Obesity has more than tripled in Canada since 1981. In their new book “Food Intelligence,” Canadian co-authors Julia Belluz and Kevin Hall - an award-winning health and science journalist, and a prominent researcher on metabolism in the U.S. - argue that it's not because of a collective loss of willpower. Instead, they say the foods we buy and eat have become more calorie-dense, delicious and addictive over the last 40 years.

I bet you thought it was ENTIRELY about the carbs you were eating that were responsible for your weight gain, or slide into mild cognitive impairment.Well, you're not entirely wrong, however, having lots of carbs puts an increased demand on your ability use and produce choline. High carbs are one of the reasons for the choline deficiency, the other reason is that some people 25 - 40+ percent are limited in their abilty to use and manufacture choline (from Bile, to acetyl choline a vital neurotransmitter, and more). Having high carbs (carbs in general), not consuming enough choline (egg yolks and liver) and having specific SNPs (single nuclear polymorphisms) that predispose you to not being able to use choline well, or at all, puts you unequivocally at risk for cognitive impairment, dementia, and NAFD, if not obesity as well. The GOOD NEW is that it is correctable without medications through dietary changes.I kid you not.

Childhood chronic diseases like obesity, diabetes, asthma, anxiety, and depression are rising sharply, with nearly one in five U.S. children obese and one in seven teens experiencing mental disorders On February 13, 2025, President Trump signed Executive Order 14212 establishing the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission, chaired by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to address children's health The Commission identified four main drivers of childhood chronic disease — poor diet, toxic chemical exposures, lack of physical activity combined with chronic stress, and overmedicalization through unnecessary prescriptions The Commission's strategy rests on four pillars — advancing research, realigning incentives and systems, increasing public awareness, and fostering private sector collaboration, creating a comprehensive plan to reverse the health crisis Key reforms include stricter food safety rules, updated infant nutrition standards, greater transparency in healthcare, expanded mental health support, and partnerships that put real food and prevention at the center of children's lives

Since the early 1980s, obesity rates have doubled, and the average American adult has gained about 20 pounds. This rise in obesity has put these groups at increased risk for diabetes, Alzheimer's, several types of cancers, and many more health issues. All of this is burdening the American healthcare system in a way that isn't sustainable. So in this episode of the podcast, I am going to talk about what has caused this rise in obesity from both a societal level and an individual level, and discuss what we can do to help improve things. “When I was fat as f*ck…” This line is how Nick Geoppo started his videos and built an entire empire. Nick spent half of his life trapped in the same cycle so many of us know too well. The binge-restrict-shame-start over loop. He lost and gained weight over and over, tried every diet possible and built his identity around “I'll fix it tomorrow.” But in 2019, he broke the cycle for good. And now he's helping people to do the same. I wanted to have Nick on the podcast for a few reasons, but the main reason is because this story is BIGGER than the weight loss. Yes, Nick's journey is about going from obese to healthy but the way he describes the fear, the food obsession, the shame and the starting again cycle is EXACTLY what so many women with disordered eating and body dysmorphia go through every single day. Nick is the permission slip to stop letting food run your life… and to start living a life that actually turns you on and lights you up. Together we will cover: How to stop letting your obsessive food thoughts take over your whole day Why willpower isn't the answer, and what actually works instead The exact moment Nick realised food wasn't the problem at all What to do when you feel like you've wasted years of your life in this cycle… Why rock bottom is fuel but you don't have to hit it to make serious change What actually changes in your sex life and relationships when you heal your relationships with food …and so much more. Host: Darryl S. Chutka, M.D. Guests: Amanda M. Johnson, M.D., and Victor G. Chedid, M.D., M.S. This podcast continues our series on inflammatory bowel disease. The topic is important and timely: “Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Special Populations: The Elderly, the Obese and the LGBTQ Patient.” It's critical that we broaden our perspective in addressing the unique challenges faced by these often-unrecognized population groups. How common is the presentation of inflammatory bowel disease in those over 65? How does age affect the treatments commonly used? Does obesity alter the disease presentation or activity and what are some of the unique challenges our LGBTQ patients face with inflammatory bowel disease? These are just some of the questions I'll be asking my guests, Amanda M. Johnson, M.D., and Victor G. In another powerful episode of the Fit Father Project Podcast, Episode 241, Dr. Anthony Balduzzi welcomes Ben Azadi—bestselling author, metabolic health expert, and founder of Keto Kamp—for a deep dive into the root causes of poor metabolic health and what it truly takes to reclaim your body, mind, and vitality. Ben shares his personal transformation story, going from suicidal, overweight, and inflamed at 250 lbs to thriving in his 40s—lean, healthy, and purposeful. His journey started with ownership and mindset shifts, and evolved into a life's mission of helping others achieve “metabolic freedom.”The conversation goes far beyond keto buzzwords. Ben outlines how environmental toxins, not just calories, are driving fat gain and chronic disease, with shocking data about "obesogens" and "diabetogens" found in food, water, and even household items. He also challenges conventional calorie-focused models of weight loss and reveals how addressing hormones and inflammation is the real path to transformation.Ben unpacks his strategic use of ketosis—not as a lifelong diet, but as a metabolic tool—alongside the power of fasting, carnivore resets, and metabolic flexibility. His 6-day carnivore + 1-day carb refeed approach gives listeners a fresh model of how to eat and train for longevity and leanness. Finally, the conversation takes a powerful turn into mindset. Ben's favorite “supplement”? Vitamin G—gratitude. He explains how thoughts shape biology, citing the placebo effect, stress hormones, and genetic expression. He leaves listeners with a compelling call to master their thinking to master their health.Key Takeaways:Weight gain is a symptom of deeper dysfunctionHidden toxins (obesogens, diabetogens) drive fat storageHormones and inflammation matter more than caloriesKeto used as a strategic metabolic tool, not lifelong dietFasting insulin is the best marker for metabolic healthCarnivore diet works well as a short-term gut resetWeekly protocol: 6 days carnivore, 1 day carb refeedPlastics and household toxins disrupt hormones and metabolismMuscle mass is the #1 driver of metabolic efficiency after 60Vitamin G = gratitude, the most underrated anti-inflammatoryYour thoughts can literally turn genes on or offRewiring your mindset is like strength training for the brainTrue metabolic freedom comes from healing root causesLearn More about Ben Azadi:Website: www.benazadi.comNew Book: Metabolic Freedom is set to release on May 13, 2025Go to www.metabolicfreedombook.comPreorder Ben's book before May 13th or order after its release and get his Metabolic Freedom course and exclusive interviews for FREE!
