The Range Rover is arguably the definitive luxury SUV, and it wasn't possible without the long-lived aluminum Buick V-8. The Buick "Small-Block" 225-cubic inch V-8 was made entirely out of aluminum — very rare for the 1950s. It wound being turbocharged for the one of the first-ever production turbocharged cars, the Oldsmobile Jetfire. It was ultimately too expensive for production, and was fraught with casting issues, so Buick killed its V-8 — and Rover bought it. The powerful V-8 was (literally) the driving force behind the Range Rover — arguably the first SUV to create today's Luxury SUV formula. In this episode, walking encyclopedia Derek Tam-Scott and automotive journalist Jason Cammisa discuss the Buick V-8 in all its applications, including Jason's favorite 5-door, rear-drive luxury hatchback, the Rover SD1 3500. They also discuss a hair-raising incident Jason caught on his dash cam — a Mustang that passed him at over 150 mph on the shoulder, coming within inches of hitting him. == The Carmudgeon Show is part of the Hagerty Podcast Network. To start the show, Nate Shelman was joined by Idaho GOP Chairwoman Dorothy Moon. They discussed what options the Idaho Republican Party has to reinstate the Presidential Primary in Idaho. If you are an Idaho Republican, do you prefer a primary election, caucus, or conference, to select a presidential nominee? Nate opened up the next hour by talking about Scott Baio. That lead to a brief conversation about California wanting reparations. Do you believe the polls? Right now, the polls put Trump beating Biden in a hypothetical 2024 Presidential rematch. Nate is really tired of AR-15s being discussed. Even thought it goes against his principles, why shouldn't we just ban them at this point? Nate asks AR-15 owners to call in and discuss how they feel that a weapon that they also own is being used to commit horrible crimes. To wrap up the show Nate also asked Range Rover owners to call in to discuss how they feel about their car being used in a mass murder. (5/18/23)
The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: It is time the credentialed, smarter than the rest of us, liberals explain one off their shibboleths: How does it work? How does the existence or availability of a firearm turn a non-murderer into a murderer? How does a specific style of weapon (that works just like others such as an AR-15 style rifle) magically influence a human being to commit murder? I'd really like to have this explained given that mostly it's the only answer liberal offer up to murder and mass murder: That it is because (the causal agent) a certain type of gun is available.Clearly an SUV can kill just as many people as happened in Brownsville Sunday as can a rifle in Allen so why is Range Rover not blamed for those deaths in the Valley while a gun is blamed, more than the murderer it seems, in Allen? And why are liberals, and the Godless, sin-celebrating, and nihilistic society they have championed never, never at fault for anything? Clearly they despise discussion of God, His law, and His mercy. The anti-gun crowd can't even allow for a church prayer vigil to take place without an attack. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Rep. Bryan Slaton resigns before the Texas House votes on expelling him.Voters in San Antonio and El Paso reject far-Leftwing city charter propositions.Abbott ups border presence with another claim intercept, repel and turn back migrants.” Fine but so far that has not happened despite previous claims. And, other news of Texas.Listen on the radio, or station stream, at 5pm Central. First: Police are mulling over possible motives after a mass shooter blasted his way through an outlet mall in Allen, Texas, taking eight innocent lives. Plus: Another eight people are dead in Brownsville, Texas, after a Range Rover bulldozes migrants. And: New polling shows America is deeply unhappy with Joe Biden -- including Democrats -- as the president confronts crises on the border and on Capitol Hill. The 2023 Land Rover Range Rover enters continues the company's push for the fifth-generation Range Rover. Dubbed the New Range Rover, this latest Rangie sticks with the luxurious appointments that have made it a hit among luxury SUV fans and it offers some interesting solutions for comfort off-road. Most importantly, the new Range Rover ushers in some new powertrains. While the hybrid and mild hybrid units might be more popular, this 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 could be the most fun of the bunch. The turbocharged V8 powering this tester sends 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's executive editor Tom Murphy hops behind the wheel of the latest Range Rover to put it through its paces. Murphy walks you around the latest Range Rover to highlight some of its more interesting features before climbing inside to tell you about his experience with the interior. Later, Murphy takes you along on a live drive review of the '23 Range Rover LWB. Joining the fun, host Wesley Wren chats with Murphy about the new Range Rover, the status of the company and what this car competes against. Closing the show, the pair breakdown what makes the '23 Range Rover special.

