Jeff and his partner Julie were the team behind one of the most maverick independent touring companies “Intense Touring”. 
The first person to bring Mr Bungle and Mike Patton to Australia, Nirvana (before anyone knew who they were), The Damned, Impaled Nazarene, Mark Of Cain, Neil Hamburger, Canned Hamm, Faxed Head, Phantom Surfers, Secret Chiefs, Blowfly, Crispin Glover and so many more. 
Jeff and Julie went beyond what promotors usually do, taking bands into their own home, creating intense personal relationships and sharing the experience with their friends and fellow performers. 
Why that is how the Mu Mesons got to support Mike Patton. 
Remaining vehemently outside of the system and with no support from funding bodies. 
Intense Touring brought some of the most unusual, cutting edge and profound acts to Australian shores. 
They say inside every promotor is a stilted performer, well over the course of time that repression lifted and manifested as one of the worlds most frightening parlour magicians. 
Jeff became Dr El Suavo. 
He has toured internationally and extensively within Australia as the support act to Neil Hamburger. 
He has a tendency to polarise audiences with his most unique blend of standup comedy and parlour magic, you can either take him or leave him but my god he has also released two albums under that moniker. 
I cannot count how many times I have stood on stage, wiped my brow in exasperation and said “Ladies and Gentleman I now present: Dr El Suavo”

Time serves as the ultimate judgment upon the impact and power of ones art. Now nearly 60 years later people are beginning to realise the philosophical and poetic depth within the writings of Joseph Stefano. Stefano was the man who adapted Robert Bloch's `novel into the screen play that became Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho". More importantly he was the unsung genius behind the bulk of the episodes of the small screens first season of the science fiction anthology series "Outer Limits". Never before had the human condition been explored so profoundly than this imaginative foray into science fiction and fantasy and gothic horror. (I will argue that Rod Serling came close but Stefano took it to a whole new level) Radical in his approach, constantly outwitting the censors Joseph elevated the intellect of his audiences by serving allegories that danced macabre and pinched the nerve of our psychic disorders. All these decades later historians and critics are singing his praises. Dan Rash not only has sung his praises but has taken it one step further by doing an immaculate job of editing and curating some of Stefano's most astounding shooting scripts for Outer Limits including quite a few that never made it to air. We were honoured to have the opportunity to speak to Dan about the passionate drive that led to his forth coming book that celebrates Stefano's writings. Dan is not just a fan but has now concreted his role as a film historian in the construction of the book "From The Inner Mind to the Outer Limits Volume One". Having worked as a reporter, producer and presenter for triple j, Steve Cannane also presented Hack, triple j's current affairs show, for two and a half years until July 2006. In 2006 he won the Walkley Award for Broadcast Interviewing for a series of three interviews - Petrol Sniffing, Pilltesting and The Cost of War while he was also commended in the same category of the Walkleys in 2005. In 2006 Steve won the Excellence in Alcohol and Drug Media Reporting Award at the National Drug and Alcohol Awards and visited the US as the Australian representative on the US Department of State's Edward R Murrow program for journalists. He currently presents The Drum on ABC News 24 and is a reporter at Lateline. Steve was the founding presenter of triple j's current affairs program Hack and presented The Hack Half Hour on ABC2. He also fronted the ABC 1 documentary series Whatever: The Science of Teenagers and has published a book First Tests: Great Australian Cricketers and the Backyards That Made Them. Two of Australias most profound/extraordinary musicians & performers