Crawford Ashley is one of Britains best Light-Heavyweight champions of modern times. He is a former British, Commonwealth and European champion. He fought 7 world champions in his career and fought for 3 world titles at 3 different weights. In this episode, Crawford opens up about some tough times during his school days in the 1970's. His amateur career was glittered with titles at British schoolboy and junior level, yet he never got the recognition from the English selectors to represent his country. We go in depth about his professional career including his days in Belfast as part of that successful Eastwoods stable during the early 1990's. Crawford tells stories of training with some of the best fighters in the world, taking fights at short notice and how he became disillusioned with his management at the time. His world title contests against great fighters, Michael Nunn and Virgil Hill are discussed, as well as his domestic dust ups with Nicky Piper, Jimmy Peters and Clinton Woods amongst others. I find out how difficult life has been for Crawford since retirement and how an almost deadly motorbike accident changed his path in life. Crawford now has the love for boxing back as his son, Theo embarks on his own boxing journey. Crawford speaks from the heart and doesn't shy away from telling it how he see's it. Всем доброго здравия дорогие мои!!! Вот и подошла пора подводить итоги уходящего года !!! Этот год оказался очень тяжёлым в отношении всего и теперь всё изменилось и не будет так как раньше ! Но как говорится надежда умирает последней , поэтому я думаю что в итоге когда нибудь всё наладится ! Что касается электронной музыки то этот и предыдущие года были насыщенными в плане качества и достойного звука . Liverpool's Brian Schumacher was the captain of the 1984 Team GB Olympic boxing team. He rubbed shoulders with the likes of Seb Coe, Daley Thompson and Steve Redgrave. He was also a clearance diver for the Royal Navy and a former ABA champion. He lost to the brilliant Virgil Hill in Los Angeles and at the start of his pro career defeated future WBO world champion Johnny Nelson. But politics and life away from the ring saw him fall out of love with boxing before his fall from grace. He was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his mother's partner. Crawford Ashley was a Sky Sports staple through the 1990s having reigned as British, Commonwealth and European champion and fighting for world titles. But retirement came and depression and death loomed large. As he struggled to find himself after boxing there were multiple brushes with death. By then, he'd fought a who's who of top fighters, from Michael Nunn and Virgil Hill to Johnny Nelson, Carl Thompson, Nicky Piper, Graciano Rocchigiani, Yawe Davis and Clinton Woods. Here he talks about wanting to fight Chris Eubank, and sparring him, sparring with Lennox Lewis in Big Bear, the horrendous time he endured towards the end of his career and post-boxing, the biggest fights and his fresh and optimistic outlook on life having spent time in Jamaica, Thailand and many places in between. Last week I talked about the left body hook. The left body hook is a great shot and can be very hurtful…..but when the right body hook lands, and your whole body weight is behind it, it's game over. There are 2 main right body hooks that I like to teach. The standard is very similar to the left body hook, but rather than slip their right cross, you slip their left jab (slipping to the right). When slipping, bend the knees slightly and rotate your body (clockwise). Then power up through your legs and hook your right fist into your opponents left-hand side. This is a great solid shot that can be added to most combinations very easily e.g. jab, cross, left hook, right body hook. A little tip that I forgot to mention last week, is that quite often when throwing a body hook, I like to double it up. I would either hit again to the body with another hook to the same place, or throw a hook to the head on the same side, as a second shot. When you land a body hook, more often than not, the boxer will instantly pull his elbow down to cover. This is when I hook to the head. Reminder: If you keep repeating the same technique, your opponent will cotton on to what you are doing. So again mix it up, double to the body / hook body then hook head / hook head then hook body - always keep them guessing. The 2nd right body hook I teach is my favourite. It is the looping right hook. The amount of power you are able to generate with this technique is absolutely awesome. I like to set this punch up by feinting the left jab (bringing their hands high to guard) and then looping the right hand directly into their side. The hand position isn't like a normal hook, on contact the back of my fist is facing me. If you would like to try this hook on a punch bag, make sure you start lightly and get used to the angle, as it can really hurt your wrist if you get it wrong.
