In this week's episode of The Future-Proof your Business podcast I'm sharing the 5 lessons I've learned from my 9-year old daughter and how I believe that if we apply these 5 lessons to our business and life we can make great things happen.1) Tap into what you love, into what you enjoy and remind yourself of where the joy factor is.2) Determination and grit. Being accountable to yourself and keeping your promises. Only you can decide if you're going to keep going or give up and this can make the difference between success and failure.3) Doing your own thing. Why it's important to own your voice and space and do things on your terms and in your own way.4) Be scared and do it anyway. Facing your fear and doing the thing is the only way you're going to move forward and grow.and5) Be the best cheerleader for others. It's a lonely world running a business and the best way to have fun and create success is to embrace collaborations, surround yourself with the best people and support them and their wins along the way.Come and join me for a complimentary month in my online membership The Future-Proof Club®️, get access to training, resources and live workshops and meet up with other amazing business owners who want to build brilliant businesses just like you. Two and a half years ago I sat down to record the very first episode of this podcast. I'd been a podcast listener for years—right now I'm subscribed to about 25 different shows, and I listen to dozens more on an episode-by-episode basis. So when I decided it was time to really embrace content marketing as a tool in my business, podcasting was my first choice. I knew a few things going in. I knew I had to be in it for the long-run. Content marketing is all about long-term strategy, not quick wins, so I was committed to a long-term plan. I knew I had to be consistent. Probably more than any other content medium, podcasting benefits from a consistent publishing schedule. I knew I wanted to teach, not interview. I've never enjoyed listening to interview style shows, and I never wanted to create one, so I knew going in that this would be a solo show—just me and my thoughts about running an online business. I also thought I was prepared, but there are always things you can't truly know ahead of time. In this 100th episode, I'll share five things I learned (or learned again) over the past 27 months. Prefer a transcript? Here you go! What you'll learn in this episode: Two big benefits of consistency that go way beyond just earning more money How setting deadlines in public helps ensure I do what I intend to do Why building a sustainable business requires long-term commitment (and that's actually a good thing) Why showing up as your imperfect self is good enough Resources mentioned: Cal Newport's Deep Questions is one of about 25 podcasts I regularly listen to. Letting Go of Perfectionism
We regularly cover significant breaches on this podcast, but it is rare that we have enough information about a major breach to cover in enough detail to devote an entire segment to. Today, we dive into lessons learned from the breach of Okta's customer support system that targeted some other major security vendors. This is part of a troubling trend, where the target of an attack only serves as a jumping off point to other organizations. China's 2023 attack of Microsoft is an example of this. It was easier to attack Microsoft 365, one of the world's largest business SaaS platforms, than to go after each of the 25 individual targets these Chinese actors needed access to. Traditionally, we've thought of lateral movement as something that happens within a network segment, or even within a single organization. Now, we're seeing lateral movement between SaaS platforms, between clouds, from third party vendors to customer, and even from open source project to open source adopters. In this segment, we'll cover five key lessons learned from Okta's breach, from information shared by Okta and three of its customers: 1Password, Cloudflare, and BeyondTrust. "You have 5 little kids and you published a book? HOW???" This has been the refrain I've been asked over the past couple of weeks since my book, Reclaim Play, hit Amazon. It certainly wasn't an easy process for me and maybe that's why it took me four whole years! I love to learn from every area of my life and writing a book is no exception. There were many lessons that I gleaned from this process and today I'm sharing them with you - whether it's a book you want to write, a marathon you want to run, a business you want to start or even just a greater sense of productivity and capacity that you want to foster: this episode is for you! It never surprises me how often Scott Kelby's name comes up when I am talking about photography with someone. I remember, back when I started out in photography, how much I learned from watching his videos with "The Photoshop Guys". Scott, to me, is photography education personified. Scott has been on the show a few times, for Insights From Scott Kelby and Timeless Photography, but I still remember the first time I met him in person. It was at a Photoshop World in Vegas, and I was at the hotel bar where everyone from the conference hung out. Scott walked in and the room seemed to gravitate slowly towards him. I recall thinking "it's gotta be weird to be him right now" at the same time as thinking "I should go introduce myself". Clearly, I am part of the problem. Still, I walked over and before I got to him he spotted me and walked towards me to say hi. Since then I have had the pleasure of seeing him at a few conferences, and hanging out for a few hours at the NAMM show in Anaheim, CA, but one of the most amazing things is to just sit in a session Scott is teaching and watch him work. Scott Kelby was born to do what he does, and I'm not talking about the business side of Scott here. Sure, Scott is an icon in the photography world. He's the founder and namesake of KelbyOne, the gold standard in online photography education, and the creator of Photoshop World, but the teaching... that is where Scott shines. His knowledge is up there with the best in the business, but his pacing, speech patterns, and demeanor, all make absorbing that knowledge so easy. He has authored numerous books, and he shares a lot of his knowledge on his blog at scottkelby.com. I'd argue that his Guest Blog Wednesdays are one of the most amazing resources out there for photographers, and twice now I have been honored to write a post there, for Five Lessons Learned from Hosting the Behind The Shot Podcast and The Joy of Live Music Photography. Scott's Annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk – the world's largest social photography event - just seems to get bigger each year, and he's more than just well versed in photography by the way. Scott is an accomplished musician, playing guitar (what an amazing guitar collection he has), bass, drums, and piano. Plus, he is one of the few photographers that seemingly can photograph anything – Any. Thing. Travel, fashion, beauty, people, the great indoors, automotive, sports, anything he points his camera at seems to crop itself for him, and that is one of the things I love about Scott's work. His eye for composition, and what makes a shot work, is amazing. That is what brings him here today. Scott does regular photo critique shows, usually blind photo critiques, on his show The Grid, usually with Erik Kuna, and his insight is amazing. I firmly believe that one of the best and fastest ways to improve your photography is to get fair honest critiques from a trusted source, and that's what Scott is doing. I also did a series of image critique shows, with my buddy Don Komarechka, for two years, but that stopped when the war broke out in Ukraine, and then Don moved to Bulgaria. At some point while we were doing those shows Scott wrote a blog post titled "What to expect from a photo critique", and it was so damn good that I started mentioning it at the start of every critique show I did with Don. Let me explain... Often I would get an email from someone who's image Don and I critiqued trying to explain the image, and in doing so trying to let me know why we were "wrong" with what we had said. The same thing happens when I judge one of the image competitions I do periodically here in California. People feel that if we judges and critique people only knew the hardships they went through to get an image, or what the crowd was like, or what the music sounded like, or insert your explainer here meant, that we would understand how amazing their image was. We just didn't understand their art!

