Laugh Tracks Legends of Comedy with Randy and Steve

While today he is best remembered for an iconic television character, today's Legend also has deep roots as a stand-up comic -- one with a particularly biting and intelligent approach. We're talking about Richard Belzer, who surmounted a difficult childhood through comedy. After moving to New York as a young man Belzer immersed himself in a burgeoning satirical scene, cutting tracks for the National Lampoon Radio Hour, serving as the warm-up comic for SNL, and even acting as the opening act for Warren Zevon on his Excitable Boy tour. Today, Belzer has a whole different fan base who discovered him during his 23 year run as Detective John Munch in the long-running Law and Order television franchise (beginning with Homicide: Life on the Streets). As played by Belzer, Munch was sarcastic, whip-smart, cynical, prone to conspiracy theories, and highly entertaining -- just like his creator. As always, find extra clips below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Belzer? Belzer's first appearance on Letterman broke him with a much wider audience and is a great sample of his style. https://youtu.be/r5uK9pGIzW8?si=G-_nnBFyVuv2kCds Belzer's character John Munch on Homicide: Life on the streets was streetwise, cynical, and very funny. Here's a cut of some of Munch's best asides. https://youtu.be/7wOxN3P0BDo?si=8vpXiMm37mLmFY3t

...These Are Their Stories: The Law & Order Podcast

Benson and Stabler have an open-and-shut case against psycho killer Peter Harrison. But annoying lab tech Dale Stuckey makes an error with the bloody knife, leaving Judge Donnelly no choice but to set the suspect free. Munch and Fin tail Harrison to Coney Island and "chase" him through a fun house before another body is discovered. Soon the detectives are dealing with booby traps, secret lairs with secret tunnels, poison-filled needles and poison-filled gas. Munch reaches out to his mentally ill ex-wife (Carol Kane) to help capture the elusive culprit. While visiting the crime lab, Stabler discovers the killer's DNA belongs to Stuckey. After taking Elliot hostage, he admits to framing Harrison and targeting those who've embarrassed him. Benson tricks Stuckey into thinking she loves him by slapping the hell out of Stabler. When Olivia goes in for a kiss, Elliot kicks Stuckey and knocks him out. We're going back to our October 11, 2017 episode to look at Special Victims Unit season 10 episode 22 "Zebras." Our guest is from the "In Trouble for Talking" podcast, Sonia Sells. The episode takes some cues from the life of SVU regular Richard Belzer. The Paradoxes of Time Travel Through Dreams, Premonitions & Ancient Stargates George Noory, host of the nationally syndicated Coast to Coast AM, says if he weren't hosting a national radio talk show, he'd be in politics. Heard by millions of listeners, Coast To Coast AM airs on nearly 620 stations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Guam. While hosting The Nighthawk, a highly successful late-night show on KTRS in St. Louis, Noory was recruited by Premiere Radio Networks to guest host Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell. He became the permanent host of the phenomenally successful late-night show on January 1, 2003, following Bell's retirement. Since then, Noory's audience has continued to grow. Noory captivates the show's listeners with his discussions of paranormal phenomena, time travel, alien abductions, conspiracies and all things curious and unexplained. He is driven, he says, by a desire to solve the great mysteries of our time. From his early days as a radio host, he says, “I wanted to cover stories that the mainstream media never covered—the unusual, the paranormal, and things like that. I learned that broadcasting was the best business to explore those issues, and I've been doing that for 33 years.” He traces his interest in these subjects to a book by Walter Sullivan, We Are Not Alone, that his mother gave him when he was 13. Prior to his nightly show on KTRS, Noory had an extensive broadcasting career. He got his start in radio at WCAR-AM in Detroit, where his first interview was with nuclear physicist and UFO expert Stanton Friedman. From 1974 to 1978, he served as a news producer and executive news producer at WJBK-TV. At age 28, he became the youngest market news director in the country at KMSP-TV in Minneapolis. Noory was also the news planning and development director for KSTP-TV in Minneapolis, news director for KSDK-TV in St. Louis, and a three-time Emmy Award-winning news executive. Noory released his first book in 2006. Lightworker: Unlock Your Five Senses and Unleash Your Unlimited Potential, co-written with bestselling author William J. Birnes, is Noory's groundbreaking guide to spiritual enlightenment, human empowerment, increased productivity, and ultimate happiness. Noory and Birnes co-authored a 2009 sequel titled Journey to the Light, which provides incredible firsthand accounts of how ordinary people changed their lives, transcended their doubts and fears, and unlocked the secrets to their spiritual growth. In October 2011, Noory released his third book, Talking To The Dead. Co-written by Rosemary Ellen Guiley, one of the world's leading experts on the paranormal and supernatural, the book explores the colorful history and personalities behind spirit communications, interweaving spirituality, metaphysics, science, and technology. Noory, along with Richard Belzer and David Wayne, released Someone's Hiding Something: What Happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight 370? in February 2015. Examining the theories that the media and politicians claim are the “most likely” reasons for the plane's crash, they argue that if a year after the disappearance of a massive Boeing 777 and there's still no sign of it, it's time to think outside the box. In December 2012, GAIAM TV launched “Beyond Belief with George Noory,” a new TV show that explores the unknown and mysteries of the universe. The weekly hour-long series features informative, investigative, and dynamic conversations with Noory, as well as some of his favorite radio show guests. Recorded at GAIAM Studios in Boulder, Colorado, Beyond Belief with George Noory is available exclusively at Beyondbelief.com . Richard Lewis, a cherished figure in American comedy and renowned for his roles, including a fictionalized version of himself on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm, passed away last night at his Los Angeles residence following a heart attack. He was 76.His publicist, Jeff Abraham, confirmed his demise. Lewis had been battling Parkinson's disease, a condition he disclosed in April 2023."His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, expresses gratitude for the outpouring of love, companionship, and support, and requests privacy during this period," Abraham stated.Richard Philip Lewis, born in Brooklyn on June 29, 1947, emerged onto the comedy scenes of New York and Los Angeles in the 1970s alongside future luminaries like Andy Kaufman, Richard Belzer, and Elayne Boosler. Rapidly gaining traction, he became a regular on late-night programs such as The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, crafting a distinctive onstage persona as somber as his trademark all-black attire. His stand-up routines were often likened to a blend of comedy and therapy.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/daily-comedy-news-the-daily-show-about-comedians-and-comedy--4522158/support.

