Lessons from Abraham for Christian Business Leaders, 364

You track your metrics. You set your strategy. You connect the dots. But what happens when the Lord won't let you see the outcome? In this episode, we go to Genesis 12 and Hebrews 11 to learn what Abraham teaches Christian business leaders: obedience, faith, commitment, and worship. In this episode, you'll explore: Why high achievers are especially tempted to lead by sight — and why the ROI-driven, outcome-focused mindset is the exact place faith is most needed. How to read Genesis 12:1-3 as a leadership lesson — circling the "I will" statements God made to Abraham and recognizing that His promises are greater than anything we can see in our humanness. Why Abraham's four-part response to God's call — obedience, faith, commitment, and worship — is the template for how Christian leaders move forward without a clear outcome. What it looks like to follow Abraham's example when you're mid-assignment, mid-build, and mid-season. Why every promise in the Word is fulfilled in Jesus — and how that truth silences the enemy's voice when outcomes don't look the way you planned. Scriptures referenced: Genesis 12:1-9 Hebrews 11:9, 17  Key Takeaway: Abraham didn't see the outcome. He didn't live to see the promise fulfilled in Jesus. And yet he was obedient, faithful, committed, and worshiped, because the Promise-maker is also the Promise-keeper. You are not called to see the finish line. You are called to be obedient in the mile you're in. Reflection Question: Where in your business right now are you more focused on the outcome than on the obedience — and what would it look like to lay that at the foot of the cross this week? Many entrepreneurs believe growth comes from reaching more people. Scripture teaches something different. In this episode, Dr. Chonta Haynes explores Genesis 1 and reveals why God intentionally gave Adam one garden before expanding his influence. If you're struggling with your niche, audience, messaging, or calling, this biblical perspective will help you stop chasing everyone and start stewarding your specific assignment. You'll discover why: • Dominion begins with stewardship. • Clarity creates influence. • Your assignment determines your audience. • Kingdom impact grows through faithful stewardship. This episode is part two of the CROWN by Design business series. Today's lesson explores the second room of the CROWN Framework: Reign. Dr. Chonta Haynes explains why so many Christian entrepreneurs remain exhausted trying to serve everyone instead of embracing the audience God specifically assigned to them. Drawing from Genesis, Nehemiah, and practical coaching experience, you'll learn how specificity unlocks greater influence, stronger messaging, and deeper impact. If you've been asking, "Who am I really called to serve?" this conversation provides biblical wisdom to help you move forward with clarity. 00:00 The Garden Was Smaller on Purpose00:45 Character Before Reign01:28 Dominion Was Never About Size02:10 Your Assignment Isn't Everyone02:58 Why Your Message Isn't Connecting03:35 The Power of Specificity04:05 Discover Your Assignment04:45 Your Next Step Books: https://chontahaynes.com/books CROWNed by Design Collective: https://chontahaynes.com/collective Connect with Dr. Chonta Haynes Book a call https://chontahaynes.com/destiny YouTube: https://youtube.com/@ChontaHaynes Instagram: https://Instagram.com/ctahaynes LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/chonta-haynes Support the Mission Heart 2 Heart Truth Foundation Donate: https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=UZG5B9KX59U4S

Jesus’ 5 Instructions for Letting Him Lead Your Christian Business

The Hustle with H.E.A.R.T. Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 1, 2026 14:15

