We are two addicts in recovery who also happen to be a mother and daughter podcasting team! At some points in our relationship, we didn’t speak and at other times we were completely codependent but toxic. Though through getting sober, we were able to heal

She ultimately found help online through Women In Transition and CoDa. She tells us her story of finding CoDA, what it did for her. He took it and ran with it! He runs a podcast called The Broken Crayon Show where he tattoos clients. The clients are mostly recovering addicts and they share their story of addiction, recovery and hope! He cultivates a space where people can feel free to share and support one another in their sobriety.     In this episode, we hear Kristen's story of survival. She was married at 19 to her best friend and the love of her love. She had a happy marriage until her husband became dependent on alcohol while coping with the knowledge he had developed health problems. She stuck by him through it and tried to make things work despite enduring verbal, emotional and physical abuse. She tried to leave many times but explains why she felt she had to stay. She tells us her story of how her husband tried to murder her on three separate occasions. Finally, she did leave and a few days later, her husband sadly completed suicide. Kristen is a strong woman, a survivor and an example of what people go through when substance abuse winds through their lives and leaves devastation like a tornado.     In this episode we meet Bill Jericho. If you are a fan of intervention, you might know of Bill's story already. A couple years ago, "Intervention" did a special episode in Philadelphia about the opioid epidemic. Bill was was approached in Kensington by a camera crew who asked to follow him around the city and show people what it is really like. They also gave him the opportunity to go to treatment with his girlfriend at the time. Julianne remembers watching his story and remembering that she hoped so much that he had made it. He tells his story of getting involved with intervention, being given the opportunity to go to LA for treatment. He covers how he lost his relationship in early recovery, losing his sister to addiction, losing his niece to a freak car accident, relapsing, recovering and starting a non profit with his mom.     Julianne shares her experience of being in the hospital for internal bleeding, blood transfusions, endoscopies and more. She shares about the journey of noticing patterns in her body and being aware of what is going on in her body because during active addiction you're not very aware of these things while in active addiction. Donna shares her struggles with the perception of her mother and how she viewed her as a young woman. She talks about her severe codependency and how our mother's day plans were sidelined by COVID and her codependent behavior. Gratitude is a big part of this episode. The girls talk about the ways in which they find gratitude in their daily life. Of course, discussion about disordered eating is always mentioned when you get these two together. They talk about losing excitement about sobriety and realizing they need to amp up their programs again. They talk about going to meetings and what that means for each of them.     We are two addicts in recovery who also happen to be mother and daughter. At some points in our relationship, we didn't speak and at other times we were completely codependent but toxic. However, through getting sober, we were able to heal our relationship and form a bond we never thought possible. The name of the podcast, "How I Met My Mother, Sober" is a play on words of how we each met one another sober. So, tune in as we share our journey!
