Rob Thomas, Editor-in-Chief of Club + Resort Business chats with Steve Skinner, CEO of KemperSports, about the company's new partnership with Touchstone Golf. KemperSports, a 45-year-old golf management company with more than 200 properties in 35 states, has partnered with Touchstone Golf, which manages 41 properties primarily in the western U.S. The partnership aims to leverage each other's expertise, particularly in third-party management and local market knowledge. Skinner highlights the importance of technology and innovation in enhancing the golf experience and discusses future growth plans, including potential acquisitions and expanding into new markets. He also expresses optimism about the industry's future, driven by a new generation of golfers. Also in the news, the six-month golf course renovation project at the Okatie Creek Golf Course at Sun City Hilton Head in Bluffton, S.C., focuses on enhancing turf conditions and playability. As part of the course renovation, all greens will be hulled out and re-grassed with Tif Eagle turf, while fairways and tee boxes will be re-grassed with Celebration turf. Read about four ways clubs can leverage technology for workforce efficiency. Joe Morrison, Director of Business Development at Adams Keegan, says technology is revolutionizing many aspects of our lives, and country clubs are no exception. These institutions are increasingly adopting solutions to enhance efficiency. When integrated thoughtfully, technology can streamline operations, improve member experiences, and enhance workforce productivity, all while maintaining the personal touch that members value most. Lastly, a Florida Club hosts its annual ‘Celebration of Creativity' member art show. The annual art show at Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club in Vero Beach, Fla., included an artwork pop-up featuring 24 paintings for sale benefiting The Learning Alliance. “Supporting the community through philanthropic efforts is so important to our members,” says General Manager Rob Tench.

Who are you? Where are you from? And who's your mob? This new Seedcast Spotlight is coming from friends in Australia, and we love this opening question offered by Lore of the Land, because for Indigenous peoples, where you're from and who your people are is at the center of stewarding the land we are connected to. Lore of the Land is a podcast produced by the Aboriginal Carbon Foundation. In this excerpt, host Sean Appoo (Birri Gubba and Kabi Kabi) interviews Joe Morrison (Dagoman and Torres Strait ancestry) of the Land and Sea Corporation, which helps Indigenous Australians to acquire and manage land and water rights.  As Joe shares, the land title process in Australia is complicated by requirements to prove sustained connection to land, which has been broken by centuries of discrimination, assimilation, and other types of social and physical violence. Joe shares some of the hurdles related to the formal land title process, the effects of settler colonialism on Indigenous identity, and why it's important to honor the elders who fought to hard so we could have a chance to be here, carrying forward their stories, knowledge, and important work of healing the planet. Special thanks to Joe Morrison for sharing your insights as well as a kind connection to the Lore of the Land team. Thanks also to host Sean Appoo of the Aboriginal Carbon Foundation and Sean Turtur with Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation for generously sharing this episode.  Learn more:  Lore of the Land Podcast Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation Aboriginal Carbon Foundation Find us at https://www.instagram.com/niatero_seedcast/ Seedcast is a production of Nia Tero, a global nonprofit which supports Indigenous land guardianship around the world through policy, partnership, and storytelling initiatives.Enjoy the Seedcast podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and your other favorite podcast platforms. Synmax is the second geospatial company from legendary energy trader Bill Perkins that I have profiled (the first was app.skyfi.com). Finally I can say we have gotten into spatial finance. Eric Anderson CFA, their CTO, was a very stimulating guest. I especially appreciated his willingness to cover the philosophical side of the AI question towards the end. Eric also had fantastic advice for an apprentice for the final question. Overall I feel incredibly proud to have gotten to this point with the podcast. I have had a very strong interest in spatial finance since the field emerged a couple of years ago, but always felt the academic version of it was deficient. Yes, environmental implications of finance are important, but I don't see a reason not to