Letting Yourself Down: Thinking of Others – DON'T Do you put everyone else first? Always there for family, friends, even the ones who don't always treat you right? That's an incredible value to have — being dependable, supportive, and accountable. But here's the truth: when you constantly put others before yourself, you're letting yourself down. And when you let yourself down, you let everyone down. In this episode, I'll guide you through a simple but powerful exercise to uncover your core life values — the foundation of who you are. Once you know your top three, you'll understand how to live in alignment with them, stay true to yourself, and actually be a stronger support for those you care about. This isn't about being selfish. It's about knowing who you are, standing on that rock-solid foundation, and being accountable to you. From there, everything else — your goals, dreams, relationships — falls into place. Listen in and find out: Why putting others first can actually let them down. How to discover your top three life values. How living by those values makes you the best version of you. Why accountability starts with yourself — or it doesn't work at all. It's time to stop letting yourself down. Build your foundation. Live your values. And only then, lift up others. Let's share this with others https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/460-letting-yourself-down-thinking-of-others-dont And there is a video of this too https://youtu.be/yRgclkZ-GgA Shine Brightly
Spicing Up Success Ever wondered why some goals feel like a slog while others seem to flow? In this 5-minute quickie, I dive into Neville Goddard's powerful idea of the feeling of the wish fulfilled—and then I take it further. What if you didn't just imagine the emotion of achieving your dream… but also stepped into the psychology and physiology of already having it? How would you breathe, walk, talk, and think if your goal was done and dusted? This is more than just motivation—it's how you train your unconscious mind to notice opportunities, attract success faster, and build unstoppable inner confidence. So if you're ready to achieve your dreams quicker, richer, and with more certainty—hit play. And if you know someone chasing their goals, share this with them. It might be exactly the nudge they need.
In this provocative episode of "Kingly Conversations," the hosts ask the question: Are you racist?. They dive headfirst into a heated debate over the definition of racism and whether Black people can be racist.Calvin argues that racism is a mindset of hatred or a belief in one's racial superiority, which means anyone from any race can be racist, regardless of their position in society. He challenges the idea that power is a necessary component of racism.Pushing back, Alan and Zoe contend that racism requires systemic power to marginalize and oppress others. They argue that while Black people can be prejudiced, they lack the institutional control necessary to be racist in America. The discussion explores the historical systems designed to subjugate people, the difference between racism and prejudice, and a hypothetical look at what might happen if the power dynamics in society were reversed. We are just three guys with three different takes on life, love, business, sex, and politics. Today Ali asks Asif about the new ‘Superman' movie by James Gunn, which Asif saw recently (1:11). After Asif gives his near spoiler-free review, he then gives Ali a quiz on all things Superman. Then in the second half, Ali asks Asif about genes that can give people “superhuman” powers (22:56). Asif talks about tetrachromacy, where people have an extra type of cone cell in their retina. He then goes over LRP5 mutations which in theory can give unbreakable bones (but which can also cause some other unwanted side effects). Asif follows this up by discussing how the same genetic mutation which causes red hair may also give people increased pain tolerance. Finally Asif discusses how a certain genetic mutation (DEC2) can result in people needing less sleep. Today, Ali and Asif discuss comedian and podcaster Andrew Schulz (1:05). They start off by taking about Schulz' early life, his start in comedy and his successful podcasts. They then go into detail about a fascinating interview he did with the New York Times (and argue quite a bit about it). They then give their thoughts on Andrew's most recent special “Life”. Male infertility is a major topic in “Life” so in the second half, Ali asks Asif about this topic (35:25). Asif goes over what infertility is and how often it is due to male factors. He then goes of the long list of potential causes and how it is investigated. Finally, Ali asks Asif about treatment for male infertility. Kindness: The Next Superpower Hey my friend—kindness… a superpower? Really? In this longer, deeper episode of the Personal Development Unplugged Podcast, Cloughie explores why kindness is one of the most underrated forces for change—inside and out. In a world that feels increasingly self-centred, reactive, and short-tempered, a simple act of kindness can disrupt the noise and spark real transformation. This is part personal confession (yes, Cloughie admits to being “a bit of a dick”), part gentle wake-up call, and 100% full of practical reflections to help you become more self-assured and more connected to those around you. What you'll discover: Why kindness isn't weakness—it's proof of deep inner strength The surprising return on investment of a small act of kindness How to shift from frustration to compassion (even in traffic!) Why you sometimes forget your own kindness—and how to bring it back to mind A reminder