This is an interesting pod episode listeners. I interview six clinicians from the amazing California therapy practice, Salinas Counseling. Salinas Counseling is run by Rosa Salinas, is located in Redlands, CA, and specializes in providing cultural competence for each and every one of their clients first before diving into clinical interventions. We discuss everything from the definition of generational trauma and the decolonization of mental health to movies like Encanto and Turning Red, how gender plays a role in reaching out for help, and how representation in the therapy room matters wayyyy more than some people think it does. I mean 86% of mental health professionals are White. This is a discussion we've been needing to have. Enjoy! In this episode of the HUMAN First podcast, Dr. Courtney discusses: Meeting the 6 members of Salinas Counseling and why they got into the mental health space. Defining generational trauma and decolonization Decolonization of mental health takes in account many other people's cultures Humility is important. Salinas believes “we are not the expert on the person in front of us, but we want to learn.” How movies like Encanto and Turning Red are helping break generational trauma Talking about trauma is so hard when we are taught to do the opposite “family” and the protection of it is more important that truth or healing How gender plays a role in repressing your feelings and later not reaching out for help Reparenting yourself to avoid becoming the parent you had to parent You can love and critique aspects of your culture The military and police culture also impacts how much or how little people believe in therapy The importance of having representation inside the therapy room How you speak, dress, and present yourself can be the difference of feeling welcome or feeling uncomfortable in a space How do we start the process of getting therapy or going to therapy with someone? It only takes one person to break that cycle of generational trauma What it means to be relatability in a world that sets you up to fail 86% of mental health professionals are white The balance between being mindful about disclosure and relating to them to help You don't have to be in a crisis to reach out for therapy You can find Salinas Counseling online at: IG: https://www.instagram.com/salinas_counseling/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/salinascounseling Learn more about Salinas Counseling's offerings at: https://www.salinascounseling.com/ Dr. Courtney Tracy's additional offerings: Instagram: @the.truth.doctor TikTok: @the.truth.doctor Twitter: @_thetruthdoctor Exclusive YouTube Show: The Truth Doctor Show Healing texts: USA & Canada (424) 228-9525 Website: www.thetruthdoctor.com This podcast is not therapy and does not provide personalized clinical advice. Our ability to make wise choices versus bad choices is ultimately what defines and shapes us. God tells us to be holy as He is holy. Not only to know Him but become like Him. Let's learn lessons from others in the Bible as well as fully understand what is available to us today as children of our Father above and disciples of Jesus Christ. Many of the workers and police investigators thought that it was some kind of joke or prank but soon discovered it was anything but a joke. The remains were identified as human, and they were the bones of someone around the ages of 13-17 years old. A jawbone was found on the sewer's ledge, and some teeth was still intact. The Redlands Police department didn't know what to do as they found the whole skeleton body throughout the drains. As police didn't know where to start, they decided to check the missing person reports when they found a report of a 14-year-old boy named Tristan Jensen, who was reported missing seven weeks earlier. Tristan Jensen was a 13-year-old boy from Redlands, CA, who had a rough life growing up. His mom died from cancer when he was four years old, and his dad was in county jail in Chino, CA. Tristan would eventually move in with his grandmother Betty Simon. Tristan's grandma's mother would raise him until he was 13 years old. At 13 years old Tristan moved with his aunt Shelly, and two cousins, Matthew and Brandon, lived next door. The family blended great, the cousins were raised as brothers, and the family was whole. Friends and students described Tristan as very popular, friendly, and someone who had the ability to become friends with anyone he met, and everyone wanted to be around him. He was known as a popular kid among the teachers and staff at Redlands High School. In August 1998,  Tristan went missing. Always reliable, his family and friends had no idea where Tristan could be, and they contacted the police the following day. The family told police that Tristan had gone out to ride his skateboard, and they didn't hear from him or did he come home. They said they didn't initially panic as Tristan was responsible and always rode around the town. In spite of an intensive search, six weeks would pass before the family would hear anything about the missing teenager.

By Robin Webber in Las Vegas, NV, Redlands, CA, San Diego, CA - July 23, 2022 - This message explores the life of "the man of God" who chastised King Jeroboam of Israel for his idolatry (I Kings 13). He was given two specific instructions by "the word of the Lord". He was used as a dynamic witness for God, but later faltered to lesser voices and made an example for all times. Like him we have been called and chosen for an incredible purpose which in large part is to expressly follow the specific "words of the Lord" given to us. We may never know this man's name but can learn powerful lessons from his story.

Mike McCarthy got his first taste of bike racing at the Kissena Velodrome. After a few years away from racing he picked it right back up at 14 years old. This time he began riding and racing in Central Park in New York City. By 1983 he got an invite to a junior winter camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. He eventually became a 4 year resident at the OTC. In 1986 he won a national championship. By 87 he was a Pan Am Gold medalist in the team pursuit. The next year he did the Olympics and got 9th in the team pursuit. In 1990 he won a bronze medal in the pursuit at worlds. 1992 Mike is world champion in the pursuit at 5k. He beat Shaun Wallace for the jersey. 93 was a wash because of Epstein Barr Virus. 1995 hit and he was back on track and riding for Saturn till 98. In between that time Mike rode another Olympics in 96 and won stages in Redlands, Tour de Taiwan, Tour of Japan, Boulder and multiple crits. In 1998 he smashed the Goodwill Games in his hometown and eventually retired. I'll admit it, I'm a fan of Mike's just like I'm a fan of Jame Carney, Mike Creed to Erik Saunders. I hope you enjoy the interview because I sure did.
