In this episode we welcome the great Paul Gambaccini into RBP's world and ask him about his 50+ years as one of Britain's best-loved broadcasters. "The Great Gambo" tells us about his early radio days at Dartmouth College's WDCR station and explains how he slipped his foot in the door at Rolling Stone in 1970. He then recounts his first meeting with "underground deejay" John Peel (plus his BBC producer John Walters) while still an Oxford postgraduate fleeing Richard Nixon's America, We ask our guest about his famous Stone interviews with Elton John (and Bernie Taupin) and Paul McCartney, then hear about his Radio 1 debut in 1974. Paul discusses his sexuality, his winding up on the Beeb's "Christmas tree" list, and his nightmare year of being witch-hunted without evidence by the sleuths of Operation Yewtree. After offering his thoughts on the constitutional crisis in his homeland, our guest expresses his approval of Beyoncé ahead of her "Cowboy Carter" tour's London leg in June. We listen to clips from a 2003 audio interview with "Queen Bey" by The Observer Music Monthly's Simon Garfield. After Mark quotes from newly-added interviews with Elvis Presley (1969) and Roxy Music's (Brian) Eno (1973), Jasper talks us out with his thoughts on pieces about the Roots (2005) and Beyoncé's sister Solange (2007). Many thanks to special guest Paul Gambaccini. Hear his radio shows on the air, including the Paul Gambaccini Collection on BBC Radio 2. Pieces discussed: Paul Gambaccini's writer's page on RBP, The Rolling Stone Interview: Elton John, Paul McCartney, Beyoncé audio, Elvis the Husband talks about Elvis the Pelvis, The Strange World of Roxy Music, The Roots: Growing Underground, Romanthony: A Prince Among Men and Why Solange Matters.

Landing a job as a pro race driver takes talent, hard work, and a truckload of money.Or sometimes just money. And some people do it for giggles, as a hobby. (You know, like knitting! Just with more Senna inspo quotes.)This show changes formats weekly, because squirrel. We call this ep's format “MY LIFE WITH.” It's where an INTC host tells the story of how they came to understand a complex racing topic over their working life. In this case, that means Jeff, his career as a champion race engineer, and the unique species that is the amateur—a.k.a. “semi-pro” or “pay”—driver in professional motorsport!RELATED TRIVIA: Jeff is currently knee-deep in prep for this weekend's IMSA race at Laguna. Ross is on One Lap of America, hucking around the country in a Civic Type R. And in the most exciting news of all, Sam just got back from the grocery, where he discovered a jam-filled French cookie that tastes almost exactly like a raspberry Pop-Tart.(If you no longer go for gnarly French jam cookie, you are no longer… etc.)This episode was produced by Mike Perlman.**Who We Are + Spicy Merch:www.ItsNotTheCar.com**Support It's Not the Car:Contribute on Patreon www.patreon.com/notthecar**Topic suggestions, feedback, questions? Originally Recorded on Sunday January 26th, 2025, and Sunday February 2nd, 2025. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Hey there, fans! That Horror Show Podcast embraces the new year with a brand-new episode featuring the return of Brazilian filmmaker Jose Mojica Marins' iconic character Coffin Joe (or 'Ze do Caixao' in his native Portuguese language). Show hosts Timothy Kazda and Chris Koenig reviewed three official Coffin Joe movies back in 2017 (memories!) and thought that was the end of the long-fingernailed, top hat-black wardrobe wearing coffin maker-turned-evil madman. But, as fate would have it, Coffin Joe showed up in a few "unofficial" movies, so it was inevitable the hosts would tackle them for review. So, for Part 1 of this episode: Coffin Joe goes 'Crypt Keeper' in "The Strange World of Coffin Joe" (1968) featuring three tales of bizarre terror, while "The Awakening of the Beast" (1969) is a "shockumentary"-type feature in which Brazilian society is going down the tubes and it all in some drug-induced way involves good ol' Joe! And for a bonus: Nate from 'Kids Corner' gives his take on "Halloween Kills" (2021). So what are you waiting for, fans? Give this episode a little spin!

