Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating, better known as CRAB, has spent 35 years making sure people with disabilities are not left at the dock. In this Local Business Spotlight, CRAB President and CEO Bo Bollinger joins us from the nonprofit's Adaptive Boating Center on Back Creek to explain how the organization helps guests sail, fish, and experience the Chesapeake Bay safely and independently. Bo shares the story of CRAB's founding in 1991 after Don Backe, who had been paralyzed in a car crash, rediscovered a sense of freedom aboard a sailboat and decided others deserved the same opportunity. Today, CRAB operates six adaptive sailboats, radio-controlled sailboats, and a 40-foot power catamaran capable of carrying five wheelchair users. The goal is not simply to give guests a ride. CRAB puts the tiller in their hands and gives them the chance to sail the boat themselves. The conversation also covers the growth of CRAB's waterfront facility, its highly trained volunteer force, free sailing programs, family outings, recovering warrior regattas, Special Olympics sailing and year-round wellness programs. Bo explains how people can volunteer, donate a boat, support the organization financially or simply help someone with a disability discover that this resource exists right here in Annapolis. NOTE: We initially had a bad connection; parts of the first 90 seconds may sound garbled! Chris Vos, founder and frontman of The Record Company, joins us ahead of the band's return to Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis on Monday, August 17. The show is part of the Give It Back to You 10th Anniversary Tour—and, as it turns out, it also marks ten years since the band last played the intimate Annapolis venue. Vos calls Rams Head "one of the greatest rooms ever" and says the return carries more meaning than he initially realized. During the conversation, Vos shares the deeply personal connection between that 2016 Annapolis show and the death of his grandfather. He reflects on growing up on a Wisconsin dairy farm, the years of doubt before The Record Company broke through, and how the debut album was made before Grammy nominations, major tours and a career in music became reality. He also explains why the band released a raw recording of its first living-room concert, saying artists should not be embarrassed by their growth or allow perfectionism to keep honest work hidden. The interview also explores how Vos approaches performing songs written by a younger version of himself, why every song in the set deserves his full commitment and what decades in music have taught him about work, humility and staying present. He talks about the influence of his family, the importance of respecting the audience and why he views every concert as one fewer opportunity to do what he loves—not one more. He also reveals that his dream gig would be sharing a stage with The Rolling Stones and closes with a reminder that word of mouth remains one of the most powerful ways to support a band. Tickets are available now for their August 17th show at Rams Head On Stage. Have a listen! Bonus Podcast: Annapolis Mayor Jared Littmann Checks In at 200 Days

Annapolis Mayor Jared Littmann joins us for a wide-ranging conversation marking roughly 200 days in office. He discusses securing funding for the City Dock project, reaching a tentative settlement in the HACA housing lawsuit, filling several key leadership positions, launching the search for a new police chief, and passing his first city budget without increasing the tax rate. We also dig into permitting reforms, including shorter review times and the possible use of artificial intelligence to screen applications for code compliance. Littmann explains why the police chief search includes a community advisory committee, responds to concerns about city communications and social media, and addresses the financial impact of the proposed $15 million HACA settlement. The conversation also covers progress at City Dock, the challenges facing nearby businesses during construction, proposed changes to downtown parking, the return of the Golden Pass program, and the mayor's priorities for the next 100 days. Littmann also reflects on what he considers one of his early missteps and what he hopes residents will begin noticing as investments in streets, sidewalks and other city services move forward. The Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum is much more than a museum—it is Maryland's official home for African American history and culture, preserving stories that have shaped not only the state but the nation. This week on the Local Business Spotlight, Executive Director Chanel Compton Johnson shares how the museum serves as both a destination and a gateway, connecting visitors to African American heritage sites and stories throughout Maryland. Johnson discusses the museum's current exhibitions, including She Speaks: Black Women Artists and the Power of Historical Memory, plans for a reimagined permanent exhibit, and why the museum's mission extends beyond preserving history to helping visitors better understand the present. She also talks about the museum's role in education, community partnerships, youth programming, and the importance of making African American history accessible to everyone. It's an engaging conversation about history, art, education, and why this remarkable Annapolis institution deserves far more attention than being called a "hidden gem." If you've never visited the Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum—or haven't been in a while—this episode is a great place to start. Have a listen. For 25 years, Kacy Paide has helped people tackle the paper piles, packed closets, hidden boxes, and overwhelmed workspaces they often feel they should be able to manage on their own. Through The Inspired Office, Paide focuses on offices and paper wherever it accumulates, whether that means a desk, dining room table, basement, or a closet filled with what she calls "time capsules." In this week's Local Business Spotlight, Petty explains why getting organized is often less about buying containers and more about understanding habits, emotions, and the systems that will actually work for each person. She also discusses the value of visible filing systems, why going completely paperless is not realistic for everyone, and how her virtual small-group programs are helping people well beyond the Annapolis area. Kacy also shares how she launched the business straight out of college, built it largely through word of mouth, and is now using 25 years of client stories and experience to write her first book. The Inspired Office also offers videos, a free email crash course, an online assessment, and other resources for anyone ready to make their paper life feel a little less overwhelming. Have a listen. PlayAnnapolis is working to make sure every child in the Annapolis area has the opportunity to participate in sports and recreation, regardless of cost, transportation or circumstance. In this episode of the Local Business Spotlight, Emily Tomasini, co-founder and president of PlayAnnapolis, and Stan Womack, founder of the Annapolis All Stars, discuss the barriers that keep children off the field and why access to organized sports matters far beyond the final score. PlayAnnapolis brings together eighteen local sports programs to raise money for scholarships, connect families with available leagues and advocate for better fields and facilities. The group has also partnered with local schools to introduce children to soccer, basketball, lacrosse and other activities close to home. Scholarship support grew from about $1,900 during its first year to nearly $18,000 the following year, a sign that both the demand and the opportunity are significant. Emily and Stan also talk about the need for coaches, referees, mentors, volunteers and community partners, along with a long-term vision for a dedicated athletic complex in Annapolis.
