Grandpa Bill updates New upcoming topics, guests, and revisiting "Ask The Doc" with Dr. Jeff Fineman Grandpa Bill Look Up in The Sky It's A bird It's a Plane No It's Not Superman! Cyberspace Security: A Never Ending Quest (Past, Present, and Future) The Past: Wild West of the Web Grandpa Bill reviews and asks: Imagine a time before firewalls, where the nascent internet resembled the Wild West. The 1980s and 1990s saw the rise of basic cyber threats like viruses and worms, targeting early computer systems. Basic security measures like strong passwords and basic firewalls were the first lines of defense. The Present: Evolving Threats, Evolving Solutions Today, cyberspace is a complex ecosystem. Sophisticated cybercriminals, state-sponsored actors, and even hacktivists pose diverse threats. The landscape is littered with malware, ransomware, phishing scams, and zero-day exploits targeting everything from personal devices to critical infrastructure. Our defenses have grown too, with advanced encryption, intrusion detection systems, and incident response teams on the front lines. The Future: A Continuous Arms Race The future of cyberspace security is an ongoing arms race. As technology advances, so will the ingenuity of cyber attackers. Artificial intelligence (AI) will likely play a significant role on both sides, with attackers using AI to develop more sophisticated attacks and defenders leveraging AI for threat detection and automated responses. New Careers on the Horizon????? Adah's Summer Internship a Topic for exploration. Security Architects: Design and implement secure IT infrastructures. Cloud Security Specialists: Secure cloud-based systems and data. Threat Intelligence Analysts: Research and identify potential cyber threats. Incident Responders: Handle security breaches and mitigate damage. You either dream of it, dread it, run from it, or hide, but eventually, most everyone has to do it at some point. That's right, I'm of course talking about becoming an intern. At the City of Auburn last summer, about a dozen youths were interns across the city, including our guest Sean Jellison. Sean interned in the Parks, Arts and Recreation department and afterward was hired on part-time to help with outdoor events. Sean sits down with Chester and Jonathan to talk about the process, how to best other interns at a game of quidditch, and how the 2013 comedy "The Internship" was made about 8 years too late.

You got a summer internship congratulations! But how do you turn it into a full time job? Here is thing that if you do will practically guarantee you get the offer!! #1. Understand how you are being measured. Have a clear understanding of what your Key Performance indicators (KPIs) are. #2 Have bi-weekly check up calls with your manager Make sure you and your manager are on the same page. Review your KPIs and make sure you are doing a great job #3 Network with as many people as possible Make it a goal to grab lunch or a zoom call with at least 2 new people a week. Keep a record of each call and make sure you keep the conversation going. #4 Be a leader among your peers You don't need a title to be a leader. Volunteer to help organize event for the interns and show your leadership skills # 5 Ask for the full time job Don't be afraid to communicate with your manger and HR that you are looking to build a career with the organization. Ask them what do you need to do in order to get the full time offer. At the end of the day it is in the companies best interest to give it to you! If you want to learn more about these steps check out the latest episode of the How to get a job podcast where I dive into each step in more detail.
