Episode 198: Building Core Memories 80's Style
Don't you forget about The Breakfast Club sequel. We didn't but the internet tried to trick us. It's doccie time with the life story of Gary Coleman and the death stories of 80s hair band members. The resurrection theme continues in Dori's movie of the week while Paulo's movie is so silly it's almost art. As we celebrate #BTTFDAY24 we examine the technology that came true and the ones that never materialised. We're looking at you, hoverboards. Finally Freddy Krueger even scared the crap out of himself and made an entire generation distrustful of anyone in a green and red striped jersey. It's Back To The Future Day! Don't worry though this show is full of Ron raging at people including a very whiny phone customer who wants to argue with us, a banchode trying to get a discount, a donut addict who just wanted more donuts, a very squeaky lady who is reporting us to the BBB, a man complaining about his Pokemons, a morbidly obese lady who needs to cheap weight loss drugs, a dating site customer who got into a bad situation with a stripper, another telecourt session for a missing TV, one man gets very upset with Ron's customer service skills, one man is upset about his missing credit card and one lady has no Internet and wants to take it out on us. And lots lots more too! Thank you to all the people that listened live on YouTube and everyone checking out our podcast. I love you very much and keep it locked to macronshow.com where Ron will be doing more supporter's shows!

Amanda Seales and the crew brings a packed lineup of hot topics and breaking news. She kicks off the show with a reminder that her one-woman performance in Washington, D.C. is tonight! The episode also highlights fun national observances, like National Apple Day, Reptile Awareness Day, and Back to the Future Day. The conversation gets more serious as they dive into the importance of battleground states ahead of upcoming elections. Plus, this week's group chat topic explores Glorilla's controversial opinion that men can love a woman and still cheat on her. In a special "State of the States" segment, they focus on Nebraska, where the Supreme Court ruled that convicted felons can vote once they complete their sentence. Journalist Malaika Jabali joins to discuss battleground states, like Wisconsin, and the shifting political landscape for Black voters. The "Big Up Let Down" segment delivers some highs and lows: a failed robbery attempt at Marco's Pizza and a major letdown involving racist candles released by Bath & Body Works, with comparisons being drawn to Klan hoods. The last Friday of Marchy McFly 2 - wow how time flies by like a DeLorean stolen by an elderly bully...Today I focus mostly on the "Back to The Future Day" craze that pop culture jumped on back on October 21, 2015. I go through a fun CNET article that "reviews" the technology of 2015, and play clips from when ABC played tribute to the day on their prime-time shows, did a feature on a custom DeLorean maker on Nightline, and (maybe once again, forget if I did it last year) play some audio from when Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd showed up (in character) on Kimmel. Listen to that ovation they get! See you tomorrow Future (and past and present) Nerds!

Podcast Audience! You gotta come back with us! Where you ask?..BACK TO THE FUTURE! This week, in honor of Back to the Future Day 2016 (October 21st-The Day Marty and Doc land in the future) we decided to take a look back at the franchise that introduced us to hover boards, self lacing Nikes, and Donald Trump....I mean Biff Tannen. So grab your Gray's Sports Almanac and refuel your Mr. Fusion as we gun this podcast up to 88mph and explore the world of Back to the Future! Movie News! Tommy Wiseau, Director of cult classic, The Room to star in new film, Best F(r)iends The Back to the Future Trilogy (1985, 1989, 1990) Back to the Future (1985) Written by both Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale and centered on the idea of "what if you could go back and see what your parents were like as teenagers." No studio wanted this film. Disney did show interest until they saw certain incestual tones in the screenplay (ie. Marty and Lorraine McFly). Zemeckis directed Romancing the Stone which was a huge success and ultimately led to his directing Back to the Future. Eric Stolz originally was cast as Marty McFly. However, Stoltz portrayed a very morose Marty that ultimately was counter to the vision that Gale and Zemeckis had. Michael J. Fox was brought in and brought a lighter and comedic tone to the character of Marty. The shooting schedule was grueling for Fox who would shoot Back to the Future at night and Family Ties during the day. Back to the Future-Take Aways Film is more about George McFly's transition from doormat to self confidence rather than Marty's journey. One of the biggest issues with the film is that it creates plot points for Marty yet fails to deliver. Marty never is shown gaining the confidence to send in his demo to the record company. Robert Zemeckis is not that great at diversity. Mayor Goldie Wilson is a corrupt politician. Rock and Roll is gifted to Chuck Berry by Marty McFly. Back to the Future: Part II (1989) Centers on Doc and Marty travelling 15 years into the future to stop an incident from occurring with Marty's kids that would destroy his family. Ultimately, they are success and create a secondary plot in which future Biff steals the time machine and changes the past and creates a dystopian 1985. Cartoon version of the original film. Relies on goofy future tech and style as well as a goofy Donald Trump-esque dystopian present. Light on plot. Does the job that a sequel should do by expanding the mythos of the original. Plot starts to focus more on Marty and the repercussions of his short temper. This movie is full of plot holes- See John's extensive list at 52:17 Plot holes can be resolved with the application "SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF." Also, IT'S A FUCKING TIME TRAVEL MOVIE. Back to the Future: Part III (1990) Dumbest of the three. The plot centers on Marty and Doc Brown being stuck in the old west after the events of the 2nd film and their journey to get back to 1985 before Mad Dog Tannen, an ancestor of Biff's, shoots and murders Doc over a matter of 80 dollars. Secondary plot, deals with Doc falling in love with school teacher, Clara Clayton. The time machine is ultimately destroyed after Marty makes it back to 1985. Doc Brown stays in 1885 with Clara. Doc Brown then comes back from 1885 with a brand new time machine made out of a train----which is completely counter to his "I should have never invented that infernal time machine" logic. The guess is that this was tacked on to lead into the Back to the Future cartoon. Final Thoughts First film is a near flawless movie. Sequels are ok, but not great and definitely do not hold up nearly as well as the original film.

