“Juicy action in the future” The panel of peril do what no other man has done before them and hoverboard over a small body of water, thereby proving themselves Best At Hoverboarding. To celebrate, they watch a film which fails to portray such a successful act, Back To The Future Part II (Robert Zemeckis, 1989) with this week's guest Darin Lundberg of NostalgiaCast. Happy Christmas! Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) has been dragged back to the far flung future of 2015 by wild-haired oldster Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) to unintentionally cause chaos in the past! Whilst trying to prevent his own teenage son from making a bad deal, old enemy Biff Tannen (Tom Wilson) scarpers back to 1955 with a certain book that will make life misery for the McFlys. Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdENmefJRpw ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** That's right, old man Biff has taken a Sports Alamanac, with 50 years of big-time sports results, and given it to young Biff back in the 50s. Swiftly accruing a fortune from successful wagers, Biff dominates Hill Valley with his lurid casino and band of ne'er-do-wells destroying both the town and the lives of the McFly family. Can this chaos be unravelled and the timeline restored? Did the panel enjoy this week's televisual/cinematic serving? Could they find a way to improve the Biff's villainous plan? And who will be named this week's most diabolical (person/podcast((er)))? Step into the DeLorean with hosts Krissy Lenz and Nathan Blackwell as they revisit the mind-bending 1989 sequel Back to the Future Part II. This zany time-traveling adventure pushes Marty McFly and Doc Brown to their limits as they navigate multiple timelines, alternate realities, and a dystopian version of Hill Valley ruled by the villainous Biff Tannen. The hosts dive deep into how Back to the Future Part II differs from its predecessor, noting its darker tone and more complex narrative structure. They explore how the film effectively splits into three distinct sections: the retro-futuristic 2015 sequence, the nightmarish alternate 1985, and the return to 1955 that cleverly interweaves with events from the first film. Nathan shares his initial disappointment with the sequel upon its 1989 release, while Krissy maintains her longtime love for its imaginative storytelling.Special praise is given to the performances, particularly Thomas F. Wilson's versatility in playing multiple versions of Biff Tannen and Lea Thompson's range as various incarnations of Lorraine. The hosts also discuss how the film introduced many viewers to concepts like the multiverse and alternate timelines through Doc Brown's simple yet effective explanation of the space-time continuum.Other topics covered:The film's prescient portrayal of Biff as a Trump-like figure in the alternate 1985The extensive merchandising campaign, including Pizza Hut's promotional sunglassesChristopher Lloyd's ageless performance as Doc BrownHow the film serves as part one of a larger story concluding in Back to the Future Part IIIThe practical effects and set design used to transform Hill Valley across different time periodsThe controversial addition of Marty's "chicken" character flawThe enduring appeal of the film's retro-futuristic 2015 aestheticThe Universal Studios clock tower set and its various iterationsWhile rating the film, Nathan gives it a 7.5 out of 10 sports almanacs, noting how his appreciation has grown over time, while Krissy awards it a solid 9, placing it just below the perfect 10s she gives to parts one and three. The hosts conclude that while Part II may be the most divisive entry in the trilogy, its ambitious storytelling and creative world-building have helped it age into a unique and essential chapter in the Back to the Future saga. --We couldn't do this without your support of The Most Excellent 80s Movies Podcast! Welcome to Episode 115 of The Filmumentaries Podcast. This time I'm talking to John Bell, a concept artist and art director whose career has spanned some of the most memorable films of the last four decades. From Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home to Jurassic Park and Back to the Future II and III,John's work has left a significant mark on cinema. In our conversation, John takes us back to the early days of his career, when he transitioned from designing cars at General Motors to creating video game concepts at Atari, before finally finding his way into the film industry. He shares the story of how a speculative portfolio sent to ILM eventually opened the door to a career that included working alongside legends like Nilo Rodis-Jamero and Ken Ralston. We talk in depth about his work on Back to the Future II, where he imagined a future Hill Valley steeped in a mix of Americana and 1980s aesthetics, and Jurassic Park, where he brought bold, colorful designs to vehicles, props, and even the park's iconic branding. John also reflects on how collaboration is at the heart of filmmaking, with directors like Steven Spielberg and production designers like Rick Carter encouraging his input while shaping the look and feel of these projects. We also cover his time working on Antz at DreamWorks, where he stepped into the role of production designer for the first time, and Rango, ILM's first animated feature.Throughout, John shares his approach to balancing creativity and problem-solving, and the importance of pulling inspiration from both his surroundings and his past experiences. It's a wide-ranging discussion that touches on everything from the challenges of designing for science fiction, fantasy, and animation to how the industry has changed over the years. I hope you enjoy it.All the links