When the final notes of the year resonate through the air, it's time to gather 'round for a special gathering of minds and melodies. This is precisely what Host Scott McLean did, inviting Mark Smith and Luke Alicchio from the Music Relish show to share the microphone for an episode brimming with heartfelt tributes and uproarious tales. As we bid farewell to musical greats like David Crosby and Lisa Loring, we also crack open the vault of pop culture, examining the enduring charm of wrestling figures, the intrigue of indoor block parties, and the peculiarities of fame à la "Searching for Sugar Man."Navigating the blurred lines between laughter and nostalgia, our conversation meanders from the impact of aging rock stars to the influence of television legends like Norman Lear. We find ourselves knee-deep in discussions about Richard Belzer's comedic roots and John C. Reilly's versatility, all while reflecting on personal holiday traditions and the wine that probably shouldn't have been opened. Through it all, our banter embodies the essence of music and memories, of personal stories woven into the larger tapestry of life.Tying up the year with a musical bow, we share our favorite songs with unforgettable endings, from the orchestral climax of "A Day in the Life" to the extended jam of Lynyrd Skynyrd's live "Free Bird." We also hop in our time machine, traveling back to 1979 to dissect the top singles that defined a year on the cusp of a new decade. It's an episode that refuses to fade out quietly, just like the classic tracks we pay homage to. So turn up the volume and join us for a finale that's as eclectic and vibrant as the year itself, captured in the rhythm of our collective stories.

On this Monday edition of Sid and Friends in the Morning, Sid is once again joined by his semi-weekly co-host Andrew Giuliani on this Presidents Day. Speaking of Presidents Day, mere moments before the show began, Joe Biden touched down in Kyiv, Ukraine on the one-year anniversary of Russia's initial invasion. That trip only lasted a couple hours before the president darted out onto another place that is isn't the country he oversees. From one president to another, Trump retires his "Meatball Ron" slogan after pushback, but don't let that make you think he's done targeting him with insults. From one former president to another, the 39th President Jimmy Carter has been placed in hospice in his home, leaving everyone to assume the inevitable. The 98-year old Georgian may not be revered as one of the all time great presidents -- rather the complete opposite -- but his humanitarian efforts after his time in the Oval Office. One famous person that did pass away, unfortunately, was comedian and actor Richard Belzer, as Sid and Andrew reflect on their memories of his work. In non-presidential news, the NBA may have a serious problem with their All Star game format after the defense-less event some were forced to witness last night.
