Thomas Massie Questions Garland About the January 6 Shenanigans Play Audio At the end of the video, the same guy who is heard saying let's go into the capital several times is then seen saying something into the ear of a younger guy who then begins pushing on a blockade with several other guys and knocking it over -- knocking over one security guard in the process. So Thomas Massie played that video for Merrick Garland and then questioned him about it: Play: 0:56-2:18 Garland will not comment on whether that suspicious guy has been investigated, and he will not comment on whether any or how many federal agents may have been involved in going into the capitol building on January 6. Garland Also Questioned About Conflict of Interest Mike Johnson From Louisiana Play Audio: 0:24-4:30 So Rep. Mike Johnson pointed out that Attorney General Merick Garland's Son-in-Law is the co-founder of Panorama Education, a curriculum company that provides Critical Race Theory curricula to public schools. Rep. Johnson wonders if there is an ethics violation on the part of Merick Garland and presses him on why he didn't have that check by an independent source. The news, along with the president of WAZU, keep pushing the narrative that Coach Nick would not follow the University's requirements. But what actually happened, is that WSU, and probably the Governor for that matter, refused to grant him a religious exemption. That is criminal and I hope he sues, wins, and buys his former Athletic Director a backbone. My friend, Steve Deace, texted me this article, so hold onto your hats: Marine veteran wants to sue Walmart after pharmacist denied him access to ivermectin https://www.theblaze.com/news/marine-veteran-sue-walmart-pharmacist-ivermectin According to the Blaze: “A retired marine from Albert Lea, Minnesota, wants to take Walmart to court after a pharmacist refused to fill his doctor's prescription for ivermectin to treat his case of COVID-19. Bill Salier, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Somalia and a former U.S. Senate candidate, shared his story Monday on the "Steve Deace Show," describing how a local Walmart pharmacist refused to fulfill a doctor's prescription for ivermectin for both him and his wife, who had each come down with COVID-19. Salier, 53, told BlazeTV host Steve Deace that he began feeling sick on Oct. 1, and after testing he was found positive for COVID-19. After his diagnosis, Salier said he attempted to receive monoclonal antibody treatments by applying through the Minnesota Resource Allocation Platform, but his requests went unanswered. "We never so much as heard a word back, not even in acknowledgement that the requests had been put in," Salier said. Failing that, Salier obtained a doctor's prescription for ivermectin… "The prescription was sent in to our local Walmart, here in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and it was refused to be filled by the pharmacist. This pharmacist contacted my wife, telling her that he would not fill it. My wife stated that he did not have the right to stand between our physician's prescription and the patent, he asserted that he did have that right and he refused to do so," Salier said. Salier says he and his wife were left in "limbo" after the pharmacist continued to deny them access to ivermectin, even after their physician called him to discuss the matter. "We were faced with either continuing to suffer and quite possibly ending up in the hospital," he told Deace, explaining that they decided to take a risk and purchased a horse paste version of the drug that is not intended for human consumption and could be dangerous if overdosed. "I was forced with this decision and I was either going to lay there, suffer, and be at life's peril of losing my time with my family, or I was going to eat that horse paste. And down the hatch it went," Salier said. Fortunately, Salier did not overdose and reported to Deace that "within eight hours" he began to feel relief from his COVID-19 symptoms. Now, he says he wants a reckoning with Walmart and the pharmacist who denied him access to ivermectin. "If you ever wanted to find out what it is to punch a Marine in the face and what type of response you're gonna get, well, America, you're about to see the type of response that you get. Because if you take on me and my family, and you stand between our physician and the health care that they have prescribed to me as a life-saving thing — in my opinion that is what it did — then you have got a fight on your hands and I am coming for that fight." Salier is partnering with We the Patriots USA, a nonprofit organization that defends civil liberties, to raise money to file a federal lawsuit against the pharmacist and Walmart.” Mission First Coffee: "Calling all coffee lovers! Mission First Coffee is a company owned and run by friends of ours that offer specialty coffee shipped directly to your doorstep. 10% of every order goes to Paul Washer's HeartCry Missionary Society. Pfizer took hard line in push for profit https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2021/10/19/secret-vaccine-contracts-with-governments-pfizer-took-hard-line-push-profit-report-says/?utm_campaign=wp_main&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR1RfM15QG2VKhlQ6eoKuRuV5yVBOScKDlzq2uFOAaL-_1wp6Dkn5kA4ndQ According to the Washington Post: “The coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech has proved a success. First to receive emergency use authorization in the United States, the Pfizer shot has become the world's most popular, with 3.5 billion doses purchased. Sales could double in 2022, according to projections. Analytics firm Airfinity this week predicted Pfizer will sell $54.5 billion worth of coronavirus vaccine next year, almost twice the value of Moderna's sales. In the article I could only find one country and its related pricing: “Brazil signed a $1 billion contract with the drug giant for 100 million doses. “ “Pfizer has formalized 73 deals for its coronavirus vaccine. According to Transparency International, a London-based advocacy group, only five contracts have been formally published by governments, and these with “significant redactions.”” John Piper finally chimes in on the vaccine debate, and the title of his post is: “A Reason to Be Vaccinated: Freedom” https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/a-reason-to-be-vaccinated-freedom He begins the article with: “My aim in this article is to encourage Christians to be vaccinated, if they can do so with a good conscience and judicious medical warrant.” And because I really do like John Piper, I am not going to read the rest of the article to you and further damage the respect I have for him...Ugh. The Biden administration is rolling back its awful bank-account-monitoring proposal but the new plan is pretty bad too https://notthebee.com/article/the-biden-administration-is-rolling-back-its-awful-bank-account-monitoring-proposal-but-the-new-plan-is-pretty-bad-too According to Not the Bee: “We all know that for months now the Biden administration has had grand designs for closely monitoring pretty much every single private bank account in the United States. Well, the backlash to that plan was so strong that Washington Democrats have retreated to an alternative proposal, but frankly that one stinks too:” According to the Wall Street Journal: https://www.wsj.com/articles/irs-bank-reporting-democrats-11634658560 “Democrats are trying to salvage the Biden administration's proposal to expand annual bank-account reporting to the Internal Revenue Service, fighting uphill against mounting opposition from the financial-services industry and Republicans. Sens. Ron Wyden (D., Ore.) and Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) will detail an updated version of the tax-compliance plan on Tuesday that will include a $10,000 annual threshold before reports are required, according to prepared remarks from Mr. Wyden. That is an increase from the administration's broader floor, which would include accounts with at least $600 in inflows, outflows or transactions.” Dont we have a right to privacy? Should the number not be $10,000 or $600, but zero, zilch, zip? Portland sets new homicide record, uses traffic barrels to combat drive-by shootings https://www.foxnews.com/us/portland-oregon-sets-new-homicide-record According to Fox News: “The number of homicides in Portland has now surpassed its previous annual record of 66, set in 1987 – and there are still more than two months to go in the calendar year. As of Tuesday, Oregon's largest city has recorded 67 killings so far this year, three-quarters of which have been carried out by firearms, according to the Associated Press. The total number of shootings – around 1,000 – has also left an additional 314 people injured. Nationally, homicides increased by nearly 30% from 2019 to 2020, based on FBI data. However, in Portland, deadly violence is increasing at a faster rate than nearly all major cities, with an 83% increase in homicides in 2020, according to the Associated Press. Portland has seen more homicides in 2021 than some larger cities, including San Francisco, and it's had twice as many slayings as its larger Pacific Northwest neighbor, Seattle. Other hard-hit Western cities include the Albuquerque, New Mexico, metro area, which has about 679,000 residents and has seen a record 97 homicides this year. Portland police have struggled to quell the violence, with the bureau 128 officers below authorized strength. Since August 2020, about 200 officers have left the department. Many, in