It's partly responsible for the creation of the PG-13 rating.Truth be told, it's Steven Spielberg who is really responsible for the introduction of the PG-13 rating. Both Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which he directed, and Gremlins, which he executive produced, were rated PG upon their release, and subsequently criticized for not being kid-appropriate. To avoid being slapped with an R rating in the future, Spielberg suggested that the MPAA add a rating between PG and R. On August 10, 1984, Red Dawn became the first movie to be released with the new PG-13 rating. 2. Howie Mandel is the voice of Gizmo. It was the suggestion of voice actor Frank Welker, who voiced Stripe in Gremlins (and Fred on Scooby-Doo before that), that Howie Mandel be hired for the role. Phoebe Cates was a controversial casting choice.Given her sweet demeanor as Kate, it's hard to imagine that not everyone was on board with casting Cates. But her infamous topless scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High gave the studio pause about putting her in the lead. Kingston Falls and Hill Valley are one and the same.If the fictional town of Kingston Falls in Gremlins looks familiar, that's because it was filmed on the same set used for the town of Hill Valley in Back to the Future, which wasreleased a year later. At one point, Gizmo and Stripe were supposed to be the same creature. It was also at Spielberg's suggestion that Gizmo's role in the film grew. Originally, it's the cute little Mogwai pet himself who transforms into Stripe the Gremlin. But Spielberg knew that audiences would want to see as much of Gizmo as possible, so he withdrew the idea so that they would appear as totally separate characters. **TRIPLE LINDY AWARD** **REVIEW AND RATING**Trey 3Chris 1.5Stephen 2.5Tucker 2 TOP 5Stephen:1 Breakfast club2 Saving Private Ryan3 Ghostbusters4 Sandlot5 Color out of space Chris:1. sandlots2. Ahoy Motherfuckers! There wasn't supposed to be a sequel to Back to the Future, and when the sequel was made, it wasn't supposed to be set in the future. It also wasn't supposed to do anything more than to set up the third movie in the trilogy, which was already made when the sequel came out. The movie is beloved, not because of the storyline, per se but because of the scientific advancements that the storyline provided to future time-traveling movies. The rules that they created in Hill Valley still resound loudly 33 years later. We are joined by Cee Brandon and we discuss just how important this movie truly is. Enjoy. In Edible-Alpha® podcast #115, Andy talks with Ron Henningfeld, founder and cheesemaker at Hill Valley Dairy in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Sourcing milk from his family's small dairy farm nearby, the company sells a wide variety of artisan cheeses at local shops, farmers markets, and restaurants and recently opened its own downtown storefront. Ron loved growing up on Romari Farms and wanted to stay involved in some capacity. He studied ag education and biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he began dabbling in cheesemaking, but only as a hobby. After teaching high school for a few years, he decided to pursue his passion, hoping cheesemaking would someday lead him back to the family farm, now owned by his oldest brother. But first Ron had to hone his craft. He apprenticed at UW's Babcock Hall, then took a job at a creamery, and then helped open Clock Shadow Creamery in Milwaukee in 2012. These experiences taught him the art, science, and nuances of cheesemaking and helped him broaden his skillset. Eventually, Ron felt ready to strike out on his own. In 2016, he and wife Josie launched Hill Valley Dairy, with Ron as the cheesemaker and Josie in charge of marketing. By renting production space from Clock Shadow, their operating costs were quite low, allowing them to self-finance the business. They also started small, making 50 to 100 pounds of cheese every few weeks to sell at two farmers markets. Hill Valley Dairy stayed hyperlocal for the first few years, building a following with delicious staples like cheddar, gouda, and cheese curds. But as they gained more traction and demand, they added more wholesale accounts and launched unique artisan varieties, including two prizewinning cave-aged hard cheeses, Luna and Alina. Today, Ron produces 500 pounds of cheese a week, using almost 20% of the milk his family's farm produces. Still renting space from Clock Shadow, he takes a truckload of milk to the creamery each week, makes cheese, then hauls it back to the farm to age, cut, package, and distribute. The couple's two young daughters love helping out, making Hill Valley Dairy a true family business. Earlier this year, Ron and Josie opened Hill Valley Cheese Shop in downtown Lake Geneva, a bustling tourist town between Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago. They sell their own products, of course, plus cheeses from other local artisans, and soon they'll add a cheese bar to make it more experiential. Now with more overhead and infrastructure, Ron and Josie have brought in outside capital and financing. They received a value-added producer grant (VAPG) in 2018, which they qualified for because his farmer brother owns a small part of Hill Valley Dairy. This past winter, they scored a Wisconsin Department of Agriculture grant to do a feasibility study on building their own creamery. Most recently, they opened a line of credit with a local bank to help buy equipment and build up their brick-and-mortar space. Tune in to get the full scoop on this growing Wisconsin food business's inspiring trajectory!