that have travelled and traversed many bands and many lands. The Moodists, the White Buffaloes, the Coral Snakes & the Dave Graney show are just a few of the incantations you will at least find Dave appearing in. Today, going under the title of The Lurid Yellow Mist inspired directly from the Jack Arnold film “The Incredible Shrinking Man” Dave & Clare form an unstoppable duo that takes music and its lyricism and arrangements to the levels thought unachievable. Like Serge Gainsbourg, Lee Hazlewood & Roy Orbison with the satirical sting of possibly Kim Fowley at his best moments, they make pop music sound like an opera. There love for each other is evident in their creativity, and you will find them at some of the most obscure locations this country can offer to perform. Literally standing head and shoulders above the rest and erring on the side of humility, they remain the perfect example of magical creativity can be. Always supportive of the underdog and we guess that is why they have ended up on the Naked World podcast. Having performed with some of the greatest names in the musical arena internationally as well as local, they still find time for Jay Katz & Miss Death. Dave is not a just a raconteur, performer and screen star but also an incredibly incisive author, who has bared his soul in print. Simone Turkington is the quintessential example of creatively following ones passions. An epiphany on the dance floor let Simone back to her childhood love of parlour magic. After much intense training she is now one of very few female magicians. Simone has now been accepted by the prestigious magic castle and performs their regularly. Oh and by the way, she also happens to the wife of Americas number #1 funny man: Gregg Turkington aka Neil Hamburger When her father selected a deck of cards as his prize at a carnival shooting gallery, Simone was stunned by his boring choice. "It's a MAGIC deck of cards!" he told her. "I got it for you." Noting her enthusiasm for magic on television, he hoped to encourage her interest with this prize. And encourage it did. Using the deck and its instructions, Simone performed her first magic show at school assembly, aged 9, cementing her love of magic and performing from an early age. Years passed and magic faded away to make room for music fandom and seeing rock shows around the world which would be her focus for the next 20 years. But once the bands she followed had washed up, broken up and reunited again, so did Simone with magic. In her thirties with a husband and child under her belt, what better time in one's life to pursue the not-at-all lucrative path of a magician? Now living in Los Angeles, a far cry from Australia where she started, Simone was able to take classes at the world famous Magic Castle, a private club for magicians. She soon passed her audition to become a magician member and began performing both solo and as part of a rare female magic duo, Mystiki. A long time devotee to classy vintage styles, Simone brings the sights and sounds of the 60s to her magic, not often seen (unless you watch a lot of videos of magic from the 60s.) A mix of visual, card, and mentalism effects make up her repertoire. Simone is a member of the prestigious Academy of Magical Arts at the Magic Castle where she performs in one of the main showrooms, The Parlour of Prestidigitation. For four years she was a board member for the Women Magicians Association and The Academy of Magical Arts' Women In Magic committee. She writes reviews of magic books, videos and props for The Linking Ring monthly magic magazine. Simone is available for strolling or close-up magic which sees the magician wowing guests at your party or event with intimate, one-on-one magical experiences, entertaining small clusters of people throughout the evening. Much of Simone's performance experience is in parlour magic which are larger effects than seen in close-up settings. Parlour shows are suited to moderately sized audiences for variety or cabaret shows in clubs or small theatres, but also homes or parties. Parlours were where magicians would entertain in Victorian homes.

