Spring is showing off in Annapolis, and few people know that better than Mary Ewenson of Annapolis Boat Shows. Today, we talk about two of the season's biggest on-the-water events: the Bay Bridge Boat Show, set for April 17 to 19 at Safe Harbor Narrows Point, and the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show, happening April 24 to 26 in downtown Annapolis. The conversation goes beyond dates and docks. Ewenson talks about what makes both shows appealing not just for serious boaters, but for families, first-timers, and anyone looking for a good excuse to get outside and explore life on the Chesapeake Bay. From climbing aboard boats in the water to hands-on seminars, demo rides, kids activities, and opportunities to learn everything from docking to sailing, both shows are designed to be as much an experience as a shopping trip. We also dive into the unique setup for this year's Spring Sailboat Show as City Dock construction continues, along with a few insider tips on parking, nearby restaurants, and even how to score free tickets while supporting Dock Street businesses. It is a fun conversation about boating, spring in Annapolis, and why these shows have become a tradition for so many people around the Bay.   Have a listen! The Education Foundation of Anne Arundel County Public Schools is helping bridge gaps, support innovation, and create new opportunities for students and educators throughout the county. In this week's Local Business Spotlight, we talk with Joe Callahan about why a foundation like this is so important, why bringing it back after a period of dormancy mattered, and why this is such a well-kept secret. We also get into what the foundation actually does—how it helps fund programs, supports schools and teachers, and works to meet needs that might otherwise go unmet. It is a conversation about public education, community support, and the many ways a strong foundation can make a real difference. And because this is not something that happens without community buy-in, we also talk about how people can step up—whether that means donating money, volunteering time, mentoring students, or finding other ways to lend a hand. In this week's Local Business Spotlight, we sat down with Thomas Thompson, founder of Eduaide (and former teacher in Anne Arundel County), a locally based, AI-powered platform built specifically for teachers. Eduaide helps educators create lesson plans, classroom activities, graphic organizers, games, and other instructional materials, all with the goal of saving time and making planning a little less overwhelming. Bonus: There is a free version as well as a paid version (which would make an outstanding gift for a teacher in your life). We talked about how the idea came together, what makes Eduaide different from more general AI tools, and why the platform is focused so heavily on practical, classroom-ready support for educators. The company says its tools are designed to help teachers build standards-aligned materials and access a wide range of teaching resources in one place. If you are a teacher, know a teacher, or just want to hear how one founder is using technology to support education in a meaningful way, this is a great conversation. Have a listen! Have a listen! The Eastport Oyster Boys are turning 30, and if you've lived anywhere near Annapolis for more than 5 minutes, you've probably heard their "music and mirth" drifting across the water at least once. Today, Kevin Brooks — the band's lead troubadour and chief storyteller — joins us to talk about three decades of Chesapeake Bay songs, Eastport legends, and how the Oyster Boys became the self-appointed (and officially appointed) Musical Goodwill Ambassadors for the City of Annapolis and the Maritime Republic of Eastport. We dig into the band's origin story, the "good hat, good dog, good boat" philosophy, and why the Oyster Boys have always mixed laughs with a little love for the Bay and the culture that surrounds it. We also preview the big 30th anniversary "Shuck It Tour Celebration" show at Maryland Hall on March 22, featuring founding member and Annapolis Poet Laureate Jeff Holland, plus a lineup of Oyster Boys alumni musicians. Proceeds benefit Annapolis Musicians For Musicians, which provides scholarships and emergency support for local working artists — so it's a party with a purpose. We cover tickets, the VIP option, and the post-concert reception, and Kevin shares what fans can expect when the band hits the stage for this hometown milestone. The Village at Providence Point is taking shape in Annapolis, and the people behind it — and the people preparing to call it home — are already feeling the momentum. In this episode, we sat down with Cyndi Walters, president of National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS), and Chill Hotchkiss, NLCS director of sales, to talk about how The Village at Providence Point moved from vision to reality. Walters walks through the long road to get here — planning, approvals, legal challenges, and what it takes to bring a project of this size and scope to the finish line.  