Drop your socks and head to Hill Valley. It's back to the future on Cadillac Jack: My Second Act. Somebody told Kane Brown you can only host CMT Awards two years in a row. We are… not going to correct him. (Because he's too calming.) Regardless, we do want to know how much of Monday's show was pre-recorded. Spoiler alert: it's probably more than we all expect. Then Donna talks about how to handle turbulence, whether it's on a plane or in a family. It's a serious, sentimental segment. So naturally, we go straight from there into why one pod peep "is 99% sure she saw the beaver." The show ends with an interview that you may have heard before. Or at least, you may recognize the voices. Watch for the changes and try to keep up. Then write your own plinko and send it our way. 7704646024.

Enjoy Movies! Back in the early days of cinema, time travel movies were far and in between. In 1960 we got a cinematic interpretation of HG Wells's classic story, “The Time Machine”. “Planet of the Apes” revealed itself to be a time travel movie in 1968. The 70's and 80's gave us some more modern day methods of riding a time wave with things like “Time After Time”, “Somewhere in Time”, and “Timerider” But Time Travel became mainstream and common after a brand new idea in 1985 when Robert Zemeckis was finally able to bring his vision to screen in “Back to the Future”. We talk about why we enjoy this classic film, from the frenetic pace to the performances to the new rules of time travel, this story seemed to strike all the right notes. November 22, 1989 brought us the first of two sequels that were filmed back to back. Part II took us to a future that was fun and cheesy, but actually a little accurate. It also took Marty back to the past in 1955 where he had to find a way to save Doc, who was even further back in the past in 1885. Just a few months later on May 25, 1990 we got the conclusion where we see Hill Valley when it was just getting started in the old west. The finale focused more on Doc than Marty, and it raised the stakes of getting back to 1985. Jay and Shua remember times they saw it, even a trilogy marathon before the premiere of part III. Make sure you check out Jay's write-ups on Retrozap.com about the whole trilogy! Back to the Future Back to the Future Part II Back to the Future Part III Are you a fan of Back to the Future? Happy Saturday, Buttheads! Today, I go through a few notes and realize as I'm recording who the richest man in Hill Valley is in 2015. I also talk about an IMDB Goof that I brought to "Goof Court" (a term I just made up that no one uses). Listen to hear the outcome (or spoil yourself and look at the screenshot below). And since it's the weekend, I recorded another song - this one (slightly) paying homage to drummer Taylor Hawkins, who recently passed away, while still being on brand for this here podcast. Happy Wednesday Buttheads! Today I go over some of the awards "Back to the Future Part II" was nominated for - and a few it won. I also go through some of the "goofs" listed on IMDB. Happy Monday all you "Doc Until You Droppers" out there. That may be my worst one yet. I go through the scene talking everything I see (mostly sex stuff) and touch a little bit on that great "Biff Tannen Museum" welcome video. See you tomorrow!

A musical theater production, Back to the Future, was announced in 2014.The musical was written by Gale and Zemeckis, with music written by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. It debuted at the Manchester Opera House, England, in February 2020, to positive critical reviews. Gale said the musical was the best way to give fans more Back to the Future without adding to the film series. First time you saw the movie? Plot:In 1985, Marty McFly is a typical teenager living in Hill Valley, California. At home, Marty's meek father George is bullied by his supervisor, Biff Tannen. His mother Lorraine is a depressed alcoholic, and his older siblings are professional and social failures. Marty's band is rejected at a music contest for being too loud. He confides in his girlfriend, Jennifer Parker, about fears of becoming losers like his parents despite his ambitions. That night, Marty meets his eccentric scientist friend Emmett "Doc" Brown in the Twin Pines mall parking lot at 1:16am. Doc unveils a time machine built from a modified DeLorean, powered by plutonium he swindled from Libyan terrorists. Doc tests the Delorean with his dog, Einstein, sending him exactly one minute into the future, and showing Marty some serious shit. After he proves it works, Doc inputs a destination time of November 5, 1955—the day he first conceived the flux capacitor, which is what makes time travel possible. Just then, the terrorists arrive unexpectedly, opening fire and shooting Doc. Marty flees in the DeLorean, inadvertently activating the flux capacitor, and when he reaches 88 miles per hour, he disappears into a fireball, as the terrorists crash. S:-Huey Lewis was the teacher who told Marty he was too loud.-What would've happened if Einstein hadn't shown back up? Or if he were dead when he did?