their exit interviews, cited low morale, lack of support from city officials and burnout from months of racial justice protests, which often ended in plumes of tear gas and confrontation but have largely died down since last summer.” Closing This is Gabriel Rench with Crosspolitic News. Go to FLF Network dot com and click on “join the club.” And we promise not to stop being rowdy. Bari Weiss on Commentary “We Got Here Because of Cowardice. We Get Out With Courage: Say No to the Woke Revolution” https://www.commentary.org/articles/bari-weiss/resist-woke-revolution/ “A lot of people want to convince you that you need a Ph.D. or a law degree or dozens of hours of free time to read dense texts about critical theory to understand the woke movement and its worldview. You do not. You simply need to believe your own eyes and ears. Let me offer the briefest overview of the core beliefs of the Woke Revolution, which are abundantly clear to anyone willing to look past the hashtags and the jargon... ...In this ideology, speech is violence. But violence, when carried out by the right people in pursuit of a just cause, is not violence at all. In this ideology, bullying is wrong, unless you are bullying the right people, in which case it's very, very good. In this ideology, education is not about teaching people how to think, it's about reeducating them in what to think. In this ideology, the need to feel safe trumps the need to speak truthfully... How did we get here? There are a lot of factors that are relevant to the answer… But there is one word we should linger on, because every moment of radical victory turned on it. The word is cowardice. The revolution has been met with almost no resistance by those who have the title CEO or leader or president or principal in front of their names. The refusal of the adults in the room to speak the truth, their refusal to say no to efforts to undermine the mission of their institutions, their fear of being called a bad name and that fear trumping their responsibility—that is how we got here. Brian Stelter CNN Interview with Bari Weiss Play Audio Weiss continues: “George Orwell said that “the further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.” In an age of lies, telling the truth is high risk. It comes with a cost. But it is our moral obligation. It is our duty to resist the crowd in this age of mob thinking. It is our duty to think freely in an age of conformity. It is our duty to speak truth in an age of lies. This bravery isn't the last or only step in opposing this revolution—it's just the first. After that must come honest assessments of why America was vulnerable to start with, and an aggressive commitment to rebuilding the economy and society in ways that once again offer life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to the greatest number of Americans. But let's start with a little courage. Courage means, first off, the unqualified rejection of lies. Do not speak untruths, either about yourself or anyone else, no matter the comfort offered by the mob. And do not genially accept the lies told to you. If possible, be vocal in rejecting claims you know to be false. Courage can be contagious, and your example may serve as a means of transmission.” Weiss goes on to give a list of her own suggestions of where to throw down with current lies being circulated. There's a lot to appreciate about this piece, and a great deal to agree with. But Bari Weiss is a Lesbian Liberal. This doesn't mean she cannot see these true things. But it means she doesn't see them as clearly as she should. I pray that this is the beginning of an honest search for truth -- true truth, the kind that goes all the way down. Her Judaism no doubt gives her some sense of the transcendent, but even religion untethered from a fixed, objective revelation from a personal God, is a wax nose. If she can explain away the passages in the Torah that clearly prohibit her sexual immorality, why can't we all be relativists? Does she believe her God created the heavens and the earth in six days? If Darwin trumps that, then I'm afraid there's no reason why Darwin can't trump these white patriarchal notions of truth. If we got here by survival of the fittest, there's no good reason to protest against the woke jihad since, they're just trying to survive. Where do you get these benighted notions of equality and dignity and justice, Mr. Weiss when we all descended from mindless pondscum. There's no dignity or justice if we are just a cosmic accident. Mr. Weiss is trying to have a world where truth exists while pretending it doesn't have to be held together by Jesus Christ. Mission First Coffee: "Calling all coffee lovers! Philly Driving Equality Bill https://www.inquirer.com/news/philadelphia-city-council-isaiah-thomas-police-driving-while-black-20211014.html Philadelphia on Thursday approved groundbreaking legislation that will bar its police officers from pulling over drivers for low-level motor vehicle offenses like broken taillights, a long-standing law enforcement tool that critics said led to Black motorists being stopped at disproportionate rates. With a 14-2 vote, City Council passed the Driving Equality Bill, which details seven offenses — including improperly displayed registration or emission stickers — as “secondary violations” that cannot be the sole reason for police to pull over a driver. Instead, officers can issue citations for those infractions that will be mailed to drivers. The legislation will take effect 120 days after Mayor Jim Kenney signs it, which he is expected to do in the coming days. In doing so, Philadelphia became the first large U.S. city to ban the use of so-called pretextual stops for low-level infractions, a practice that police departments have not only permitted, but encouraged for years to enable officers to potentially search the cars of drivers they suspected of carrying illegal drugs or weapons. Instead, critics say, it led to motorists being unfairly stopped and searched for what's become known as driving while Black. The new law is likely to have a significant impact on the nature of policing in Philadelphia. About 97% of police vehicle stops are for low-level violations, according to the Defender Association. Eliminating those could lead to as many as 300,000 fewer police encounters each year, it projected.” On the one hand, I welcome the thought of 300,000 fewer police encounters. There is no biblical basis for pulling people over for having mud flaps that are slightly too small, for example, as I was earlier this year. Or for having improperly displayed emissions stickers. But this is more of that woke nonsense and therefore I'm worried about where it's taking us. What is the standard for justice here? Calling this the “Driving Equality Bill” tells you that the standard at work here is about as predictable as what a six year old boy wants to tell you when he's waiving his arm around eagerly in the back row of first grade. No offense to first grade boys, but let's just say we never know what you're going to say next. Speaking of which... Chinese Supersonic Missile Caught US Intelligence Offguard https://www.businessinsider.com/chinas-hypersonic-missile-surprised-us-spies-with-its-space-capability-2021-10 “China demonstrated advanced space capability by testing a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile in August, the Financial Times reported, citing five sources familiar with the test. The hypersonic glide vehicle launched by the Chinese military circled the globe in low-orbit space before speeding towards its target, sources told the paper. Although the missile missed its target by about two-dozen miles, the test demonstrated China's advanced space capability and took US intelligence by surprise, sources told the Financial Times. The test showed that China had made "astounding progress" on hypersonic weapons and was far more advanced than US officials realized, two sources said, according to the paper. "We have no idea how they did this," another source told the paper. Several countries, including the US, Russia, and China, are competing to develop hypersonic weapons. The missiles fly at low-altitude trajectories at more than five times the speed of sound. Glide vehicles are a type of hypersonic weapon launched into space on a rocket but orbit the earth under their momentum. Unlike ballistic missiles, they are maneuverable and do not follow a fixed trajectory, making them harder to track and defend against.” There are real world consequences for rejecting Christ. The fool says in his heart there is no god. When you reject Christ, you become stupid. Professing to be wise, foolish hearts become darkened. And you can't keep up economically, technologically, or militarily. Governor Candidate Says He Will Never Allow School Choice in Virginia Play Audio Terry McAuliffe has four kids going to 30K per student tuition private school and opposes the use of vouchers to send poorer kids to private schools. But it's actually not just that. He opposes allowing parents to keep their own money to pay for the education that they believe is best for their own kids. He supports taking money from hard working families whether or not they want to pay for government schools. Why would anyone want to get their kids out of government schools? Loudoun County School Board Meeting Erupt in Chaos Back in June https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10083783/Loudoun-County-father-arrested-school-meeting-says-daughter-raped-boy-girls-bathroom.html#v-4656337064846966859 Play Audio: 0:21-0:31 That's