Hotchkiss gives a closer look at the property itself, the lifestyle being built, and what prospective residents are looking for as they consider their next chapter. He also explains how he develops relationships to ensure a pre-built community! And then we hear from three future residents who are ready to make the move: Phil, Ilse, and Carol. Phil and Ilse are married and will be moving in together, and Carol will be moving in independently. They share their personal "why," what drew them to Providence Point, and the parts of this transition that feel exciting — from community and convenience to peace of mind. They also offer fascinating insights into their lives and what they're looking forward to most once the doors open. Is The Village at Providence Point for you? Have a listen. A Few Moments With Karla Bonoff

Today, we're slowing it down a bit with one of the greatest singer-songwriters, Karla Bonoff — a writer and performer whose songs helped define a generation of West Coast folk-rock and soft rock, even if a lot of people first fell in love with them through other artists. In this bonus pod, we talk about Karla's songwriting, the stories behind some of those timeless songs, and what it's like to have music live so many different lives over the years. Her catalog has been recorded by artists like Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt, but hearing these songs from Karla herself is a completely different experience — intimate, honest, and beautifully direct. And on March 19 at 8:00 p.m., she's bringing that music to Annapolis for one night at Rams Head On Stage. We get into the craft, the career, and what fans can expect from a night with one of the most enduring voices in American songwriting. Have a listen! We've all seen the jokes about getting older and the requirement to get into birds. But you know, they ARE fascinating. Today, we talk with Kelly & John Gjovic, the owners of Wild Birds Unlimited in Edgewater, who were a wealth of information and likely the impetus for my next hobby! After a career in the retail and restaurant industry, they decided to make a more relaxing move. Nature is in John's DNA; hailing from North Dakota, he fondly recalls outings with his father and seeing the wealth of birds! While we are not North Dakota, we do have a wealth of birds in the area from finches, to robins, to bluebirds, to cardinals, and they all have different "personalities." And Wild Birds Unlimited has what is needed to bring it all together to make your yard attractive to our flying friends! Stop in and see for yourself and pick up some fresh seed, maybe a bird house or feeder, or go high-tech with a smart bird house and witness the circle of life! And don't forget the Daily Savings Club! But first... Have a listen! PS: On March 7th, Wild Birds Unlimited will host a free seminar with ornithologist Judy Wink, from the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (CBEC), to talk all about Bluebirds. Mark the calendar! What happens when a new business turns from WTF to OMG? That happened to me and Nothing Bundt Cakes. When they first opened in Annapolis, my initial thought was, bundt cakes?? And then I tried one. Ditch any preconceptions of a dry, dense plate of meh! These are moist, creamy, and delicious, and come in a dozen flavors and many sizes! We recently sat down with owners Glenn and Rhonda Rogers and their Area Director, Samantha Colletti, to talk about bundt! Some fun facts for you. They are all baked fresh daily in the back of the store--each location has its own bakery. The couple currently has three locations (Annapolis, Gambrills, and Severna Park), with another one on the way (Bowie), and potentially FOUR more shortly. Apparently, there is a demand for bundt cakes! If you need a dose of yum... Have a listen! LINKS: Nothing Bundt Cakes (Website) Nothing Bundt Cakes (Facebook) Nothing Bundt Cakes (Instagram)

Ray Weaver is a staple in the Annapolis St. Paddy's Day revelry, playing non-stop gigs at Galway Bay, Killarney House, and Brian Boru. But not this year! Initially, he was going to take a pause for 2026, but the lure of the stage at Rams Head On Stage was too much, and he and his full band will be returning to Annapolis on February 24th for a single show supported by the Annapolis Songbird Collective--Meg Murray, Laura Brino, and Madisun Bailey! Ray is based in Denmark, so we synchronized our clocks and hopped on the phone to talk about the show, and his excitement was palpable. There will be some faves, of course, and he will not shy away from the storytelling that makes the shows so special! For the uninitiated, Ray's shows stoke conversations, and they are memorable. But you won't remember it, unless you are there, so be sure to grab a pair of tickets! But first... Have a listen!
