The perils of leaving civilisation behind. This week, we strike out into the wilderness to explore a couple of backwoods thrillers: the big daddy of them all, Deliverance (1972) directed by John Boorman and one of the many imitators that came in its wake, William Grefe's Whiskey Mountain (1977). We discuss the world of hillbilly and hickspoloitation film in general, as well as addressing the vital issues of how to deal with drunken psychopaths on set, the unique challenge of acting convincingly dead and the disturbing American trend of camping without tents in movies. We will be announcing a Spoiler Territory section for both films, so if you haven't seen them before you listen, you can nevertheless avoid spoilers for Deliverance by skipping ahead to the 1:07:38 mark, and for Whiskey Mountain by skipping ahead to 1:44:02. Original recorded on Tuesday October 15th and Wednesday October 16th, 2024 Hola, fans! That Horror Show Podcast is back with another episode to tickle your eardrums. Those lovable weirdos Timothy Kazda and Chris Koenig have jump started the way-back machine and head back in time to 1960s Florida to seek out a drive-in presenting a double-feature of cheesy horror and thrills from cult director William Grefe! So sit back, grab your favorite popcorn, and make sure the backseat is vacant so you and your special gal have plenty of space for some "quality time" as the hosts talk about "Sting of Death" (1965), which is the one-and-only sci-fi/horror feature to introduce a human jellyfish monster, and then it's "Death Curse of Tartu" (1966) in which a small group of people are threatened by a dead witch doctor that kills by transforming into animals or reptiles! And both are filmed on location in the Florida Everglades!!! So what more could you want, fans??? And Nate from 'Kids Corner' does the unthinkable: he reviews the John Carpenter horror classic "Halloween" (1978). Shudder!!!    #StingOfDeath  #DeathCurseOfTaru #WilliamGrefe #ThatHorrorShowPodcast #THSP

Have you ever been in the shower and found yourself wondering, what DID William Shatner do in the 1970s? Between the cancellation of Star Trek in 1969 and Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979, he must have done something, but what? Well listeners, we're here for you.A former priest who had a crisis of faith (Shatner), is among a small group aboard a plane trapped in mid-air over the Atlantic, terrorized by unexpected demonic passengers, in the made-for-television movie The Horror at 37,000 Feet (1973). A traumatic childhood incident leads Matt Stone (Shatner) to a life as a gigolo conman, with a taste for stylish threads, wealthy women, and murder in Impulse (1974)! A man devoted to protecting his family and breaking them free of a devilish curse (Shatner), becomes a pawn of Satan, turned against his brother in The Devil's Rain (1975)! And then from there, a heroic, horseback-riding veterinarian (Shatner) attempts to stop a massive colony of tarantulas from transforming a small Arizona town into the Kingdom of the Spiders (1977)!

We return to one of our favorite subjects, the "Regional Filmmaker", focusing on Mr. William Grefe, He produced most of his films in Florida and we had covered another of his films "Mako, the Jaws of Death" back on episode 90 of the podcast. We start off with 1977's "Whiskey Mountain" which stars one of our favorite actors, Christopher George. It follows 4 people on a bit of a treasure hunt through lush woodlands, who run afoul of some people growing marijuana. It is surprisingly brutal for a PG rated film and has some nice moments, but is probably at least twice as long as it needs to be. We follow that up with 1974's "Impulse" which has a bonkers performance from William Shatner as a ruthless gigolo who murders a number of people and terrorizes a young girl. It's quite a shocker at times and you'll want a shower after it's over. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. Jay Katz & Miss Death sat down with one of the most prolific exploitation directors of all time: William Grefe - broadcasting from Florida at the age of 90. If there were rules to filmmaking, one director would break them all! From the 1960's to the 1990's, writer/director William Grefé was grinding out exploitation films for drive-ins and hardtops across the globe. As a Miami-based regional filmmaker, he utilised the darkest corners of the Florida Everglades as his personal studio backlot. Killer sharks and human jellyfish and living mummies, oh my! Arrow Video is proud to present the first ever collection of works by William “Wild Bill” Grefé, the maverick filmmaker who braved the deep, dark depths of the Florida everglades to deliver some of the most outrageous exploitation fare ever to go-go dance its way across drive-in screens. Bringing together seven of Grefé's most outlandish features, all new to Blu-ray, He Came from the Swamp: The William Grefé Collection packs in a macabre menagerie of demented jellyfish men (Sting of Death), zombified witch doctors (Death Curse of Tartu), homicidal hippies (The Hooked Generation) and seductive matrons (The Naked Zoo) – not to mention the ubiquitous go-go dancing college kids – to create one of the most wildly entertaining box-sets of all time!