the video/audio of the school board meeting back in June where Scot Smith was arrested for exploding at the school board. What was the board discussing that day? Transgender policies. What was the frustrated 48-year old father trying to say? He was trying to tell the room that his daughter had been raped by a boy at school in the girls' bathroom. In an interview with The Daily Wire that was published on Monday, he explained that he was trying to stick up for his daughter, who was attacked at Stone Bridge High School in a girl's restroom on May 28 by a boy 'wearing a skirt.' Smith says the boy took advantage of the school's trans policies to get into the girls' bathrooms and assault her. On the day of the incident, Smith says the school told him to come to the campus because his daughter had been physically assaulted. They did not say she had been sexually assaulted. Once he got there, he says school staff told him they would handle it internally, choosing not to call the police for an as-yet unexplained reason. He was enraged by the decision and challenged them on it. The school board then did call the police but to report Smith, not the boy, for making a scene. The school's principal sent out an alert that day warning parents of what had happened involving Smith, but it said nothing of the sexual assault allegations in the bathroom. Smith and his daughter ultimately ended up at the hospital where a rape kit was performed that verified his daughter's claim. They took it to the police and a case was then opened. Meanwhile, it would be two months before the boy was arrested, a month after the crazy school board meeting. So the boy in a skirt who had assaulted his daughter in a ladies' room was still at large, when at the meeting on June 22 the board took up discussion of their trans policy. During the meeting, Loudoun County School Superintendent Scott Ziegler said the school had never had any form of incident inside a bathroom or locker room involving a transgender child. 'To my knowledge, we don't have any record of assaults occurring in our restrooms,' he said. He went on to quote Time magazine research that he said disproved the notion transgender kids might sexually attack cisgender kids, and said: 'I think it's important to keep our perspective on this, we've heard it several times tonight from our public speakers but the predator transgender student or person simply does not exist.' And it was this claim that caused Smith to became irate. He started arguing with another woman at the meeting, and called her names after she allegedly denied his daughter's claim. He was then charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The boy was finally arrested a month after that, but here's the crazy part: earlier this month in October, the same boy was arrested again on different charges for allegedly assaulting a different girl, at a different school. He is now in a juvenile detention center. The Smiths were understably stunned when the same boy was arrested again on October 6, at a different school in the same district. On this occasion, he was charged with 'with sexual battery and abduction', allegedly holding a different girl in a classroom to attack her in Broad Run High School - 2.5miles from the high school where Smith's daughter was assaulted. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office did confirm the October 6 incident, saying in a press release on October 7: 'A teenager from Ashburn has been charged with sexual battery and abduction of a fellow student at Broad Run High School. All of this comes on the heels of the Biden Justice Department announcement last week that the FBI would now investigate and prosecute any parent who it deems to be 'threatening' towards school staff. The order from Attorney General Merrick Garland was in response to a request from the National School Board Association to President Biden, asking him to protect them from angry parents. All of this reminds me of the day that James Coates was arrested in Alberta, Canada for holding church services against COVID regulations. On the very same day, a sexual predator was released into the community from the same jail where Coates was admitted. Not only was the sexual predator released but law enforcement officials released the criminal with a community warning advising that he was considered likely to recommit crimes. This is what happens when you abandon God's word. When you have no anchor, no foundation, everything is tossed by the wind and waves. You have the storm of liberals, the storm of conservatives, rage, hate, shame, and chaos. And there will only be more if we do not turn back to Christ and His word. And the first thing you ought to do is get your kids out of those schools. It is worth the sacrifice. It is worth working longer hours. Yeah, I don't think so, Mr. Clooney. Psalm of the Day: Africa “Now Shall My Inward Joys Arise” Can a kind woman e'er forget The infant of her womb? Americans' trust of the media is absolutely in the gutter https://notthebee.com/article/americans-trust-of-the-media-is-completely-in-the-gutter-and-boy-you-just-hate-to-see-it And the Bee notes about the Gallup research: “when political differences are accounted for, the results diverge sharply along party lines: Just 11% of Republicans trust the media, while 68% of Democrats do. But even the Democratic numbers have declined notably in recent years, as have those of Independents.” I can't help but to insert Club plug here. This is sort of self serving, but I cannot think of a better way to fight mainstream media, than by first joining a solid bible believing church, and secondly joining our club. Our goal here, and I hope we are doing a pretty good job of this, is to proclaim the Lordship of Christ over politics, produce quality news and commentary that you can trust, and build a network that surpass unprincipled legacy media like Fox News. So, go to FightLaughFeast.com to sign up and support our efforts. Texas governor bans Covid-19 vaccine mandates by any employer in state https://apple.news/AbFpB3TM-RoeortH-jmAnHA Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday issued an executive order banning all state entities, including private employers, from enforcing vaccine mandates, the latest escalation in the Republican's resistance to public health measures during the Covid-19 pandemic. The order states that "no entity in Texas" can enforce vaccination against anyone in the state who objects "for any reason of personal conscience, based on a religious belief, or for medical reasons, including prior recovery from COVID-19," according to a news release from the governor's office. "The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and our best defense against the virus, but should remain voluntary and never forced," Abbott said in a statement. Abbott also called on the Texas state Legislature to pass a law with the same effect. The executive order would be rescinded upon the passage of such legislation, the governor's office said. Southwest, American among Texas businesses defying Abbott to comply with federal vaccine mandate https://www.statesman.com/story/business/2021/10/12/southwest-american-plan-ignore-abbott-comply-vaccine-mandate/8423456002/ Now according to the Satesman, there is a battle of the gods, and it looks like the federal god won: “Two of the national's largest airlines — Southwest Airlines and American Airlines — both based in Texas, said Tuesday they plan to follow looming federal guidelines and require that their employees are vaccinated against COVID-19, despite an order from Gov. Greg Abbott that attempts to block such mandates. Dallas-based Southwest Airlines last week ordered all of its estimated 55,000 employees to be vaccinated against COVID 19 by Dec. 8. That folowed a directive from President Joe Biden, who in September said all private companies with more than 100 workers must require employees to be vaccinated or conduct weekly tests for the coronavirus. Southwest said in a written statement Tuesday that the president's executive order “supersedes any state mandate or law,” saying the company is required to adhere to it despite Abbott's action “to remain compliant as a federal contractor.”” But listen to this. In the same article: “Amber Gunst, CEO of the Austin Technology Council, said most companies in Texas are unlikely to follow the governor's mandate. Employers don't have the option to defy OSHA standards, both for legal reasons and for insurance-related concerns, she said. "When the federal government comes in with OSHA and they say, 'this is what we need to do in order to keep employees safe,' companies have to follow those rules in order to be in compliance with OSHA, so I don't really feel that most companies are going to look at the mandate that the governor created and want to adhere to that," Gunst said. "Companies don't have an option to choose to not be in compliance with OSHA. They will have a very strict, and steep price to pay if they're not in compliance with OSHA." Gunst said she thinks most companies will see Abbott's order "as a nuisance that the governor has created." The question is a nuisance to who? Who is being the nuisance? Who is forcing people to vax? The Wallstree Journal captures this gem: https://www.wsj.com/articles/covid-19-vaccine-mandate-fight-between-texas-and-biden-has-companies-caught-in-the-middle-11634073605 “The Greater Houston Partnership, which represents some 900 companies including Exxon Mobil Corp., JPMorgan Chase & Co., Chevron Corp. and Accenture PLC, said Tuesday that