A podcast dedicated to all the stuff you love - movies, television, comics, and really anything else considered "geeky." But really probably mostly talking TV and movies. And every year we do "Fans Not Experts Movie Month"
Greetings from the third dimension and welcome back to JAWGUST everybody....Like last year (and next year) I am only doing ONE day of Jawgust for these sub-par (to terrible) sequels. Anything more than that would be disrespectful to the classic original. Today I watched the not all-together bad (nor original) idea, but terribly executed, JAWS 3-D....in 2-D.
And here we are once again - the end of another month-long celebration of movies. Some great. Some okay. Some Eternals. But for this final entry in year 9 - and movie 270 all-time, I wanted to go out on a biggie....And a longie.
I have a feeling if I told these guys that I was watching their movie on hump day, they would be quite pleased. Also, I feel like it would be irresponsible of me to not use the word "bunghole" once in this post. And there it is.
Happy Tuesday movie nerds! Today I watched the latest Guillermo del Toro movie on HBO Max, and after a couple days of movies I was not too high on, it was great to be back to something I can say I really enjoyed. Listen on if you've seen it (it's on HBO Max) but download either way so I look big and important.
Today's movie is another one recommended by my buddy Chris. Jason Statham AND Guy Ritchie? What's not to love!? I think I will actually answer that question in this episode...
This movie - was...not was I was expecting. I'm not sure if that was a good thing or not. I'm not even fully sure what to think about this movie. Listen if you've seen it or don't mind being spoiled - or you can watch it for free now on the Roku Channel right now even if you don't have a Roku.
Happy Saturday best friends! Today I FINALLY watched the 2020 Chris Hemsworth action motion picture, Extraction - from the studio that brought you The Floor is Lava! I really REALLY enjoyed this movie - but don't just take my written word for it. Go and listen now. Then meet me back here after. Wherever here is...
Last year I started the Insidious franchise, and I have to tell you I kinda have a guilty spot in my heart for these James Wan/Leigh Whannell horror series. This wasn't anything special, or anything all that original (of course that is rare for a 3rd part in a franchise) but it was effective and enjoyable for the folks who enjoy this franchise. And it's free to stream on Tubi.
Okay, so I lied. I thought I was more than likely done with superheroes and with Marvel movies, but then out of nowhere I looked on Disney Plus and saw that this movie was already available after debuting in theaters about a month and a half ago. Well, it was out of nowhere to me. I had no idea it was coming this quickly. And of course as I talk about this movie - be warned of spoilers. If you haven't seen it yet and you care about spoilers, don't listen. Download still obviously - but then go watch the movie and come back and listen. I'll wait for you....
Month. Movie Month. This is by far the latest I've finished a movie month day this year - but that's what happens when you watch such a long movie and start it so late! Today I went on another action adventure romp, but this time with better acting, better action, and way better effects. I liked it. I hope you watched it already, because I definitely spoil things....
I realized today that this isn't the last Ryan Reynolds movie I have on my list this year. It might be the last one I watch - the third one this movie month - but then again it might not be...It was pretty much exactly what I thought it would be - and I'm okay with that.
Shhhh! You have to be very very quiet if you want to survive this podcast. Today (I'm typing this as if I'm whispering) I watched a pretty good sequel to a really good movie. I shouldn't say too much else, or otherwise I may draw too much attention - not that "too much attention" has ever been an issue for this podcast....
Happy Saturday fellow good looking people! Today I watched a prequel to the Kingsman movies that is simply called "The King's Man." I did not like it as much as the original 2 Kingsman movies, mainly because it was not as good as those movies - BUT - I still found that there was stuff in there to enjoy. So I enjoyed that stuff.
Sometimes a movie comes along that just hits you in the right spot perfectly, and today was one of those movies. A very small western with great characters, great acting, and some moments that left my jaw hanging right open. Well one moment for sure. If you are into these types of movies I highly recommend it it. Listen only if you watched because there will be spoilers.
Happy Thursday movie nerds! Today was a lighthearted fun romp, and my second (and still possibly not last) Ryan Reynolds movie of the month. And his second movie directed by Shawn Levy. Watched it early today so I can (hopefully) enjoy the Celtics tonight. If you don't follow basketball, you'll probably realize how they do tonight by my mood tomorrow....But until then - enjoy this movie. I did.