Tom and guest host Paul Herrold of the Sons of Speed (Jill is traveling this week) opened the show discussing the surprising rebranding happening at Jaguar Land Rover. Tom and Paul agree that the planned updates, which include spinning Discovery off as a separate brand, foretell the demise of Jaguar in the U.S. Paul shared news regarding a personal car purchase. Paul recently took delivery of a BMW M2, a vehicle he plans to enjoy on the race track. The hosts are joined in the second segment by Sam Fiorani of AutoForecast Solutions. Sam updated the team on what's brewing with the UAW contract negotiations coming later this summer. Sam also shared some history and background information on Polestar, the new luxury EV brand owned by Volvo parent company Geely. Sam explained how Polestar will be operating outside the traditional dealership model. In the third segment Paul is subjected to Tom's “French Car or Asthma Drug” quiz. After the quiz Tom lamented about how small turbocharged engines lack the smoothness and progressive power delivery of old-school V6 engines. Tom used the updated Buick Enclave, which features a big V6, as an example of excellent powertrain refinement.
Barry the Movie Critic and his long suffering wife Julia take you back to that mystical time when a demonstration of social status meant having a fax machine in your Range Rover. This week, your hosts discuss Robert Altman's "The Player" (1992), the only movie wise enough to cast Lyle Lovett and Whoopi Goldberg as buddy cops. Julia admits to remembering it as "that movie where guys sit around and talk about movies" (pretty spot on, actually). Barry predictably drools over the opening scene, secretly admires Griffin Mill and recalls the bizarre & best experience he ever had in a movie theater...watching this movie. I welcome private investigator David McKelvey to the show in this interview episode. David was formerly a Detective Chief Inspector in the Metropolitan Police with over 60 commendations, and in 2007, he formed TM Eye, one of the UK's most active private investigation companies. In this episode, David and I primarily discuss the 1995 Rettondon murders, also known as the Range Rover murders or Essex Murders. David was responsible for first arresting key prosecution witness Darren Nicholls, the man who claimed to have been the getaway driver for Jack Steele and Jack Whomes, who were subsequently convicted of the murders. A gripping new three-part series called "The Essex Murders" launches on Sky Documentaries (and NOW) on April 15, 2023, and features David and his team's efforts to uncover the truth behind one of the most notorious multiple murders in British history. Ask your P&C Customer this question? If it was two minutes before you knew you were going to die and I could only write and issue you one policy, what policy would you want me to write? 95% of your customers will say "The biggest Life Insurance Policy you can write!" (Of course, there is always 5% that will give you some reason like "I am not going to leave a bunch of money so she can spend it on her next boyfriend." But . . . that is probably that same customer that drives a Range Rover with only liability coverage.) If life insurance is so important that it is the last policy a customer would want you to write before they died, why are you not offering it to them now? Insurance agents who specialize in Property and Casualty (P&C) policies can expand their services and revenue streams by offering life insurance to their existing customers. This is a smart move, as P&C policyholders are likely to have a higher trust level with their agent which can lead to increased loyalty and more business opportunities. Let us show you the Best Practices for effectively adding life insurance to your P&C Agency product mix.