Jay Katz & Miss Death sat down with one of the most prolific exploitation directors of all time: William Grefe - broadcasting from Florida at the age of 90. If there were rules to filmmaking, one director would break them all! From the 1960's to the 1990's, writer/director William Grefé was grinding out exploitation films for drive-ins and hardtops across the globe. As a Miami-based regional filmmaker, he utilised the darkest corners of the Florida Everglades as his personal studio backlot. Killer sharks and human jellyfish and living mummies, oh my! Today on our show we have a dear friend of ours who has supported the Mu Meson Archives for many years and gave us the time out of his busy schedule to sit down with us and chat about us his fabulous career. Born with celluloid coursing through his veins, Trenchard-Smith made his first film at the age of 15. Four years later, he received his first commissioned assignment, which led to a job at a French news channel stationed in London. In 1965, he moved to Australia, just a handful of years before the Australian New Wave and Australian Exploitation, known colloquially as “Ozploitation,” burst on to the world cinema stage. The former were ethereal art house movies, occasionally vying for the Best Foreign Film award at each year's Oscars ceremony; the latter were genre films packed with action, laced with nudity and bursting with energy. We are honoured to have had the rare opportunity to interview one of the most remarkable authors and heroes of counter culture, Jimmy McDonough. A humble man with loads of charisma & humility and refused to go on camera, so we complied with his conditions and therefore this podcast is audio only. Meticulous in his research, obsessive & passionate in his writing, Jimmy sheds light on some of the most profound yet neglected artists of the 20th century. We first came across his writings in the pages of the fanzine, Sleazoid Express (A Mind-Twisting Tour Through the Grindhouse Cinema of Times Square) Not an observers look at the decline of Grindhouse Cinema on 42nd Street, but a true participant at the hellish edge of celluloids demise. Jimmy saturates himself in the details of every subject he pursues. The greatest example of this is his work on poverty row filmmaker Andy Milligan: The Ghastly Ones. In which he moved into Andy's home, assisted & starred in his later productions and finally nursed him to his death. A poet laureate on the scale of Tennessee Williams, Henry Miller, Harold Pinter and William Burrows. We are fortunate to have this rare breed of raconteur, artist, writer and 3D photographer, living on this planet at the same time we are. Believe us, the rest will be in the history books.

Jay Katz and Miss death sit down with one of Australia's finest & most underrated filmmakers/raconteurs Haydn Keenan Haydn has made some of the most unique and original motion pictures ever produced in Australia. For the last 50 years he has managed the production house Smart Street Films Formed by Haydn and Esben Storm In 1982 Haydn directed the counter culture gem Going Down - A searing vision of a Sydney rarely seen by tourists but one that is just below the surface. A cult hit, this film has been described by Phillip Adams as one of the ten best films made in the country. It is the story of four young women on the town the night before one of the group goes to New York. Their adolescence, their group and their future is breaking up in an exuberant gesture of defiance. In 1987 Haydn directed the most bat shit crazy and insanely bonkers film ever made in Australia - which is now virtually lost - PANDEMONIUM - is a riotous satirical comedy in which many of the sacred cows of Australian society are slaughtered. It tells the story of a quintessential Hollywood innocent and her search for parents who abandoned her to her fate many years before at Ayer's Rock. Her search takes her to a disused film studio at Bondi Beach where she discovers a bizarre netherworld populated by redundant social myths. In 2014 Haydn found himself taking on ASIO with the remarkable 4 part series Persons Of Interest In each episode of this Award winning series a Person Of Interest is given their previously secret ASIO intelligence file, and asked to respond to the allegations it contains. The four Persons Of Interest are Roger Milliss, Michael Hyde, Gary Foley and Frank Hardy. For forty years the Australian Intelligence & Security Organistion (ASIO) hunted spies and subversives. In the process it opened files on students, unionists, Aboriginal activists, and writers and as many as half a million other citizens. Persons Of Interest shows how things really happened in this dirty war against dissent. Using actual files, recently discovered secret surveillance film and photographs, these films are the personal stories of lives under the microscope of Government surveillance. In light of the Snowden, NSA scandal and with ASIO possessing more power than ever - Persons Of Interest is a timely addition to the debate. Jay Katz & Miss Death sit down with Holly Payne She is a filmmaker, writer, improviser, producer, traveler, thrifter, sometimes stylist, podcaster, activist and bionic woman. She produced the crowd funded documentary "The Death Of Superman Lives: What Happened?" with her maverick partner - the late great Jon Schnepp The Death of Superman Lives; What Happened? delves into one of Hollywood's most enthralling 'what could have been' stories. In 1996, Warner Brothers engaged Kevin Smith to write the screenplay ('Superman Lives'). Director Tim Burton assembled an elite group of artists to work on Superman Lives, including Nicolas Cage as Superman. Warner Brothers scrapped the project shortly before principal photography began The film received praise from critics. Chris Stuckmann (film critic) wrote: This well-researched documentary provides a fun and intriguing answer to one of cinemas strangest questions: What if Nicolas Cage had portrayed Superman?

