In a digital era where content is king and data is the new oil, businesses grapple with the challenge of intelligently connecting these invaluable assets. In the next episode of Tech Talks Daily Podcast, I engage in a candid conversation with Tim Hood, VP for EMEA & APAC at Hyland, a company at the forefront of crafting technology foundations that empower over half of the Fortune 100 companies. With 15 years in content management and a formidable track record of expanding Hyland's European team from 48 to over 600, Tim brings an unmatched depth of insight into content management and digital transformation. Our discussion starts by tackling the age-old frustrations of legacy systems— their inflexibility, growing obsolescence, and widening performance gaps. Tim provides an eloquent analysis of why businesses often find themselves shackled to these outdated technologies, citing concerns ranging from cost and convenience to custom integrations and technological inertia. The conversation then transitions to the undeniable power of cloud technology in addressing these challenges. Tim elucidates how the cloud can pace a company's digital evolution, mainly through hybrid storage approaches. By framing the cloud as more than just a tool but as a strategic asset, Tim makes a compelling case for its role in shaping the future of content management. One of the unique aspects we explore is the regional nuances in digital transformation strategies. While the technological challenges remain consistent globally, the approach to solving them varies. Tim outlines how market behaviors differ across the UK, Europe, and the US, offering insights into how Hyland tailors its strategies to align with regional idiosyncrasies. Further, we dive into the broader narrative of digital transformation. Tim stresses the importance of a well-defined vision that includes technology, people, and processes. He discusses Hyland's mission of enabling intelligent connections between content, data, and processes using a blend of cutting-edge technologies like AI and machine learning. A holistic outlook has fueled Hyland's remarkable growth under his leadership. The episode wraps up with Tim sharing glimpses into the future— from the expansion of the content services market to Hyland's ongoing focus on enhancing customer experiences through technologies like Insight. Plus, he shares a bit of whimsy, expressing his hypothetical dining companions from history and tech, namely Charles Babbage and Bill Gates. This episode serves as a comprehensive guide for businesses looking to navigate the complex landscape of digital transformation, especially in the realm of content and data management. It's a conversation rich in expert insights and practical strategies, equipping listeners with the knowledge to make informed decisions in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
How is Jesus calling you to live different? Today in our teaching series we are looking at the book of 1 Peter. As followers of Jesus, we are called to live different with a radical counter-cultural obedience. As Peter writes to the early church, he encourages them to live with holiness, purity, generosity and love in the face of great resistance, oppression, abuse and persecution.
Do you want to know how to be happy? All of us want to be happy, but where do we find happiness? So many of the age old pursuits have come up empty. The pursuit of money, sex, power have left many with brief moments of elation but not a deep sense of contentment and happiness. Jesus invites us to embrace a whole new way of seeing the world and living. At the start of his most famous sermon, the sermon on the mount, Jesus lists a group of blessings to show the way to a happy and blessed life. And it turns out, the way to happiness is completely at odds with the message of this world.

“I AM” – These two simple words give so much hope, and yet caused Jesus so much trouble. Throughout the gospel of John, Jesus claims His divinity by using the phrase I AM seven times, joining them to metaphors expressing His divinity, and inviting us all to experience a relationship with Him every day. This series will unpack the seven I AM statements of Jesus in John's gospel to give us confidence in Jesus' divinity, and help us discover the promises that Jesus offers to everyone who believes.
Whether you're spending time in person with a missionary this Christmas or are looking for ways to care from afar, Tim Hood shares practical, creative suggestions for this holiday season. ”For missionaries, home is complicated. They have this deep sense of not knowing where home actually is.” Psalm 90:1 “Knowing your missionaries, understanding their contexts, knowing their likes and dislikes, knowing some of the challenges they face is really the first step of being able to minister effectively, being able to meet them where they are.” “What would be a blessing? And then do that.” “The holidays are a gift-giving season, but sometimes what is the most important to a missionary [is just] to be remembered.” Ephesians 4 “Praying for missionaries is such a huge deal, and letting them know that is also a huge deal.” We also recommend Episode 68: Five Questions Not to Ask a Missionary with Kara Delaney. Flexible, nimble, entrepreneurial. These are three words that most of us wouldn't associate with our traditional college system. But what if we restructured the way we approach higher education to make it more flexible for all learners, to adapt more nimbly to workforce needs, and to instill an entrepreneurial spirit in the way education does its business?Tim Hood, President of Mid-Michigan College is an unconventional leader in his own right. His working-class upbringing and entrepreneurial background make him the perfect disruptor to traditional approaches to college education. This episode is full of non-traditional ideas about how we should be doing college, like:Getting rid of the stigma that career and technical education is less important than academic programsCreating ultra-flexible pathways for adult learners to earn certificates and degreesRemoving the polarization between business and education and instead embracing collaborative partnershipsMaking college all about experiential learning...and designing curriculum that's closely tied to the needs of industry that are hiring these individualsAnd when it comes to incumbent worker training, listening to the shop floor employees to see what they want/need to learnEducation is facing some major changes in the coming years, and leaders like Tim Hood who think outside the box are going to get us where we need to go.

The buzz: Yes or not yet? “There are only two types of companies today: those that have been breached and know it—and those that just don't know it yet,” noted John Chambers. As a retailer's networked connections expand and firewalls grow porous, added scrutiny is needed on security inside their IT landscape, as well as within their partner and consumer environments. What risk do “ethical” retailers face if sensitive collected data is breached? Do regional/national retailers have an advantage over multinationals? The experts speak. Brent Brown, HP: “If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else” (Y. Berra). Brian Kilcourse, RSR Research: …computer viruses should count as life…the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive” (S. Hawking). Tim Hood, SAP: …there are known knowns… known unknowns...unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know” (D. Rumsfeld). The buzz: It's a small world after all. For today's consumer, “the world” is just a few clicks away. Armed with anytime, anywhere information, they can (and do) find the best solutions for their lifestyle needs, often before walking into a store, restaurant, or service center. They're actually maximizing their use of time, their most precious commodity. And they will punish providers who waste it. The experts speak. Brent Brown, HP: “100% of the shots you don't take don't go in...” (Wayne Gretzky). Brian Kilcourse, RSR Research: “Trying to predict the future is like trying to drive down a country road at night with no lights while looking out the back window” (Peter Drucker). Tim Hood, SAP: “We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men; and among those fibers, as sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as effects” (Herman Melville).