simply call this Environmental Finance. So, Synmax is real spatial finance - using remote sensing and spatial analysis to gain a trading edge. What made it all the more meaningful to me was to have this interview with a chartered financial analyst. This is someone who has survived an exam with a 30% pass rate. More about Bill Perkins: https://spearswms.com/wealth/natural-gas-trader-bill-perkins/. He runs Skylar Capital: https://skylarcapitalmanagement.com/. Eric mentioned Synmax is in the process of acquiring Gas Vista: https://gasvista.com/. They have a nice map animation of ships they track: https://leviaton.com/login/?next=/, a function Eric said Synmax will integrate into their offering. Where to next? Well, Gabe gave me a SAR image of London in the last episode. Unfortunately it wasn't autographed by Joe Morrison, maybe Luke Fischer didn't ask for one on my behalf after all (check the Skyfi interview for the reference!) But I feel something is building here if I do my homework. THE GEOSPATIAL INDEX The Geospatial Index is a comprehensive listing of all publicly traded geospatial businesses worldwide. Why? Heavy snow and high winds meant more blizzards in the northern Midwest from the Dakotas through Michigan, with ice and snow causing trouble in places from the Appalachians through New England. A bill to rescind the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for members of the U.S. military and provide nearly $858 billion for national defense has passed the Senate and now goes to President Joe Biden to be signed into law. Officials in Ukraine say Russian forces launched at least 60 missiles across the country. They reported blasts in at least four cities on Friday, including Kyiv. The Senate has passed legislation to fund the government for an additional week as lawmakers race to finish work on a full-year spending package before they head home for the holidays and a new Congress is sworn in. In sports, the 49ers are NFC champions, the Grizzlies dominated the Bucks and the Yankees signed a big name free agent. On the original version of Hot off the Wire (posted Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. CT): The House committee investigating the Capitol riot will hold its final meeting Monday, wrapping up its year-and-a-half-long inquiry by asking the Justice Department to investigate potential crimes. President Joe Biden on Thursday said he will soon make a visit to sub-Saharan Africa, announcing bare details of his travels plans as he wrapped up the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. The Department of Homeland Security says more migrants may be released into the United States to pursue immigration cases when Trump-era asylum restrictions end next week. Russia's Foreign Ministry is warning that if the United States confirms reports that it plans to deliver sophisticated air defense missiles to Ukraine, it would be a “provocative move" that could prompt a response from Moscow. A storm system that spawned dozens of reported tornadoes from east Texas to the Florida Panhandle was all but done with the South on Thursday after killing at least three people and uprooting families across Louisiana, where some homes were blown into pieces. German tennis legend Boris Becker has returned to Germany after serving eight months in prison. The problems have hardly gone away. Inflation, still near a 40-year high, is punishing households. Rising interest rates have derailed the housing market and threaten to inflict broader damage. And the outlook for the world economy grows bleaker the longer that Russia's war against Ukraine drags on. But for now anyway, the U.S. economy has likely returned to growth after having shrunk in each of the first two quarters of 2022. Democratic candidate for Senate John Fetterman was back on the campaign trail a day after a rocky debate performance against Republican candidate Mehmet Oz. A woman is accusing Herschel Walker, the anti-abortion Republican running for U.S. Senate in Georgia, of encouraging and paying for her 1993 abortion. The accusation comes weeks after a former girlfriend said Walker did the same for her in 2009. Moscow-appointed authorities in southern Ukraine say tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated from an area around the strategic city of Kherson as intense fighting and attacks on power infrastructure continue. No one won an estimated $700 million Powerball jackpot, meaning the big prize will grow to an estimated $800 million for the next drawing. Rishi Sunak has faced the opposition in Parliament for the first time as Britain's prime minister, promising to restore economic stability after his predecessor's tax plans triggered market tumult. Who made the global warming mess the world is now in? More than half of the world's heat-trapping gases comes from three places: The United States, China and Europe. A judge has ordered former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to testify before a special grand jury that's investigating whether President Donald Trump and his Republican allies illegally tried to influence Georgia's 2020 election. When you are hanging out in the Racing Junk booth, some cool folks stop by.  