Mr. Abbott's order would make it more difficult for Texas businesses to operate safely. The organization has been generally supportive of Mr. Biden's efforts to require vaccines for large employers.” Texas companies are showing more loyalty to the federal government, than to their state. We be tripp'n. Joe Biden's Vaccine Mandate Doesn't Exist. It's Just A Press Release https://thefederalist.com/2021/10/07/joe-bidens-vaccine-mandate-doesnt-exist-its-just-a-press-release/?s=04#.YV9Ab7sLmEY.twitter According to Joy Pullmann over at The Federalist: “Yes, we've heard all about Joe Biden's alleged vaccine mandate for private companies employing 100 or more people. It was all over the news even before he announced it on September 9. His announcement has jeopardized the employment of millions of Americans and increased worker shortages in critical domains such as health care. There's only one problem. It's all a mirage. Biden's so-called vaccine mandate doesn't exist — at least, not yet. So far, all we have is his press conference and other such made-for-media huff-puffing. No such rule even claiming to be legally binding has been issued yet. That's why nearly two dozen Republican attorneys general who have publicly voiced their opposition to the clearly unconstitutional and illegal mandate haven't yet filed suit against it, the Office of the Indiana Attorney General confirmed for me. There is no mandate to haul into court. And that may be part of the plan. According to several sources, so far it appears no such mandate has been sent to the White House's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs yet for approval. The White House, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Department of Labor haven't released any official guidance for the alleged mandate. There is no executive order. There's nothing but press statements. Despite what you may have been falsely led to believe by the media fantasy projection machine, press statements have exactly zero legal authority. To impose the public perception of a mandate, the Biden administration is following an unusual rule-making process it also employed earlier this year, called an emergency temporary standard (ETS). The spring ETS rule took nearly six months to issue. Meanwhile, companies are telling reporters their vaccine mandates will have at the latest December deadlines. (For those who can't calendar, that's four months after Biden's non-existent mandate was proclaimed. According to OSHA, an ETS takes up to six months to go into effect after the initial mandate is issued in the Federal Register — which, again, for the proclaimed 100-employee mandate hasn't happened yet.) Lawyers for big business were blunt about their love for this mandate mirage: “Everybody loves this cover,” Minneapolis employment lawyer Kate Bischoff told Bloomberg Law in September. “Many were already looking down the road at doing this, but the fact that they get to blame Biden is like manna from heaven.” Using the ETS procedure instead of normal federal rule-making processes both allows the Biden administration to push its demands faster and without any public input or requirement of responding to public input, which is normally required of even legally laughable federal rule-making like this one would be. That is part of why ETS rules have been overwhelmingly overturned in courts. Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal published a letter from Bruce Atkinson making several excellent observations about the nonexistent mandate, including the following:” “The mandate's nonexistence shields the Biden administration from legal challenges that may ultimately restrict the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's authority. Yet the mandate is still effective at compelling industries and companies into compliance, as it leaves room for any eventual issuance to target noncompliant entities. This implied cudgel is particularly effective on industries and companies that are dependent on federal spending or the goodwill of federal regulators. The nonexistent mandate also allows so-inclined state and local governments and companies to issue their own mandates, seemingly in lockstep with Washington. The Biden White House has been well-served by presenting a nonexistent mandate as a done deal.” Guitar AD Have you always wanted to play guitar but didn't know where to start? A record 4.3 million workers quit their jobs in August, led by food and retail industries https://www.cnbc.com/2021/10/12/a-record-4point3-million-workers-quit-their-jobs-in-august-led-by-food-and-retail-industries.html According to CNBC: “Workers left their jobs at a record pace in August, with bar and restaurant employees as well as retail staff quitting in droves, the Labor Department reported Tuesday. Quits hit a new series high going back to December 2000, as 4.3 million workers left their jobs. The quits rate rose to 2.9%, an increase of 242,000 from the previous month, which saw a rate of 2.7%, according to the department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. The rate, which is measured against total employment, is the highest in a data series that goes back to December 2000. Quits have been seen historically as a level of confidence from workers who feel they are secure in finding employment elsewhere, though labor dynamics have changed during Covid-19 crisis. Workers have left their jobs because of health concerns and child care issues unique to the pandemic's circumstances. A total of 892,000 workers in the food service and accommodation industries left their jobs, while 721,000 retail workers departed along with 534,000 in health care and social assistance. “As job openings and hires fell in August, the quits rate hit a new series high, surging along with the rise in Covid cases and likely growing concerns about working in the continuing pandemic,” said Elise Gould, senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute.” Now two questions for me arise out of this information. Why are these people quitting, and where are they going? I could not dig up the answer for where these quitters went, and the best answer I could dig up for why they are quitting coming from the Business, Insider where they speculate: https://www.businessinsider.com/over-4-million-workers-quit-record-labor-shortage-great-resignation-2021-10 “Workers are likely quitting over work conditions, pay, the virus, or contemplation of their lives.” Bottom line is the government has created a catawampus economy, and screws up all the incentives, this makes it hard to understand what is really going on here. Pelosi signals big spending package will shrink to $2 trillion https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/congress/pelosi-signals-2-trillion-spending-bill Facing intractable opposition from party centrists, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Democrats will have to “make tighter decisions” on a massive social welfare spending package that is stalled in Congress. Pelosi, a California Democrat, acknowledged in a press conference Tuesday that the $3.5 trillion package planned by Democrats will have to shrink to about $2 trillion, telling reporters, “The fact is there are fewer dollars to spend, there are choices to be made, and the members have said let's get the results we need, but we will not diminish the transformative nature of what it is.” Pelosi, in a memo to Democrats late Monday, told them caucus members are calling for a spending package that will “do fewer things well so that we can still have a transformative impact on families in the workplace and responsibly address the climate crisis.” Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, set an Oct. 31 deadline to advance the package. Tight race in Virginia gubernatorial showdown with three weeks until election https://www.foxnews.com/politics/virginia-gubernatorial-showdown-three-weeks-until-election Tuesday marks three weeks to go until Election Day in Virginia, and the top-of-the- ticket race remains an extremely close contest in one of just two states to hold gubernatorial elections in the year after a presidential contest. An average of the latest polls in the race indicates that former Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe – who's running for his old job – holds a slight, single-digit edge over Republican nominee Glenn Youngkin in a state that President Biden won by 10 points in last year's election and where Republicans haven't won a statewide contest in a dozen years. The margin-of-error race in Virginia – a one-time key battleground but still competitive state which is seen as a key bellwether ahead of the 2022 midterm elections – has national Democrats on edge as they defend their razor-thin majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate in next year's contests. "Folks, the Virginia Governor's race is a big deal not just for the Commonwealth but for our country," Biden wrote to supporters in a fundraising email. And McAuliffe asked in a fundraising email last week, "Are we blowing this?" Virginia and New Jersey's elections for governor always grab outsized attention as they're the only states to hold such contests the year after the presidency's decided. And there's a long-running trend of voters in the commonwealth defeating the gubernatorial nominee of the party that controls the White House. McAuliffe broke with that tradition in 2013 with his election as governor. McAuliffe was unable to run for reelection in 2017 because Virginia governors are barred from serving two straight terms. And the McAuliffe