In this episode of Casual Chats, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2024 Disney animated movie Moana 2, the sequel to the 2016 animated film Moana. Originally, Moana 2 was supposed to be a Disney+ series, but was released in theaters due to the poor box office performances of Strange World and Wish. Years set after the events of the first film, Moana is a Wayfinder traveling to search for other people in other islands. When she receives a vision from her ancestor that an island that connected all of their people is under the ocean thanks to a god named Nalo and that if she doesn't raise it before a certain time, their people would be extinct. Together with a crew consisting of an old farmer, a tinkerer, and a Maui fan, they have a journey to locate the island, rescue Maui from a bat god who is trapped on a clam, and raise the island before it's too late. When the film premiered in theaters, it made $700 million dollars out of a $150 million dollar budget receiving mixed reviews from critics and viewers calling in an inferior movie compared to the original with a lackluster story, unmemorable songs, and forgettable characters. What did Arun and Patricia think of the film? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/old-school-lane/support

In the 1840s, a strange, secretive community known as the Agapemonites set up camp in Spaxton, Somerset. Presided over by a rogue Anglican priest who believed he had a hotline to god, this religious cult attracted wealthy members in search of a deeper connection to the Lord. But once they had handed over their worldy possessions in order to join, the Agapemonites found it was rather harder to leave. Speaking to Ellie Cawthorne, Stuart Flinders explores their story, from triple marriages and spiritual wives, to financial exploitation and suicide. "The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are once more tackling two similar movies released closely, this time the twins of 1998 college murder schemes, with the more star-studded "Dead Man on Campus" plays its premise for lackluster dark comedy, the indie noir thiller "The Curve," formerly titled "Dead Man's Curve," is an absurd movie that overdoses on twists that undo every logical aspect about the plotting, all in the name of being seen cool but failing so badly. It's a new favorite of Ben's, and maybe it will be for you too. Available on Apple and Spotify Episode 364 includes: -We've lost a key Power Ranger. It's mournin' time. -Nate shares thoughts on "The Menu," "My Son Hunter," "Black Panther 2," and "Smile." -Disney's "Strange World" is a movie best worth waiting for being on TV. -Double or Nothing -- "Dead Man on Campus" / "The Curve" -The guys discuss the two weirdly similar movies, both about schemes to get straights As by pushing a collegiate roommate to kill themself, and one of them is a middling dark comedy and the other is one of the most hilariously ridiculous examples of twist-overdose Tarantino-knockoff neo-noir that the late 90s indie scene has to offer. Ben declares "The Curve" a new addition to his favorite so-bad-it's-good movies."

Welcome to the perplexing world of quantum mechanics, where the rules of reality bend and twist in ways that challenge our fundamental understanding of the universe. This field of physics delves into the behavior of particles at the smallest scales, revealing a realm where probabilities reign supreme and certainty is elusive.Imagine a world where particles can exist in multiple states at once, only collapsing into a single state when observed. This phenomenon, known as superposition, defies our everyday experiences and invites us to reconsider what we know about existence itself. Quantum entanglement further complicates matters; it describes how particles can become intertwined in such a way that the state of one instantly influences another, regardless of distance. The implications of quantum mechanics extend far beyond theoretical musings—they are reshaping technology as we know it. From advancements in quantum computing to breakthroughs in secure communication through quantum cryptography, this enigmatic field offers solutions that could revolutionize industries. As we continue to explore this perplexing domain, it becomes clear that understanding quantum mechanics is not just an academic pursuit; it's essential for grasping the very fabric of reality and harnessing its potential for future innovations. Embrace the mystery and let curiosity guide you through this fascinating journey!

Do you know what the most popular and least popular car colors are? What's so interesting is that buying a car that is an unpopular color can actually increase the resale value of the car over one that is a more popular color. Listen as I explain how this works. Source: Westways Magazine Summer 2024 / article “Color Considerations” What's the best way to learn something really well? Is it to have a great coach or practice, practice, practice or – what? Why do some people master a skill better than others – is it just raw talent that separates the good from the great? Well, if you have ever wondered about this, you have to listen to my discussion with Scott Young. He is a writer whose work has been featured in the New York Times, and Business Insider, on the BBC. Scott is the host of The Scott Young Podcast https://www.scotthyoung.com/blog/podcast/and author of the book Get Better at Anything: 12 Maxims for Mastery (https://amzn.to/3JOQ60k). What is a tattoo? Why do people get them? Do people often regret getting them? Tattoos have been around for thousands of years, and it seems a lot more people have tattoos today than in the past. What is the appeal? Here to discuss all this and take us inside the world of tattoos is Matt Lodder. He is one of the world's leading experts on tattoos as well as a senior lecturer in art history and theory at the University of Essex. He is author of the book Painted People: 5,000 Years of Tattooed History from Sailors and Socialites to Mummies and Kings (https://amzn.to/4bdVJlb).  I don't know if you hum much – but you should.