We're here! We're at the halfway point of year 9 of Movie Month already! Today I watched a Nicolas Cage movie that was NOT exactly what I was expecting - and that is in no way a complaint. Another rare, small, not-a-franchise movie today - with some fantastic performances.
I must say - I thoroughly enjoyed today's movie. I thought it made fun of how the world in this country is today, but also made me think - yeah there's a good chance that's how the world really would react. What made this movie more fun is that part of it was filmed in Massachusetts at the beach I take my dog to in the Fall and Winter. I went down there when I knew they were filming, and although it was after the fact there were still some remnants of the production. There were these huge tents that I assume they used for the cast and crew, and then there some things I saw that made it on camera. I this scene, where people are watching a rocket launch....Well that was all digitally added - but the countdown clock screen was very real... And with all the reports and news vans there - you get a glimpse of one on camera. That was one of three prop news vans I saw there that day. Cast wise it looks like it was mostly extras - but maybe some of the actors who spoke were actually there, but it looked like a lot of work went into something that was only on screen for a couple minutes. Makes you realize just how much goes into movies. And again this movie - I really liked....#JustLookUp
Welcome back movie nerds! It's a new week and a new day of movie month. I wonder if I should start a new tradition of watching a horror movie on the 13th day of every month. I may have accidentally done so it the past - and this is probably more of a dark comedy than a horror movie - so maybe...maybe I'll start a new tradition of doing a horror movie OR a horror comedy on the 13th of every month. Or maybe I'll forget and this will be the last time you hear about it - either way I really enjoyed today's movie...
Oh cool, another franchise. I knew I was going to watch this movie sometime this month, but it wasn't until this morning that I decided today would be the day. I love the first Matrix. I've seen the two sequels... This falls somewhere in between for me. I think it's probably the best sequel even though there were moments I was had no idea why things were happening, nor did I care enough to stop and try to figure them out. I just came along for the ride, which sometimes is good enough for me.
Finally. Really, what else is there to say? Finally I saw this movie. Am I the last comic book and comic book movie fan on Earth to see "Spider-Man: No Way Home?" It is quite possible. Was it worth the wait? Hell, that is quite probable....but why not listen to find out for sure...
My dog woke me up at 5:15am this morning. So while I was awake I thought - let's watch today's movie. I wasn't sure exactly what I was going to watch, but looking at my list of potentials I thought - this one should be an easy one to get through this early. And it pretty much was. Sure there were a lot of eye-rolling moments, but I admit M. Night Shyamalan movies are a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, even the more recent ones. In fact, this is the fifth Shyamalan movie that he's either directed or written that I've covered for Movie Month (including the first movie month movie ever). And I have to admit, I enjoy them all, and I enjoyed this movie - even though I know what I'm watching is not that great - there are still some fun/creepy moments to watch in between eye-rolls.
What is this? A movie not based on a book? Not based on a comic? Not part of a franchise? Not a remake? A reboot? A reebok sneaker? Today I watched the Netflix film, The Adam Project. A fun action/adventure family-friendly movie revolving around time travel. Gee, I wonder if I liked it...
Happy Wednesday Geeks! Did you know that today's movie was not nominated for any Academy or Critics Choice Awards? However it was nominated both for "Favorite Movie" by People's Choice Awards and, more impressively, it was nominated for "Worst Film of the Year" by the Hawaii Film Critics Society. It lost out to Space Jam: A New Legacy. While this movie is not high art, it's not the worst movie I've seen (I'm talking about in these last 8 days even). It knows what it is and it tried to have some fun with it.
For six days I've yet to watch a movie that isn't part of some sort of franchise - and the tradition continues with the 2022 Scream. It was okay - better than Scream 4 - but most movies are....
Eternals. That seems like a fitting title for a movie that just kept going and going and going. I didn't hate this movie, but I far from loved it. It was.....it just - was. Going in, this was the Marvel movie I was looking forward to the least and in that sense it did not disappoint. That being said, there was stuff I enjoyed in it. What exactly? Well you'll have to listen to find out.