campaign announced on Tuesday that the biggest name of all - former President Obama - will team up with the former governor on Oct. 23. Let's Go Brandon and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily Newsbrief. I'm Toby Sumpter and today is October 12, 2021. What do you do when you're a Christian University -- say Liberty University -- and you really want to join in the trend, but you're a Christian University? Play during opening music: 0:00-0:06 FEMA Failed to Investigate Half of the Sexual Misconduct Allegations https://justthenews.com/accountability/watchdogs/federal-sexcapades-fema-failed-properly-investigate-half-its-sexual Turns out FEMA is like the worst youth group missions trip on steroids. The U.S. government's disaster recovery agency received more than 300 allegations of workplace sexual misconduct and harassment from 2012 to 2018 and failed to properly investigate more than half of them, according to an internal watchdog report. This article says that the report “exposes the limits [of] the #MeToo movement has met inside the federal bureaucracy.” The limits of the #metoo movement… The article continues: The Federal Emergency Management Agency's problems extend beyond proper handling of complaints, as a survey of its workforce exposed a potentially pervasive hostile work environment, according to a report issued this month by the Homeland Security Department's inspector general. "One-third (255 of 765) of the employees who responded to our questionnaire indicated they had experienced sexual harassment or sexual misconduct, but they did not report it because they did not believe the allegations would be investigated," the inspector general reported. "Unaddressed sexual harassment and sexual misconduct in the workplace can have negative effects on employees, including decreased performance, low morale, and increased turnover," the report added [stating the screaming obvious.] They also noted that if you can't breathe it is not conducive to a long life. Also from the report: "The agency mustered a poor response to the flood of allegations," investigators said. These people are hilarious. Get it? Flood of allegations? FEMA? Hurricanes and floods and... "We were unable to determine whether FEMA properly handled 153 of these allegations, because it could not provide complete investigative and disciplinary files," the report said. "For allegations that had complete files available, at times we were unable to determine whether FEMA conducted an investigation. Finally, we found FEMA did not document whether it reviewed some sexual harassment-related Equal Employment Opportunity complaints to determine whether potential employee misconduct occurred." Look, I don't really trust the report -- since I have little confidence that biblical standards for evidence, testimony, and witnesses were follwed , but I do know that we live in a debauched culture, where public school sex education courses encourage pagan kids to do whatever feels good, and then we are somehow shocked when they grow up and do just that. I mean is Darwin right or not? Are we just highly evolved animals or not? 1:11-1:18 But of course rather than completely defunding FEMA as we ought to and letting the states and counties take care of themselves, we will no doubt create another government agency that is tasked with studying the sex habits of government employees. I actually do think this is tied to youth group mission trip culture. While I don't object to very carefully crafted mission trips, I'm generally against the whole lot because I think there's a high degree of likelihood that a bunch of hormonal teenagers can actually do a lot more harm than good. And I also think that those who are most invested in a community are in the best position to help their own communities. They have to live with the results of all their help. I mean I really do feel for Haiti-- for example. But we should all be looking at Haiti as a cautionary tale. How many millions were poured into that country after the earthquakes? And how's it doing? A complete mess? Right. Ditto for FEMA. Guitar AD Have you always wanted to play guitar but didn't know where to start? Doug Wilson Responds to the Maricopa County Audit https://dougwils.com/books-and-culture/s7-engaging-the-culture/maricopa-pudding.html “So I will look sideways—squinty-eyed and scowling—at this particular election to my dying day. And I will do so with sunshine in my conscience. Anomalies do require explanation. As Thoreau once put it, “Some circumstantial evidence is very strong, as when you find a trout in the milk.” You know, like a turtle on top of a fence post. When you are driving down a country road, and you happen to see a turtle on top of a fence post, the situation is clear, and the first thing that comes to mind is President Biden. You understand he didn't get there by himself, he really doesn't belong there, he doesn't know what to do as long as he's up there, and all you want to do is help the poor little guy get down. This election in Maricopa is like that. Not everything in this mess goes together. It is like you went to dig into your vanilla Maricopa pudding, made fresh just this morning, and you discover that it is resting on a bed of cole slaw.” Pastor Wilson also linked to this doozy of a conversation that happened in Maricopa County regarding the deleted/archived files from the voting machines that audit did not have access to. Play Audio: 0:00-1:54 When the voting machine records were subpoenaed, they just deleted/archived certain files and figured that the subpoena didn't apply to those records. Bring back my laugh track: HAHAHAHA! Former Pentagon Softwar Chief Says China Has Won the Tech War https://nypost.com/2021/10/11/pentagon-software-chief-nicolas-chaillan-resigns/?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=NYPTwitter&utm_medium=SocialFlow From the New York Post: The Pentagon's former software chief said he quit because China has already won the tech war guaranteeing global dominance — with some US government systems mere “kindergarten level” in comparison. Nicolas Chaillan, 37, told the Financial Times on Sunday that there is “good reason to be angry” at the US failing to rise to China's cyber threat, even fearing that it puts his children's future at risk. “We have no competing fighting chance against China in 15 to 20 years. Right now, it's already a done deal; it is already over, in my opinion,” Nicolas Chaillan, 37, told the paper. Chaillan — who was the Pentagon's first chief software officer — said China will dominate the future of the world by controlling everything from media narratives to geopolitics. He claimed that the US, like Beijing, should have prioritized artificial intelligence, machine learning and cyber capabilities over traditional military spending like building new fighter jets. “Whether it takes a war or not is kind of anecdotal,” he told the paper of his prediction of China's route to future world dominance. He attacked Google for not working on AI with the US Defense Department, while Chinese companies are obliged to work with Beijing. The US is also wasting time debating the ethics of AI while China makes “massive investment” and eschews such concerns, he said. Some US government cyber-defense systems are so dated, they are merely at “kindergarten level,” he insisted. “While we wasted time in bureaucracy, our adversaries moved further ahead,” Chaillan wrote in a scathing letter on LinkedIn last month when first announcing his resignation. “At this point, I am just tired of continuously chasing support and money to do my job,” he said of the pioneering Pentagon job that was “probably the most challenging and infuriating of my entire career.” Chaillan told the Financial Times that he plans in the coming weeks to testify to Congress about the Chinese cyber threat to US supremacy, including in classified briefings. [This] comes as a new poll shows that about 9 in 10 Americans are at least somewhat concerned about hacking, while about two-thirds say they are very or extremely concerned. The poll by the Pearson Institute and the Associated Press shows that roughly three-quarters also eye the Chinese and Russian governments as major threats to the cybersecurity of the US government. I mean, if we put this together with what we've already covered on today's newsbrief, there are troubling trends. Maricopa county voting officials have no concerns about deleting (I mean archiving) files before turning them over to an audit. And our Federal Emergency Management Agency cannot even manage the emergency of sexual misconduct in its own ranks. Put that together, and how likely does it seem that some of our governmental tech programs are kindergarten level compared to China? I would say the chances are pretty high. Remember Solomon: when he went in for all the sex, he had to build altars and shrines for all the gods of his wives and concubines. Instead of using his strength to continue to build productive and useful things, his strength was used to destroy his family and nation. Is America strong? Sure. But we are pouring our strength down the tubes. But let's not end on a sour note. Remember God is God, and this is His world. China's so-called strength isn't real strength either. As it happens, pure coercive power will crush LGBT flower power every day of the week, but both are false versions of power. Neither will ultimately work. Both are parasitic on Christian virtues. Both have to assume certain creational realities are real and true. They have to deny Darwin and believe that