In this episode, our guest is Eric L Hu, who is on a mission to help Americans ‘Save Money Live Better'. Currently serving as Principal, Group Strategy Lead at Walmart, Hu stewards a $100B portfolio for digital and in-store products across financial services, health & wellness, and consumer identity. Prior to the Fortune One, Eric spent the better part of a decade architecting customer experiences in highly regulated industries like automotive, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare. Hu's stochastic career path is aptly articulated by his mentor as a "musician turned marketer, forever a passionate performer." From an early age, he remembers his mom always saying something about an inability to sit still. Eric transitioned from a 13-year-long run in classical violin performance to the then-burgeoning NY startup scene, then to commercial photography for brands like Mercedes-Benz and Range Rover, and finally to the design agency world where he earned his pseudo-MBA at shops like AKQA, Havas, R/GA, Code & Theory, and Deloitte Digital. Today, Eric is dedicated to nurturing a community of troublemakers – strategic thinkers and creative dreamers who choose never to sit still. You will likely find him nursing chrysanthemum tea, obsessing over a vintage print-ad collection in his east village studio. In this week's show Jonny and Richard guiltily attempt to get through their massive backlog of listeners' messages. Topics covered include a retro Hyundai promotional CD, a strangely specced Daihatsu Charade, a weirdly named car website, the strange story of the Alfa Brera S, the fallout from BMW no longer supplying the police, a Range Rover track day car, a very odd hearse conversion, what happened when Richard won an enormous painting of Ayrton Senna, the deep disappointment of James Bond in a BMW Z3, and two-wheel-drive bicycles. patreon.com/smithandsniff Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. This week Oli and James P are joined by a special guest: Cosworth engine designer Matt Grant. Listen to an F1 nerd's dream as Matt reveals the secrets of Cosworth V10 and V8 engines from the late 1990s to 2013. We ask Matt about designing a V10 and V8 engine, how they compare to today's immensely complex power units, and how an engine made its way into a car after a team had agreed to use Cosworth V10/V8 We hear about Matt's first two seasons in 1997 and 1998. After a successful first season and tricky times in 1998, Cosworth jumped back to the front of the grid in 1999 with Johnny Herbert's famous win for Stewart at the Nurburgring. We find out Matt's thoughts on Ford buying Cosworth and works team Stewart in 1999, and how this affected Cosworth going into 2000. How did Cosworth interact with such a huge manufacturer? Matt gives us details on how the engine developed under the Jaguar name, and his thoughts on the blockbuster buyout from Red Bull after Ford sold Cosworth and Stewart in 2004. We get an insight into what happens when an F1 team fails: Arrows were a customer in 2002, but sadly went under midway through the season. With F1's "new teams" arriving in 2010, we hear about Cosworth's involvement as an engine supplier to all three teams. We get the details of h the final few weeks of the team's existence. Listen in Matt tells about his venture Modatek, and how it came about. We hear how these classic bespoke Cosworth engines are maintained, as well as his all-time favourite Cosworth engine and car combination. For extra nerdy goodness, here are some Cosworth V10 facts from Matt! Cosworth TJ V10 stats: Max power = 900 bhp, which equates to 300 hp/litre – the DFV only created 140 hp/litre when it first ran. Max speed = 19,000 rpm, which means that the piston moves up and down 300 times per second, which is 30 times in the blink of an eye. At this speed the piston goes from zero to over 60 mph and back to zero in a distance of just 44 mm, with only the two big end bolts stopping it from escaping. To keep the piston in the engine, the con rod bolts have to withstand a 3,000 kg load, which is more than the weight of a Range Rover, and the bolt thread is only 9mm. -- Keep up to date with all the latest Formula 1 News @ www.formulanerds.com -- Follow Us: Facebook - www.Facebook.com/FormulaNerds Twitter - www.twitter.com/Formula_Nerds Instagram www.instagram.com/FormulaNerds -- For Advertising & Sponsorship Opportunities:- Email Business@FormulaNerds.com Learn more about your ad choices. I believe that the person who deserves most to be interviewed for this milestone episode is my husband Hector who puts up with all my crazy ideas and supports everything I do. How much can one say about a whole life in 40 minutes? Well, we tried with Hector to talk about his most memorable journeys but also about the once we took together. Hector was born in Famagusta, Cyprus and he lost his home in 1974 when Famagusta was turned into a ghost town as its Greek Cypriot inhabitants were forced to flee. The invasion happened during a trip to visit relatives in New York and after a year of schooling in the US, he came back and lived with his family in Limassol while going back and forth to Nicosia to study at The English School. He then went back to study in New York and he holds a Bsc in Business and an MBA in International Finance both from St. Johns University in New York.He is a joint Managing Director at Orphanides & Murat, a company that was established in Famagusta in 1934. In this episode we talk about how we drove a Range Rover from England to Cyprus, how I broke the news to him in a hotel room in Toronto that i was pregnant with our first child and much more. Enjoy listening to this very personal story.https://orphanidesandmurat.com/

We love a brag here at UFYR, and we especially love a brag when it doubles as a fucking great lesson. This month, I bought my dream car. Now, when I say that, I need you to understand that I don't mean it casually. I mean it's my FUCKING. DREAM. CAR. If you know me at all, you know I have wanted a Range Rover ever since I was a little kid. My whole life, I have been wanting and wanting and wanting this car. And my moment finally came. But here's the thing: when I got to go test drive this car, I found myself cycling through some stories that told me I had to pick the best “middle ground.” I had to go for the entry-level Range Rover, not the top-of-the-line option. I wasn't there yet. I didn't deserve that. Um. Fucking what? Let me tell you exactly how that story ended, and why we all need to stop believing the lie of the in-between—both in life AND in love. After almost a decade, the folks at Land Rover are moving on from its fourth-generation Range Rover and into its fifth-gen luxe off-road bruiser. While the styling change isn't as dramatic as you'd expect, the changes are there. The new Range Rover offers a new infotainment system, a slew of new powertrains and, of course, fresh looks. While the new Range Rover is available in plug-in hybrid variants, this tester uses the 3.0-liter I6 mild hybrid for motivation. This 3.0-liter sports a turbocharger, supercharger and hybrid system to help it make 395 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. That power travels through an eight-speed automatic before hitting the all-wheel-drive system. On this episode of Quick Spin, Patrick Carone hops behind the wheel of the 2023 Land Rover Range Rover P400 and puts it through its paces. Carone walks you around the next-generation Land Rover Range Rover and highlights some of its new features before taking you along for a live drive review. Adding to the show, Host Wesley Wren chats with Carone about the new Range Rover, its competition and its spot in Land Rover's legacy. The pair discuss the Range Rover's price and if its luxury appointments are a good value. Closing the show, the two break down what makes this special.

5. ¡Era made in Spain! Porque lo fabricaba Santana en España. 6. Sus cualidades como TT eran impresionantes. 7.

Brian joins Alex this week to talk about the sub-brand trend, where automakers create families out of popular model lines. Toyota tried and failed with the Prius, Land Rover tried and massively succeeded with the Range Rover. GM seems to be considering going all-in with Camaro, Corvette and Escalade sub-brands. Should that be considered overkill, or are brands like Jeep and Ford onto something with this? Podcast theme by Brian Roskelly.
