Send us a textIn this bite-sized solo episode of Embrace Midlife, I'm sharing a very real and unexpected part of my recent trip to Byron Bay - a sprained ankle, right at the start of our anniversary getaway. What unfolded after that wasn't just a disrupted holiday but a powerful reminder of patience, presence, and how midlife has helped shape my mindset in the face of challenges.Turning 56, celebrating 20 years of marriage, and heading off to one of our favourite spots, Byron always helps us unwind - but life had other plans. From slipping down stairs to managing crutches at a health retreat (which, spoiler alert, we didn't love), I found myself reflecting deeply on how we cope when life throws a curveball.I also talk about how stopping drinking has shifted the way I respond to setbacks, and how building new habits, whether it's sobriety or recovery - truly comes down to small steps and a whole lot of self-kindness. The story isn't just about an injury; it's about the lessons that surface when we slow down, ask for help, and appreciate what we usually take for granted. If you're navigating your own midlife transitions, struggling with patience, or just need a reminder that you're not alone, this episode is for you.In this episode, I talk about:What happened on my Byron Bay trip and how it derailed (but also reshaped) the experienceThe surprising reactions from strangers - and how kindness can come from unexpected placesWhy physical recovery made me reflect on my sobriety journeyHow small steps and mindset shifts are everything in midlifeThe power of appreciation - for our bodies, our partners, and the simple thingsWhy I believe in compassion over criticism, alwaysLet's connect: I'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode—feel free to DM me on Instagram @belindastark_ or visit my website belindastark.com for free midlife resources and coaching info.If you enjoyed this episode, please share it with someone who might relate. If your Divine Guidance Team sent you a wake-up call, would you recognize it? Life's wake-up calls are also known as “sliding doors” moments. A sliding doors moment happens when a seemingly insignificant decision is made that alters the course of future events, and maybe even the rest of your life — you may remember a 1998 film starring Gwyneth Paltrow that explores this idea.I experienced my own sliding doors moment after my near-death experience in 2009, when I was feeling especially vulnerable and fragile. During this time, I was offered the opportunity to do humanitarian work in Afghanistan. I knew I wasn't as strong as I'd like to be for this sort of work and that I should ease myself back into life, rather than jumping into a war zone… but my heart said YES.And so I went. While working that job, I met the love of my life. Now, we're married and raising three beautiful children. If I'd said no to that job and found something less stressful, my life would be dramatically different. This wasn't a random, inconsequential moment. It arrived by divine design. Your own sliding doors moments may feel small at the time, but they have incredible power — especially when you're able to recognize them for what they are!Listen now to discover: What a life wake-up call really is (and how to know what they're waking us up to!)Three big wake-up calls that I've personally experienced and the lessons they taught meAn invitation that will help you receive the divine messages trying to reach youTimestamps:00:01 Intro01:06 NDE sliding doors moment05:11 Sliding doors & divine design07:41 3am wake-up calls v. life's wake-up calls09:04 Fork in the road10:21 Baghdad example & lesson14:15 Democratic National Convention example & lesson22:10 Accident example & lesson25:14 Divine message31:15 Invitations & conclusionLinks:Soul Guide Radio Ep 92 - The 3am Wake-Up CallSoul Guide Radio Ep 35 - Near Death Experience Part 1Soul Guide Radio Ep 36 - Near Death Experience Part 2Stay connected: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/soulguidecircle Instagram: @allysonscammell Ready to grow a prosperous soul-guided business? This week kicks off the holiday season! It can also be a tricky season to navigate when it comes to eating, drinking, and spending. Often times this season is marked by a lot of 'over'ing---over eating, drinking, and spending. Ironically all three things are usually connected and have similar root causes. I've gathered a few of my best strategies to help not only survive the holidays, but come out even thriving through them as well. If you're ready to do the holidays differently around food and drinking, this episode is just for you. And, if you're ready to take what you are learning here and apply it even deeper to your own life, you can email alisha@alishacarlson.com or message me on IG or FB to learn more about my non diet approach to see if it's right for you.