While we desire to let Jesus lead, wouldn't it be GREAT to have clear instructions on how to do that? Many of us high-achieving Christian women are letting Jesus lead in some places but not others. And the result of carrying that weight alone often looks like burnout, broken relationships, and a faith that stays neatly contained to Sunday. There's a better way — and Jesus gives us five clear instructions for it. In this episode, you'll learn: Why meditating on God's Word (Joshua 1:7–9) is the first and foundational step to letting Jesus lead your business — and what it actually produces What it means to truly follow Jesus as a Christian entrepreneur (hint: it requires sacrifice and the surrender of self-direction) How John 15 reframes everything about productivity and accomplishment — and why "without me, you can do nothing" is not a warning but a truth wrapped in grace & love Why we seek everyone else's counsel before we seek His — and how Matthew 6:33 corrects that pattern What walking in your new self (2 Corinthians, Ephesians) has to do with how you show up in your Christian business today The powerful example of Peter in Luke 5 — and what his "at your word, I will let down the net" teaches us about obedience in the face of doubt Scripture References: Deuteronomy 6:5 Matthew 22:37–38 Joshua 1:7–9 Matthew 16:24 Romans 8:28 John 15:5 Matthew 6:33 2 Corinthians 5:17 Ephesians 4:20–24 Luke 5:1–11 Key Takeaway: Whether you're scaling an established business or refining what you've built, this episode will remind you that Jesus has the exact instructions for how to let Him lead what He's already placed in your hands. And when you follow those instructions, you'll experience the full measure of His joy and peace as you work! Reflection Questions to Apply Today's Episode Which of the five instructions — meditate, follow, abide, seek, or walk in your new self — are you most naturally living out in your business, and which one is Jesus inviting you to surrender more fully to Him today? Where in your business are you leading yourself instead of letting Jesus lead? What would it look like to say, like Peter, "At your word, I will move" in that specific area? What old habits, past failures, or need for control are keeping you from walking fully in the new creation He's already made you to be — and what is one step you can take this week to release that to Him? LET'S WORK TOGETHERAccountability, focus, a sounding board, and strategic insight are the key reasons my clients work with me, and I'd love to bring these to your business too! “Lord, help my unbelief.” Do you say you believe, yet walk in doubt? That's the hard question at the heart of this episode. Building directly off last week's conversation about anchoring your identity in Christ, we're going deeper — into what it actually looks like to stop circling the mountain and trade doubt for conviction as you work, lead, and walk out your Kingdom assignment.  This one is going to make you think, and it may make you uncomfortable (which is a GOOD thing in the name of Jesus)! In This Episode: Why operating from doubt and fear in the face of God's truth is dishonoring to Him — and what to do about it What Colossians 2:4-23 says about being rooted, built up, and established in Christ — and why the world's arguments don't get a vote A deep dive into Ephesians 1 and 2 — and the I Am Tool that helps you see who God's word says you really are Why James 3:9 applies to the way you speak about yourself — not just others What 2 Timothy 1:7-12 reveals about fear, power, love, and sound judgment Knowing that your assignment was predestined before the foundation of the earth — and what that means for the doubt you're carrying today Scripture References: Colossians 2:4-23 Ephesians 1 & 2  James 3:9 2 Timothy 1:7-12 Key Takeaway: Your feelings are not facts — they are information. When doubt and fear show up, they are a signal to turn back to the Word, not a verdict on your assignment. God chose you, equipped you, and predestined this work before the foundation of the earth. The question is not whether he has prepared you. The question is whether you will be convicted by that truth — and walk in it. Reflection Questions From This Episode: How much longer do you want to operate from doubt and fear instead of coming into full agreement with his truth? Are you convicted by what the world shows you — or by what His Word says about you? Do you treat your feelings as facts or as information? Will you stop circling the mountain and take the next step? Coming up in May: How your anchored, convicted identity shapes the way you view competition and the culture you build in your organization. God made you ambitious. He did not make you for business as usual. Be convicted by that today. Can Christians pursue success in business without sidelining their faith—or turning God into just another “box” in life? In this episode of the Thinking Christian Podcast, Dr. James Spencer sits down with Andrea Anderson, Christian business coach and author of Bread Like Rain, to talk about surrendered strategy, discipleship, and what it really means to follow Christ in entrepreneurial work. Andrea shares her journey from cultural Christianity to atheism and agnosticism—and eventually to a living faith shaped by loss, prayer, and God’s persistent pursuit. Her move into life coaching and consulting didn’t come from a desire to optimize productivity alone, but from a deeper question: How do I help people experience lasting, eternal transformation rather than temporary fixes? Drawing from her work with Christian business owners, Andrea explains why many leaders experience recurring chaos despite good intentions: self-reliance and control quietly replace trust in God. The solution isn’t better tactics at ground level, but a top-down reordering—learning to ask what the Lord is saying and aligning vision, strategy, and identity accordingly. When leaders build from misalignment, results never last. When they build from surrender, fruit endures. James and Andrea explore how discipleship must shape leadership, why faith cannot be compartmentalized into “God,” “work,” and “family” boxes, and how obedience opens our eyes to what God is already doing. They also discuss the dangers of redefining success apart from God’s purposes—where profitability, health, relationships, and obedience must be held together rather than traded off against one another. The conversation touches on prayer, listening for God’s voice, and why many Christians struggle to slow down spiritually: not because they don’t know prayer matters, but because they doubt they can actually hear God. Andrea introduces the idea of a “faith optimization gap”—the distance between what we know and what we truly believe—and how that gap quietly shapes decisions, priorities, and burnout. Finally, Andrea offers a candid reflection on the modern church: discipleship requires more than encouragement and affirmation. True love includes correction, accountability, and refining relationships shaped by Christ—not cultural comfort. Topics include: From organizing spaces to organizing lives under Christ Why self-reliance creates recurring chaos in leadership Faith, profitability, and God’s definition of success Compartmentalization vs. surrendered discipleship Prayer as communion, not a spiritual checklist Hearing God’s voice in daily decisions Church discipline, accountability, and real community Bread Like Rain and Andrea’s upcoming book, Rock Solid Business You can find out more about Andrea at https://andrealeighco.com.
