The details were super interesting and the time got away from me.Also, the specifics of this story are VERY disturbing. It involves rape, beastiality, and descriptions that I don't always go into. If you're sensitive to certain aspects, this may not be the episode for you.*******Peter Kürten A.K.A ``The Vampire of Düsseldorf" and the "Düsseldorf Monster", was a German serial killer who committed a series of murders and sexual assaults between February and November 1929 in the city of Düsseldorf. In the years before these assaults and murders, Kürten had amassed a lengthy criminal record for offenses including arson and attempted murder. He became known as the vampire of Düsseldorf because he made attempts to drink the blood from his victims' wounds. In the pursuit of an idyllic lifestyle and freedom, a couple from Chicago bought a secluded property, far away from the modern big cities. They wanted to become closer to nature, and be free from prying eyes into their hedonistic lifestyle. The local legend has it, that the land is haunted by the devil and the souls of the murdered owners. Some people claim to have heard screams or the barking of phantom dogs, as well as to have seen the glowing eyes of two mastiffs… even sometimes shadowy figures roaming, and standing guard over the property. But why would the land be haunted by the devil, you may ask? Well... the thing is that the main subject of today's story, Charles Scudder, was an openly gay member of the Church of Satan, and the property he chose to purchase was located in a small, sleepy town in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia.Following the murders, some people believed that it was a satanic-related crime. The 22-year-old Gabby Petito's missing person case ended with the worst possible outcome. Gabby Petito and her fiance, Brian Laundrie, planned a four-month-long trip. After many months of saving money, putting all of their affairs in order, and preparing their dream camping van, they were ready to set off in July 2021.  The cross-country trip started as expected, as many beautiful pictures and videos documenting the journey were posted. However, in the last days of August, Gabby—a previously frequent Instagram user—went silent forever. Brian came back home ALONE at the beginning of September and remained tight-lipped regarding Gabby's whereabouts.  Unlike some old true crime cases from the 20th century from Netflix documentaries with grainy interviews, this case unfolded right in front of our eyes. It was all over-in the TV news, TikTok video speculations, and Instagram posts. The search truly unified the nation in the search for the missing Van-Life blogger. Do you think you could recognize a serial killer in real life? What if you met such a person in a place where you would naturally assume that no one would or could hurt you on purpose? Serial killers don't wear tacky masks, carry a chainsaw, or stare unblinkingly while sipping chianti. Horror movies leave a false impression, that some obvious signs in their looks or behavior would be an instant red flag. Real life isn't so simple. Real evil people can seamlessly blend into the fabric of society and give their victims a false sense of security. One of the places where we lower our guard is a hospital. We trust the doctors and nurses with our lives, literally. That's where killers in the medical world feel like kids in a candy store. Sometimes the underlying motivation of some killers are traits that are commonly regarded as honorable. An uncontrollable desire to save people and be recognized as a hero fueled Richard Angelo. He signed up as a volunteer fireman at the earliest possible age. After graduation as a top student, he became the night supervisor at a hospital's special care unit… gaining access to some of the most vulnerable patients. Richard aspired to make himself a "hero" by arriving on the scene just in time to "save" his victims, so he came up with a clever plan to administer a deadly cocktail of paralyzing drugs. He killed 25 patients before being discovered. Subscribe and share 10 Minute Murder with your true crime loving friends. A 16-year-old teenager from Kentucky founded a cult called "The Vampire Clan”. He hunted for young men, engaging in manipulative sexual relationships with them, while creating an imbalance of power. Which psychological horror film influenced this serial killer so much he heard a click inside his head and went for a kill? What caused him to experiment on his victims with drain cleaners and electric shocks and document these actions with 334 polaroids? Their harmonious lives, which were filled with social meetings, picnics and church events, were interrupted one bloody night 63 years ago. Herb, with his wife Bonnie, and two of his four children were killed November 15, 1959 by intruders who entered their home with the intent of robbery. This small community had never experienced such a brutal and pointless crime before. The events inspired Truman Capote to write his true crime bestseller. Jaimie was able to survive by pretending to be dead, but her mother was fatally stabbed over 32 times with knives and a machete. Authorities had no idea who could have done this until a teenage boy told his mother he needed to talk with the police. Most of his victims would suffocate from having various objects shoved down their throats. Gary slayed six men, but the police knew exactly who he was just after the first murder. It would take them eight months to finally identify him as what they called the “I-95 Killer,” but only after Gary revealed himself to them. How was he able to conceal his identity and evade police, even when sitting directly across from them? A string of murders between 1911 and 1912 created a culture of fear and chaos in Louisiana. Investigators thought they had their man. He didn't put up much of a fight during his own trial and even his own family testified against him. It turns out, he wasn't actually responsible for murdering all of those african american families with an axe, but someone close to him was trying to make sure he took the fall… in the name of the church. They thought he was a freak and handicapped, but he would show them just how powerful he was. Yeah, his hands could have been used for good and could have continued the good name of the family business… but he chose a different path. An abusive, violent path and because of this, he became hated in his community. He had done awful things and had not been held accountable. Because of this, his overinflated ego had created blindspots for the people coming for him. …people who would have their justice one way or another, no matter the cost. The acting jobs had dried up for the most part, along with the the stardom, the fandom…all the admiration…all the opportunity. And now what did he have? Fantasies are okay… completely normal, right? For a family man with a mundane existence, life was fine... in a plain, uneventful kind of way. He didn't mind the appearance of his outwardly boring existence... because that façade served him well and kept his fantasies out of sight and concealed enough to not be found out. This seemingly ordinary life helped to keep the internal rotten vein running through him a secret. But what would happen when Robert Leroy Anderson shared his deep, dark and vile secret?   (EDIT: This episode should have ended with the information that Robert Leroy Anderson used a bedsheet to hang himself in prison in 2003. Somehow that didn't make it in.) Subscribe and share 10 Minute Murder with your true crime loving friends.