The  mics were set to ow and the car talk took off...FAST with Nitro Joe Morrison. Be sure to visit Nitro Joe's site to learn more and to follow him on social media. Joe Morrison is a 2nd generation drag racer, entrepreneur, and musician. This uncommon combination of skill sets, all of which he pursues with passion and determination to be the best he can be, creates a unique and holistic approach to motorsports. Whether it is driving, interacting with fans, or working to provide ROI to sponsors; Joe approaches each opportunity with professionalism, enthusiasm, and a desire to continue perfecting his craft. Joe's love affair with driving started out with his first go-cart purchased with money he earned by cutting neighbors lawns at the tender age of 10. With some sage advice from his racing dad, Chuck; Joe soon began modifying the engine and adding “model airplane” fuel containing methanol and 20% nitro methane in order to improve performance and be like his racing heroes “Jungle” Jim Liberman, Don “The Snake” Prudhomme, and “Big Daddy” Don Garlits. By the time he drove his 1970 4 speed Chevelle at historic Raceway Park on opening day in 1988, it was no surprise that he went all the way to the final earning a runner up in his very first drag race. It was not until (of all days) September 11, 2001 at Atco Dragway that Joe earned his competition license with Doug Foley's drag race school. After “renting” race cars for several events, in 2006 Joe became part owner and driver of a 7 second Fiat Altered for former Top Fuel and Comp Eliminator racer Mike Gillespie.  See more hereSpeed over to our friends at RacingJunk.comBe sure to follow Get Out and Drive Podcast on social media!GOND WebsiteIG: Get_Out_N_DriveTwitter  GetOutNDrivePodFB Get.Out.N.Drive.PodcastYouTube https://tinyurl.com/GONDYouTubeJoin our fb group to share pics of how you Get Out N DriveFollow Jason on IGIG @oldecarrguyFollow Jason on fbfb @oldecarrguySubscribe To the Olde Carr Guy YouTube ChannelFollow John on IGIG @customcarnerdFriend John on fbRecording Engineer, Paul MeyerSign Up and Learn more about National Get Out N Drive Day.Grab your Official Decals, Apparel and other cool shirts at GetDriveGear.com   Subscribe to the Str8SixFan YouTube Channel.Be sure to join the coolest place on YouTube on Thursday nights at 7pm CST, The CarrGuy & SixFan Show, powered by the Get Out N Drive Podcast.Support the show

The process of applying to college continues to get more complex, especially for international students. The burden is on the student, requiring time, money, and research. That creates inequities, but the platform Concourse is changing that. Voices of eLearning host JW Marshall sat down with the company's Founder and CEO, Joe Morrison.Morrison has a rich technology background and later became familiar with higher education through his wife's company and working in China. He realized there were significant challenges in the college admissions process, and Concourse was the solution.“The university admissions process is too complicated. It's hard to navigate, and there's a lot of anxiety. It's also challenging for university recruiters to get their stories out there. It's two problems our platform solves. The premise is having universities apply for students, flipping the marketplace,” Morrison explained.Students create profiles with their grades, interests, criteria, and budget. Counselors then verify the accounts. Next, universities search for students and extend offers. “It's an empowering process for students,” Morrison added. It's also helping admissions offices to evolved. They can see where they have gaps in programs and offer more admissions in those. They aren't waiting for applications to come in and have access to real-time data through the platform's dashboard. Thus far, the platform has facilitated many positive outcomes. “Last year, our admit rate was 72 percent. So, seven out of 10 times, the study received an admission.”The system is really for students who are unsure of where they want to go and what they want to do. “It helps them find options for a one-time fee of only $75. Many discover what they want in the process, like an Egyptian student I spoke to recently. She had six offers from five countries and found the right program.”

