He is the author of the best-selling Catholic book The Priests We Need to Save the Church (Sophia, 2019) and Burst, A Story of God's Grace When Life Falls Apart (Servant). His most recent best-selling book, Priest and Begger, tells the story of the heroic life of Venerable Aloysius Schwartz, a priest from Washington DC who went on to serve the poor in South Korea. Within 15 years, Father Schwartz had changed the course of Korean history, founding and reforming orphanages, hospitals, hospices, clinics, schools, and the Sisters of Mary, a Korean religious order dedicated to the sickest of the sick and the poorest of the poor. All the while, he himself—like the Sisters—lived the same hard poverty as the people he served and loved.Wells is currently the president of the Monsignor Thomas Wells Society for Vocations. He also serves a Director of Public Relations for World Villages of Children, which supports the works of Fr. Al Schwartz. Unlike your kids or your dogs, when you call them, they come! I am talking about the 1000+ men and women who make up the Anne Arundel County Fire Department! Sure, the department is an arm of the County Government, but the IAFF Local 1563 is the Union that collectively bargains for their pay and benefits, makes sure that they are staffed safely, and they are getting the support they need. After all, they see some pretty horrid things in the course of their duty! Today, we speak with Joe Addivinola, the long-time President of IAFF Local 1563, to see how the union plays a role. And, it is a lot larger than I imagined! From literacy campaigns to coat drives, our Firefighters, EMTs, and Paramedics go all out for the community when they are not working that 24 on 3 off shift! Did you know that the Union owns a four-story building in Millersville? Did you know there is a huge banquet room that can be rented out? Did you know they are a nonprofit, and you can donate directly to support their work? Me either! Joe even lets us know his thoughts about Anne Arundel County Executive Pittman! This was a VERY enlightening conversation and some insight into the men and women who put the wet stuff on the red stuff! Have a listen! During the Paris Olympics, Algerian boxer Imane Khelif faced difficulty when she tested higher for testosterone in her system. Dr. Frederika Schmitt Associate Professor of Sociology at Millersville university says the word sex is a noun. “ Well, first, when we talk about sex, the noun is and we're talking about sex assigned at birth. That is, a term that we use to refer to one's, physiological makeup, one's physical makeup, such as one's, reproductive organs, hormones, chromosomal makeup. And we typically refer to these groups as female, male and intersex.” She also says there is some variability with groups as female, male, and intersex when it comes to different levels of hormones. “Females have different levels of, testosterone, naturally occurring testosterone in their bodies throughout their lives and different levels of estrogen and progesterone, in their bodies throughout their lives. That is naturally occurring. And additionally, in rare cases, women have, XY chromosomal makeup that we typically associate with men. Some women have that chromosomal makeup. And I think that was part of the issue, in the, with some of the Olympic boxers that are under scrutiny.”        Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ethan Poetic '20 was born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, and moved to Lancaster in the middle of his eighth-grade year. On March 19, 2011, he was seriously injured when a tractor-trailer collided with his vehicle on Lincoln Highway East (Route 30) in Paradise Township in Lancaster County. This moment put his life on pause and forced him to fight a ruptured aorta, internal bleeding, a concussion, a fractured collarbone and a sprained wrist. The accident would also cause a delay in Poetic's pursuit of higher education as his health became his main priority. After a long road of recovery, Poetic was offered a job at the School District of Lancaster after-school sports program and was accepted as a student at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC). He then went on to attend Millersville University because of their communications department, affordable tuition, safe campus, and for the flexibility that allowed him to work two jobs while taking classes. Poetic was welcomed with open arms at Millersville after transferring from HACC. He got along with the students, staff, professors and public safety personnel. The library became an incredibly useful resource, providing him with access to technology. Poetic's math and writing tutors helped shape his academic career for the better. Although he longed to be more involved on campus, his financial responsibilities took precedence. Poetic graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelor of Science degree in speech communications, with a minor in broadcasting and media. He also holds an associate degree from HACC. Poetic is the only member of his family to graduate twice with a post-secondary degree. He is proud to have been featured on the front page of the LNP Lancaster Newspaper in April of 2021 and on WGAL as an inspirational story in May of 2021. He states that all of his college professors made a positive impact on his life. Specifically, Dr. Theresa Russell-Loretz left an immensely positive influence on Poetic by presenting him with the Department Chair's Special Recognition Award for overcoming adversities and challenges. Poetic says that Millersville University helped him grow as a man and as a leader. “Being around other college students and professors allowed me to see certain areas I needed help with, such as seeking help from both writing and math tutors,” he says. Resources at Millersville helped Poetic to successfully complete two television internships at Lancaster Community TV Channel 66 (LCTV 66). Currently, Poetic is a tutor for Substitute Teacher Services and is in the process of starting his own business of Ethan A. Hundreds of people have gathered to remember the former fire chief shot and killed at a weekend rally for former President Donald Trump in western Pennsylvania. When Comperatore was shot, a retired doctor from DuBois climbed over other people to get to him. Doctor Jim Sweetland shares his experience. Four days after a gunman's attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump in western Pennsylvania, the public is still in the dark over the extent of his injuries.     