there is order and goodness in the universe in order to maintain a semblance of coherence. Food Stamp Benefits to Receive Historic Increase in October https://www.breitbart.com/health/2021/10/01/food-stamp-benefits-to-receive-historic-increase-in-october/ People who receive food stamps, known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), will notice a major and permanent increase starting in October. Beginning this month, the average benefits for food stamps will grow over 25 percent above pre-pandemic levels, and the additional assistance will be “available indefinitely to all 42 million SNAP beneficiaries,” “The increase coincides with the end of a 15% boost in SNAP benefits that was ordered as a COVID-19 pandemic protection measure, which expired on Sept. 30,” “In practical terms, the average monthly per-person benefits for qualified recipients will rise from $121 to $157 — or $36 per person, per month,” The increase is projected to cost an additional $20 billion per year but it doesn't have to be approved by Congress. A farm law passed in 2018 by the then-Republican led Congress and signed by former President Donald Trump already directed the department to reassess the Thrifty Food Plan by 2022 and every five years thereafter. Paper ball… Senate Republicans plan to block another debt ceiling vote as default risks rise https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2021/10/06/republicans-senate-debt-ceiling-default/?utm_campaign=wp_post_most&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&wpisrc=nl_most&carta-url=https%3A%2F%2Fs2.washingtonpost.com%2Fcar-ln-tr%2F34e4a0a%2F615dcde29d2fda9d41004e99%2F5fd17c37ade4e21670c1cfd7%2F10%2F70%2F615dcde29d2fda9d41004e99 Senate Republicans plan to block Democrats from raising the country's debt ceiling, daring President Biden and his party's top lawmakers to devise another path forward just 12 days before the U.S. government could run out of flexibility to pay its bills. For the third time in as many weeks, Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) is set to hold a vote on a measure that would suspend the borrowing limit into next year, aiming to act before Congress blows past an Oct. 18 deadline that could catapult the country into an economic recession. But the proposal is likely to be as doomed as the two that preceded it. Democrats for the moment cannot advance in the debate over the debt ceiling unless 10 GOP lawmakers join them — and Republicans once again are refusing to supply the votes as part of their broader campaign to oppose Biden's economic agenda. “They basically want us to be aiders and abettors to their reckless spending and tax policies, and we just aren't going to do it,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.). Absent congressional action, a default threatens to unleash widespread financial havoc: It could rattle markets, delay seniors' Social Security checks, prevent some families from receiving monthly child tax assistance and raise the cost of borrowing for millions of Americans by driving up interest rates. The Defense Department added Wednesday that it also would “seriously harm our service members and their families,” jeopardizing the government's ability to pay service members and civilians on time while providing benefits to veterans. Biden recently likened the doomsday scenario to a “meteor” crashing into the U.S. economy, only months after the coronavirus pandemic created the worst such devastation since the Great Depression. Paper ball… Democrats Wrangle Over How to Shrink $3.5 Trillion Proposal Lawmakers consider trims to package of healthcare, education and climate-change programs https://www.wsj.com/articles/democrats-wrangleover-how-to-shrink-3-5-trillion-proposal-11633466811?mod=itp_wsj&mod=djemITP_h President Biden acknowledged in a series of meetings with Democrats this week and on Friday that a package once pegged at $3.5 trillion would have to be smaller, given opposition from centrist Senate Democrats to a bill of that magnitude. Now, they are grappling with the tougher next step: deciding exactly how much narrower—and which of—their proposed child care, education or health programs would have to get trimmed or culled. “That's what the president wanted to hear from us: We know this isn't going to hit the $3.5 trillion—we all know that at this point—what are the most important needs of the American people?” said Rep. Cindy Axne (D., Iowa), who participated in a virtual meeting with Mr. Biden on Tuesday. Meeting with House Democrats on Friday, Mr. Biden had suggested that the package's overall spending level would likely be between $1.9 trillion and $2.3 trillion. Although Democratic leaders had initially agreed to roughly $3.5 trillion in spending, centrist Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona balked at that level. The two moderate Democrats have been negotiating for days with White House officials and Democratic leaders over the specifics of what they will be able to support. The two senators' approval is crucial because Democrats are planning to pass the package through a process linked to the budget, known as reconciliation, that allows it to clear the Senate with just a simple majority, rather than the 60 votes most bills require. With no GOP support expected, that means Democrats must still secure the support of every member of the Democratic caucus in the evenly split Senate and can afford no more than three defections in the House. Happy Birthday to my little sister! news@CrossPolitic.com Join our Business network: www.FLFnetwork.com/business Join our club. Memorandum: Enforcing reproductive responsibility among men https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/csm/showmemopublic.cfm?chamber=h&spick=20210&cosponid=36286&mobile_choice=suppress To: All House members Subject: Enforcing reproductive responsibility among men “For far too long, the public debate around abortion, contraception and related reproductive matters has thrust government into the center of restrictions on the bodily autonomy of women and girls. Rarely is there a meaningful dialogue around public policy focusing on the personal responsibility of cisgender men in this sphere. The rights of cisgender men have always been paramount in our society with little focus on their responsibility as inseminators to change their behaviors for the good of their partners, families, and society at large. As we head toward climax on this heated discourse around this delicate matter, we should come together to address it with surgical precision. We must also commit to mending the social fabric being sliced up by bitter acrimony. In order to improve public health outcomes and release sweet justice into our households and bedrooms, we must wrap our love of individual liberty in the moral imperative of greater personal responsibility and acknowledge men's essential role in procreation. Therefore, I will be introducing legislation that will require all inseminators to undergo vasectomies within 6 weeks from having their third child or 40th birthday, whichever comes first. Further, this legislation will allow Pennsylvanians to take civil action for unwanted pregnancies against inseminators who wrongfully conceive a child with them. This legislation will also empower Pennsylvanians to enforce this new law by offering a $10,000 reward for reporting to the proper authorities those scofflaws who have not complied with this statute within the allotted timeframe. As long as state legislatures continue to restrict the reproductive rights of cis women, trans men and non-binary people, there should be laws that address the responsibility of men who impregnate them. Thus, my bill will also codify “wrongful conception” to include when a person has demonstrated negligence toward preventing conception during intercourse. What's good for the goose is good for the gander! In the spirit of this popular axiom, I encourage my colleagues to take a gander at this forthcoming bill that seeks to end this egregiously gendered double standard for the benefit of all individuals, our families and our great commonwealth.” Texas Supreme Court Denies Planned Parenthood Challenge to Heartbeat Law https://www.texastribune.org/2021/10/04/texas-supreme-court-abortion-lawsuit/ “The Texas Supreme Court denied a request Monday from Planned Parenthood to resume its lawsuit, filed in a state district court, that challenges the state's near-total abortion ban. Planned Parenthood asked the all-Republican court last week to overturn the Texas Multidistrict Litigation Panel's decision to indefinitely pause its suit alongside 13 other lawsuits filed in Travis County district court. The panel of five judges stopped the cases from continuing at the request of Texas Right to Life, a prominent anti-abortion organization that helped draft Texas' abortion restrictions. “The Texas Supreme Court's decision to allow the stay to remain in effect is extremely disappointing and will likely deprive Planned Parenthood of its day in court, once again,” Helene Krasnoff, Planned Parenthood's vice president for public policy litigation and law, said in a statement. Elizabeth Myers, a Dallas-based attorney who represents plaintiffs for the other 13 lawsuits blocked, said Monday's ruling was disappointing, but she called the stay a temporary setback. “We'll present our arguments and the defendants will ultimately have to attempt to defend SB8 on the merits,” Myers said. “That is something the defendants are obviously scared and unwilling to do, so it's not surprising that they continue to try