to start by being kind to yourself, because that's where it all begins How kindness feeds into your personal goals and dreams—if you choose to include it You'll also be invited to: Reflect on the kindness you've received and how it shaped you Review your day for simple “kindness moments” (smiles count!) Set an intention to actively make the world a better place—starting today This episode isn't fluffy—it's practical. It's a reminder that we don't need to wait for the world to change. Ali recently taught a class on “acting for the screen” at Queen's University, so in our first half Asif asks him about this (1:24). They discuss how he was approached to teach this class as well as his IMDB resume. Asif asks about how Ali structured the class, ‘scene study', filming auditions and the main take-home “tips” for screen acting. Then, they discuss the mysterious New Brunswick neurological illness which has been in the news as of late (39:28). Asif talks about how the cases were initially described by a single neurologist in New Brunswick and the subsequent investigation into the cases. He then goes over a recent research article which essentially found that there was no mystery – the patients examined actually all had known neurologic diseases. They discuss how the initial doctor and many of his patients are still convinced they have an undiagnosed neurologic illness; Asif then discusses why this might be as well as cognitive biases in medicine. Because Ali and Asif have been travelling a lot in the past few months, the guys chat about their favourite in-flight entertainment (5:17). They start off by talking about their typical “rituals” when flying. Then the guys discuss their go-to “comfort watches” when flying. They review movies and shows they have watched recently when flying. Finally, the guys each list their favourite movies related to air travel. Then, Ali asks Asif about in-flight medical emergencies (31:41). Asif describes how commonly these emergencies occur and what the most common types of emergencies are. He talks about what medical equipment is available on a plane and then discusses whether medical personnel have an ethical obligation to volunteer to help. Finally Asif tells a few stories about his physician friends who volunteered to aid in in-flight emergencies. Today, Asif asks Ali about Ali co-starring in the CBC Gem TV show ‘You're My Hero' (2:21). Ali talks about how he was offered the role and co-starring with professional wrestler Chris Jericho. They talk about creator Sean Towgood, “disabled” vs “differently abled” and the (lack) of representation of people with disabilities on television. Asif then gives his thoughts on the show and the cast (Spoiler: he liked it!). In ‘You're My Hero', the main character has cerebral palsy due to lack of oxygen to the brain at birth, so in the second half of the episode, Ali asks Asif about this (27:00). Asif explains the different terminology used – including the medical term “hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy”. He then goes over how common it is and the underlying causes. Ali then asks Asif about how it is diagnosed, the different ranges of severity and the tests that can be done to diagnose it. Father's Day, as celebrated in the United States, largely originated from the efforts of Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington. Inspired by a Mother's Day sermon in 1909 and wanting to honor her own father, a Civil War veteran who raised six children as a single parent, Dodd campaigned for a similar observance for fathers. The first Father's Day celebration was held on June 19, 1910, in Spokane. While it gained some momentum and presidential support over the years from figures like Woodrow Wilson and Calvin Coolidge, it wasn't until 1972 that President Richard Nixon officially signed it into law, designating the third Sunday in June as a permanent national holiday. We are just three guys with three different takes on life, love, business, sex, and politics. Today, Asif and Ali discuss the career of the legendary singer Billy Joel (1:08). They start off by discussing his accolades, how Joel is compared to his contemporaries and his early years. They then discuss some of his seminal songs that Ali and Asif experienced growing up, including ‘Vienna', ‘Piano Man', ‘My Life', ‘Uptown Girl', and ‘We Didn't Start the Fire'. Then the guys each list their favourite Billy Joel songs. Joel recently cancelled several tour dates due to normal pressure hydrocephalus, so in the second half, Ali asks Asif about this disorder (31:06). Asif describes what it is and how it differs from hydrocephalus in children. He describes the symptoms, the causes and how common it is. Then, Asif reviews how it is diagnosed and treated. What if it were your first? This is an extract from a live Q&A call I did for my son's (Joseph Clough) Mind Mastery group, and invite you to reflect, respond, and explore what really matters in your life. It's not heavy or dark—it's a spark. A chance to wake up to what you're doing with your time and how you want to live going forward. What you'll discover in this episode: The power of writing letters of love and gratitude—and who they need to be sent to. How small acts of kindness help shape the legacy you're already leaving behind. Why waiting for “someday” is a trap—and how to flip into action now. How to live with intention and awareness, instead of drifting on autopilot. A simple, powerful way to visualise your best self—and take the first steps to becoming them. You'll hear honest conversation, real moments with listeners, and practical insights that can shift your perspective in just one listen.
