in one's career, the power of networking and the reality of raising capital as a female founder. EEEEEK! I am shocked that I am sharing this episode, it's the most special one yet - meet Amber Grubenmann, the host of the Women's Dating & Confidence Podcast. I found Amber's podcast in December of 2019, when I was in a toxic and unhealthy relationship/situation with someone. It was such a surreal experience to have her on my own podcast a year later! This is the second half of our in-depth conversation with Thousand Fell (@thousand_fell) co-founders, Chloe Songer and Stuart Ahlum. They continue taking us behind the scenes, from packaging design and the worthwhile pursuit of the right materials, to the core values guiding them every step of the way.
Shoes are arguably the most difficult fashion item to make even before you attempt to make them in a way that is simultaneously durable, affordable, and sustainable, but Thousand Fell's founders, Chloe Songer and Stuart Ahlum, (@Thousand_Fell) were ready to change the game. In a special two-part conversation, they share with us their background in training programs with international brands and manufacturers, and their commitment to ushering in the future of sustainable footwear with ingenuity and heart.
on this episode of the show, we're lucky enough to sit down with chloe songer and stuart ahlum, co-founders of thousand fell, the NYC-based sustainable shoe brand. these days, it seems like the word 'sustainability' gets tossed around in business pretty often. any brand can talk the talk, but its a lot tougher to show instead of tell. we were lucky enough to host two founders who walk the walk. with a zero-waste ethos, thousand fell sets the standard for new sustainability in the shoe game. we catch up with stuart and chloe to discuss the future of the closed loop, where the sneaker scene is headed, and the road to creating a company with a visible impact. enjoy the show!

TRANSCRIPT: From the Princeton Entrepreneurship Council, this is the Princeton Spark. I'm Wright Seneres. The various people that make up the Princeton entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem have long been at work, taking risks to bring transformational ideas and companies to the world, in the Nation's Service and the Service of Humanity. These are the stories of Entrepreneurship the Princeton Way. At PEC, we support Princeton-connected startups and help to build the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem in New Jersey and beyond. In our series-opening three episodes, we are exploring three important aspects of entrepreneurship. If you haven't heard the first episode on taking risks, or the second episode on thriving under uncertainty, they are available now at princetonspark.com or wherever you get your podcasts, so please check them out. It's a widely held notion that most startups fail. Depending on whom you ask, it's somewhere between 50 to 90 percent. That's a lot. But it's also a common phrase that investors like to back the jockey, not the horse. That is to say, the person and team executing the idea can be more important than the idea itself. In this episode of the Princeton Spark, we will talk to entrepreneurs who quote-unquote failed in their first startups. They got back on the entrepreneurial horse, and now are on to their next startups and endeavors. We'll explore how they persisted through failure, on their way to success. Our first one today is Stuart Ahlum. My name is Stuart Ahlum, I'm Princeton class of 2013. I'm an entrepreneur, and I run a company called Thousand Fell. Stuart is the co-founder of Thousand Fell, a completely circular and sustainable sneaker company. His first startup, a sneaker company called House of Future, received an investment from the Princeton Alumni Entrepreneurs Fund in 2017. Normally, after funding from Princeton in the form of AEF, a company would be on their way. Fast forward a year, and Stuart wound up leaving House of Future. During our interview, he wasn't able to get into the specifics of why he left. But more importantly, he could talk about what he learned from the process. I think when you're in it, and when things aren't going well, it feels like an epic failure. And it's hard to separate yourself, you're so close to these projects, you're pouring all of your time and energy into it. And it's hard to take a step back. I think what I've learned is when I've kind of cleared those hurdles, and finished with projects, we've finished with companies, and had an opportunity to sort of really decompress and figure out what I've learned. It's just fantastic learning opportunities. And you're able to