In this episode, I discuss five of the biggest lessons I've learned over my career as a Rehabilitation and Strength and Conditioning Specialist. The list is actually rather large, so there will be a follow up to this in the future, but for now, these were the first five that popped into my head. Now please note, none of the statements I make are meant to offend anyone, so I apologize in advance if they do. They are simply meant to get you thinking a bit differently and reevaluate your process and what you think you know. Agree or disagree, that is up to you. Enjoy!

Key Links Singularity University In this podcast, our goal is to uncover some of the most innovative companies leveraging leading-edge technology, like Singularity University. Companies like SU are taking on the global goals with social-impact driven business models. We want this podcast to be a resource for you to learn about the innovative tech of our time and integrate it into your business model. I've learned a ton in this recent singularity university series and I hope that you learned as much as I did. With that said, I wanted to share with you a quick recap of my top five lessons learned that I learned in this series. Take Away 1: When you're building out an exponential technology business, one of the best ways to start is just to focus on building a regular company and focusing on solving a problem that you think that you're uniquely good at that you will be able to specialize in in the marketplace and watch how that company develops organically. Take Away 2: One of the best ways to bring technology into your business is to hire someone that specializes in the technology that you want to leverage. Take Away 3: Once you get into the technology game, it's advantageous to actually study all the different kinds of exponential technologies so you can stay on top of the marketplace. Take Away 4: You don't have to be a technologist to get into the business of exponential technology. The best way to start is just to become more data centric. Take Away 5: Maybe I'm a little bit biased on this, but I really enjoyed getting the insider scoop of the latest and greatest of what singularity is up to in the world and their game plan over the next 10 years. In the SU series, we heard from some of the top minds at SU on how to leverage exponential technology and incorporate it into your own business, the implications that exponential technology will have on your future and on the impact this technology will have in solving the Global Goals. We will be taking a short break and when we come back we will start a series Impact Venture Capital, Private Equity Firms and how to measure impact with your portfolio companies at scale. Stay tuned! Listen in to hear more about my 5 biggest takeaways from the SU series.

