In the fifth of our 'Reflection Series', host Matt Phillips is joined Massage & Movement Therapists Stevie Barr of Fit Thru Life and Tristen Attenborough of Move Massage Pro, who together reflect on Ep.74 of The Sports Therapy Association Podcast “Massage 2021 – The Year of Change?”, which was recorded back in October 2021 with special guests Anna Maria Mazzieri and Matt Scarbrook of The Massage Collective. Together, Tristan, Stevie and Matt reflect on, three years after the original epioode was aired, question such as: Has the delivery of sports massage improved in the last few years? Are practitioners now more evidence informed? Are patient outcomes better as a result? The conversation that pursues delves deep into exploration of the challenges posed by misinformation in our industry, and the opportunities for professional development. A fascinating listen for soft tissue therapists both experienced and new to the indusry.
On January 29 1971 — In accepting the Tris Speaker Award from Houston sportswriters, Roberto Clemente gives a speech which, apart from being called by many of those in attendance “the best talk any baseball player ever made,” is the source of Clemente's most famous – if oft misquoted – assertion: “If you have an opportunity to accomplish something that will make things better for someone coming behind you, and you don't do that, you are wasting your time on this earth.”A member of the 3,000-hit club, Roberto Clemente was a tremendously proud man who was often misunderstood by the press and his teammates. He was criticized for refusing to play with minor injuries, despite the fact that he won four batting championships. He played on two Pirate World Series winners and became more legendary after his tragic death while delivering supplies to victims of the Nicaraguan earthquake in 1972 than during his playing days. His tragic death prompted the Hall of Fame's Board of Director's to unanimously wave the customary five year period for induction, opening the door for the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) to hold a special election on Clemente's behalf. By an overwhelming vote of 93%, Clemente became the first player of Latin American descent to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.Mentioned in this episode:Classic Baseball BroadcastsClassic Baseball Broadcasts

Latest Beef Industry News European Union Makes Decision On Cultivated Meat Ban The European Commission criticized Hungary's proposed ban on cultured meat, calling it “unjustified” and potentially disruptive to the EU single market. “No lab-grown meat products are currently authorized in the EU, making a ban premature,” stated the Commission, adding that it could interfere with the EU's scientific approval process for novel foods. Following a TRIS assessment, Sweden, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Czechia also opposed the ban, citing risks to market unity if cultured meat is later approved. The Netherlands further argued that cultured meat could benefit farmers, offering a future-proof alternative for the agricultural sector. Hungary can now revise its draft ban in response to these comments. Vilsack Calls For Congress To Act On Farm Bill Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is urging Congress to pass the overdue Farm Bill. “We need a Farm Bill now,” he emphasized in a call with American Farmland Trust, noting limited time left this fall for a bipartisan solution or at least an extension of the current bill. Though hopeful for a five-year bill by year-end, Vilsack warns delays could disrupt 2025 farm financing. The 2018 Farm Bill, temporarily extended, expired on Sept. 30, putting pressure on Congress to act before the November elections. NCBA Criticizes Dietary Guidelines Recommendations The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) criticized the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee's recent push to replace high-quality proteins like beef with plant-based options. NCBA's Ethan Lane called the suggestions "out-of-touch" and “dangerous,” pointing out that beans and lentils can't fully replace the nutrients beef provides. Dr. Shalene McNeill, NCBA's Executive Director of Nutrition Science, emphasized that while beef makes up only 5% of calories in the American diet, it supplies over 5% of essential nutrients like iron, B12, and protein. These recommendations, part of the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines process, will be reviewed by USDA and HHS. Arkansas Beef Council Names Best Burger The Arkansas Beef Council announced Bailey's Family Restaurant in Cave City as the winner of the inaugural Arkansas's Best Burger Contest with their Caveman Burger. Selected from over 2,400 nominations across 410+ burgers, the contest's top ten burgers — two from each of the state's five regions — were judged on taste, appearance, cooking, and overall impression by an anonymous panel. The Caveman Burger stands out with a massive two-pound beef patty on a nine-inch bun, available as a double with optional cheese or bacon. Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward noted that the contest highlighted Arkansans' love for quality beef and local restaurants. The Arkansas Beef Council continues to support beef's image and Arkansas's cattle industry through promotional and research efforts. Ketan Mehta, Founder and CEO of Tris Pharma, is focused on developing non-addictive pain medication. Their lead drug candidate is designed to be an effective pain drug without the respiratory-depressive and addictive side effects of traditional opioid drugs. This drug works by targeting the nociceptin receptor and has also shown promise to help curb cravings and dependence on opioids. The goal is to provide doctors and patients with a non-opioid pain medication option that can help reduce reliance on highly addictive prescription opioids. Ketan explains, "Tris is focused on neuroscience-based products, especially CNS, at a high level. More specifically, we focused on ADHD and neurodevelopmental disorders and the products that treat them. And also, more recently, we have been more active in the pain space." "We're developing a drug, which is currently an investigational drug in Phase three clinical trials. It's called cebranopadol. And what we have seen is that it has an efficacy just on par with your typical traditional opioid. It's highly effective from what we have seen in more than 2,000 patients to date. But also, what we're seeing thus far is that there is no indication that it creates dependency. You can just taper off the patients, meaning you don't have to give lesser dose even after pain has subsided. And it does not give you the level of respiratory depression or failure that we see with the traditional opioid." "Right now, we're conducting our first trials in acute pain, and then we will look at any kind of moderate to severe pain. Essentially like chronic pain, lower back pain, for example, the pain in arthritis, cancer pain, other disease conditions like fibromyalgia, or just any kind of injury that gives you pretty much any nociceptive pain that one would encounter, we expect, like diabetic peripheral neuropathy and so forth." #TrisPharma #PainManagement #ClinicalTrial #Innovation #PainTherapy #Cebranopadol trispharma.com Download the transcript here

Hi folks, Tris here.Due to forces outside our control, (and not the normal ones) we've been unable to record the season 2 finale (though it is written), and I think it only right to officially put the show on hiatus 'till we figure it out. What does this mean? The show is NOT cancelled. One cannot simply cancel Modem Prometheus.Everyone is fine, thank you for your concern. As of this post, I am pausing billing on the Patreon. Existing patrons can still access bonuses they have paid for, but they will not be charged this month, nor will new signups be possible. The show itself is not going anywhere, the feed and website will remain up, as will the discord. It is not unreasonably optimistic to say that this is not forever. Once we can figure out the recording problem, we have no intentions to stop the show, I believe Neil has vague plans for the next season, and I certainly want to know what happens next.We (by which I mean Neil) are also in the pre-production stages of making a Modem Prometheus anthology book, and should have news on that very soon. With luck, you will be able to at least TOUCH a copy, if not buy it, by Dragonmeet in just over a month.I hope to have better news for you by the next time you hear from me, around the Dark Commute Moon, the 15th of November.Thank you all so much, for everything,Tris

Here's why: Angi and Sarah are working to make triathlon approachable for women of all ages. None of this hardcore, shark-infested waters and lava fields stuff; but fun, supportive, and short-distance events to make it easy to give triathlon a try. (Had to do it, y'all.) SheTris now hosts a handful of events throughout the year in the Carolinas. Lindsey McGee guest hosts with DC Lucchesi when we welcome Angi Klick and Sarah Hays to this episode of The Running Around Charlotte Podcast, presented by Novant Health Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