What an honour, a privilege and a pleasure to meet our cultural hero with his extraordinary partner in crime for the first time live on “Naked World” our visual pandemic podcast. It been many decades now that Miss Death and I have been more than aware of the incredible creative power of V. Vale (Vale Hamanaka) through his extensive documentation of underground and outsider culture. Writer, publisher, musician, historian and culture jammer whose seminal publications “Search and Destroy” and “Research” altered the course of counter cultural history. We sat down recently (during lockdown) to zoom into the home of Marian Wallace and Valhalla Vale for this candid and grass roots discussion on all that is Research and their life together. Marian is so natural and relaxed that she is perpetually in and out of the frame as she goes about her daily lockdown activities with Vale by her side. He on the other hand is entirely focused on the interview. If fringe culture does not have a champion to promote its cause, then history will remain oblivious of its nuances and even its existence. Most times the ground breakers can only break the ground. That's where Vale stepped in, recognising early in the piece that revolutionary movements in the arts deserved legitimate acknowledgement and documentation. His zines and books certainly did just that. The “Industrial Culture Handbook” gave academic respect to the avant garde genre of music deemed Industrial and “Modern Primitives” may have been single handily been responsible for the ubiquitous modern-day popularity of the tattoo. The power of these publications is double barrelled in their effect, they not only captured underground culture of the time but also altered it, sometimes considerably. He is a true media assassin graced with a meticulous eye for detail and stylism. Vale's extensive publications will be referenced long into the future with an enduring sense of awe. Eclectic in his approach, Incredibly Strange Films, Incredibly Strange Music, Freaks, Zines, J.G.Ballard, Swing and Pranks are just a few areas of his Research in publicised form. ‘Sinatra, Presley, Jagger, Popeye and now Duffo.' — Andy Warhol 1980 ‘I don't think it's overstating the case to say that, had Jeff Duff hailed from a country in the top half of the world, he could now be as acknowledged and acclaimed as David Bowie or Lou Reed or Iggy Pop.' — Glenn A. Baker, rock historian IN A FLAMBOYANT AND OFTEN CONTROVERSIAL MUSIC CAREER JEFF HAS RELEASED THIRTY ALBUMS INCLUDING A RECENT ALBUM WITH MEMBERS OF LEGENDARY BRITISH ROCK BAND DEEP PURPLE. When Duffo took refuge in England in the eighties, he had, as they say, worn out his welcome in Australian rock. He was simply too much of a handful, this ‘waif with a wharfie's voice!' camping it up out front of his trail-blazing rock ensemble ‘Kush‘. At the time, Jeff's androgynous stage persona, dressed in leotards, garish make-up and a touch of the operatics was considered far too outrageous for many Australian audiences. Duff moved to the UK in 1978 where he recorded and performed as Duffo, releasing several albums, touring Europe and having sporadic chart success in Holland and Italy. He also recorded under the names Ivor Biggin and Jupiter Jones. It was somewhat surprising to see him return to Australia to indifferent audiences in 1988, when he performed as a jazz singer with his Jeff Duff Orchestra, an experimental outfit. His signature song remains Lou Reed's ‘Walk On The Wild Side', which he has recorded at least three times. The Jeff Duff Orchestra album featured some reworking of older material, ‘Pilot' and the excellent ‘Killing This Affair'.

Jay Katz and Miss Death sit down with the ultra talented Christa Hughes. She is an Australian singer, circus performer and comedian. She utilises wild on-stage antics and her powerful voice. From age 15, she has done gigs with her father, jazz pianist and journalist Dick Hughes. She was the vocalist for the band Machine Gun Fellatio, as KK Juggy, from 2000-2005. Alongside her solo career, Hughes was also the Ring Mistress with Circus Oz (2006-2008)