FIVE LESSONS LEARNED FROM HOSTING THIS PODCAST Today is a special day. Today I share the FIVE LESSONS LEARNED FROM HOSTING THIS PODCAST! Today marks the 50th episode of Your Anxiety Toolkit Podcast. I get a little sentimental during this one, but please stick with me. Let me start by saying that I am so grateful for reaching 50 episodes. When I started this podcast, in my pjs in my kitchen with my sleeping baby next to me as I recorded my first episode, never in my wildest dreams could imagine what it would become. From this podcast came CBTSchool.com, and from CBT school came a community that I could never have imagined. So Today, on this 50th episode, I celebrate YOU! And, today I want to talk to you about what I have learned and a few of my favorite quotes that I live by (and I promise this will apply to you). In this episode, I share 5 lessons learned by hosting this podcast and I have lived by as I hosted this podcast. I have to be honest. I have learned SO much and I cannot wait to share the lessons with you. I won't pretend it has all been easy. It hasn't. There was a couple of time that this podcast nearly didn't get made. And, there were quite a few times it was made OVER AND OVER! All I can say is that I am so grateful for your support and compassion as I bumped along. If you missed last weeks episode 49 The Content of Your Thoughts Are Not Important Thank you again for supporting me with this podcast and with CBT Schools online courses. Please click here to find out more about Mindfulness School for OCD.

Trading Story: Trading Interviews, Tips & Inspiration For Newer Traders
Personal Update Focused on trading forex for 5 months: Apiary Fund & ProAct Traders Focused on trading futures for 2 months with another mentor. Paused all trading activities in November 2016. Two years focused on trading. I’m now focused on a new project: real estate investing. Lessons Learned Trading Mindset: Mini-business, chart patterns, persistence. Cutting Losses: Cutting the losses of a passion that hadn’t panned out. Letting Winners Run: Kept working on my marketing business that is growing. I am not a consistently profitable trader. Episode 0 & Episode 113 Continuing Education: I kept learning and I was open. Shifting to Real Estate Investing (REI) It’s so similar to trading, it’s scary. Many of the lessons learned in trading translate to REI. Less competition and more obstacles may make a better market for you. Can use relationship skills. When Things Don’t Work Out Two reactions: Get depressed OR perform an After Action Review (AAR). Trading did not work out for me on my 3rd go-round as I had hoped. But it opened for me the opportunity for something new. “When God closes a door, he opens a window”. Maybe that’s something you need. Postscript: Why Not Continue Trading Story Indefinitely? Trading Story was supposed to be my journey to consistent profitability. Passion is what makes a great podcast. My passion has shifted to a new project and a new podcast. A brand new Real Estate Investing podcast at REI Nomad. This is where my Trading Story continues. I cordially invite you to join me on that podcast. The link is in the shownotes page. Or just go to REINomad.com. Call To Action If you fail at something (and we all do). Grieve the loss. But don’t stay there. Remember the reason you started this to begin with: financial and location independence.
I spent a few months in Ireland...and a lot of time driving on the wrong side of the road. It was nerve-racking, exhausting, and in many ways, eye-opening. We're hard-wired by our norms; they determine the basis for our next business moves, relationships, and goals. Sometimes norms are good. They save us time, help build our network, and eliminate uncertainty. For most of us, running a law firm doesn't come with a handy guidebook. We're forced outside of our normal, and we can either rethink or stall. Driving on the wrong side of the road made me regroup. It stretched my brain and helped me grow. These are the five lessons I drove away with and applied to the acceleration of my business. Listen in Browser | Download MP3 | Subscribe in iTunes

I learned from my conversation with Brian Peters that you could auto"magically" manage your new media accounts and be a social media evangelist at the same time. As a former purchaser, it gave me a kick to learn about a company without regular sales people. I wonder what a Happiness Hero is reading at the moment? This episode was recorded on August 9, with the Ringr app. I downloaded the recording (audio format: mono mix, sample rate 44 kHz, Flac, 114.6 MB) to my MacBook and then did the post production with Auphonic (112 kbps, mp3, 53.1 MB). Podcasting equipment: iPhone 6S Plus, iRig Mic Cast microphone, and SnapRecorder portable recording booth. Trading Story: Trading Interviews, Tips & Inspiration For Newer Traders
I wanted to go meta with you guys for a bit. I just crossed the 6-month mark on this podcasting venture. As you may be aware, I’ve been doing digital marketing for a bit, but have never delved into podcasting until mid-April 2015 – 6 months ago. Launched the Trading Story podcast and it’s been a fun journey with you guys so far. I’ve learned a ton and hopefully you guys have enjoyed it too and got a little educated about trading along the way. And it seems like a good time to step back and reflect on where we’ve gone together so far. I’ve got five lessons I’ve learned in the past 6 months of podcasting about the markets.