Susan suggested a bunch of things to read about the philosophy and ethics of listening, for you to follow up: * Talk: The science of conversation by Elizabeth Stokoe * Yo! And Lo! Routledge, 2017. 41-52. And here are some other things for you to explore that came up in our conversation: * I mentioned the following book at one point: Solnit, Rebecca. Hope in the dark: The untold history of people power. Canongate Books, 2010. * Susan talked a bit about the ethical work done by Elizabeth Edenberg, (http://elizabethedenberg.com/) which emphasises how participants to discussions often have a wide range of commonly held values. * She also mentioned a Horizon-2020 research project at the University of Manchester that looks into youth radicalisation: it's called the Dialogue about Radicalisation and Equality, or DARE (http://www.dare-h2020.org/). * I mentioned the 'deep listening (http://deeplistening.org/site/)' programme of composer Pauline Oliveros. A great introduction to her work can be found on this episode (https://www.newsounds.org/story/performer-part-two-pauline) of WQXR Q2's awesome 'Meet The Composer' series with host Nadia Sirota here. A performance of Oliveros' 'Tuning Mediation' can be seen in 360º video recorded in binaural sound here (https://www.newsounds.org/story/make-radio-met-cloisters-pauline-oliveross-tuning-meditation). * In this regard, Susan also mentioned the following work: Cavarero, Adriana. You can find Susan online on twitter (@susannotess (https://www.twitter.com/susannotess)), and her academic webpage is here (https://susannotess.wordpress.com/), where you can find links to her work, including this excellent article: * Listening to People: Using Social Psychology to Spotlight an Overlooked Virtue. I didn't appreciate our legal system until my company got sued It's a funny story now that I'd be happy to tell you over a beer - but at the time it was scary. I was afraid that we would lose our company, but I was even more afraid that I would lose my house and somehow put my family's future in jeopardy. Neither of those things happened, and in many ways this is a result of how our legal system is structured. Believe it or not, the United States is a still an incredibly great place to start a company. It's easy and inexpensive to do so legally, and doing that creates a separation between you and your company. If you're thoughtful about a few key things when you're starting your company, you'll save time and money and stress down the road. But lawyers cost money, so startups avoid them So for this episode I asked Joe Morrison - one of the best startup lawyers in Ann Arbor - what advice he would give a new entrepreneur that he met at a cocktail party. Off the record. Friend to friend.  Joe represents early and high-growth companies in an outside general counsel capacity. He focuses on technology-enabled emerging companies and the venture capital firms that invest in them. In Ann Arbor he's known as a very approachable resource with a ton of reps under his belt. Rather than overwhelm you with how smart he is, he does a great job of simplifying things that can easily become complex. Joe and I recorded this story at the Bodman offices in downtown Ann Arbor.

We had mentioned there would be no new episode this week due to family obligations. The reality is that I lost my grandfather this past week. I was, thankfully, forward thinking ahead enough to record an early episode of the podcast with him. It's clearly an early episode, but my Grandpa was so generous with his time and his stories. It's one of the best ways I can think to honor him is by revisiting the time he did something ridiculous for his grandson. COPD is a major cause of disability, and it’s the third leading cause of death in the United States. Currently, millions of people are diagnosed with COPD. Many more people may have the disease and not even know it. COPD develops slowly. Symptoms often worsen over time and can limit your ability to do routine activities. Severe COPD may prevent you from doing even basic activities like walking, cooking, or taking care of yourself. Most of the time, COPD is diagnosed in middle-aged or older adults. The disease isn’t passed from person to person—you can’t catch it from someone else. COPD has no cure yet, and doctors don’t know how to reverse the damage to the airways and lungs. However, treatments and lifestyle changes can help you feel better, stay more active, and slow the progress of the disease.**  ** taken from www.right2breathe.org   Links from show: http://www.right2breathe.com http://www.copdfoundation.org/ http://www.facebook.com/right2breathe http://www.aarc.org/ Good Cents (smart phone app) https://www.thisisbodhi.com http://www.bni.com   Book recommendations: 7 habits of Highly Effective People - Stephan R.