It's Sunday Funday fellow Earthlings! Today I watched the most recent moving picture in the Harry Potter universe - the one not many people like or saw in the theater. There's some stuff I did like about it and stuff I didn't - and I talk about it in my backyard again. WHAT A PODCAST!
It's Saturday! It's Day 4 - and it's Marvel Again! Today I watched the quite enjoyable action-adventure comic book romp, "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings." And right now as I am typing this my dog is at the door - so I am going to go take her out. I hope you enjoy my thoughts on this fun movie.
It's FRIDAY! I'm in a good mood because the weekend is here, the Celtics won last night, and I finally watched the new Ghostbusters movie that had me smiling pretty much the entire time. I mean, did you really think I was NOT going to like it?
It's Thursday! It's Day 2! And I am finally getting back into the Marvel swing of things. Tonight I watched Black Widow and almost got the entire podcast recorded before my friend showed up to watch the Celtics game and almost ruin this wonderful show. Almost - I'm too professional to let that happen.
Wait, it's June again already??? Boy did that go by fast! I can't believe it's already year 9 of Movie Month! This year, I am ready to watch 30 more movies (Movies 241-270) in 30 days - and then talk about it right here to all your smart, good looking people with amazing taste in podcasts. Let's kick off the year going back to a world that some say is furious. Some say is fast. Some say is dumb. Some say is silly. I say - can't it be all of the above!?
We did it! 31 days of Marchy McFly 2 comes to an end with the 31st and final watching of "Back to the Future Part II" and this the 31st and final podcast episode. I saved the biggest for last as I do my best to retell the movie, scene-by-scene, with nothing but my memory. Did I get everything correct - I seriously doubt it. Do I care that much - I seriously do not! It's not about being perfect - it's about having fun and enjoying this movie, which I definitely did even with all my critiques. And while one chapter of Marchy McFly comes to an end - remember there are only eleven months until we get to do it all over again, and I sure as hell cannot wait!
The final day before the final day is upon us! Day 30! I can't believe it's already here. Today, I pretty much finish up any notes I had left and talk about what I plan doing tomorrow for the big finale of year two. Oh, today I finally saw the razors Biff obviously uses for his cocaine addiction. One more time, tomorrow!
It's the final Tuesday of Marchy McFly and just like the title states - there is only one man who can help me! Tonight that man is my long-time friend and former guest on the show, Jason! This is the man that helped change my perspective on Crispin Glover, and a man who makes a shocking discovery about one of the major characters of this movie IN REAL TIME while recording the podcast - so If you don't listen to this I'll never forgive you...
This is the final Monday of Marchy McFly 2! There shall be no more McFly Mondays! I can't believe we're almost done! Today I feature part of a behind the scenes video I found, and also talk about a SyFy video called "7 Things From Back to the Future II That Actually Happened" which is hardly close to what the video actually is. I was so disappointed that I didn't include any audio from it - I just talked about it. Oh, and I almost forgot - I tried to make a 32 year old sitcom theme song mesh with this 33 year old movie and still have it someone relevant to recent events (or dare I say FRESH?). See you tomorrow!
It's Sunday! The Final Sunday of Marchy McFly!!! Today I watched the movie right after grocery shopping - and then talked about it a little while later. I go through some notes and - well to be honest it's been about 10 hours since I recorded and I don't remember exactly what I did. Hooray for me! See you tomorrow.
Happy Saturday, Buttheads! Today, I go through a few notes and realize as I'm recording who the richest man in Hill Valley is in 2015. I also talk about an IMDB Goof that I brought to "Goof Court" (a term I just made up that no one uses). Listen to hear the outcome (or spoil yourself and look at the screenshot below). And since it's the weekend, I recorded another song - this one (slightly) paying homage to drummer Taylor Hawkins, who recently passed away, while still being on brand for this here podcast. Until tomorrow, loyal listener... MY IMDB CONTRIBUTION (Or Challenge of Someone Else's Contribution really)
It's Friday!! The last Friday of Marchy McFly 2 - wow how time flies by like a DeLorean stolen by an elderly bully...Today I focus mostly on the "Back to The Future Day" craze that pop culture jumped on back on October 21, 2015. I go through a fun CNET article that "reviews" the technology of 2015, and play clips from when ABC played tribute to the day on their prime-time shows, did a feature on a custom DeLorean maker on Nightline, and (maybe once again, forget if I did it last year) play some audio from when Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd showed up (in character) on Kimmel. Listen to that ovation they get! See you tomorrow Future (and past and present) Nerds!