to delay it. At some point, their delay tactics will no longer work and our clients look forward to that day.” These lawsuits are not the only legal challenges to the state's abortion law, commonly known as Senate Bill 8. Abortion providers, doctors, women's rights groups and even the U.S. government are battling to overturn the law in federal courts. A federal appeals court is set to hold a hearing in December in one lawsuit aimed at overturning the restrictions. A federal judge is also expected to issue an order soon on whether to temporarily block enforcement of Texas' abortion law as part of a U.S. Justice Department lawsuit filed after the Biden administration vowed to challenge the statute. Also on Monday, the Biden administration reversed a 2018 decision by former President Donald Trump that disallows family planning clinics from receiving federal funding if they provide abortion referrals. Texas' near-total abortion ban has been in effect for more than a month, even as abortion providers, doctors, women's rights groups and the U.S. government have sought to block its enforcement. The statute bars abortions after approximately six weeks of pregnancy, before many know they're pregnant. Meanwhile, most abortions in the state — experts estimate more than 85% — have ceased, and some abortion clinics have stopped offering the procedure altogether.” Facebook Whistleblower wants more government regulation over Facebook: Facebook data scientist and now whistleblower, which she apparently leans far left, Frances Haugen told Congress on Wednesday that she thinks the government can fix Facebook. Roll clip: https://www.facebook.com/newsmax/videos/389524386113734 Government took action (public health): 4:15-5:20 Appreciate the government: 8:20 Now according to the AP: https://apnews.com/article/facebook-frances-haugen-congress-testimony-af86188337d25b179153b973754b71a4?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=AP&utm_campaign=SocialFlow “Democrats and Republicans on the committee said Tuesday's hearing showed the need for new regulations that would change how Facebook targets users and amplifies content. Such efforts have long failed in Washington, but several senators said Haugen's testimony might be the catalyst for change. “Our differences are very minor, or they seem very minor in the face of the revelations that we've now seen, so I'm hoping we can move forward,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., the panel's chairman. Still, Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota acknowledged that Facebook and other tech companies wield a lot of power in the nation's capital, power that has blocked reforms in the past. “There are lobbyists around every single corner of this building that have been hired by the tech industry,” Klobuchar said. “Facebook and the other tech companies are throwing a bunch of money around this town and people are listening to them.”” See how much Covid-19 relief money health care providers in your state got “Congress set up a massive, $178 billion fund in 2020 meant to help mitigate the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on health care providers, known as the Provider Relief Fund. The Trump and Biden administrations haven't always been reliable about sending out the money — or sending it on time. But STAT's new analysis of a Health and Human Services database of the money reveals where it's flowing and who has received the most so far. By far, the largest payments were made to the nation's biggest hospital systems. Fully five of the top 10 recipients of cash were New York City-area hospitals or health systems; together, they received some $3.1 billion. The New York and Presbyterian Hospital (usually styled “NewYork-Presbyterian”) alone brought in $631 million, topped only by the $1.2 billion that went to the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, a group that operates New York City's sprawling system of public hospitals and clinics.” My hospital, in little old Moscow Idaho, has received just north of $5M of COVID relief. How is it possible that in the middle of a pandemic, where our country is flush with health insurance, government backed (socialistic healthcare) programs, why do our hospitals need more government money? With new clients flooding our hospitals, wouldn't our hospitals have more money? Closing This is Gabriel Rench with Crosspolitic News. Yes, that was the sound of a toilet flushing and more on today's CrossPolitic Daily News Brief. This is Toby Sumpter. Today is Tuesday, October 5, 2021. AD: Did you know that more than 75% of those raised in evangelical, Presbyterian, and Reformed churches don't pursue any kind of Christian higher education? Surprising isn't it. Cornerstone Work & Worldview Institute is seeking to provide a new, exciting, and affordable option for Christians. Our program is offered face-to-face in beautiful Southern Illinois or remotely, anywhere you are. Visit our website at www.cornerstonework.org to find out more about enrolling. Facebook, Instagram Down https://blog.cloudflare.com/october-2021-facebook-outage/ Facebook and its affiliated services WhatsApp and Instagram all went down on Monday for almost five hours. Their DNS names stopped resolving, and their infrastructure IPs were unreachable. It was as if someone had "pulled the cables" from their data centers all at once and disconnected them from the Internet. How's that even possible? Meet BGP BGP stands for Border Gateway Protocol. It's a mechanism to exchange routing information between autonomous systems (AS) on the Internet. The big routers that make the Internet work have huge, constantly updated lists of the possible routes that can be used to deliver every network packet to their final destinations. Without BGP, the Internet routers wouldn't know what to do, and the Internet wouldn't work. The Internet is literally a network of networks, and it's bound together by BGP. BGP allows one network (say Facebook) to advertise its presence to other networks that form the Internet. As we write Facebook is not advertising its presence, ISPs and other networks can't find Facebook's network and so it is unavailable. The individual networks each have an ASN: an Autonomous System Number. An Autonomous System (AS) is an individual network with a unified internal routing policy. An AS can originate prefixes (say that they control a group of IP addresses), as well as transit prefixes (say they know how to reach specific groups of IP addresses). From A New York Times Article: “Computers convert websites such as facebook.com to numeric internet protocol addresses, through a system that is likened to a phone's address book. Facebook's issue was the equivalent of removing people's phone numbers from under their names in their address book, making it impossible to call them, he said. Because Cloudflare directs traffic to Facebook, it became aware of the outage early on and saw the incident's scope.” If the nameservers are unreachable or fail to respond because of some other reason, then a SERVFAIL is returned, and the browser issues an error to the user. Due to Facebook stopping announcing their DNS prefix routes through BGP, our and everyone else's DNS resolvers had no way to connect to their nameservers. Consequently, 1.1.1.1, 8.8.8.8, and other major public DNS resolvers started issuing (and caching) SERVFAIL responses. But that's not all. Now human behavior and application logic kicks in and causes another exponential effect. A tsunami of additional DNS traffic follows. This happened in part because apps won't accept an error for an answer and start retrying, sometimes aggressively, and in part because end-users also won't take an error for an answer and start reloading the pages, or killing and relaunching their apps, sometimes also aggressively. This in turn creates a traffic increase, which increases stress to the system, even when traffic is beginning to move again. traffic changed dramatically from 15:45 UTC to 16:45 UTC-- It stopped being available at around 15:50 UTC and returned at 21:20 UTC. What remains unclear is exactly why this happened. Early speculation was that it was not a cyber attack but a problem in Facebook's servers. At one point, a team was dispatched to a Santa Clara, Calif., data center to try a “manual reset” the servers, according to an internal memo. 3.5 Billion people use the sites around the world, including many for business and sales. A New York times article stoked fears that this instability could be a liability to the economy and health. Watch this story to see if this sort of thing becomes a talking point for those who want to socialize social media in the name of health and safety and economic stability. Of course people do make their livings off the internet and social media, but this is part of the risk that is built into the world. Truck drivers sometimes have flat tires, ships run into hurricanes, and farmers have poor rain fall. The answer is not more government regulation and bureaucracy. The answer is hard work, saving more than you spend, taking appropriate precautions, and trusting the God of the harvest. To look for a perfect solution where nothing bad ever happens is to look for a God, a religious solution that does not exist apart from the true God of Heaven. But for many, the state is the solution to every hardship because the state is their god and their religion. But clearly their god is impotent as he cannot apparently save us from anything. Maybe their god is in the bathroom. No seriously… Senator Sinema Harassed at ASU