From cover bands, to ‘Back to the Future Day’, to a seemingly endless churn of sequels and remakes, the world of entertainment owes a lot to nostalgia for the money it makes. Sometimes this nostalgia can be a fun, positive force, and other times it can feel unoriginal, uninspired, and, frankly, overwrought to the point where […]

This week, Bill is on his honeymoon in Europe, so we're doing another Q&A show that we actually recorded last week before he left. Ironically, we did the show on Back to the Future Day, which means that while we were recording it for the future, you're really listening to it in the past. Science!
In this week’s show we discuss the future, Back to the Future and this week’s celebration of Back to the Future Day. But, it is a podcast about Doctor Who, and there is plenty in store for our musings this episode. First, we’ll give a spoiler free of the next book in Candy Jar Book’s Lethbridge-Stewart series, ‘Lethbridge-Stewart: Beast of Fang Rock’, written by Andy Frankham-Allen. We offer our insights with a sneak peek at the...Read more The post Episode 252 – Pun-Free Zone appeared first on Traveling the Vortex.

Also on the agenda, we examine the new subscription-based YouTubeRed announced by the video giant last week and lay out the plan Yahoo has to win you back.

It was a great Back To The Future Day our first day broadcasting on ipmNation.com. We had our good friend Hollywood Christian Vogel join us when Mike got stuck in an alternate 2015. We went over a bunch of stuff, and then the guys went out to confirm if the Jersey Devil was really in the area as reported a few weeks earlier. What they found was astounding! We interviewed John from The Hangover Pretzel Company, Rappers IllAnoise, LOU KA$H, and MK14, and Comedian Zeke Herrera.