Happy Thursday, Slackers! Today I am joined by former guest of the podcast, Eric. He first joined me during JAWGUST, made a triumphant return in last year's Marchy McFly, and most recently came on to talk Taxi during Sitcom All Ye Faithful. For this one, we hang out for a while, laugh a lot, and even talk about "Back to the Future Part II" a little. See ya'll tomorrow!
Happy Wednesday Buttheads! Today I go over some of the awards "Back to the Future Part II" was nominated for - and a few it won. I also go through some of the "goofs" listed on IMDB. Then I discuss a tweet and an article I found about a very unique automobile that was featured in 2015 Hill Valley. Until tomorrow my friends....
Happy Tuesday all you Martians out there. Hmm, that one wasn't all that bad. Anywho, today I mostly talk about some notes I took, including the chalkboard in Doc's garage and a Diet Pepsi bottle in the Cafe 80's. And I try to figure something out with the help of some audio wizardry....Until tomorrow!!!
Happy Monday all you "Doc Until You Droppers" out there. That may be my worst one yet. Anywho, today I focus mostly on that crazy, scary version of Hill Valley we get in the alternate 1985 (code name: 1985A). I go through the scene talking everything I see (mostly sex stuff) and touch a little bit on that great "Biff Tannen Museum" welcome video. See you tomorrow!
Happy Sunday you Future-holics. I wanted to focus today's episode on George McFly. After being such a major part of the first film, the character was barely used in this sequel, and we all know why. With Crispin Glover deciding not to participate in the sequels, producers turned to fairly unknown actor named Jeffrey Weissman to fill the penny loafers of Marty McFly's dad in the few scenes he was in. And yet - we still see Crispin Glover in this movie! This episode features the audio of a February 2021 interview with Crispin Glover from the Jon Interviews youtube channel and a February 2020 video featuring Jeffrey Weissman from the NJ Horror Con and Film Festival youtube channel. I found the photo for this episode on this Retro Lady Land blog post.
Happy Saturday my Marcherinos. Today I talk about some deleted scenes from the film "Back to The Future Part II" which I happened to watch for the nineteenth time in nineteen days. I also got a voicemail that I wasn't to happy about making some pretty big demands...
Happy Friday everybody! Today I watched "Back to the Future Part II" completely before work this morning. Then over 12 hours later I sat down to talk about it (after a fun night out with my wife, niece, and nephew). I wanted to focus mostly on some 1985A today - but I wrote this at 2pm - so I wonder if I end up doing just that....We'll find out in the future. Or the past.
Happy St. Patrick's Day everybody! And while we did enjoy a boiled dinner tonight and I had a nice Irish stout during a Zoom happy hour with work (I finished the entire can!), I also took the time today to watch a little movie called "Back to the Future Part II" while also trying to avoid this frightening leprechaun that has somehow become a family heirloom...for real.
Today I watched a little movie called, Back to the Future Part II. And then I made this amazing podcast about it where I pretty much just start reading through the IMDB Trivia page. Has it come to that already?
Today's episode was a lot of fun because I recorded it remotely whilst first driving to get a haircut and then later while walking my dog. You can hear my dog get into something gross as it happens and my all-too-real reaction to it. Plus we talk Back to the Future Part 2! Happy Tuesday World!
Happy Monday everybody. Fourteen days in and...sixteen days to go. I did math!!! Today I went over more notes and then found a post that I read hoping it would be better than it really was. Until tomorrow!
Today I focus on one aspect of this movie - the one that I think, no I know, I dislike the most. I am going to give you zero guesses on what that aspect is, because I am sure it will come as no surprise...
Today I thought would be a short show. I talked a little about Wild Gunman video game and the 1974 game it was based on. I mentioned this video - but this video show better how the 74 game really was. I also went over a few notes before doing a deep dive on full movie cast list on IMDB. Turns out this this my longest episode of the year! Caffeine is a wonderful drug.
