    64. The "Last Supper" Mentality

    Have you ever been about to start a new eating plan, but before it officially starts, you have one last meal where you eat everything you won't be able to eat starting tomorrow? If so, you've likely engaged in "last supper" thinking. Last supper thinking happens when you decide to deny yourself food you love because you think it's bad or unhealthy. The problem is, when you plan to deny yourself, you end up eating as much of that food as you possibly can.  It's your way of saying goodbye to that food. It may make sense in the moment, but this strategy is ineffective in the long run. It promotes overeating, binging, guilt, and restriction.     Have you ever felt like you can't stop eating your favorite food? Do you worry that if you give yourself unlimited permission to eat what you want, you won't be able to stop eating? Food habituation happens when your over-desire for food decreases because the food is no longer as exciting or interesting as it used to be. It doesn't mean you don't like the food anymore.     30. The Danger of Joining the "Clean Plate Club"

    When you were a child, did you ever have an adult tell you not to get up from the table until you ate every bite of food on your plate? If so, you may have been initiated into the "clean plate club". The problem with the clean plate club is that it causes you to ignore your body's own hunger and fullness cues. Instead, it teaches you to rely on an empty plate to tell you when to stop eating. One of the biggest dangers of being part of the clean plate club is that you may unintentionally pass this habit on to your kids. If children are taught to eat even when they're not hungry, that can set them up for a lifetime of overeating and binge eating.In this episode, I talk about why we may think asking our kids to clean their plates is helpful, but why it actually isn't in reality.