When we’re faced with times of stress and turbulence, many of us go back into old, familiar patterns. One of the most common patterns is emotional eating. Let’s talk about how we can reframe this, ladies. The time is now. The Chief Complaint: Emotional Eating It’s so common to fall back into old patterns of emotional eating when we’re facing crisis and uncertainty. Whether we find ourselves at home all the time right now or pulling extra hospital shifts having to wear a face mask for 12 hours straight, our society is in turmoil. First things first, ladies, we need to learn how to love ourselves - and stop judging ourselves! Bad habits can easily fall into part of our daily routine. They become part of our structure, the very core of our being. It is possible, through some hard work and inner examination, to actually break these habits. Let’s talk about emotional eating. You need to figure out what foods work for your body. Once you do this, repeat after me: There is no food that’s completely off-limits for you unless you have an allergy. But you do need to reframe your relationship with food. Some food will make you feel good. You should eat these the most. Some will be more indulgent… eat these too, just more sparingly. Many women have told me that they want to eat more of the foods that make them feel good, but they don’t know what or how to cook. This ladies is where your community comes in. Seek them out! There are so many women out there sharing the recipes and meals they make. Rely on your community to help you through these tough times. It is absolutely possible to create good from a situation that’s totally beyond our control. This is exactly what’s going on in the world today, but you’re not alone. There is still a lot of good out there, so start seeking out the good in every day. Finally, I want you to think about exercise. Why do you exercise? Is it to lose those extra 5 pounds or to feel leaner? Or do you exercise to feel good in your body, increase your endorphins, and improve your mental health? Exercise is good for us and when we reframe our relationship with it, that’s when the magic happens. Homework Recognize what’s going on and don’t make a judgment. What does exercise look like for you? How do you want to think about exercise? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! In This Episode How to learn to love and not judge yourself How a bad habit can become part of our structure Why you need to figure out what foods work for your body How to reframe your relationship with food What it’s like to reframe our relationship with food How your community can support you through changing your diet How to create good from a situation that’s outside your control Why you should exercise for internal results Quotes “The really cool thing about being a unique human is that we don’t really know what the best plan for us is unless we try things. And we’re very aware of how our body responds. What might work for one person might not work for the next.” (9:17) “How do you want to think about exercise? Because there are many, many health benefits and we need it in our lives. We need it to be functional, we need it to be strong, and we need it to age well.” (20:42) “Whatever it is that you’re dealing with, just know that you have the ability to change it one way or another.” (23:45) Resources Mentioned Get a FREE 30-Day Trial to the Live Coaching Society! Do you present yourself one way in dating and then make a switch when you get comfortable (or uncomfortable!) in a relationship? Or maybe you’ve experienced this with someone you were dating or in a relationship with — they seem to be one person when you first meet them but then almost literally become another person after a while of being together. And we aren’t talking about just a dramatic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde situation where someone flips into monster-mode. Maybe they just become clingy or distant or insecure or whatever the opposite is of who they presented to you in the beginning. (An example of this can be observed in the binge worthy Netflix show, LOVE IS BLIND.)In this episode we talk about why this happens and how people match up like puzzle pieces based on what we call the ‘Love Persona’. Each of us has a Love Persona that we may not be conscious of. It’s been cultivated based on the defenses we developed as children to protect us against the big bad world. These emotional experiences lock us into patterns that teach us how to relate to others and put our “best face forward.”Debra and Dr. Rob answer this listener question: Dear Deb & Dr. Rob-I’m 38 and have been divorced three times. Well, one of those was an annulment I just went through with my third husband. He filed the annulment citing “fraud”! I am so embarrassed. I am the most honest person you’ll ever meet! Anyway, my lawyer asked him to explain his reasoning and he finally sent me a text message saying that I wasn’t the woman who he thought he was marrying and that he felt deceived or hoodwinked because I “flipped the script on him”. Even though part of me wanted to drive over to his new apartment and tell him off but the other part of me realized that I’d kinda heard this before from my exes. Is this possible? Can I really be that different after getting married? Help!*Nicollette They explain how Nicollette needs to do the inner work and let her true self come out so she can express it in relationships and make love last. In this two-part season finale, Ray DePaola and I discuss ancestral lineage as a path to healing, his through a treasured family story, mine through a strong resistance to tracing my family tree. After these final two episodes, I'm taking Frau Amy's World on hiatus until September, giving myself permission to dig deeper into my second book, Where the Other Me Lives. But what perfect conversations to go out on. Ray always gives me something to ponder. He's a Life Guide, a Peaceful Dude, and Nature’s Wingman. Some folks (like me!) call him Gandalf, so be forewarned. We venture into unusual spaces. In my book, I'm exploring my complex relationship with my Family Tree. (Don't we all have family patterns to heal?) When Ray shared his own story about Ancestral Healing, I was curious. And when he started talking about our personal responsibility within that lineage, I knew we had something to talk about. Did we ever! During the upcoming hiatus, if you haven't listened to the rest of my first season, please check out episodes 1-20. (Here's episode 9, with Ray)! And if Ray speaks to you, consider reaching out for yourself. Conversations can include thought work and inquiry, dream analysis, mind-body connection, energy awareness, animal messengers, Spirit Guides, and Oracle cards.