Pennsylvania is getting a half billion dollars in federal money to help replace the busy Interstate 83 bridge into Harrisburg. More money for education and transit are in the recently-passed 47 billion dollar budget. But, funding for home repairs did not make it into the plan. Tuition is holding steady once again at the 10 universities that make  up the State System of Higher Education. They include the Bloomsburg, Kutztown, Millersville and Shippensburg campuses. A power outage has forced the York County SPCA to seek emergency foster homes for animals housed at its shelter -- while dealing with high temperatures and humidity.    Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Mmm — Do you sense a certain “earthiness” in the air today? Why yes, that's David Waldman and Greg Dworkin with today's KITM Earth Day Special! I regret the error. In last Friday's summary I had stated that since the release of the Congressional FART team, all of the good fart jokes had now been written. As you KITM listeners know however, no matter what, Donald Trump always seems to have something cooking. I had discounted that Donald would never breathe easy… until no one can. TFFG earns yet another F.  So much for it being a “hush” trial… I can't stop! Well, pretty soon we'll all be talking about how Trump's old pal Pecker is letting him down with embarrassing leaks. Much better! Yep, that sound you hear is Trump deflating. Donald shakes his tiny fist and demands his followers avenge him. Trump's MAGA are however turning micro, and his own family has better things to do. Donald Trump's lack of popularity is somehow making him… less popular. It's looking like it will be another good week for America and President Joe Biden. The Senate voted to dismiss the House's stunt impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Congress... no actually, Mike Johnson... no actually, Donald Trump voted for Ukraine aid… No, actually there is no Gop Congress anymore. While Mike Johnson and Marjorie Taylor Greene were out back measuring to see whose Crucifix was larger, Hakeem Jeffries quietly took control of what civility that was left. The winner of this Congress is Joe Biden. Joe's getting his mojo back. Hopefully his Joementum will dislodge Trump from his Supreme Court. Today's January 6 FAFO winner: Scott Miller of Millersville. EU parliamentary elections are upcoming in France, so it's recieving the majority of Russian disinformation this week.

Las Vegas is on everyone's mind who follows the world of Division I wrestling and that also means me. There's a bunch of Vegas-related content in the newsletter today, so again, you can find out how to get that daily at the end of the show. I was on the mic Thursday here in the Twin Cities - more on that in a bit, this is Short Time Shots, a look at the day's results in and around college wrestling. Right now, if you hear any banging around, it's because I'm getting a new furnace installed this morning. Yup. Thankfully before it his absolute zero here this winter. Our installer used to wrestle, too. Links: Did you know you can find all the D1 dual meet scores and links to their results at collegewrestlingscoreboard.com AND I've added another redirect to help you follow all the tournaments from every division at collegewrestlingtournaments.com. As to the aforementioned Minnesota match, Division III's top-ranked team, Augsburg, blanked No. 25 Loras 46-0 at Si Melby Hall. Augsburg won four matchups between ranked wrestlers, including returning national champion Sam Stuhl earning an 11-2 major decision over No. 13 Jalen Schropp at 141 pounds. Top-ranked heavyweight Tyler Kim and 184-pounder Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann picked big bonus victories - Kim with the fall and BSO (his name is too long to keep repeating) with the tech. Other scores around Division III saw Carthage beat Elmhurst 29-15, and Central, that's it, just Central, pushed past Augustana (Ill.) 36-9. UW-Stevens Point trounced UW-Oshkoh (B'Gosh) 40-18. Augustana did beat Simpson (Iowa) The only Division I match of the night featured a pair of transitional programs as Bellarmine heads out to Missouri and beat Lindenwood 35-7. There were some exciting duals in Division II, including Kutztown winning the last five bouts to pull away past Seton Hill 34-15. Both of Kutztown's ranked wrestlers - No. 11 Dalton Gimbor at 165 and third-ranked Matthew Weinberg at 184 - won. Gimbor beat Kane Kettering while Weinberg picked up a forfeit. I hate forfeit. Millersville beat East Stroudsburg 23-19. Colorado School of Mines won the last six weights to top New Mexico Highlands 31-13. Colorado Mesa beat rival Western Colorado 24-17. Davenport beat NAIA Cleary 37-12. Down south, Coker blanked Bluefield State (that's in West Virginia), while Belmont Abbey beat Emory & Henry 48-3. Emory & Henry is transitioning from Division III to Division II. In the NAIA, Ottawa beat Avila 35-13. On the women's side, Grand View beat Central Methodist 27-18, Cedar Crest beat Alvernia 32-16 in the school's first ever home women's wrestling dual. Sioux Falls new women's program improved to 2-0 with a win over Minot State 39-13 and Lock Haven beat Elmira 35-12. Subscribe, for free, to my Daily Wrestling News.