-If you could go back in time, when would you go? Why? Arriving in 1955, Marty crashes into Old Man Peabodies barn. After being mistaken for an alien, Marty escapes, driving over one of his pine trees. Marty discovers he has no plutonium to return to 1985. While exploring a burgeoning Hill Valley, Marty encounters his teenage father and discovers Biff has been bullying him since high school. While spying on the teenage Lorraine, George falls into the path of an oncoming car, and Marty is knocked unconscious saving him. He wakes to find himself tended to by Lorraine, who becomes infatuated with him just like in Tuckers dreams. Marty tracks down a younger Doc and convinces him he is from the future, but Doc explains the only source available in 1955 capable of generating the power required for time travel is a bolt of lightening. Marty shows Doc a flyer from the future that documents an upcoming lightning strike at the town's courthouse, and with it being 1955, is the same day Chris lost his virginity. As Marty's siblings begin to fade from a photo he is carrying with him, Doc realizes Marty's actions are altering the future and jeopardizing his existence, GREAT SCOTT; Lorraine was supposed to meet George instead of Marty after the car accident. The pair try and get Lorraine interested in George, but they fail, and Lorraine's infatuation with Marty deepens. This is Heavy.Lorraine asks Marty to the school dance. He plots to feign inappropriate advances on Lorraine, allowing George to intervene and "rescue" her, but the plan goes awry when Biff's gang locks Marty in the trunk of the performing band's car, while Biff forces himself onto Lorraine. George arrives expecting to find Marty but is attacked by Biff. After Biff hurts Lorraine, an enraged George knocks him unconscious and escorts the grateful Lorraine to the dance, picking up her panties on the way. The band frees Marty from their car, but the lead guitarist injures his hand in the process. Marty takes his place and during his playing of Earth Angel, all of his siblings in the picture have disappeared, and Marty starts to fade away, when George and Lorraine finally share their first kiss; bringing back Marty and his siblings. After a rousing performance of Johnny B Good, and, with his future no longer in jeopardy, Marty heads to the courthouse to meet Doc. S:-Guess we shouldn't ask if anyone has ever been a peeping Tom...-When and who was your first kiss?-The flyer is def precurser to the sports almanac in part 2.-So besides it being his own mom, Martys idea is STILL a sexual assault, even if he didn't go through with it, but Biff did. Notice where his hand was coming from when George opened the door. Doc discovers a note from Marty warning him about his future and destroys it, worried about the consequences. To save Doc, Marty re-calibrates the DeLorean to return ten minutes before he left the future. After some trials, Marty drives and the lightning strikes, sending him back to 1985, but the DeLorean breaks down, forcing Marty to run back to the now LONE PINE mall, much like Trey does on most nights. Lone. Pine. Ok. He arrives as Doc is being shot. While Marty grieves at his side, Doc sits up, revealing he pieced Marty's note back together and was wearing a bulletproof vest. He takes Marty home and departs to 2015 in the DeLorean.Marty wakes the next morning to discover his father is now a confident and successful science fiction author, his mother is fit and happy, his siblings are successful, and Biff is a servile valet in George's employ. As Marty reunites with Jennifer, Doc suddenly reappears in the DeLorean, insisting they return with him to the future to save their children. As they get in, Marty tells Doc he'll need more road to get to 88... When Doc tells him where they're going, they wont need, roads. The DeLorean takes off, and flies into the sky and the future. The End. S:-Again, if you could go back and change anything would you?-If you could know your future, would you?-They didn't think about the fact that Marty would crash into a theatre back in the future?-Also, this implies the whole reason Doc was "friends" with Marty, a 17 year old boy, was because he'd known for 30 years what would happen. How do you even make that introduction and start that friendship? "Hey, we've got to be friends so you go back in time and save my life by writing a letter..."?-I've read reviews of people who don't like the role reversal of George and Biff, that George has basically become the bully. Thoughts? Top Five Trivia of the movie: 1. The role of Marty McFly was originally portrayed by Eric Stoltz. But he was fired several weeks into the shoot and replaced by Michael J. Fox.2. Thomas F. Wilson improvised some of Biff's signature catchphrases, such as butthead and make like a tree, and get out of here3. The iconic DeLorean time machine was almost a Ford Mustang.4. In early drafts, the time machine was a refrigerator.5. According to Back to the Future Part III (1990), the clock in the clock tower started running at 8:00 p.m. on September 5, 1885. The date is provided by the caption on the photograph that Doc Brown gives Marty at the end of Back to the Future Part III. The time is provided by the Mayor in 1885 in Back to the Future Part III, who starts it. The lightning strikes the clock tower at 10:04 p.m. on November 12, 1955. This means that the clock tower operated for exactly seventy years, two months, seven days, two hours, and four minutes.