All reminisce about their experiences with the Back To The Future trilogy and how our 2015 looks in comparison. And we would be woefully behind the times if we didn't talk about the epic new trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.Be sure to stick around after the credits for a bonus round table Superman talk that is not to be missed. The song this week is a track I put together for a Cheshire Cats album back in the day….”Route 66” …which unfortunately I didn’t write but I came across it in a drawer….it is performed by a band we put together for our weekly jam sessions….it was a three piece me on guit…my lad Steve on bass and vocals…and a young fellow called Andy Thory on drums…Steve plays a mean bass …he was a good player and was great to work with…even though he’s the fruit of my loins…..he had his own band called The Black Knights….we sold the album for charity and was very popular at the time….happy days. 2.Last Wednesday was “Back To The Future Day” because in the film trilogy they travel to 21st October 2015…..I remember thinking at the time that on that day I will have been married 43 years…and here we are. The films were absolutely brilliant and dare I say it…ahead of their time….I have the box set and watch it all from time to time … it really is a classic….and it is very interesting how accurate some of the predictions were….great stuff. 3.We have yet to hear of the plight of the chap in Saudi Arabia who was jailed for making beer…he was due to receive 200 lashes last I heard….I know that the laws of countries have to be obeyed but this is going a bit over the top….these places seem to be living in the dark ages….also there was a girl on “The Apprentice” who said she was a sort of pole dancer in Saudi….now they want her deported….it is ridiculous….but they have the oil !!!....what we need to do is find our own sources of energy and backheel the lot of them. 4.There has been a lot of coverage on the news about the bobby who got hit by a stolen van….and sadly died….this happened just down the road from where I live. The driver and his accomplice had burgled an estate agent and the police were giving chase…the bobby threw a tyre stinger on to the road and the van swerved and hit him…needless to say the local community were devastated…he was only a young chap with a family…..the burglars have been caught and are awaiting trial….I have said it for years that there isn’t enough deterrent…they should get life sentences….but they wont. 5.Last week we mentioned the sad passing of Kenny Johnson of The Hillsiders country band….Billy Butler did a fabulous tribute to him on his programme….he played an interview he had done with Kenny and played short exerpts from his many recordings….what a great singer he was….and he has played on the Grand Old Opry in the states along with many big names….I feel Kenny was a true legend who sort of slipped under the radar. And Tom Jones has been on talking about his book….I bet that’s a good read….AND he is still with his wife who he married at 16…..Rock on Tommy !!!... ….and finally the nanny state strikes again….there is a suggestion that a tax should be put on sugar…because we are all obese….Jamie Oliver being one of the leading lights…the fact that it is assumed that people need help to not eat sugar is pathetic….I’m not quite sure who these consumer protectors think they are.

Eddie, with an unpronounceable last name, and Jacob from Nine Choirs Music came in studio to talk the popularity of Back to the Future day, talk about their friends penises, and play a few songs. All this before someone tickled Joe and he (may or may not have, there's no evidence) farted. We started the show with Matt's review of The Martian, colored by the fact that he watched half the film last week and fell asleep, and finished it this week. His one complaint about the film came from the part he remembered in the second half, where Abe Lincoln went faster than warp 9 and slingshotted around the sun to stop an alien probe. We talked news about Erin Andrews filing a Lawsuit against Marriot Hotels about the 2008 peeping incident. Dave railed against Back to the Future Day, the day that only comes once a lifetime and everyone was talking about, despite celebrating annually, Captain Picard Day. Matt played a clip of a stranger at the bar tickling Joe, and attempted to blame Joe for farting. There was no evidence and there were other players on the field, however. During the second hour, Eddie told us his first CD album was 'N Sync's No Strings Attached and that his favorite song was Dirty Pop. They played a show with our friends, Monkey Knife Fight. We talked about their cover, You Got Spirit Kid originally by Coheed and Cambria. Eddie mentioned that he saw his friend Evans penis, and claimed to have seen 20% of his friends' penises. They talked writing a comic, and played a song for us, Crowning the Hangman. Spookytober is halted, briefly and partially, to address the time-traveling elephant in the room: October 21, 2015! Er, I mean, Back to the Future Day! Week in Geek: Andrew got a Playstation 4 and played Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and shot a lot of dudes while Dan saw Crimson Peak. BttFP2: To introduce Back to the Future Day, Dan and Andrew spend some time to talk about the overall legacy of Back to the Future, Part II. Predicting the Future: Andrew and Dan, in honor of the moment, spend some time talking about science-fiction predicting not only the far future, but the near future and what that tells us about...us. Dead By Dawn: Because it's Spookytober, Dan and Andrew discuss the first two films of the venerated Evil Dead franchise because, basically, they're the same movie told through two very different lenses. And that's weird. Next week we bring Spookytober to a close, so tune in for scary stuff, no doubt. Please leave any comments to the content of this episode at forall.libsyn.com. Happy Back To The Future Day!Das Jahr 2015 brachte bisher neben unserem erfreulichen Comeback samt dicken "Zurück in die Zukunft" Anstrich im Mai auch den 30. Back To The Future Day! ;)Weiterlesen »

The Obsessive Viewer - Weekly Movie/TV Review & Discussion Podcast
This week Tiny and I celebrate the two-year anniversary of the podcast with a discussion about our favorite “second seasons” of TV. We talk about The Office, The Wire, Lost, Breaking Bad and more. In lieu of potpourri, we reminisce on our 2nd year as podcasters. In the episode, I incorrectly name October 5th as Back to the Future Day. It's October 21st. I'm ashamed and deserve to have my car covered in manure.