in a Lady's Room Play Audio Democratic Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema have been in the crosshairs of leftist activists over the last week as they have refused to go along with extremists in passing the 3.5 jumbo jet pork bill that wants the state all up in your business. So these extremists followed Sen. Sinema into a Lady's Room to protest her stance after she politely declined to answer their questions. Leftists Cheer Bullying of Senator Sinema & Twitter Shrugs https://jezebel.com/absolutely-bully-kyrsten-sinema-outside-of-her-bathroom/ Jezebel -- one extremist media outlet had this to say: “The effectiveness of certain kinds of protest will always be up for debate. From violent altercations to boycotts, sit-ins and marches, each method has some history of success and failure that differs among participants, observers, and the object of the protestors' scorn. So naturally, a group of activists pursuing Senator Kyrsten Sinema around the Arizona State University campus over the weekend and—controversially, somehow—briefly following Sinema into a public restroom to note that their family members were deported—is bound to prompt some pearl-clutching.” The article is titled “Absolutely Bully Sinema Outside Her Bathroom Stall.” Of course Twitter has done nothing about this article that defends bullying. Kirsten Powers replied on Twitter: “Which is worse: your grandparents being deported or being followed into a bathroom (bc you refused to stop and listen) by ppl desperate for your help? This is not a trick question.” Well, there's a difference between pursuing someone in leadership in desperation, and doing so to score political points and filming the whole thing and posting it on the internet. But I'm pretty sure if this were AOC or another member of the Squad, CNN would be hyperventilating on air right now talking about white supremacy and Trump. China Sends 52 Warplanes Over Taiwanese Airspace Monday https://dailycaller.com/2021/10/04/china-52-warplanes-taiwan-adiz-incursion/ China sent a record 52 military aircrafts into Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) Monday, making it the largest incursion since the self-governing island began publicly reporting such data in 2020. The aircrafts included 34 J-16, two Su-30 fighter jets, 12 nuclear-capable H-6 bombers, two Y-8 anti-submarine warplanes and two KJ-500 airborne control planes belonging to China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force, according to a statement from Taiwan's defense ministry. Taiwan issued radio warnings and deployed its air defense missile systems in response. The Chinese planes flew near the Pratas Island, an atoll in the South China Sea, located southwest of Taiwan and near the Chinese provinces of Fujian and Guangdong, accordingto a map of their flight paths shared by Taiwan's defense ministry. Chinese aircrafts made around 380 air incursions into Taiwan's ADIZ in 2020 alone, a Taiwanese defense official said in January. Beijing has become more assertive in its military posture, making more than 500 air incursions so far this year, DW reported. The previous record of Chinese military planes entering Taiwan's ADIZ was reportedSaturday night, when 39 aircraft flew into the zone. China flew 25 planes into the ADIZ on Oct. 1 in an apparent display of force coinciding with the country's National Day. Tensions between the two countries have worsened in recent months. Chinese air missions in Taiwanese airspace and near the Pratas Islands have become more frequent as a result. China claims Taiwan as its territory and defends its incursions into Taiwanese airspace as essential to protecting its own sovereignty. (RELATED: US Military Says Chinese Attack On Taiwan Accelerating As Taiwan Threatens War ‘To The Very Last Day') Chinese defense ministry spokesman Wu Qian warned in January that “Taiwan independence means war.” He also called China's military activities in the Taiwan Strait “necessary actions to safeguard national sovereignty and security.” Which is kind of like the accusation that even though I'm vaccinated, it does not work if you don't get vaccinated. https://www.facebook.com/aaron.rock.98/videos/576873593358102/ Play audio: 1:07-2:04 That's JP Sears with another great satirical video. Best and Worst States for Entrepreneurs “In this analysis, AdvisorSmith examined over 20 indicators of the health of the business environment in states across the nation using data from numerous sources, including the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Small Business Administration. Some of the factors we considered included personal and corporate tax policies, rates of business formation and hiring for new businesses, funding availability, and business survival rates. We ranked all 50 states and the District of Columbia based upon an aggregated score considering all these factors.” The Postal Service said it is changing estimated delivery times for first-class mail as part of it's 10-year strategic plan for improving service. https://www.krem.com/article/news/nation-world/usps-shipping-standards-change-october-1/417-79eb3fc6-9a5d-4f11-a2d7-28e2858317eb “The USPS is changing the standard on how fast you get your mail, with a slowdown that starts Oct. 1. The Postal Service is creating new service standards, which will mean longer first-class mail delivery times and cuts to post office hours. Starting Friday, first class mail may take as long as 5 days to reach destinations in the contiguous US. That's a change from the previous standard of 3 days. USPS said that standard led to an over-reliance on air travel, which is more costly that ground transportation. The Postal Service will increase time‐in‐transit expectations by 1 or 2 days for certain mail that needs to travel longer distances. If you're shipping something within 139 miles, you can expect it to take 2 days. For anything traveling up to 930 miles, expect 3-day shipping. Times go up to 4 or 5 days for anything over 930 miles traveled. Officials say most mail will be unaffected, but they recommend planning ahead and sending first class mail early, if it has to travel far distances.” Leave it to the government to define “improving service” as actually lowering standards of service. Fauci on Face the Nation: Can we gather for Christmas? Play Clip: Crazy Aussie Bureaucrat: Play Clip: Virus surge hits New England despite high vaccination rates https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-health-pandemics-vermont-d25aae90b2dda65b3d1c2c0d5d00156c?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=AP&utm_campaign=SocialFlow “Despite having the highest vaccination rates in the country, there are constant reminders for most New England states of just how vicious the delta variant of COVID-19 is. Hospitals across the region are seeing full intensive care units and staff shortages are starting to affect care. Public officials are pleading with the unvaccinated to get the shots. Health care workers are coping with pent-up demand for other kinds of care that had been delayed by the pandemic. “I think it's clearly frustrating for all of us,” said Michael Pieciak, the commissioner of the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation who monitors COVID-19 statistics for the state. “We want kids to be safe in school, we want parents not to have to worry about their child's education and health.” Even though parts of New England are seeing record case counts, hospitalizations and deaths that rival pre-vaccine peaks, largely among the unvaccinated, the region hasn't seen the impact the delta variant wave has wrought on other parts of the country. According to statistics from The Associated Press, the five states with the highest percentage of a fully vaccinated population are all in New England, with Vermont leading, followed by Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. New Hampshire is 10th. According to the AP data, full vaccination rates across the six New England states range from a high of 69.4% in Vermont to 61.5% in New Hampshire. Despite the relatively high vaccination rates — the U.S. as a whole is averaging 55.5% — there are still hundreds of thousands of people across the region who, for one reason or another, remain unvaccinated and vulnerable to infection. Now, a Rhode Island official said he didn't think the 70% vaccination goal, once touted as the level that would help end the pandemic in the state, is enough. “What we've learned with delta and looking beyond delta, is because that's where our focus is as well, to really reach those levels of vaccination, to give you that true population level protection, you need to be in excess of 90%,” said Tom McCarthy, the executive director of the Rhode Island Department of Health COVID Response Unit.” Note what the AP article goes on to say: “Head of UMass Memorial Health, the largest health system in central Massachusetts, said recently that regional hospitals were seeing nearly 20 times more COVID-19 patients than in June and there isn't an ICU bed to spare. Case counts in Vermont, which has continually boasted about high vaccination and low hospitalization and death rates, are the highest during the pandemic. Hospitalizations are approaching the pandemic peak from last winter and September was Vermont's second-deadliest month during the pandemic. On Sept. 22, Maine had nearly 90 people in intensive care units, a pandemic peak for the state. Maine also recently passed 1,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic.” Closing This is Gabriel Rench with Crosspolitic News.
